How to Enable the Type Tool in Photoshop CS5
Please help. This is ridiculous but I can't type.
I'd see if resetting the Type Tool works by canceling out of your type and then right clicking on the Big T in the Tool options bar and clicking on Reset Tool.

What happened to the type tool in Photoshop CS5?
In previous versions of Photoshop, when the type tool hovered over text I could edit, it switched to just the up and down type cursor tool...and when it was over a region where I could click to create a new text layer, the cursor would show up with a little bounding box around it. Now in CS5, it is showing up as the simple up and down type tool whether I am hovered over text or not....so no way of knowing if a click is going to take me into an editable text layer, or if it is going to create a new type layer..until I actually click..
Has anyone else run into this problem? Any idea the cause, or the solution, or is it just a bug, or something that they changed for some reason?
Thanks!Hello!
Did you try to reset the text tool? (hit T, then right-click the tool preset icon in the Option bar, and select reset tool)
Usually, to make sure that I can create a new text layer, even if there is already some text, one can hold down the shift key to force the creation of a new text layer. -

I cannot use the type tool in Photoshop CC it goes black. Why?
What goes black?
What OS version are you using?
And have you updated your video card drivers from the GPU maker's website? (bugs in video drivers being the most common cause of display issues) -

Entire image turns black when using the type tool in Photoshop CC
When I create a text layer, the whole image turns black. If I enter the text blindly, I will see the expected results when I finish and click on another tool. If I try to edit the text layer, everything turns black again. I am not using the type mask tool. I can select and move the layer and I can blend the layer; I just can't see what I am typing.
Using Windows 8I had the same problem and the update of the video card driver did not help - only after changing the settings in photoshop under "Preferences >> Performance >> Advanced settings >> Basic" the problem was solved

My Mac completely seizes when using the Gradient Tool in Photoshop CS5
I've recently upgraded to CS5 and in tandem have replaced my 8Gb of RAM with 16Gb on an iMac 27" with a 2.8Ghz Intel Core i7.
The problem that I've encountered with Photoshop seems to be connected with the COMBINED effect of these two upgrades. I just need to determine where the problem lies.
Whilst attempting to apply a gradient (white to transparent) using Photoshop CS5 on a CMYK file my Mac completely seizes. And I mean completely! No 'force quit' option, nothing. Even the little light on my mouse goes out. However, suspecting that it may be a CS5 problem I tried the same procedure using CS4. Hey presto – no problem. Narrowing the area down still further I re-installed the original 8Gb chips and the problem went away. Back to the 16Gb and the problem reoccurs. I've also found that using the 'Auto Merge' facility also causes the same seizure.
So, is it a RAM problem or a CS5 problem or a combination of the two? I've run Memtest the result of which indicated that the new RAM was behaving itself. The new memory is Kingston's finest and has had no adverse effects anywhere else on the system. If anyone can come up with a definitive answer I'd be grateful, especially if it means I can get my memory supplier to exchange my purchase gratis. If the whole machine freezes, then you are most likely looking at a hardware problem.
Narrowing the area down still further I re-installed the original 8Gb chips and the problem went away.
Yep, that's more evidence that the problem is in your hardware.
Application software cannot cause a lockup like that. Only hardware, low level drivers and the OS can cause a lockup like that.
In your case, it seems to be the hardware (RAM chips or motherboard).
Unfortunately, software RAM tests are useless. But you've got a test that stresses the RAM system more than those tests: it's called Photoshop.
We have seen several reports recently of RAM problems in newer iMacs. There appears to be a problem with the RAM specification, testing, or the motherboards. Unfortunately, we don't yet have enough details to determine the root cause of the issues. But most people have fixed the problem by swapping out the RAM. -
I have an intranet web application that had (until recently) allowed users to open a folder on their local machine when clicking a link. In more recent versions of FireFox this functionality is not allowed on purpose from what I understand. Whey they try to do it now the following error is thrown:
TypeError: netscape.security.PrivilegeManager is undefined
[Break On This Error]
netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalXPConnect");
How can I go about allowing my users to have this type of functionality in the latest version of FireFox? Is it as simple as using an existing Add On? Do I need to write my own extension? If I need to write my own, can someone point me in the right direction for what I will need to do?
Thanks!I can't think of a way for an add-on to expose this feature to a webpage, although there may well be some technique of which I am not aware.
Why do users need this feature? I assume it's not simply to upload a file to your intranet, or is it? You might be able to use a Flash uploader; plugins might have more privileges than HTML. -

Text tool in Photoshop CS5? Help!
Whenever I try to use the "Text" tool in Photoshop CS5 it freezes on my Mac laptop and I have to force quit losing all of my work if I haven't saved. Help please?!

There's some confusion on your part. Apple's Font Book is just a standard, integral part of the OS, and it gets installed with every installation of the OS.
There's a different application called FontBook (no space) by Lemke software that would not interfere with anything.

In this episode of the Adobe Creative Suite Podcast Terry White shows how to use the Pen Tool to create Art, Frames and to trace images in Photoshop CS6. If you've never used the Pen Tool before, this is your video!

How do I get PS CS5 to stop freezing when I select the type tool?
Okay, I've read the other threads about photoshop cs5 freezing up for various reasons. I'm running it on os x 10.5.8 on a dual quad 2.8 processor tower. Every time I open PS and select the type tool, my entire computer slows and freezes to the point I have to do a hard restart. I've tried disabling all fonts and the same things happens (though when they're all disabled I do get a text cursor before things hang up). I'm looking for any advice--I spend the entire day today trying to fix this.
Chris, I tried updating and it wouldn't install... Are you not allowed to install updates when you are using the "trial version"?
I sure would like to get this resolved before investing in the actual purchase of CS5. I always get the Master Collection and it's expensive.
So, if I can't install the update and try and find a fix to the issue, I don't think I'd be comfortable purchasing... you know?
That's why I ALWAYS download the trial version first... to see if there are issues before buying!
Anyway... I'll keep my eye on these posts to see if this has been cleared up... then, I'll buy.
But, thanks very much for your help and feedback to my question and concern.
appreciate it! -
photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden. happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point. i really need to get thsi figured out. thank you.
You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know. -
