How to exit published .exe in Captivate 5.5

I have published a .exe of a project in Captivate 5.5 in fullscreen. I want it to loop (which I set up) but also have the ability to escape/exit when done to return to the desktop. I can't figure out the keyboard shortcut to terminate the .exe when running and resorted to ending from the task manager, which screwed up my desktop. Any guidance? Thanks!

There are at least a couple of ways to do this.  If you're using a playbar, open the Skin Editor, Playback Control tab, and select the Close checkbox.  This will add an "X" to the playbar, which the user can use to close the lesson at any time.
Another way would be to add a button to the last slide and create and assign an Advanced Action to it.
The Advanced Action would look like this:
Then add a button on the last slide that calls that advanced action, like this:
Hope this helps.

  • Published .exe file - Captivate 5

We recently upgraded from Captivate 3to Captivate 5, with Captivate 3 we published all of our projects as .exe files and never experienced a problem.  However, I just created a project in Captivate 5, published it as a .exe file (tried with both Flash Player 9 and Flash Player 10) and users cannot access the file.  Those of us that have the Captivate 5 application installed on our PCs can open the .exe file without a problem.  However, the users that do not have the Captivate 5 application cannot open it.  All of us have Flash Player 10 installed, therefore, I don't believe it's a problem with the Flash Player.  The error message that they are getting states, "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
My project information is as follows:
    Resolution:  800x600
    Slides:  13
    Slides with audio:  0
    Audio quality:  MP3, 96 kbps, 44.100 KHz
    eLearning output:  Acrobat.com
    Display score:  Yes
    Enable Accessibility:  Yes
    Skin:  City Night
    Flash(SWF) size and quality:  Custom
    ActionScript Version:  AS3
I also published it as an .swf file (with html) and they cannot open the .swf (I believe because they don't have a swiff point player), but could open the .html.  However, the .html doesn't work properly with posting quiz results to acrobat.com.
Your help is greatly appreciated, at this point, it's preventing us from using Captivate 5 for anything.

    Hi David,
I don't understand why Adobe Technical support is still working on a solution .... when one has already been developed and WORKED !!! Unless other people are having a slightly different problem with publisheding as .exe file ??
Here is the details of the bug I reported on 16th August 2010:
Feature Request/Bug Report : Bug Report
    Product                    : Captivate
    Product Version            : version 5
    Browser                    : Microsoft Internet Explorer

    Feedback Report            : ******BUG******
Captivate 5 Projects published as .exe will not run on Learners computers where Captivate 5 has NOT been installed. When they try to run the .exe file the following message is received: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". Learners computers are running on Windows XP
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Start Captivate 5
    2. Create project from project template. Note project template was created in Captivate 5
    3. Project created contains 5 slides, 4 slides are recording slides
    4. Save project
    5. publish project as Windows .exe  6. .exe files runs on computer with Captivate installed
    7. send file to learner (with no Captivate installed) and when the try to run it, the error message appears
Results: error message received: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
Expected results: .exe file should run eLearning program created with Captivate 5
Here is the solution (minus the attached file since I can't add files to this forum) I received on 16th August:
We really appreciate you reporting this issue. The issue has been addressed and I am attaching the fix with this email.
Please follow the below steps -
    1. Rename the attached 'FakeFlash.txt' file to 'FakeFlash.Exe'.
    2. Go to "<Adobe Captivate 5 Installation Folder>/ExecutablePublish"
    3. Take a backup of 'FakeFlash.Exe' file.
    4. Replace the 'FakeFlash.Exe' with the one renamed in step 1
    5. Launch Captivate, Open the Project, and publish it to Exe
Let us know if it solved your problem.
    Thanks
    Ravi
I suggest Adobe Technical Support talk to their colleague, Ravi, for the solution instead of re-developing it. And post it on the Adobe site so everyone has access to it.
As much as I enjoy particatpating & helping the Captivate community ... I'm sorry I just can not act as you distributor of bug fixes because Adobe can't get their act straight on this MAJOR problem.

  • How to Reset "Published" Name in Captivate 5

Captivate 5 seems to cling to project title names, and I can't figure out how to reset them. For example, I have a file named Section_OrderEntry.cptx. When I go to File > Publish and the Publish dialog opens, the default Project Title it gives me is: Adding User_demo. I believe the name and the "_demo" extension are a result of the file originally being created and saved when my Captivate was in its 30 trial. I've since purchased the eLearning Suite.
Any ideas on where I can reset the default Project Title? I want it to be the same as the file name. Thanks!

I've seen this behaviour at times as well.  What I usually do to fix it is:
Open the project file in Captivate 5.
Save As a new file name in a different directory on your PC somewhere.
Open the Publish dialog and set the Title to what you want.
Publish to the same target directory as the original file was publishing to.
Save As again, but this time save the file back to the same file name and directory where you started.
Check the Publish dialog Title field now.  Is it what you want this time?

  • How do I publish an exe file?

I am new to Director and I am greatly benefiting from this
forum. I have a Director question that maybe someone can help me
with. It's a ridiculously simple problem but somehow I can't figure
    it out. Here it is:
How do I publish/export an exe from Director? I want to put
the my output movie on a CD-ROM as an exe and, despite trying many
different publish settings, all I get is a shockwave movie.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice or guidance. Thanks

    "It's a lousy decision" -- I couldn't agree more. I'm a
longtime Director developer (since MacroMind days) but since my new
employers didn't have a current version, I ordered D11 through our
software purchasing process, which takes a little time. Downloaded
the demo version so I could get started w/my app ... but, no, I
can't create one with the demo version. Very silly decision on
Adobe's part ... what was wrong with a watermark as a solution to
people using the demo instead of buying the product? Taking a hard
look at Adobe AIR as an alternative, and maybe something like
Appcelerator/Titanium or Multidmedia Zinc so users don't have to
deal with AIR runtime install issues. I really hope Adobe's neglect
is not the end for Director.

  • How do you publish as an MP4 in a H.264 format using Captivate 6?

How do you publish as an MP4 in a H.264 format using Captivate 6?

As a temporary workaround, this is my work flow:
I create a 'crosshair' in the exact location, using two line shapes that can be positioned exactly using the Transform accordion.
The motion path end points have a circle that you'll have to drag over the crosshair. Motion paths use the center point of an object, contrary to resizing, moving that is from the upper left corner of the bounding box. I used the described work flow in the first movie here: http://blog.lilybiri.com/reset-effects

  • How can I publish as an exe that will play in Windows 98?

I work in the art department of a documentary series and I have a Dell Iinspiron 3200 running Windows 98 (with Flashplayer 9) that I need to use to run animations that I made on a seperate machine running CS5. How should I publish them so that they can be played on the laptop? When I bring the files over, they are recognized as flash applications (the icon is right) but trying to play them results in two errors: "(directory) file expects a newer version of windows. Upgrade your Windows version" and "(directory) a device attached to the system is not functioning"
I have tried publishing as version 9, but the fies still won't run, and examining the properties of them reveals a file version of 10.1.
How can I get this to work?
    Thanks in advance

PS: Further investigation has brought up the possibility that it may work better if I rewrote it in as2. Apparently as3 may not be able to write back to older versions...can anyone perhaps confirm or refute that before I restart the project?

  • Scrollbar in published exe file

Hello, can anyone tell me, of it is possible to publish a
project to a .exe with a scrollbar?
Because in our company there are some people with 15" screens
and now they don't see the bottom of the full screen *.exe
I hope there is a way to scroll within the published exe
    file.
    kind regards,
    Bill

    Welcome to our community, Bill
First off, there is no way I'm aware of to include a scroll
    bar like that.
Computer screens are just like TV screens. If a person with a
21 Inch monitor views something, it simply appears larger than it
appears on a 15 inch monitor.
What is at play here is something called
Resolution. While for TV screens, the only thing that really
comes into play is the size, with Computer monitors you care about
resolution. Resolution is how finely the divisions occur with the
display units. These are called PixEls, which is a combination of
Picture and Elements. So often, smaller screens use a lower
    resolution, hence the issue.
You may wish to consider Publishing the Captivate as a SWF
and only linking to the SWF. While that would probably impact the
quality of the end user's experience, it should accomplish the
goal. So instead of opening a .EXE, the user would open a .SWF in
    the browser.
Hopefully this was helpful. If not, it was intended to be.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Print final (Certificate) slide in published .exe

    Hi Captivate-Guru's,
I'm looking for a way to provide a print button on my final
slide. This slide contains a certificate (not a widget, just a .jpg
with a variable textfield for the student-name). The button has to
work in a published .exe of this project. I believe java-script
    just doesn't cut it.. :(
Please advise how to accomplish this.
    Thank you!

Hi, everyone out there.  I know that printing a slide seems to be a huge problem for everyone. All I want to do is to allow my end user to print a certificate template that I imported as a powerpoint slide. I've built in the variables and it works fine.
The problem is printing easily without printing the printer icon or playback bar or buttons .... just the certificate landscape on 8 1/2 by 11 paper.  I've tried the widgets that are loaded in Adobe Captivate 4. The print.swf file prints the icons. So does the Printslides.swf. I haven't been able to find any that do the trick.
I'm hoping someone reading this has been able to solve this.  Anyone know a technique that actually works in Captivate 4?

  • How can I publish a project so that the link to embedded flv is not lost?

When publishing an Adobe Captivate 3 project, the embedded flv file does not play.
How can I publish a project so that the link to embedded flv is not lost?

I am not really sure, if I understand you right. But try this:
Don’t place a picture, but draw a box and use the "Fill" command to put a picture into it.
(Don’t click onto the color swatch, but onto the blue link "Fill".)
In this case responsivness should work.

  • How do I embed fonts into Captivate projects?

This question came up in May 2006 but was never really
answered. I'd like to know how to embed fonts into my Captivate
projects so that the output looks the same on all computers. While
the text animations are fine, the Text Caption fields are the ones
that seem to have fonts that go walkies on other computers. I know
you can embed fonts in PDFs. Why not in Captivate (unless I'm
    missing something in 2.0).

First, a tip for the forums: If you use the URL tags, your
post won't require horizontal scrolling - sorry, but I use Firefox
and entering a long URL totally blows my ability to smoothly read
the post ... you can manually add a text link by using the "L" tag
as shown below (I've put spaces in to avoid this being turned into
    another text link)
    [ L = Your Text]
    http://www.yourdomain.com [ /
    L ]
Back to your issue, Charinos. I'm glad you did find the URL,
but that thread and your problem are not even in the same world.
That thread deals with fonts in text-entry boxes (boxes for
end-user text-entry), and you are talking about text-captions, an
    entirely different object.
In fact, if you make changes and save those changes to a
text-caption, then publish the project, the fonts in your text
captions will remain stable and are not dependent on the fonts
installed on the end-viewer's machine. The reason is that when the
SWF is compiled, the text captions are converted to images and so
long as the file is viewed as intended in the HTML document - at
the proper size - the stretching you describe cannot take place.
I'm not saying you are seeing things, but if my understandings of
the Captivate machine are correct, what you are saying is happening
    cannot
be happening. Something else is going on, like a failure to
save changes, use of non-conforming text-caption boxes with a
resultant loss of margins, or something.
Sorry I'm not more help. I can't duplicate what you are
seeing but I hope someone else can help you out - I may still be
    misunderstanding your issue.

  • How to import Articulate quiz into Captivate

I am trying to import an Articulate Quiz, in to Captivate 5 , it imports and I have followed the instructions found here
    http://daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/2010/06/21/publishing-articulate-to-captivate/
However my quiz does not play past the first screen, are there any hard and fast rules or a guide for hw to do this correctly?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
One possible option (I haven't tried this myself) woud be to try and load the Articulate Quiz into your Adobe Captivate 5 project using the free Web Page Widget created by Jim Leichliter.
You can learn more about this Widget by clicking on the link I have included below.

  • CP File Cannot Publish EXE Locally

    Hello,
I'm working with a large (70 slide) presentation in Captivate 3 and it no longer allows me to publish it as a standalone Windows executable.  The "select Flash version" select and "Publish" button are greyed out.  Publishing to SWF works fine, and I have the latest Flash Player installed.  Stranger still, I CAN publish an EXE if I use the FTP option.  So I've been exporting an exe to my FTP server, then downloading it back onto my computer.
It is specifically a problem with this CP file; I can publish other projects without issue.  If I copy all my slides and paste them into a new project, it resolves the problem but I lose all of my navigation data (all buttons lose their "jump to" target and revert to "continue", keyboard shortcuts for 508 compliance are lost).
The workaround of publishing to FTP will let me keep my deadline, but I'd rather not leave the project file in this broken state.  Any way to restore desktop exe publishing without redoing all my navigation?

Nevermind, I wrote my own launcher in Flash.  At least this way it doesn't take forever to load from CD, and I don't have to re-publish the exe and app files every time.
It still would be nice if the publishing options within Captivate were a little more robust (read: not terrible).

  • Published .avi from Captivate is shorter in Adobe Media Encoder

I published 8 slides from Captivate 4 to .avi video format.  When I play the .avi in Windows Media Player, it works great.  I'm using Adobe Media Encoder to convert it to .flv file to use in my Flash project.  When I import the .avi to AME, it's shorter and the audio on the last slide is cut off.  I tried inserting a duplicate slide with silent audio in Captivate to extend the duration by 10 seconds.  Still, the .avi is 2:57 in length and when I import it to AME it's 2:47.  It makes no difference if I extend the last silent slide to even 25 seconds.
Is this an issue with AME or with Captivate 4?  How do I fix it?
    Thank you!

Here's the info I can provide at this time:
Yes, it seems that this only affects .avi files published from Captivate.  Other .avi files reflect the correct length when imported to AME.
    Using AME CS4 4.2.0.006.
    Using Captivate CS4 4.0.0.1596.
Yes, it happens with every .avi file published from Captivate.  I've tried the following and still the last slide (#8) was cut off at the end including its audio:
extended last slide (#8) for more than a minute after the audio stops
extended the audio on the last slide (#8) by inserting silence for additional 30 seconds
added another slide (#9) after the last slide
added another slide (#9) after the last slide with 30 seconds of silent audio
I did find a temporary solution, however.  I added a transparent object (rectangle) a few seconds after the audio ended on slide 8 and when I published to .avi, Captivate recognized the added object and published the video to include the added animation.
You may download a zipped file containing the Captivate project and the published .avi from here:

    Thank you,
    Artur

  • How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?

How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?
it drives me nuts having to emove all the other websites when I want to upload one.
    Sparrow

For iWeb, I like to do only one site per domain file.  I move domain files out of the Application Support folder and place them inside project or client folders, or in DropBox. Once you duplicate a domain file and begin customizing it, it will load and behave as a separate project/site.
I publish each iWeb domain/project direct to a server via FTP. Sometime I publish to a folder, then upload via FTP manually.
iWeb is a remarkable tool, especially when you work from scratch with blank tamplates
