How to ensure recovery DVDs will work?

I just purchased an A505-S6005 and first thing, created the recovery DVDs. Is there a way to check the DVDs to make sure they will work if I should need them later? It makes me a little nervous to have to create them myself. Thanks!

Toshiba doesn't do much of anything right when it comes to supporting their systems.  I agree that a better way of testing the disks would be good, but it's doubtful they will ever implement such a system.  They sell way too many laptops and because of this they won't change their way of doing things because they don't think they need to.  If they really cared about their users they would be prompted to create the disks as soon as the system fires up for the first time with an either make them now or remind me in two days (for those people who don't have blank disks ready to go).
In my case I had created a complete backup image of the hard drive to an external hard drive so I was covered i they didn't work.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How to use recovery dvd on new hard drive, install window 7

hello, i have trouble with my laptop. my hard drive got bad sectors and now i need to replace my hdd to new one. im not sure how to reinstall window 7 on my new hdd.
is it possible to install operating system on new hard drive using recovery disk? and how?

    Hi,
Yes, recovery discs will work on a new hard drive, but it's generally best to ensure that the replacement drive is of the same capacity ( slightly larger is Ok ) as the original - recovery discs can have issue when used on a drive that has a smaller capacity than the original.
When you have replaced the HDD, all you need to do is as follows.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.
    Insert the 1st Recovery Disc.
Select Boot options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.
You will be prompted to insert subsequent discs as required.

I'm going to Poland this summer and I'm afriad my iphone5s won't wrong!how do I know it will work or will I have wifi?? I need to contact my mom when I get there and I'm scared to won't be able to

How do you normally do ti when you switch computers?
Does Windows not have a method of transferring everything from one computer to another?
You can use your backup copy of your computer to copy everything.
For the itunes portion, you can type "move itunes library" into the google search bar.
Windows should have a way to copy all doc/pics/files/contacts/calendars/etc.

  • Factory recovery dvds will not work. hp g62t vu636av

    windows 7 home premium 64bit
it's been so long i dont remember how/when this started.  it was either a windows update or a hp total care update, after the update my computer would load the hp logo bios screen then would either say boot mgr missing or no bootable device. i got out my factory recovery dvds and ran them.  it would read the disksload the files but when writing them onto the hdd it would stop at 12% i tried it a number of times with the same result.  then i found a win7 disk of the same release, loaded a fresh copy of win 7 and it worked great.  then my computer did a few updates and the exact same thing happened, no bootable device, etc.  called hp customer care. they decided i needed new recovery media.  did not work.  same 12% result.  hp decided it was a hdd issue.  they sent me a new hard drive, and new recovery media.  same 12% result with new hard drive and new recovery media.  i have no idea what to do now.  help.

If all has been replaced except the system board then it is time to contact warranty services again.

  • [U310] How to use recovery DVDs

In windows 8, it is impossible to create recovery DVDs with Lenovo OneKey Recovery 8.0.
The option has been eliminated. WHY?
Now I ordered the DVDs, but I don't know how to use it !! What I did was:
    -  Since U310 has not DVD drive, I create ISO file and burn it to USB drive using UltraISO.
    - BIOS: RAID, Legacy support, boot USB HDD,
But I still get CD/ROM  error while product recovery. Why?
Anyone could help? any other settings needed?
Or the very latest BIOS version of 65CN99WW not support USB HDD image?
thanks in advance for any hints.

    thanks Solid Cruver,
the USB was bootable, and according to your post:
    ‎09-10-2013 05:28 PM
    Inside BIOS
        Under Boot Tab
              Change Boot mode to Legacy
               USB Boot should be enabled
        Under Security
Secure Boot Has to Be disabled
In case the options above are grayed out in your BIOS, Got to Exit Tab and Change OS Optimized Default to Other OS
    and check the options again.
Once All are Set Make sure to save all changed by hitting F10 and enter for Yes
After Hitting enter It will Restart and You have to keep on tapping F12
this should pull up the Boot Menu letting you select where to boot. You should have now your USB Stick as an Option.
The security boot choice can only be found under UEFI boot. But what I need is Boot mode to Legacy, and boot to Legacy first with USB. i.e. if I choose Legacy boot, the security setting will not appear, so I think it will set back to eanabled to prevent other OS installation?
Do I need to choose AHCI and iRST off? Any other tricky things? any priority of the 3 USB ports?

  • How to use Recovery DVD to install new copy of OS and CUSTOM PARTITIONS?

    Hi
I have problem with start appropriate recovery function from created Thoshiba Recovery DVD.
I burn two DVD using Toshiba Media Recovery Creator witch was preinstalled on my computer. Now I want to use it to install new copy of Windows 7 OS on my laptop. BUT I would not want to clear entire HDD. I want to format only C: partition, and leave data on my D: partition. Also I want to define C: partition size.
When I insert DVD and boot form it, some app start but display info that all partition will be removed. I can not choose another option.
    How can I do it?

    Hello

  • How do you get dvds to work on regular dvd players?  It works on PC dvd player just fine.

I created a movie via Elements 13 (Using Windows 7) using video from my camcorder.  I added menus and such and then burned it to a DVD -R using Elements 13.  The dvd will play on a computer via the dvd player but it won't play
on a regular dvd player that is hooked to my TV.  What am I missing?

    gibbyutah
What did you create in Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 7 (assumed 64 bit) - DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc or AVCHD format on DVD disc.
Although you can use a regular DVD burner to create the AVCHD format on DVD disc, it will not play back on a regular DVD player. You need
a Blu-ray player or one of those multi media players whose specifications include support for AVCHD format on DVD disc.
So, first order of things is for you to confirm which type of product you produced using Premiere Elements 13.
Also, be aware that stop markers in Premiere Elements (any version) burn to AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc do not
function at playback. Those stop markers work only for DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.
Please let us know if any of the above targeted your issue. If not, more details please, and we will think about this some more.
Also, please review the specification of your TV's DVD player to verify its specifications as to type of disc supported as well as the format on
    that particular disc.
    Thank you.

  • IMac picks and chooses what DVDs will work in Super Drive

I just bought a early 2009 iMac used from a friend and he had wiped the computer clean using the Mac OS X disc. He had forgot to install the apps disc with iLife and when I tried to use it, it spit it out. The iWork disc worked fine but it is in totally perfect condition. The app disc was just barely scuffed up.
I tried a movie DVD and it still spit it out. Putting several music CDs in that were in horrible condition however read fine. So has anyone else had this problem? Is there any kind of solution to this? It worked fine for my friend before he sent it and now it only works with CDs, and the one iWork DVD. I also just tried another random movie DVD that is actually pretty scratched up and it took it just fine. I have tried the PRAM thing, but not sure if there is a way to see what the DVD drive is doing or clear it all out?

iMac SuperDrives have always been picky.
Try cleaning your DVDs & CDs, as per > How to Clean a DVD or CD Disc ?
Then perhaps the SuperDrive's Lenes, with a > CD and DVD Lens Cleaning Kit
For additional info and support, see > Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive

  • Optical Drive dead - what external CD/DVD will work?

    Hi ZDarton,
I'm a big fan of LaCie, I have several of their external HDs and I've used their external optical drives before for CD replication. Their prices are pretty fair, their build quality is very good and my experiences with their customer service department is always solid. Here's some options from their product line:

Well that is the thing, since you upgraded your OS to Windows 7 Ultimate, the HP support assistant., system recovery or recovery manager & also hp recovery HDD partition will really not exist.
the best option for you is to go ahead and buy a recovery disc, call the hp support hotline or through the hp website...

  • How to make recovery dvd from original lion

    hi
i buyed the new macbook pro with lion software 1- why  there is no cd comes withet 2-how can i make a recovery cd 3- why lion is not at list of purched software at apple store if apple sale the hardware with that
    tanks

Computers that now come with Lion pre-installed do not require a disc. They would be restored via the Internet Recovery system: OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery. You can create an emergency Recovery HD volume on a USB flash drive using the OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant.
It is possible to make a bootable installer but the process is a bit involved:
Downloading Hardware Specific Lion Installers will enable you to get a copy of the Lion installer application from which you can make a bootable Lion installer on an 8 GB USB flash drive:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

  • Burnt DVD will work on computers but NOT on DVD players

Hi everybody just hoping I could get some help with this please
I'm attempting my first project which is just a DVD of my holiday to the USA
The main menu has a PLAY ALL button and a SCENE SELECT button
In the SCENE SELECT menu there are a list of links (places I visited) that take you to another sub-menu which are ANAHEIM, LAS VEGAS, SAN DIEGO, HOLLYWOOD, HAWAII, etc. Each of these sub-menus will have either more sub-menus or will start playing the chapter that the user selects
When I play the DVD on my PC everything works perfectly and so do all the menu links. I've tried PowerDVD, Windows player, and Nero and they all work! I even tried the DVD I burnt on my laptop and that too works fine without any problems
The problem occurs when I try and play the DVD on my 3 different DVD players around the house!
The DVD players are a SONY, an LG, and a cheapo generic brand
With all 3 DVD players the PLAY ALL button works fine
All the locations in the SELECT SCENE menu also work EXCEPT for the first location which is ANAHEIM
Not a single link on the ANAHEIM menu works and when you try to select one of the links, 2 of the DVD players will freeze and 'crash' the DVD which I then have to switch the power off and restart and on the other DVD player the DVD just automatically stops and I have to press start again
Anybody know why this is happening? The main difference between ANAHEIM and the rest of the locations is that ANAHEIM has more sub-menus than the rest. Basically each section of both Disney parks has it's own menu
I thought maybe I went over some kind of limit that I'm not aware of BUT the DVD works on both PC's that I tested it on
Does the brand of the blank DVD I used play a role? I also burnt it at a slow speed so not sure what else to try
    Thanking you all in advance!

One of my main tests to rule out buring issues is to play on the computer.  So yes, your disk/burning have to be suspect.
What brand/type of media?  What speed?  You have outlined excellent information, but, in the end, specifics help.
It should not matter, but what version of Encore?
That said, it is odd that it is one submenu and its submenus.  I assume single layer DVD?
There is a 1 Gig limit on the size of all menus including motion assets.  I wonder if this can be involved?
Try burning a DVD+RW for a test.  Try any different media that you have around.  In the end Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim still get the most recommendations here.

  • How do you get DVDs to work?

    Hello,
I was wondering if there was an easy way to get commrecial DVDs (e.g Star trek Film) to work on the IPOD.
When you insert teh DVD it is not recogised by Itunes.
Is there a really easy way to get it on the Ipod without paying to download?
    Keith

iTunes does not recognize DVDs. It's not one of its functions.
In order to copy a commercial DVD, you'd need to break the encryption. Breaking that encryption is illegal in the U.S. (and other countries). Because it's illegal and these forums are being hosted in the U.S. by a U.S. based company, the Terms of Use prohibit discussion of copying commercial DVDs.
    Best of luck.

  • [Solved] How to get CD/DVD drive working?

I've been trying to get it to work since Day 1, just a few weeks ago. The default settings didn't work, no matter what I tried. I removed all mentions of optical drives from fstab and installed hal, to no avail. I've tried stealing other people's settings, copying my old ones from Ubuntu; pretty much everything I could think of. I've read the "How To fstab" on the Ubuntu forums, and searched Google many times. In the hopes of finally having a functional optical drive, I ask you:
What do I need to do?

Hello everybody! I, too have a problem with my cdrom drive. When I'm trying to mount it I get the error:"special device /dev/cdrom does not exist".  I know that usually /dev/cdrom it's a link to a real device, but there is no device in /dev (beside my 2 HDDs). fdisk -l shows me only the HDD partitions. I didn't found any errors in my log files. Actually, Arch it's not seeing my CDROM drive.
