How to enable SATA NCQ/AHCI in MacBook (Late 2007)

I am planning to upgrade the HDD to a bigger SATA-2 model.
I would like to ask does *MacBook (late 2007)* with *Mac OS X 10.5.2* natively support NCQ / AHCI ?
Do I have to enter the BIOS to *enable the AHCI* function of the HDD?

They all have a bios but you don't access it like on an old windows installation. If the drive is compatible, it will work.
Wrong, EFI is NOT BIOS. They are two separate things. They do the same job, but EFI does it more efficiently due to the fact that it is a lot newer. You do not require BIOS to run EFI, or the other way around.
This sounds more like a semantic discussion rather than the original poster's query whether or not something needed to be done in order to access a larger drive. Perhaps he used the term "BIOS", but we all know there have been means of updating the firmware on MacBooks, even if it isn't a traditional BIOS reflash.

Your problem is not Boot Camp, in fact, is your optical drive. Win XP requires indeed sp2, but also the internal drive, does not work from external optical drive.
For other possible tricks, please use the appropriate Boot Camp forum, not here. Mac OS X may be installed from both external and internal optical drive and/or internal/external partition of a disk, any disk. Windows is not so generous.

  • MacBook (late 2007) 2.2 Ghz mini DVI to DVI Problem

    Hi,
I still got my second MacBook 2.2 Ghz and still have the same problem like before. Always when I connect my 19" TFT Display with the mini DVI to DVI Adapter something disturbs my WLAN Connection, so that i can't load any Webpage in Safari anymore.
Does anybody have some experiences with the MacBook (late 2007) and the mini DVI to DVI Adapter?

    Hello,
I do have same problem, it quite annoying, could you please let me know if you find the solution.
Thank you very much. Is Hardware problem, I'm wondering if it needs to be reported to apple.
    Thank you.

  • Cable to migrate from Macbook (late 2007) to Mac Mini 2012?

What cable should I use to migrate files from Macbook (late 2007) to Mac Mini 2012. The ethernet migration took 30 hours. The Macbook messaged success but the Mini did not show that any files were transfered.

Where did you look for the migrated files? Look in the /Users/ folder and see if there isn't a new user account. If so, then log into that account where you should find what you migrated.
The only way to do a migration any faster and more reliably is if both computers have Firewire ports. If they do then you can use Target Disk Mode to migrate.

  • MacBook late 2007 runs slow

My MacBook (late 2007, OS 10.6.8) seems to be running more slowly lately. Its especially noticeable when it's runs Safari (currently v5.1. but the macbook and Safari ran slow even before latest software update. I've freed more disk space by deleting unneeded large files. Any other suggestions?

Download Onyx (Google will find it) and run through its all the options of its first three procedures: Verify, Maintenance and Cleaning.  Take note of any error messages and reboot when finished.
Let us know if things improve or not.

  • Is it possible to use Intel PROset Wireless/WiFi card on MacBook late 2007 in replacement of Airport?

Will Intel PROset/Wireless WiFi card work on MacBook Late-2007? I don't have an Airport card with me as this MacBook was only given to me from a friend. Also will Mac OS X 10.6 install even though the WiFi card and Bluetooth card is not in the MacBook?
    MacBook Late-2007, Mac OS X 10.6, 1GB RAM, 8x SuperDrive, 235GB 5400rpm HDD, Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, Intel GMA Graphics

I would seriously doubt that you will be able to use this card as a replacement for the AirPort Extreme card in your MacBook.
A better option would be to use a wireless USB Wi-Fi adapter instead. You can find these at a number of vendors on the Internet. One would be Other World Computing (OWC).
As far as installing OS X 10.6, you should be able to install it from the OS X installation disk regardless if the AirPort card is missing.

  • Equium P200D how to enable SATA mode to AHCI so i can install OSx86

Hi im trying to install OSx86 on my new Equium P200D-139 laptop that i bought this week.
I need to set SATA mode to AHCI. All other pc's i have used i have been able to do this in the bios but with this laptop the bios is so cut down the option isnt there.
Does anyone know how to enable AHCI mode so i can get OSx86 to boot.
    Thanks
    Mark

If I'm not mistaken, you get the famous "Still waiting for root device" message, right?
Well, I really do not have many experience in Mac operating systems, but this appears because of SATA drives and yes, you are right, AHCI mode works for most notebooks or desktop PCs.
I think there is no way to enable this option. But maybe you can find help looking for some instructions on osx86project in google.

Get the user manual: MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2007) - User Guide. If you have the Mid-2007 model you can install 4 GBs (2 GBs in each slot) but only 3 GBs will be active. If you have a Late-2007 model you can install up to 6 GBs of RAM.

  • What SSD For Macbook Late 2007

    Hi all.
As a second Mac ive just bought a second hand Macbook 2.2Ghz Core2Duo late 2007 model odd a friend for a very reasonable price.
Ive already ordered some RAM to max it out as it only has the stock 1GB and 160Gb HDD. to go with the ram i would like to upgrade to an SSD drive and am aware that this model is a Sata I connection at 1.5Gbps throughput. As most drives are now Sata II or III am i ok buying one of these? Im only after a circa 128Gb SSD as will be plenty for my needs. Im a uk based user and am a graphic designer so this machine will be mainly a web machine for net use with light photoshop/illustrator/indesign use.
Im currently running Snow leopard on it and intend to keep it that way, unless ML would give me speed increases on a machine of this era?
Crucial states their M500 Sata III drives are compatible, so am i wright to assume any Sata II or III drive will be ok?
Any help and recomendations are very much appreciated and i thank you kindly in advance!
    Rob

    Mike,
Funny you ask, as when you posted that i was actually out buying the Samsung 840 120Gb SSD.
Basically the Macbook i picked up cheap off a mate was new to me last week. Came from a very particular owner that looks after things extremeley well. Its a 2007 2.2Ghz 3.1 model that ive upped to 4Gb RAM, and had wiped clean and reinstalled a fresh copy off snow leopard onto.
So today i came home with said SSD, and earlier this morning i had cloned the fresh install onto a firewire 400 drive ready to go. The 840 aleready had the latest firmware revision listed on Samasungs website, so i went ahead and removed the 5400rpm HDD it had from new, put the SSD in (never done one before and was surprised just how easy this was).
Then i booted up off my external drive, and the OS advised it could see the internal SSD but could not write to it - did i want to initialise. So after i clciked yes, i was able to erase and restore from my external back to the SSD. It has then booted up fine from the inmternal, taking longer on the first boot (i beleive this is normal). I installed and turned on the 'Enable Trim' app and rebooted twice. the second time getting a significant increase in boot time and all apps.
System profiler shows TRIM support on and the up to date firmware revision.
Snappy snappy! And my favourite new feature of the SSD? the fact that i feel no vibration when on my lap! Oh and the speed.
So yes, this Sata III drive seems to be fully fuctional on a Sata I interface, and although not as fats as newer Sata II and III machines, i feels alot snappier than before. And cooler as well. havent heard the fan so far since cloning back.
And thanks for your help and input earlier in the post!
The guy in the shop advised me it wouldnt work in my Mac (dumb-***) although i had specifically searched out product reviews that people had said had had success on Sata I and II machines of this vintage.

  • Samsung SSD 470 and Macbook Late 2007

    Hi all,
today I wanted to replace the internal HDD of my white macbook 3,1 late 2007 with a Samsung SSD 470 series 64 GB.
Unfortunately, disk utility doesn't "see" the device, so I can't use it. I tried both booting from the Snow Leopard DVD and
the Lion USB-Stick, to no avail. The drive just doesn't show up in disk utility at all.
So I installed it in an external firewire enclosure and that was fine. I could install Lion on it, no problem, so I guess the
hardware is fine. Afterwards, I re-installed the drive on the internal SATA port, but the system can't find a boot device.
I also booted from a Win 7 DVD, but again, the drive doesn't show up as a possible destination for installation.
I checked the firmware revision of the SDD, and it's the latest that's available from the Samsung web page.
Any help here? I guess I'm at loss right now...
    Thanks,
    JDK

    DID IT !!!
    Salut Jochen !
It is working... but what a struggle.
    The ingredients are :
    - 2 computers including your macbook
    - 1 standard hard drive (best have a new one or one with no OS ever installed on it)
    - your SSD drive
    - 1 DVD
    - Superduper software
    So the steps are :
    - Make a "Lion clean install DVD" (good tutorials) on computer 1.
    - Install the "standard hard drive" in your macbook
    - Then clean install Lion via the brand new DVD.
    - Now you have Lion on your Macbook... but you want it on a ssd.
    - Put your SSD in a Hard drive case to make it an external drive.
    - Plug it on your computer 1, format it (erase it)
    - Now plug your macbook on computer 1 too and restart it by holding the T key (Target mode)
    - On computer 1 you will have your SSD Drive and Macbook as 2 external drives mounted on the desk.
    - Superduper or clone your Mackbook on your SSD.
    - Open your Macbook and replace standard drive by SSD.
    - Switch on your Macbook ! It works fine for me.
    - The start is odd it is quite long before the Apple logo pops up but then after it is just sheer madness...
Well I hope you will be able to do it too. It took me hours.
The main problem is using a drive that had Lion on it because it won't let you clean install since Lion is implanting a Fantom partition that makes the whole ssd thing complicated. Hopefully I did'nt have to use Terminal tricks..it just worked fine.
    Best regards,
    Joffrey

  • Games for macbook late 2007

I still use my macbook from late 2007.
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  2.5 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  Intel GMA X3100 144 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
I know the graphics on these machines suck. I just want some good multiplayer games for when i'm not home. I already play warcraft III on it and I love it. I don't care how old the game is. Are there any old school multiplayer games I could try and run?

Wow that looks like a cool site. I'll give it a try. The only thing is i'm not familiar enough with older graphics cards to decide if any of those games are worth buying. I'd have no idea how they'd run on my macbook considering it struggles to run dwarf fortress and warcraft III sometimes.

  • SSD in Macbook Late 2007

I wanted to know if someone has installed a OCZ SSD 128GB CORE SERIES 128GB in a late 2007 macbook Santarosa (Sata I). It was found right? Some problem?
    Ty

I just bought a Crucial 64GB SSD, the M225, for my white MacBook. The difference it has made is amazing. Most applications now launch instantly, larger apps such as iPhoto, iMovie etc. only take a few seconds. Dreamweaver launches in around 3 seconds, it used to take about 20. I can open dozens of applications and the machine never slows down. Parallels launches very fast.
I use the MacBook purely for work so I don't need too much storage for music etc., so the 64GB drive is fine. As soon as prices come down a bit more I will buy a bigger drive.

  • Macbook late 2007 dying?

    Hi!
I have a late 2007 macbook and until last year it worked fine.
It started to freeze and the beach ball kept appearing more and more, until I restarted it one day and I got the problem with the grey screen with the apple logo and de progress bar that got stuck at 10% and after a while it rebooted and did the same thing all over again and again and again. I couldn't start my macbook anymore, after some research I decided to replace the harddrive and the macbook worked fine again, for a while..
2 months ago the same thing with the grey screen, Did soms VRAM and PRAM stuff and when I waited (like an half hour) it suddenly started the OS again. Disk Utillity told me to backup and repair the OS. Did that and seemed to be ok again. But now my macbook keeps freezing again, beach ball thing all over again and besides that the macbook fans make a lot more noise.
Don't know what to do right now and I'm searching for some advise, is it old and dying? At he moment I can't work on the poor thing.. I think it useless to put more money in it, but giving up is too easy..

Hi there. I feel you on the frustration. I had the same fork in the road a while back with my Black MacBook (display issue). In any case, 2011 has it's bright side in that hard drive costs are way way down (cheap like dirt), and it just MIGHT be your hard drive. You can never have enough external storage, so if you buy a hard drive and it isn't a hard drive problem, you can use that to back up the OSX of your next new Mac!
    But that's not my point.
See here for some excellent advice (next to visiting a Genius bar):
