How to enable Volume Meter in Surround Mix

This file "Mixer_LevelMeter.bmp" is in theme for Surround Mixer.

sonicx,
What sound card do you have? I don't have a sound meter option in the surround mixer for my Audigy LS or ZS cards. However, for the ZS card, I have a volume meter in WaveStudio. Also, the Creative MediaSource Player has meter bars. Have you tried those?Message Edited by Katman on 0-27-2006 0:08 PM

  • How do I get my old Surround Mixer recording sources back?

I recently had my computer repaired where I basically had a complete overhaul. In the process they installed a second soundcard (the one that went with the new motherboard) alongside my original Creative Sound Blaster Audigy card (Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX). Before, when I would record audio into my computer, I opened the Surround Mixer software and in the record pulldown menu it showed all of the inputs as they relate to my Audigy interface (SPDIF, Aux In 2, Line In 2, etc.). Now when I open the Surround Mixer software, I only get generic options such as Analog Mix, CD Digital, Microphone, etc. and therefore I can't get any outside audio into my computer.
I figured the computer?was defaulting to the?new sound card so I disabled the onboard audio in my BIOS and then installed the Creative Sound Blaster Series 2 Driver. I clicked on the driver and it said that it needed to uninstall another driver that was already there. The install went a little funny and it got hung up a couple of times. Then, I couldn't get Surround Mixer to work at all so I went to the Creative website and installed Software Auto Update. I downloaded and installed all the critical components?but that also went a little funny. It took about three tries and it didn't seem like it actually finished installing, but when I checked on Auto Update again, it said that I was up to date and that everything had installed. I noticed at the beginning that it installed a new version of Surround Mixer but when I opened it later, it still had those same generic options, not the the ones that match my external interface.
What do I need to do to get my original settings back?

    >Re: How do I get my old Surround Mixer recording sources back?p audiodrome,
Is the external Audigy Dri've properly connected? Does the Plat Ex have the rear jacks? If so, can you record from the rear LineIn or mic jack and play sound files through headphones or speakers? What happens when you run the Creative Diagnostic? What does Device Manager show? Otherwise, yes, uninstall and reinstall the Creative software. If your install CD has a repair option, try that first. However, you may find you need to remove the Audigy from your PC, reboot without it, and then reinstall everything. Some Soundblaster cards don't play well with some integrated soundcards, so you may also want to disable the integrated soundcard in BIOS.

  • How to add volume meter in Windows Form Application?

    Assalam-u-Alaikum everyone!
I've started working on Speech Recognition technology for my final year project. I am required to make a Speech Recognition System for Windows. I want to add volume meter in my software to see how loud the user is speaking.
I am new to this domain. Can someone please guide me through the basics of the process of adding volume meter? I visited many forums but didn't get what I am looking for. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate.
    I'll appreciate your generous reply.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How To Restore Audigy Platinum ex Surround Mixer EAX Default Environments, e

Does anyone know how to restore the default Surround Mixer Environments (such as Cathedral, Ballroom, etc.), Advanced EQ, and Special Effects without doing a reinstall of all the Creative software?
Some unknown application on my system is somehow "deleting" those default items and none of them appear in the Surround Mixer. The Surround Mixer itself works, only the default EAX items are missing.
If I knew what files/links that information was being stored in I could make sure my backup includes those items. Having to go back and reinstall from the CD and then applying all the updates is getting to be a real nuisance, especially since I haven't determined yet what is causing the problem.

I had a similar problem with XP Home/Audigy Platinum Ext - some inputs on the Li've Dri've not showing up in Sonar 4, Li've Dri've MIDI ports not working at all. I had to reinstall the card from scratch three times before it all got back to normal (because I did not fully unistall the drivers !) Sorry, I don't know the cause of this problem, but in my case reinstallation cured it.

  • SB Surround Mixer Volume Bind Keys/Quick K

    Howdy,
I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible (either with an external program or not) to assign quick keys or bind keys to functions within the Surround Mixer for my Audigy 2 Platinum.
For example, I have a Logitech keyboard with a scroll wheel on the side and I within the Logitech software it is possible to assign it to control the master volume, but for my purposes I would like it (or even some regular keys on the keyboard) to control the gain slider for the the Auxiliary 2 Input. This would be helpful to me, so I can mix the volume of my audio coming in via RCA into Aux 2 on the fly, while Im in a fullscreen application that is also running audio that doesn't take kindly to being alt tabbed - which makes it difficult to open the Surround Mixer Window every time I want to change something.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Is the mask value for this key 0x00000080 or 0x00001018?
Neither.  In the documentation, you'll see a table with an entry for
each key.  The table shows the "ACPI event" code (0x1018 in your]
example) and the "scan code" (0x17 corresponds to that event).
The documentation mentioned above is the README of the ibm-acpi,
where you hav ACPI events and scan codes explained. But, that's low-level thingy.
To configure the ThinkVantage button, simply follow instructions from the How to get special keys to work. For example,  Open an application
where you can find out keycode with xev and map desired action with xmodmap.
(On my T400, under X11 the ThinkVantage button generates event with keycode 156. You need to check yours using xev.)

  • How to make a decent surround mix?

I've never used STP, but I'm hoping you experts can help. I've posted this question in the FCP forum but got no respsonse. So I did a little more searching and realized this might be a better place for the question.
My goal is to take two-channel HD video, add a stereo music track, and produce something that sounds good in full surround. Is there any good tutorial on how I might make a modestly better surround mix? I'm not trying to win an Oscar here, or become a sound engineer. So simpler is better, please.
I've worked out a way to put surround sound into my HD movie, burn it to a DVD AVCHD using Toast, and get it all to play on a blu-ray player, Cool!! It looks great and has 5.1 Dolby Digital surround, all on a cheap DVD disk. I get about 30 minutes on the disk.
But now I realize I don't know jack about how to make it sound good. All I've tried so far is putting a stereo song into the surround speakers with the movie stereo in the fronts as usual. It's pretty cool, but it isn't exactly "immersive".
I think I might get a better result using an upmixing tool such as Upmix 1.1.1 from Cycling '74 (or is it KVR Audio?) to simulate 3D sound from my 2D source materials.
Has anyone tried something like this? Is it worth the bother? Any tips appreciated.

    My surround experiments test results:
Content: Two stereo tracks, a movie and a song.
Objective: Make a nice surround mix, something better than sending both tracks only to the fronts
Tools: Soundtrack Pro, Compressor 2.3.1 I have no system for "live" surround playback and no software designed to simplify front-rear fades and 3D sound placement. To test any mix, I have to burn it to disk and preview it on my (calibrated 7.1) home theater system.
*Hold Fixed:* No change was made to the stereo pan of either stereo pair. In all tests I let Compressor create a center mix at -3dB and a LFE using its low-pass filter checkbox.
*Experimental Design:* I have just four levers to pull - the level of each stereo pair in the front and in the rear. To simply testing, I used just 3 levels, 0 dB (no change), -3 dB and off, -∞. Four variables at 3 levels gives you 81 total combinations. Since I have to burn to disk, I can't run all those. Many tests can be eliminated as nonsensical, eg. the one test with all levels at -∞. Further eliminating the combinations that give level totals that are obviously too low or too extreme, I was left with 8 mixes I actually tested:
    Movie Music
    _F / R F/R Comment_
    1. 0 -∞ -∞ 0 Uncomfortable, too "obvious"
    2. -3 0 0 0 music a little dominant
    3. -3 0 0 -3 music too front
    4. 0 -3 0 0 not bad, music more forward than #6
    5. 0 0 0 -3 music too front
    6. 0 -3 -3 0 my favorite - very smooth transition when music starts
    7. 0 0 -3 0 music too rear, oddly
    8. 0 0 0 0 result pending
Conclusion: It's possible to make a dramatically improved sound mix over the two-channel stereo that is exported by iMovie. A starting point is simply duplicating the front signal into the surround speakers. A slight fade - in my case the movie was reduced in the rear and music reduced in the front - gives a nice "opening" of the sound and some sense of 3D. I believe this preset could be applied blindly to many movie+music projects and give an acceptable result.

  • Surround Mixing - Can't enable 7.1

I am playing with surround mixing for the first time. When I select 'Surround' as the output of my channel the 'Sound Panner' appears and allows me to write surround automation to my track.
It defaults to a 5.1 panner, but when I go into 'Preferences/Audio/Surround/Input' and select 'Show as: 7.1 (3/4.1)' as that what I'm interested in mixing in the 'Sound Panner' still appears as a 5.1 version in the channel strip...
Even if I assign surround to a new channel. Or start a new session with these defaults I can't get the 'Sound Panner' to appear as 7.1.
    Any thoughts as to why..?
    Many Thanks,
    Ped.

  • How to enable Creative Software in Vista with SBLive 5.1 Digi

******NOTE: This workaround involves using a 3rd party driver, and is not officially supported by Creative Labs ******
Please add any comments on the original post, found here: http://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=7420
***this solution seems a little hit and miss, i have had everything working for two days but just installed the latest ATI 7.2 catalyst driver and what do you know, the only thing that works now is wave studio, all other programs put the windows "this program has stopped working" message. I do not know whether or not this is directly related to the ATI driver or a windows update, but i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything. It has worked and i assume still does for some people....so this is not a guaranteed solution, it seems to be down to each machine as to whether this workaround works. I still have working sound, and its just as good, just no EAX anymore, and the functionality of most the programs seems to have disappeared. Still probably worth a try and you have nothing to lose*** I believe i have found a solution for users of SoundBlaster Live 5. Digital users on Vista. This workaround may support other soundblaster live cards, i have only been able to test it on mine so far so if anyone wants to test other cards, please let me know so we can add them to this list. This workaround should allow you to install your creative software from your installation disk, with a high level of functionality in VISTA, as well as getting your SBLive card working very nicely. So far, i have managed to use:
Playcentre, with all options including EAX Recorder, althought it will only let you record from the microphone EAX control panel, including modifying, importing and exporting of all Enviroments, FX and EQs Wavestudio - fully operational Audio HQ - Speakers and surround mixer dont work - EAX control panel will deal with most of this, and going to the sound option in Vista control panel will let you enable bass/treble and speaker config. Windows DriversMindisc Studio - This seems to work, although i no longer have a minidisc so cant confirm to what extent Remote Centre - as above. To actually achieve this is relatively simple, but i think a few people havent done all the steps, just the first few, and are left a bit confused as to how to set it up. If you follow these steps you should have nothing to set up, by the last step you should have a system which thinks it has a SBlive installed, and all the standard creative software in the start menu, to use almost as normal. It is relatively uncomplicated to do and takes about 5-20 minutes.
STEP ONE If your card is currently installed IE: it appears as recognised in the device manager, begin by uninstalling it. You should ideally begin this whole process with your card uninstalled. STEP TWO Download the following driver:http://download.kxproject.lugosoft.com/downloads/kxdrv3538m-full.exe
** This is a third party driver and is not endorsed or supported by creative.
What this driver will do is allow your pc to recognise your SBlive. Download the driver somewhere convienient EG: desktop. Do not install yet
STEP THREE Reboot your system, and when the popup comes up asking where drivers are , ignore and close them - do not direct the systems to the drivers as you are going to install them yourself. Once you have shut all the popup windows and driver requests, Click on the KXDRV3538m-full.exe you should have on your desktop. This will unpack the drivers and should automatically run the installation program. Follow the onscreen prompts to fully install the driver and the KX software. Once you have followed this installation, you should be asked to reboot, do so and when you reload you should have sound when you logon to windows.
This is only half of the solution, you must continue the with next steps
STEP FOUR - CREATIVE SOFTWARE Ok so now you want to put all the creative software you were used to on XP onto your system. This as is straightforward as you could want it to be - simply put your creative disk in and install the card drivers and software as per usual, you should have no errors and the install should complete in 5-0 minutes - As per usual you will be asked to restart which is fine.
STEP FIVE - Completed When windows loads up now you should still have sound, except now your system recognises your card - and by going into the start menu you should find that nearly all creative programs that you installed - with the exception of surround mixer will work, in some cases with full functionality. Please refer to the top of the thread to see what programs offer what. ***Other required workaroundsTo enable the microphone in Recorder, you must right click on the .exe in the root folder(C:/Program files/Creative/Programs/...), select Properties > compatability and set it to XP SP2
***Notes Bass, treble and speaker settings can be found in the Sound option on the control panel, OPEN sound, click on speakers (SBLIVE) and there will be an option TONE. Bizarrely these sliders dont slide - clicking on them activates them and sets them to the middle, but you can not change them. However it sets it to the right amount, so any bass/treble problems can be resolved using the EQ in your audio player, or in the EAX control panel. To my knowledge, once you have completed stage five, you can actually uninstall the KX drivers that you installed in Step Two. This driver is only needed to allow you to install the official Creative Drivers and everything should still function after the uninstall of the KX driver. You must follow all steps to get your creative software working. i currently have the following programs working in VISTA:
    www.thebast.com/Citech2007/itworks.jpg
***I must also add that i am not responsible for these drivers, and will not take the credit for them as that would be highly unfair on the guy (whose name i dont know) who went to all the effort to create them. I simply tried his drivers, and then tried installing the creative software once i had which is how i got to writing this guide. As you can see from the screengrab above, this worked.

    Hi Don,
I did answer a similar question but of course cannot find the thread anymore.
Your expression to increment the counter is OK. In CP5 the increment action is not listed anymore in the dropdown lists of the advanced action.
In your analysis you do forget this: the user can rollover twice on the same area, not? And do you want all text captions to remain visible once they have been made visible?
Perhaps another approach: create a user variable for each Rollover slidelet, initially set to 0. In the action executed on Rollover check first if its variable = 1, in that case only the Text Caption has to be made invisible again (in case you hide it when other rollover areas are activated), if it is 0, you change the variable to 1, add it to your counter, show the Text Caption and hide the other Text Captions, and then only check the value of the counter, if it is 4 you show the button (or enable it, but I do not like to show a disabled button to a user).
As for using a counter to do something, I have used something like that in my Menu Template (second use case). Here is the link to that blog post:

  • Exporting files for Surround mix... fairly urgent!

hi there... I'm having an advert piece i've written mixed in surround sound which is a first for me. it was all recorded and mixed my end in stereo so I need to know how best to export them for the mix engineer. I am yet to hear from them so I was wandering if anyone could answer the following:
    - Should I send split or interleaved files (assuming 48khz 24 bit .aifs are suitable)?
    - Where there is corrective or creative compression or EQ, should I keep in bounced versions?
    - Where tracks are panned, should I bounce this information or leave centered?
    - Where a track is bussed to a reverb for example, should I send the bus as a separate track, or send the original file wet?
    - Where more than one SFX appears on a track, should I separate them onto separate tracks?
    - I'm assuming I should retain creative volume rides in the bounced information (eg. long fades).
And is there anything I'm overlooking? I'd be VERY grateful for any input (this has to be sent by tomorrow afternoon!).
    Thanks

Q: Should I send split or interleaved files (assuming 48khz 24 bit .aifs are suitable)?
    A: Interleaved! see down here.
Q: Where there is corrective or creative compression or EQ, should I keep in bounced versions?
A: depends on the media you are going to ship your production.
Q: Where tracks are panned, should I bounce this information or leave centered?
A: Be shure your tracks are surround at the first place. then the pans could have been converted. better check in the Automation screen if it does.
Q: Where a track is bussed to a reverb for example, should I send the bus as a separate track, or send the original file wet?
A: By my knowledge is this your choice. In the bounce all tracks are mixed to the 5+1 (or the 7+1) channels.
Q: Where more than one SFX appears on a track, should I separate them onto separate tracks?
A: Deepends on the effects you have in mind. I see no reason do split it up.
Other thing: if you are going to bounce be shure it is a PCM 48000 (required for replay on standard dvd player) Interleaved (all channels in one file) put the button Surround on.
checking your work on a standard video-dvd-player is only possible if you put the audio files in to a video stream with a black image as video. there is no other option unless you have a DVD-A player in your collection. such a player is hard to find these days.
    hope this helps a little,

  • Gnome Brightness and Volume Meter

So, whenever I turn compositing on in Metacity, I get the nice pretty popup with transparent background and all that for volume. However, the brightness popup remains the same as it was before. Now, this wasn't a terrible problem at first, but it's now becoming bothersome, especially since I'm now using notify-osd, and the volume meter comes up in a notification as opposed to Gnome's native display. Has anyone else had this problem/know how to fix it?
    Peter

I'm not sure but perhaps the gnome brightness app is not aware that compositing is enabled (i.e. it doesn't check) whereas the sound daemon does?  Mine behaves in exactly the same way as yours using Compiz.

  • My on-screen volume meter has just stopped working.

I have a HP DV7 Entertainment laptop with Windows 7 64 bit.  Up until about a week ago everytihng was working just fine when I adjusted the volume from the keyboard control.  The volume would raise, lower or mute with the keys along with an on-screen display indicating the current level the volume is set to.  But now thw on-screen display is not functioning.  The volume will still raise, lower, or mute with tthe button presses, but just the on-screen does not work.  I dont know what I did, but maybe it had something to do with a new Windows theme that I changed to, because I noticed it not functioning along the same time i changed that.  i changed back to the original theme that was set before and restarted, but still nothing.  How do I get this display back?

Did you ever get an answer to your problem?  I have the exact same PC and the exact same problem.  Online Chat Help told me to uninstall MediaSmart and reinstall it but my system cam preloaded with that software and it's a hassle to get set up on the server and everything so I don't want to do that.   It doesn't seem like such drastic measures should be necessary for such a small thing.  Did you ever get your volume meter to display again when you used the keyboard controls?
