How to enable/install SNMP daemon on MARS?

I need to enable SNMP on a MARS 6.x box, so it can be remotely monitored and provide health metrics. Does anyone know how to do this? I thought the old 4.x had it installed, but disabled. I can't remember how I enabled it and need to do this on a 6.x box. Any help is appreciated.
Tony

I too ran into this. Not for SNMP, but for auditing purposes and I wanted root access. TAC says no go unless they are debugging a serious problem.
So, I stopped thinking of this as a mystical black box, and started thinking of it as what it really is: a linux box as someone prior has stated.
Well, since it's just a linux box, during the install you can press alt-F2 and get a second tty. From there you can perform all manner of fun things that would indeed give you root access. This could also be done with sysrescue or similar...
Having said this, I certainly don't recomend tampering with a ``sealed system'' for a number of reasons, the primary one being that TAC won't be able to help you very much if you hose it.

  • How to enable installed themes compatible with FF 4 Beta 12

I previously installed various themes indicated as compatible with Firefox 4.0 Beta 12. But all of them are shown now as being (disabled) in the Add-on Manager.
How are these themes enabled? Thanks for your help.
My laptop's operating system is Windows Vista.

To see if they still work with 4 beta 12,you could install [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=external-fxbetarelnote Add-on compatibility reporter],which fill force incompatible add-ons and themes, some may still work, however not necessarily all of them, you will have to try and see which ones will.

  • How do I install Enabler from the Airport Extreme disk?

Recently I purchased an new Airport Extreme. One of my 3 computers is a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with 20 inch display (iMac4,1). It is running 802.11g. I wish to enable it for 802.11n. I am confused by a statement about the enabler, which is found at the following link for the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac (http://store.apple.com/us/product/D4141ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA&mco=MTA4MjgwNzI). The statement is, "Important note: The Enabler is included free with the new AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n. If you purchase a new AirPort Extreme Base Station, you do not need to purchase the Enabler separately." On my iMac, the Network Utility indicates the iMac is not enabled for 802.11n. I have kept the software on the iMac up to date. Thus I assume that somewhere on the disk that came with the Airport Extreme, there is an enabler file I need to access. Where do I find this, and how do I enable the iMac for 802.11n? Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Wilson

I am still a bit confused, because the information at the link I gave seems to indicate that a person with my model of computer should be able to use the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac.
    1. My computer is not a 17 inch 1.83 GHZ. It is a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with a 20 inch display (measured diagonally).
    2. The web page (http://store.apple.com/us/product/D4141ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA&mco=MTA4MjgwNzI) says check "Before purchasing the 802.11n Enabler software, please check to make sure that your Mac does not already have the 802.11n enabler already installed."
    3. It then shows how to use the Network Utility to see whether or not the enabler is installed ("If the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), you already have the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n enabler installed." My computer lists "802.11a/b/g".
    3. Thus I assume that all now I need to do is to install the enabler, which one then can purchase, which one then can do through the Apple Store web page.
    4. My issue is that the same web page says I do not need to purchase the enabler if I have already purchased the Airport Extreme base station. ("Important note: The Enabler is included free with the new AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n. If you purchase a new AirPort Extreme Base Station, you do not need to purchase the Enabler separately.")
    What have I missed?

  • How to install [insert daemon here] as a service?

    Hi all!
I've just installed Kerio Mailserver on Linux because I've got a Windows license and thought I'd move it over to Linux.
Since Fedora and SUSE are the only officially supported distributions for this mailserver, it doesn't install itself as a service anywhere.
My question is - How could I install this as a service so I can do /etc/rc.d/kerio start etc...? I've looked at the existing bash scripts in /etc/rc.d for other daemons but it's a bit tricky to understand.
Is there a tutorial existing on this subject somewhere?
    Any help is MUCH appreciated!

I don't know of any tutorial myself - picking apart some of the official init scripts was enough for me in most cases. There's one example, though, that might be useful here, and that's openswan, which by default, dumps a bunch of SysV scripts in /etc/rc*.d - does kerio do this, by any chance?
Anyway, I worked around it by creating an Arch-style init script, which then calls the actual openswan init script. Here are some links if you want to check it out:
    Arch init script
    Openswan init script
If this means nothing to you, post kerio's init script, or a link to it - maybe we can work something out.
One last thing, probably unnecessary, but presumably you know that there is a wide choice of excellent open-source mail server applications available?

  • How to install SNMP ?

    Hello,
I have a v120 server installed with the minimum installation of solaris 10 06/06.
I successfully installed a lot of package from sunfreeware.com, but now I need to install snmp to generate graphs from cacti.
My solaris knowledge is very limited, and I can't find a doc to to that.
Please, could you tell me how to :
    1. Know the required packages to run snmp deamon ? (names?? on the dvd?)
    2. The command to install them ?
Then I suppose that there is a cummunity account or I'll add it in snmp.conf....
Thanks you for your help, bigadmins :) !
    See ya

    Hi Author 5056,
I saw your question about snmp on W2K Pro and wanted to know how you were able to properly path out the environment variables under My Computer properties. I have tried everything but still cannot get Sun One Application Server 7 to run.
    Can you help?
    Thanks!

I don't have the 'iPod ' option in my iPad in settings menu as shown here. I have music option shown. I have 5.1.1 os installed. How to enable sharing/streaming of music now?

    Yes.
You need to,turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on the computer. The computer and the iPad will need to be on the same wireless network. You will also need to make sure the same AppleID accosiared with your iTunes is also added to the Music app in Settings.

  • Equium P200D how to enable SATA mode to AHCI so i can install OSx86

Hi im trying to install OSx86 on my new Equium P200D-139 laptop that i bought this week.
I need to set SATA mode to AHCI. All other pc's i have used i have been able to do this in the bios but with this laptop the bios is so cut down the option isnt there.
Does anyone know how to enable AHCI mode so i can get OSx86 to boot.
    Thanks
    Mark

If I'm not mistaken, you get the famous "Still waiting for root device" message, right?
Well, I really do not have many experience in Mac operating systems, but this appears because of SATA drives and yes, you are right, AHCI mode works for most notebooks or desktop PCs.
I think there is no way to enable this option. But maybe you can find help looking for some instructions on osx86project in google.

  • UE-V 2.1 - How to Enable WaitForSyncOnApplicationStart and WaitForSyncOnLogon during install

    Good day everyone,
I can't seem to figure out how to enable the WaitForSyncOnApplicationStart and WaitForSyncOnLogon parameter during install. I tried to add WaitForSyncOnApplicationStart=true to my install command but it doesn't seem to work. There must be a way
to set those parameter automatically during install. Anybody has any idea? I am deploying it using the x64 .msi version.
Thank you all for your help!

Anybody has an idea? Maybe someone from microsoft? While I apreciate suggestion that were made, using external mean to set those parameter is not really what I call a solution but more of a work around. On top of this, I downloaded the ADMX GPO template
for UE-V 2.1 and those 2 settings are not even part of it.

  • How to enable GUI in a non global zone in solaris11?

How to enable graphical logon in a non global zone in solaris11, so the zone can be login by Xmanager? Thanks!

This guide will cover how to setup a basic VNC connection to a Solaris 11 machine. There is also an optional step to allow for persistent VNC connections.
    Step 1
Configure GDM to include ‘[security] DisallowTCP=false’ and ‘[xdmcp] Enable=true’.
    $ sudo gedit /etc/gdm/custom.conf
    # GDM configuration storage
    [daemon]
    [security]
    DisallowTCP=false
    [xdmcp]
    Enable=true
    [greeter]
    [chooser]
    [debug]
    Step 2
Configure X-Server to accept remote connections.
    # svccfg -s application/x11/x11-server
    svc:/application/x11/x11-server> setprop options/tcp_listen = boolean: true
    svc:/application/x11/x11-server> end
    Step 3
Configure the VNC service (you could change the ‘-geometry 1280×720′ to whatever resolution you would like).
    # svccfg -s xvnc-inetd
    svc:/application/x11/xvnc-inetd> setprop inetd_start/exec = astring: "/usr/bin/Xvnc -desktop sol11:0 -geometry 1024x768 -inetd -query localhost -once securitytypes=none"
    svc:/application/x11/xvnc-inetd> setprop inetd/wait = boolean: true
    svc:/application/x11/xvnc-inetd> end
** The line highlighted red is optional – only do this if you want your VNC connection to persist (as well as any potential security issues)
    or
    # svccfg -s xvnc-inetd
    svc:/application/x11/xvnc-inetd> editprop
    search for # setprop inetd_start/exec = astring: "/usr/bin/Xvnc
copy the line, uncomment the copy, makethe changes above, write the file out.
    svcadm refresh xvnc-inetd
    Step 4
Disable and the re-enable the GDM and VNC-inetd services for the changes to take effect.
    $ su root
    Password:
    # svcadm disable gdm xvnc-inetd; svcadm enable gdm xvnc-inetd
If still in maintenance, reboot (I had to, don't know why).
    Step 5
Point your favourite VNC client at your Solaris server and test if it accepts your VNC connection – you should be presented with a Username/Password login screen.
If you performed the optional step to make your connections persist – close your favourite VNC client and then reconnect – if you remained logged in you have a persistent connections.

After a fresh text install of Solaris-11 (11/11) both xvnc-inetd and gdm are not present. After installing them (# pkg install xvnc-inetd gdm) I can’t get gdm to start:
    # svcadm enable gdm
    # svcs gdm
    offline 10:24:03 svc:/application/graphical-login/gdm:default
    Any thoughts?

You are missing some X packages. Do the following:
    pkg install slim_install           # installs 400+ packages
svcadm enable gdm && exit      # gdm now works
pkg uninstall slim_install           # uninstalls the installer package only
