How to exclude the backup of a drive in vmware mirage server

I want to ask that how to exclude the backup of a drive in vmware mirage server.

I have developed an environment called VDI(Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) in which user is assigned a drive(i.e. D:).When I use to take backup of D: drive then by default with D: drive mirage server use to take backup of C: drive too. That's why i want to exclude the backup of C: drive .Please help me out to solve this.

how about copying the backup to a server instead of a hard drive? Doesn't seem to work.

ISP's cap your upload speed to a fraction of your download so you don't run a server off your computer.
You can certainly spend more money to upload faster, but it's a waste of money and the data online can vanish or be held or spied upon.
Then there is a prolem that you want to restore your system and there is slow Internet.
Apple now requires fresh OS X installs to come from them online, it's better to have local drive to boot from anytime, so a bootable clone is ideal, better than TimeMachine which is only a backup system

How to stop the backup process....
Okay, so it happens nearly everytime you synch your iPhone with your iTunes? Easy. As soon as it starts, hit the "X" in the bar where the backup process is being shown, this does NOT STOP the synching process, ONLY the backup process.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that a few times during the week (depends how often you synch ur iPhone) it will be good to let the backup process let run fully.
    There we go. Problem solved...

i agree its what i do i backup whenever i add a new app, or take more pics etc its exactly what i do its what ive been saying on all these threads talking about backups etc, im hoping in 2.0.1 will be bug fixes about this sort of thing...

If you make a BartPE bootable ISO or CD,  you can add a 'DiskPart' folder in your Plugins folder.   Then put the following contents inside that 'DiskPart' folder.  The file name should be "DiskPart.inf"
This will allow you to boot from the BartPE CD, open a command prompt, and use Diskpart like you would from within Windows normally.    We extended C drives of old systems (VMs) many times this way.   I'm reasonably sure our BartPE CD is based
    of Server 2003 Standard SP2.

  • 160 GB to backup approx how large should the backup made by TM be?

Just completed my first TM backup. 160GB took up about 19GB in backup space. Does this make sense? Did it get everything? This is my first Mac. Loving it! I remember back when making a zip file on a PC was a big deal, so I'd like to make sure that I actually have a complete backup and that the file sizes make sense.

Hmm, no. It should be about the same - usually a little bigger including overhead. How are you determining the size of the backup? Is this a drive dedicated to Time Machine, or is there other stuff on the drive? If you go into Time Machine preferences, under Options, are there any excluded locations?

  • How to restore the backup which we taken from db13 ?

    Hi .........
I am taking full back up from DB13 to hard disk and tape drive every day.
Please tell me how to restore this backup which is taken from db13.
    4.7E, MSSQL , Windows 2003 server.
    Gayatry.

If its the same server you took the backup from the backup history for the DB will be stored against it. If its a different server you will need to catalog the backup tape to read in the history/contents.
Lets assume its the same server, with the same file locations.
From SQL Ent Mgr - with SAP stopped.
    right click  the DB
    select restoredb
select the set you want to restore from the history
select the options you need (ie leave off line for addition TL restore, or bring online)
It really is that simple - you cant go wrong (assuming you select the correct set!)

  • How to reduce the backup size?

    HI there,
I am syncing an iPad 32 GB and an iPhone 64 GB via icloud. Photos are not backed, no photostream activated. Apps which are allowed to upload to icloud for backup are very limited. Mail is not syncing to iCloud as well. Still, my backup size is for each device about 2.3 and 2.6 GB big. I want to stay under the 5Gb limit. Any idea, what might take up such a huge amount of backup space?  I already deleted the backup via settings --> icloud in each device, but that didn't help much.
Both devices are running the latest iOS.
    Thank you very much!

iCloud backup has an on/off switch, so tell me how you think you have managed to exclude things?
FYI, Photostream and Photos are not part of an iCloud backup.
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books Your iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. • How to reformat the new MacMini Fusion Drive . . .

BACKGROUND:  I am a long time Mac user.  Periodically I reformat the HD on my iMac and reinstall Mac OS X and application software.  This is time consuming but I am retired and have plenty of time to do this.  NOW:  I am planning on purchasing a new MacMini with the 1 TB Fusion Drive.  The drive has 128 GB of flash storage.  I will have an external HD connected to the MacMini.  The external HD will have a bootable partition where Mac OS X Mountain Lion will be installed so I will be able to reformat the 1TB Fusion Drive on the MacMini when I want to do so.
QUESTION:  How do I reformat the 1 TB Fusion Drive on the just released new MacMini with 128 GB of flash storage?  When I use the Disk Utility will it display the 128 GB flash storage as one partition, and the remainder of the 1 TB HD as the second partition?  What are the steps for reformatting the 128 GB of flash storage and the remainder of the 1 TB HD and then installing Mac OS X Mountain Lion on the 128 GB flash storage?
Please - no responses about why in the world would I want to reformat the fusion drive.  This something I simply want to periodically do.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions . . .
    Jim

Here is an article to read on making a fusion drive.
    http://blog.macsales.com/15617-creating-your-own-fusion-drive
There are a ton of them on the web now.  If you haven't reformatted your HD, don't.  Just follow the instructions and fuse the SSD to the HD partition, format it, then restore from your backup.
Keep this in mind, the recovery partition is normally on the HD and not the SSD.  If you wipe the entire HD during your fuse, you will lose it.

  • How to exclude the Shared folder from TM in Mavericks?

Hi, I have just moved to Mavericks. I discovered that now I cannot exclude the folder "Shared" from my TM back-up. From the TM preferences I can add it to the exclusion list but it seems that it is not taken in account. Even if I use "sudo tmutil addexclusion -p /Users/Shared" I cannot exclude it. Any idea how to force TM to exclude this folder?
    Regards

    Hello there, Bangla.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the process for excluding a particular folder from backup:

  • Server 2008 - how to validate the backup will restore in an emergency

So you have server 2008 backup regularly backing up to a set of rotated USB drives...and the alternate(s) are safely stored (offsite or firesafe)
How do you confirm the backup will restore when you need it?  Guaranteed (if the drive is readable the restore will produce a working server)
There are no ECC codes on the backup that I know of.  I regularly restore random large zip files from the backups (to alternate folders) and check their ZIP check sums (thus the contents are good for that one file), but do I know the restore of the
system files and most importantly the exchange database will work?
I would prefer to have a piece of software validate the drive rather than getting alternate test hardware and trying to restore every 6 months.  How many small companies can buy a test restore server just to validate the backup?
Some concerns...I've read other articles that mention that if de-fragmentation is run on the server drives that the next stored backup may well trash earlier backed up files, does that mean only the most recent backup is valid (and again how to validate
    it)?

Since you are in the SBS forum, we'll assume that you're using SBS 2008 and the built in backup
Unfortunately short of restoring to other hardware...and occasionally restoring files...thats about all the checks you get
So you need something more robust.
My suggestion is StorageCraft  SBS Edition

Provides verification and re-verification...plus lots of other tools

  • How to allocate the processes to various drives?

I am ready to render my movie project come hell or high water!
Could you please descirbe specifically which processes you would allocate to which drives on a quad core PC during the rendering process & what names you would give them.
I have a brand new laptop :- well I was going to paste my PC specs here but this window won't allow cut/copy/paste!!!! yet another totally frustrating aspect to this supposedly layman's software!
So from that little outburst you can tell I am at my wits end...................I have read these forums until my eyes bled. I am now even more confused & have 40 more questions than I started with & realize I'm supposed to be an expert on more things than many people would know about in a life time just to operate this PrE software.
So now to do the long hand typing..............
    Brand new Asus laptop
    win7sp1 up to date 64bit,
IntelR i7-2630QM CPU 2GHz Quad core,
    1.5Tb hard drive,
    16Gb RAM,
3Gb graphocs card running nVidia EForce with 17.3" screen,
    drive C:\ OS 202Gb free of 279Gb,
    (D:) DATA 394gb free,
    (E:) SDATA1 349Gb free,
    (F:) SDATA2 349Gb free,
    1xUSB3 & 3+ x USB2,
Removable expansion HDD 2Tb Seagagte USB2 (fast but actual speed unknown),
Blue Ray RW+- CD/DVD internal burner,
    Paging file 16361Mb on C:\
    Trail version Trend Micro Titanium
Photoshop Premiere Elements 9 up to date.
Not being previously aquainted with more than 1 core, I'm not sure which part of the rendering process to allocate to which drive.
The file will be a big one that's for sure. I didn't know that I was supposed to change the default settings of the PrE or that the photos might be too big. These things are not a problem with WMM.
So the movie is as follows:- (again longhand typing... sigh)
movie files are all .avi   640x480   30f/s   88kbps audio
    all photos are . jpeg mostly 3264 x 2448  180dpi  1.75Mb
all taken with  Cannon PowerShot camera
This project is the first of a set of 3 which will all be17mins long about half & half stills(5sec duration each) & video, with some titles &  lots of transitions.
Since I have the whole PC to use to do the rendering & then burn to file, I'm not concerned about what resources get used. I am sick of making changes & just want to get it done to see if it works & if it will fit on a DVD after. I am burning to file because if more than 1 movie will fit on a disk, that is the way I want to set it up.
So other questions relating to this rendering are:-
Can I do it all in one go or do I have to do it in sections,
Should I make a copy of the movie file first incase it doesn't go well,
I know nothing of how to set the defaults, I just want the movie to play on HD TVs using various DVD players & the odd computer all belonging to friends.
Are there generalised presets for wide screen.
I have previously done a test movie using videos & still photos from this same camera & included titles & transitions & then just burnt it without rendering & it turned out well enough except the picture was a bit too big on the TV.

Will reducing the size of the photos still mean they show the best quality on the TV screen?
I did make a test movie using some of the same vids & stills I was going to use in the proper movies. It was my first use of PrE & I used it just like I had been using WMM, then the shocks started because PrE doesn't operate like WMM!  However I was happy with that test movie except for the slightly larger than ideal picture with an almost square aspect on the TV even though I had selected a widescreen aspect at the time burning.
Steve the 'properties' doesn't say the vids & stills are MPEG AVI files just .avi. There are also stills & video from another camera that I do have to use in the other 2 movies in the set & they are definitely MPEG with crazy codecs because the camera is a Kodak (apple based). There didn't seem to be any problem with PrE using them or the .avi files or the larger still images all in combo in the 1 test movie. I didn't know about rendering at that stage so I just burnt it to disc.
That's why I just decided to quit stuffing around with this first project & get onto finishing it. I will make a copy of the PrE file as it is now then get onto rendering more as a test to see how it will turn out. If it is all wrong or can't finish I will go back to the copy & modify. But knowing which drives to allocate to which parts of the process is all new to me.
I neglected to mention in my firt post that I have to make PAL movies here in Australia.
The new PC's harddrives are all configured NTFS.  My old laptop had an NTFS harddrive. It's the one I used to make the test movie when I first loaded the PrE on it & discovered it wasn't big enough to make movies more than 6-8mins long possibly due to the photos being so big & also because I never rendered it first.
Hunt,  I paid a lot for this new laptop PC because I was under the impression it had 4 separate drives rather than 1 drive with 4 partitions. I certainly never wanted partitions. Now after what you have just said, I'm not sure what I have. I'm sure the specs talk about different drives. It certainly pictures 4 separate drives in the sys inf & the PC is said to be quad core which to my understanding in this country should mean 4 physical drives. Also I think somewhere  I came across the part numbers or registered numbers for each drive although I can't find that place now.
The drives are MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ240AS  DVD/CD-ROM  Does that give you any insight to whether there are 4 HDDs or just 1 HDD partitioned?

  • How to take the Backup of all XI-Design Objects(Repository, Directroty,SLD)

    Deal All,
Actually I am facing problems with XI Server.
we have decided to reinstall the server. So, please tell me how to take the back up for all the scenarios that has been created in that. And also tell me how to take the back up for all the things.
Then how the backups can be used in Newly initialed XI-Sys.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Danab

    Hi,
In your IR and ID , you can export the Objects as TPZ files which can be reimported later.
To expoert, select the SWCV in your IR or the Configuartion Scenario in ID and then Tools --> Export and then specify the directoy in your XI server to which export should be done and then export the same.
Now, they will be available as TPZ files. When you need to reimport, tools --> Import and you can import.
