How to enter password for IMAP mail account

After re-setting keychain I can't get some of my email accounts back online.
The main iCloud account is okay, it simply requested password and re-appeared in the Mail application.
However, I have a second email account with Apple that dates back to pre .Mac days and it's no longer online.
When I open Accounts, there's no longer a window for entering password. I know there used to be one here, and there still is for Exchange or Google accounts. How do I get the other IMAP accounts back online?
thanks,

just found out that clicking on the little 'flash' symbol within email app brings up question box for password.
still doesn't explain why password box is no longer in accounts, but i suppose that's 'progress' with apple.

    Hi StuNYC,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions that will resolve most issues that  cause an alert like that to appear in when starting the Mail app.

  • Mail continues to ask me for password for deleted Mail account

Hey guys, I've deleted an old mail account in both the Mail application itself, as well as the Accounts folder in my system preferences.  Nonetheless, Mail continues to ask me to type in the password for this old gmail account.
It's gotten so annoying that I'm not able to use mail anymore and have to use Thunderbird, which is ok, but I love how everything syncs.
A funny thing.... This is the computer that syncs with my iPhone 4s, and yet I have no issues with the mail accounts on the iPhone.
I imagine it's some old bit of data somewhere in the back of my system, but I don't know much about how these things work.
I can provide images of how my Accounts in system preferences works and how that compares to the error message if you need it.  Also I can tell you anything else you need to know.
This problem is so annoying...can you help?

  • Changed password for e-mail account and cannot send e-mails

Went into setting, "mail, contacts and calendar" under my e-mail account I changed the password, but now I can't send any e-mails out.  Checked with comcast and all the settings are correct.  What is the problem?

If your email provider requires the password for sending emails then as well as changing it on the account when you tap on it in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, you may also need to tap on SMTP (under the 'outgoing mail server' heading) on that popup screen and then tap on the outgoing server name on the next screen and update the password there as well.

  • Keep getting a mail pop up "enter password for account "SBC." ATT says I need to update my Mac mail server program. Anyone know how I can do this?

I keep getting an annoying pop up for mail "Enter password for account "SBC."  I enter my password but it still pops up. But I can still get my mail when I click on "Get mail."  I called ATT and they said they are aware of the problem with Mac users and that I have to update my Mac Mail server program. Anyone know how I can do this? They want to charge me.

RE: "Mail, Contacts and Calendars preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account "bellsouth.net".
I recently changed my ATT U-Verse password…and Mail quit working… it wouldn't send or receive, Safari worked fine.  I tried to send an email and a warning message popped up, "Mail, Contacts and Calendars preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account "bellsouth.net". In smaller type the next sentence read, "Enter the password for user [email protected]". The Password box was highlighted in blue so I just typed in my new password and my email message was immediately sent…but… I still couldn't receive messages AND the above "can't connect" warning message kept popping up on the screen at random.
Here's the Fix that worked for me. (The problem is that the new password was changed/updated on the keychains "smpt.att.yahoo.com" name-but- the name "pop.att.yahoo.com" didn't update to my new password).
Go to your Utility windows and select Keychain Access. Under Category select Passwords. Now check your password for your current (newest dated) name, "smpt.att.yahoo.com". Now check the password under, "pop.att.yahoo.com". Mine wasn't the same as my newest password found in my
"smpt.att.yahoo.com" window so I deleted my old password in the "pop.att.yahoo.com" window and typed in my new password, then selected "Save Changes". MY MAIL NOW WORKED…and no more warning messages cropped up. Problem was fixed.

  • How to End the Error message: "enter the password for the exchange account"

i completed configure Exchange Account on my iPhone, but still show the error message:  "enter the password for the exchange account"

make sure you don't have 2 step verification in gmail.
    otherwise you need to follow
    Signing in using application-specific passwords
The codes that you’ll get with 2-step verification don’t work with all applications. There are a few applications that use information from your Google Account (like the Gmail application on your phone, or Outlook) that require another type of code. These are called application-specific passwords.
Some devices and applications that use these special passwords include:
POP and IMAP email clients such as Outlook, Mail and Thunderbird
Gmail and Google Calendar on smartphones
ActiveSync for Windows Mobile and iPhone
    YouTube Mobile on Apple devices
    Cloud Print
Installed chat clients such as Google Talk and Adium
3D Warehouse, Sketchup, and installed applications
    AdWords Editor
    Sync for Google Chrome
    Gmail Notifier
How to generate an application-specific password
Unlike a verification code that you receive from your phone or through Google Authenticator, application-specific passwords are generated. You don’t have to memorize them, ever - you simply generate a new one each time you need to sign into a particular application. Follow the steps below to generate your application-specific password:
Visit the Authorizing applications & sites page (pictured below) under your Google Account settings.
Under the Application-specific passwords section, enter a descriptive name for the application (label 1) you want to authorize, such as "AdWords Editor – Desktop," then click “Generate application-specific password" (label 2).
You'll then see the application-specific password you just created (3). You'll also see the name you wrote in for the device (4) and a link to Revoke (5) -- or cancel -- the code.
Once you click Done, you’ll never see that application-specific code again. But don't panic: You can generate a new one whenever you’re prompted for an application-specific password by a non-browser device or application -- even a device or application you’ve authorized before.
    Using application-specific passwords
When prompted for a password when you sign in to a non-browser application or device that accesses your Google Account:
    Enter your username.
Enter your application-specific password in the password field.
If your application has an option to remember your application-specific password or stay signed in, you can select that option so you won’t have to generate and enter a new application-specific password each time you access your account from this application or device.

Each time I start iPhone or iPad I get a message: 'Password required/ Enter the password for the CardDAV account'. Can anyone tell me what that is about and how to eliminate.
Also this began happening the same time my Yahoo mail account was hacked which resulted in my mail program (on mini) to fail. It crashes on startup.
    Thanks

Thanks Steve that did it on my iPad. It was the yahoo account. Im beginning to think that Yahoo is dangerous. It was the hacking of my Yahoo mail account that started these problems. My mail account on my mini still does not work. I posted the problem here and got real professional advice  but to no avail it still doesnt work and I cant re-install the OS because Im in China and their Great firewall keeps the net too slow.

  • I don't know the password for the SMTP account so as to mail photos.  How can I retrieve or change the password?

I am unable to share photos from the Iphoto program because I don't know the password for the SMTP account.  How can I either retrieve or change that password?  Or is it one I already should know?

Have you set the general preferences in iPhoto to email using iPhoto? Then change it to email using "Mail". This way iPhoto will use your regular Mail account.

  • Mail:-Enter Password for Account?Enter Password for Account?Enter Pas......

Why does Mail keep asking me," Enter Password for Account..........The POP server"pop.wanadoo.co.uk" rejected the password for user.........
I enter password, get and read mail but still this message appears so I press cancel. I have never worked out if a password is needed or not. "Remember in Keychain" has been used but again I do not know if this is needed and even then message appears.
    What have I got wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

What is your time interval setting for automatically checking for new mail?
If set to every minute, change it to every 5 or 15 minutes.
Also, try using Keychain First Aid.
Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities. Choose Window > Keychain First Aid. Select your primary/login Keychain, enter your password, click Repair and then the Start button. A log will appear reporting any problems repaired.

imap.gmail is the Google mail server. It doesn't recognize the password that is stored in the iPhone. The problem is that the password or email address you have in Settings for the gmail account is wrong. If you changed the password somewhere else that is the reason. You need to go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, tap on the gmail account and enter the correct password. You also need to change it for outgoing mail in Settings.

  • How do I find my password for my .mac account?

How do I find my password for my .mac account?
I open up 'Mail' on my macbook and this comes up - The iCloud IMAP server “p01-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “************”
No idea where to find out what this password is. Any ideas??

The password is the same as for the other iCloud facilities. If you can log into the iCloud website at http://icloud.com with the same password then you've probably run into a server issue which has affected some people, though you could try signing out in System Preferences>iCloud and signing back in again, which sometimes fixes it. (And sometimes doesn't.)
If you can not get into the website you can change your password at http://appleid.apple.com - click 'Reset password' and sign in with your iCloud ID (not your iTunes ID if this is different).

  • How do you set up to back up iPad notes in iCloud?  I turned on backing up notes in iCloud settings, and it asked me to create a .me account, which I did, but I don't see my notes anywhere on iCloud, and I never received a password for my .me account.

You'll find your notes under Mail in iCloud. There's a separate folder on the left that's labeled notes so you can access them anywhere. And your me.com account will have the same password as your Apple ID (in fact, you can log into iCloud with just your Apple ID, as the two accounts are permanently linked).

What is an Exchange account? When I open the email app I get the message "Password Incorrect. Enter the password for the Exchange account "Exchange""

An Exchange account is an e-mail account serviced my a Microsft Exchange server... Typically a corporate e-mail account. It used to be possible to configure a free gmail account as an Exchange account, but it is no longer possible to set one up that way.
