How can we send and receive big files between Mac users (apart from Dropbox) ?

If you aren't on the same local network (which I assume you aren't), then the easiest solution is to use Google.
If you simply google "sending large files" you will get hundreds of suggestions/applications.
Ie Dropbox, Google, YouSendIt, FTP, etc

I have a new Mac running Lion. My wife has a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8.
How do I share files between the 2 machines. Her laptop shows up in my Finder and my Mac shows up in her Finder. We try to copy files and it looks like they are copied (using iPhoto export), but there is nothing there. When I try to browse her laptop from my Mac, I am told I don't have permission.
Is this something that can be done? I would like to think so.

How to share iTunes library between two users on the same Mac

We have recently bought a Macbook Pro and have successfully transferred the old PC information onto the Mac. But, the iTunes library from the PC has now just gone into the old user acct. I am now confused as to which iTunes user name I connect my devices? Is there a way to merge these two iTunes through the user accts?

It's doable. As it's been pointed out Aperture has no provisions for file locking so you can't have two users accessing the library at the same time. This includes having one user having the library open only for browsing. Aperture doesn't have a +Read Only+ mode, when it opens the library, even if you make no changes to any images, the library will be written to.
This also means you can't have one user open the library and then stop using Aperture but still have the library open and then have another copy of Aperture open on the library.
Of course if you have two copies of Aperture running even they are on different libraries you'll be in violation of the license and you'll have bigger problems to worry about then a toasted library.

How do I transfer files between mac using Thunderbolt cable?

I don't want to migrate the whole content from one mac to another. I don't want the hassle of setting on one mac as a target disk. I just want to be able to transfer the occasional file from my iMac to my MacBook Pro using the Thunderbolt cable.
I heard that Thuderbolt was superfast so I shelled out crazy money to buy a 2 meter piece of cable in the hope of making my life more productive. But it seems to be far from super straightforward!
Both Macs have Thunderbolt ports and are running Mavericks so it should not be too complicated. What am I missing?

Thunderbolt Bridge appears on both Macs - some times both status lights are red, sometimes one is yellow and one is red, sometimes both are yellow. Do both lights have to be at least yellow before data can be transferred? Or should they glow green?

How to secure BSP applications for external users on the internet?

I posted this question under Enterprise Portal forum but got no response. I am hoping some of you experts in this area can help.
We have developed BSP applications and set them up as iViews in Enterprise Portal 6. Our portal implementation will be used by external users.
We have security concerns that the access to the BSPs allows external users direct access to the R/3 system. We were told that we should use ITS application instead of BSP application for external users.
Do any of you have any insight into how we could work around the security problem with BSP applications, or BSP applications in EP6? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

In sense they are correct as to whether it is more secure or not would have to be a call by people who are more of an expert than myself.
But I can see there point the BSP runs directly on the system and uses the system security where as the ITS is basically just an RFC call. However for us we use a 620 server with BSP's and make RFC calls to our R/3 systems thus keeping people of the R/3 directly - however we are not opened to the Internet.

I believe your computer is already configured and has all the requirements for Wake on Lan since it works locally. To do it remotely you need to open the regular port numbers used for WOL like UDP ports 9 and 32767. Your desktop IP address must be set to static because that's what you need to enter on the port forwarding page of your router. How do I share contacts between separate users on the SAME Mac?

I need help with an issue that came up today. A client asked me to put all her friend's names and addresses into her contacts. After entering all the names into the address book I realized that I had entered them all into her husband's contacts, as his user ID was logged on when I opened the computer. I now need to find a way to export/transfer/copy all those entries to a separate contacts/address book on the SAME Mac? Anyone have a simple solution?

How can I share files between two users? or merge the user accounts

my laptop came home from the shop with two user accounts -never noticed that before - and some files are in one user account, some in another. I want to share them so I can just use one account. I just upgraded to Lion, so that may be an issue. Best of all would be to merge the two accounts so I don't have to think about it- just like 2 weeks ago. As it is, I have to log into one account to use Quicken, and another to use iWork - else I cannot access the files

How can I share in read/write directories (e.g. documents, pictures. I got an iMac with an SSD and a hard drive. Shared and Public are located in the SSD, which I want to avoid to use.I want shared directories on the hard drive. I also looked at a previous response recommending Sharepoint, which doesn't work either, at it states in the doc that sharing applies only to the directory shared, not including subfolders.

i got arround it by emailing it to my yahoo account and then going into her user area, and accsessing my self sent email from her safari, then chose save attachment to desktop and bingo. But that sure seems like a lot of work to me..
But it has worked.

Sharing Files between Mac's in the same Network

ok, I have a Mac Pro and my sister has an iMac
I know how to share files but I get annoyed by this:
1)I only want to share my "Public Folder" but instead, it not only shares my Public folder but also my "Macintosh HD and System" Folder. And I cant find a way to hide this folders. It does it by default how can I fix this.
The same thing happens for both Mac's not only the Public folder gets share but the system and Macintosh HD as well.
*This has nothing to be with 10.5.4 update... since i was trying to figure this out long time ago...
2) I have a laptop computer running Vista, when i had 10.5.1 I was able to see the PC monitor in my finder window to share my files, after 10.5.2 came out, every time I turn on my laptop , the icon does not show up on my Mac. And i hate going to "finder/go/connect to server" option

I know what you mean, I am having the same problem. I think I figured out why this is happening though.
This is what happens when you turn on "file sharing":
"Users you have set up with accounts in Accounts preferences can access your computer by connecting to it over the network. *A user with an administrator account can access your entire computer.*"
I am assuming that your sister has an admin account on her iMac, which automatically gives her full access to your hard drive.
Does anyone know how to restrict file sharing, even for administrators in the network?
