How to enable SLAT/Intel EPT on MSI CX61 0OL-696US

I have an CX61 0OL-696US running Windows 8.1 Pro and am wanting to run a linux distro via Microsoft Hyper-V however, from what I've read, I need SLAT/Intel EPT enabled, but I can not find a means to enable this.  According to the Intel site, my processor supports VT-x and VT-x with EPT, but running the SysInternals CoreInfo.exe shows that EPT is not enabled and I can't find anywhere in the BIOS to enable it.
Anyone have any ideas?
I know I can run Ubuntu via VMWare, but I'm not wanting to install another application if I can pull this off with Windows Hyper-V.

I don't know.  I do know that on all the machines I have tested with, enabling Hyper-V breaks VMWare.  VMWare will think that VT is turned off in BIOS.

  • How to enable Wake On Lan on MSi P45 Neo2?

    Hi,
I just bought a P45 Neo2, and I think I have WOL on this machine, as the Realtek chipset 8111C does support the feature. However, I'm not sure how to
    - enable
    - use
the function. Can you help me?
Under Device Manager, I go to the Realtek network adapter --> Properties --> Power Management --> Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.
Now, it is enabled. How should I use it? I would be very thankful :-).

Please have a look here first for basic introduction to Wake on LAN and "Magic Packets":

  • How to enable only intel graphics/discrete graphics on T400(WxgA+), windows xp,

I got a T400  with switchabale graphics (something i dont understand). I want my 9 cells to  provide as long a run as feasible
without recharging. Which mode of graphics should i set it to and how do i do it?.
My blackbox (a bit heavy for me for carrying ) is a t400 with 9 cells and a wxga+, 2gb,120GB.

Edited: Sorry, missed the first time that you were on XP. The answer below is for Vista only. For XP because of op sys limitations you don't have true switchable graphics capability. You can switch between the two graphics cards during BIOS setup only. To switch, reboot turning power off, then power on and on initial screen hold F1 to enter BIOS setup. Choose config and then display, and toggle graphics between integer (energy saving) and discrete (high performance). First time you switch you may have to reboot an extra time to allow the drivers to install.
If you have the latest release of the power manager (2.42) right click on it (the battery icon) and choose switchable graphics. If you are still on 2.37 or earlier release of the power manager left click instead. Once you have found the switchable graphics option switch between the two graphics cards by choosing energy saving and high performance GRAPHICS. (NOT similar options in the normal part of the power manager.)
Here is the Lenovo switchable graphics FAQ

  • How to enable 2560x1440 over HDMI on MSI gt780

Has anyone succeeded in doing this?  the gt780 has HDMI 1.4 which should easily handle this resolution.  I bought a new monitor the samsung s27a850.  This  monitor does not have an HDMI port but does have DVI so i just got an adapter and it works fine... except
Under windows it will not allow me to select anything higher then 1920x1080p.  I can use the nvidia driver to create a custom resolution of 2560x1440 and then it works!  Looks awesome!  Until I reboot.  At which point the monitor will not work so I get stuck at load in screen.  I assume this is because the monitor is trying to represent the 2560 resolution but the nvidia driver is not yet loaded.  Anyways its just blackness.
Clearly the HDMI can output this resolution because it works fine when enabled however it appears I need a windows solution so that it can load on boot.  But it wont allow it.  The highest it is allowing via windows is 1920x1080.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

I've done this already, but it was a bit tricky:
    1. Make sure you have a HDMI 1.3 cable or better (these are the most common these days), since that's needed for the higher bandwidth.
    2. You need to remove the 2560x1440@60Hz custom resolution from the nVidia control panel if you still have that.
    3. Add a custom resolution of 2560x1440@35Hz (yes, it must be 35Hz) on the nVidia control panel for your big monitor.
    4. Select the resolution and it will work, even across power events like sleep or shutdown.
I found this solution elsewhere, but I can't find that page anymore. So I can't give the proper credits here, sorry.
Personal opinion: It looks like a software only problem. The hardware can handle 2560x1440@60Hz prefectly, but the video card driver breaks down if it needs to initialize that mode again. I guess it will be solved as those higher display resolutions become widespread. Actually, I do better with two 1920x1200@60Hz displays than with a single big one, since handling the windows is easier and a window on a single such display does not load the machine that much. It is also more economic power consumption wise. You can always turn off one of the monitors if not needed and two such monitors often draw less power than the single big one. (Yes, I measured that. Two two monitors have LED backlighting, however...) If you use your machine for work, then I would consider just selling that single big monitor and using two full HD ones instead.

  • How to enable VT-X on an MSI GT70 0ND?

    My rig:
GT70 0ND.  Stock out of the box except for:
    CPU upgrade to 3920XM
    SSD upgrade to 2*128GB
Looked around in the BIOS for virtualization settings, as I have used them before on other laptops, nothing seen.
Updated BIOS to the .70X version posted as of today, still nothing seen.
Given the power of this laptop, virtualization options have to be in there somewhere, so I humbly submit my ignorance for public consumption, in the hope that someone can help me out.

  • Enabling analog output sound on MSI 970A-G46 motherboard

Please tell me how to enable analogue output on my MSI 970A-G46 motherboard (via Realtek integrated audio card). I installed the drivers, but I only have Realtek Digital Output and Realtek Digital Output (Optical) available. The analogue output (Realtek High Definition Audio) returns "Not plugged in" error. How can I enable this output ? What exactly shall I plug in ? Everything is plugged in. I think it may have something to do with the JAUD1 connector, but I'm not sure. On old AC'97, it used to be 2 jumpers that needed to short some pins, but I don't know if this is the case with the new Realtek HD anymore (who has a different connector). Thanks.

Try the appropriate drivers from this page:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
I would first uninstall your present Realtek sound drivers, then reinstall the driver from the above page link. You have to check the box that says "I accept to the above" (yes, poor English...), then hit the "Next" button and the driver page loads.
    They work fine.

  • MSI X58 PLATINUM, the latest bios and how to enable turbo boost

    1) Wich motherboard is ? MSI X58 PLATINUM or MSI X58 PLATINUM SLI ?
    2) What is the lastest version Bios and where can i get ?
    3) How to enable turbo boost in this motherboard ?
    4) Thanks so much guys.

My bad. The obvious lack of your self research got the better of me. I do not take helping, if I can, lightly. This is new technology, & a lot of expertise is in short supply. I downloaded the manual on this board & read the bios section, & in CMOS Setup, you should find an "Enable" setting for Turbo Boost. If you don't, please contact MSI Tech Staff @ http://ocss.msi.com.tw Also, (in your manual), is a reference under "Intel Turbo Boost Tech", which clearly states "for further information please refer to Intel's official website". By your original post, CPU-Z says it's an SLI? What did you buy? Does it say on the retail box? At MSI's website, the X58 Platinum (not the SLI), has version 1.0 bios offered in three global region zip files. M7522v1.0 Euro.zip, M7522v1.0 ASIA.zip, & E7522v1.0.zip. J.T.N. is correct, the SLI board takes something else. Are both boards bios's compatable? I have no idea. Recommend step one as to confirm with MSI what board you truly have & go from there.

  • [Troubleshoot] MSI Gaming 7 ~ How to enable XMP with HyperX Fury RAM?

    Hi folks,
First time posting here and new to the MSI brand with a Gaming 7 and  MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G GPU. They are quite awesome so far.
Anyway, I'm also new to the intel world after using AMD chips for the past number of years and I am wondering what is this buzz about XMP profiles? My new RAM sticks support XMP according to their website. But I'm not sure how to enable them in the UEFI Bios. Videos show that there should be a button right above the GENIE OC but I dont see one. Can someone help me understand how to enable it?
    Spec info:
    Intel 4790k
    Gaming 7 Motherboard
    HyperX Fury RAM, 2x8GB (16GB) 1866mhz
EDIT: I cannot share external links but if you search xmp hyperx certifications you'll see that the RAM is XMP ready.
    Thanks!

but if you set your mem settings to auto, it should pick up 1866 speed from SPD
    Check with CPU-Z
Such is not possible. Programmed SPD settings to be used depend on the abilities of the memory controller (here means the cpu) used. The maximum specified memory support of an i7 4790K is DDR3 and DDR3L 1333/1600 (http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz). It is therefor impossible to run memory without an XMP extension (like the Fury sticks) on the platform in question above ddr3 1600 without setting speeds and timings manually.

*You have configured this virtual machine to use a 64-bit guest operating system. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host does not support VT.*

    Hi hersi,
Yes, thats the important model number.
According the Toshiba website your model has Intel Core2Duo T6600 CPU. So I have checked the Intel page directly and T6600 CPU doesnt support Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x). You can check this yourself:

Unfortunately there is no option to enable Virtualization :(

  • How to enable speedstep on MSI z77 mpower

Hello all, my question how to enable speedstep on MSI z77 mpower when the ratio is changed manually?
when the ratio is in the auto speedstep works and I change the ratio manually it does not work.why ?thanks

Is the CPU V. setting still on Auto?
Leave the CPU Ratio and CPU V. on 'Auto' and try the Turbo OC method with EIST and C1E 'Enabled'. Set all the Core Ratio's in 'CPU Features', 'Enable' 'Advanced Turbo'. VDroop at 100% for starters. CPU speed for best overall results is usually around a setting of 44X or 45X.
Since it is unknown what any of the system components are other than the mainboard, it makes it rather difficult to give any specific advice.

  • X121e HDMI output - how to enable?

Hi, I can't work out how to enable HDMI output from this laptop to my TV. On other laptops I've tried with the TV they respond to me plugging in the HDMI cable. On this one nothing happens. Also I can't see any obvious options to select HDMI output. The manual says press Fn F7 but when I select the external options there is no second monitor detected and again I can't see any options to select it. Any suggestions what to look at? Thanks, Pete.

I've tried another monitor and still no luck. Either there is some setting I'm missing for the Intel HD output, or I wonder if my HDMI output is faulty. Any ideas what to look for in the device manager or troubleshooting steps I can do? Thanks, Pete.
