How to Export a slideshow to movie

I am having great difficulty trying to create a DVD of my slideshow using Roxio Toast 11. It calls for me to export the slideshow to a video format. When I try to export using the iPhoto menu, it does not matter which definition I use, the progress window comes up with a small black screen and the program does absolutely nothing.
Here is Roxio answer:
Can you please confirm if you created the slideshow in Iphoto? If that's the case, The iPhoto slideshow must first be exported from iPhoto as a video. This is done by clicking the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto slideshow window. (I'm assuming your slide show was created after clicking New Slideshow in the iPhoto File menu). Choose the Large preset in the Export window to save the slide show as a movie and then add that movie to the Toast Video window to make your DVD.
Where am I going wrong
George H. Grant

One more query though... I specified widescreen when I created the slide show because I want to show it on a 16:9 ratio LCD but when I exported as a .mov it played on my Cinema display in 4:3. No aspect ratio options offered in the Export window just 3 frame sizes.
You can export Quicktime slide shows at *any size/aspect ratio* you wish. The trick is *not to use* iPhoto's slide show feature, see my instructions in an older thread.
In the export dialogue enter your preferred size. If you want your images to fill the screen at a ratio of 16/9 you will need to crop them all accordingly, otherwise you'll get black bars.

  • How to play a slideshow (with movies) from Iphoto to Apple TV second gen

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to play a slideshow with movies, that I normally play perfect with Iphoto (I even can add music)to let it stream to the Apple tv second gen?
So I have some movies on Imac from a holiday in Egypt and Iphoto alows me let it play as a movie.
How can I setup my Apple TV so that it is the same on my Apple TV? So with nice fade ins and outs?
    Thanks

Ok Thank you, but I have one more question.
The Iphoto library is loaded with different movies and Photos. They are sorted by date.
Is there a possibily to make folders in Iphoto. So that I have on folder called for example "vacation Egypt" and put all the movies in this folder within Iphoto?
And then when I select this map it will make a slideshow from all this movies with music? Just like in Iphoto?

  • How to export iPhoto slideshow to quicktime and then view on video iPod?

How do you export a slideshow to a Quicktime movie (from iPhoto) so that the resulting Quicktime movie is then viewable on an iPod?
I've exported slideshows (with transitions, specified Ken Burns effects, music, etc.) to Quicktime movies to try to view these on my iPod. I don't want to view my photo albums since they don't have of the effects that the slideshow has. There is an option to save the slideshow in a small file size that is presumably viewable on an ipod. About 80% of the time, however, the Quicktime movies are then NOT viewable on my iPod. My iPod just freezes when I try to start the movie.
Here are the steps I use to export
    1. From iPHoto Select the slideshow / File / Export / select small movie
    2. From iTunes / File / Import / select the Quicktime movie that was created from the slideshow
    Background info
    1. Apple G5 purchased in 2003, 2 CPUs, CPU Speed 2 GHz. Memory 2GB. Bus Speed 1 GHZ. CPU TYpe PowerPC 970 (2.2)
    2. iPhoto '08 version 7.1.1 (354)
    3. Video iPod purchased in May 2006. (60 GB). Uses iPod software version 1.2.3 (most current version for this iPod)
    4. Quicktime Player version 7.3.0 Player Version 7.3 (7.3)
I've tried synchronizing my iTunes with the Quicktime movie to a new iPod and that doesn't work either. I've tried many different approaches but none of these ever work. I'd really appreciate any thoughts or ideas you might have. Thank you!

You probably will need a 3rd party application to convert the . mov QT file that iPhoto creates into a format for the iPod. Some are VisualHub, ViddyUp, and iSquint. You can find them at VersionTracker.com.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to export a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5 without losing quality

    Hi
Would appreciate comments from the forum on how to best export a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5 without losing quality. I tried the highest quality option on the export menu but still noticed a signficant degradation in the quality of the slideshow in iPHoto vs the exported file.
I read some of the posts on earlier versions of iPhoto were the "Custom Export" could be used but understand this functionality has been removed from the latest version (iPhoto 9.5).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In iPhoto, when you play a slideshow it's showing you the actual photos.
After export , you're watching a movie made from these images. The process of exporting to a movie necessarily involves compression. Even HD export is still about 2 MP range. If you're shooting 6, 10, 12 or more MP images there is an inevitable loss of data. The enormous stills from your camera are being squeezed down into HDTV quality. It's even worse if you try export for a DVD. TV avoids this by not shooting such high quality images.
So, what you can try is use another app and one that has different algorithms for this process. Frankly, it'll be a process of trial and error to find the one that works best for your images.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold. It's worth a try, though it only has the same export options as iPhoto now. Older versions had more.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • How to export a iTunes HD movie file?

I was wondering if it's possible to export a full res HD Quicktime movie as an HD iTunes movie? I know how to export a Quicktime movie to an iTunes movie but don't see an option to export an HD iTunes movie (the 720p quality like when you purchase an HD movie from the iTunes store). I want to be able to watch my 1080p work on Apple TV in the best quality. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

I want to be able to watch my 1080p work on Apple TV in the best quality.
The TV device is limited to max of 720p playback. While the TV1 did have an option to scale content for output as 1080i or 1080p, this was discontinued with the TV2 since 1080p native HDTVs will automatically rescale the negotiated input as/if needed for proper viewing. To maintain compatibility with the TV1 device, Apple presets will export 720p content only if the source file is larger than or equal to these dimensions and the frame rate is 25 fps or less. They will not allow you upscale smaller dimension files. Thus, your 1080p source files will be exported as either 720p24 or 540p30 files depending on the source frame rate. If you have an TV2 device and wish to ensure a 720p30 output, then use a free third-party app like MPEG Streamclip or HandBrake. Both have TV2 specific conversion options.

  • How to export a multitrack quicktime mov?

    Hello,
So I'm trying to export a multitrack quicktime movie, so that my clients on the other end can have all 6 audio tracks laid out on their end. I've tried assigning roles to each track, and exporting using the option (export as multitrack quicktime movie), but it always ends up collapsing all audio tracks into one single track.
Has anyone found a more reliable workaround for this?
    Specs. FCPX 10.1.4, OSX 10.10.2

You have to set how you want the roles to be exported in the settings tab.
Use the "Add Audio Track" button to create as many audio tracks as you need, and use the popups to switch the roles on or off, as desired, per track.
    For example:

I figured it out. You need to "share" the slideshow to iDVD in order to export it in a widescreen format.

  • How to export cycle area with movie?

I'm working on a film scoring project with some friends.
It's like an hour long thing, but I've got a really neat section that i've written and synced up to the video and I've got my cycle area set to that section.
Is it possible to bounce the cyle area with video?
I tried looking in the documentation but either I'm really missing something or the "working with video" section is laughably short and devoid of details.
Seems like the kinda feature that would be there, but it's not obvious to me how to access it.

    I'm an idiot.
It does this for you by default if you leave the cycle mode activated when you select "export audio to movie"

  • How to export region code 2 movie to other TV's

I have programmed the iMac for region 2 and it plays the DVD. How do I get the movie out to play on another TV. How do you get video out of the iMac that is HDMI or what ever compatible. This is a special movie (restored "The Red Shoes") which is only available in the UK.
    Thanks, Jim Easton

If the TV is an HDTV and has an HDMI connector, you can convert the video output of your iMac to HDMI. The adapter you need depends on your iMac model, which is not stated in your post in your profile. 2008 model Intel iMacs and earlier have a Mini-DVI port. 2009 model iMacs (both early and late) have a Mini DisplayPort. There are adapters that go from either video output to HDMI, available at Amazon.com and elsewhere.
The two displays will together will show an extended Desktop, as represented in System Preferences Displays pane Arrangement tab. The diagram on that preferences pane shows how the two screens are arranged relative to each other (you can move them around). The edge where the touch is where you can move your mouse cursor from one screen to the other.
To play any video, whether is using DVD player, QuickTime Player, iTunes, or other, open a window that shows the video. Use your mouse to drag the video window from the iMac's screen to the HDTV's screen. Then give the +full screen+ command from the menu bar or keyboard (usually Command-F). The video should take over the entire screen. Note: In a few apps, the screen that gets the +full screen+ is set in the app's preferences.

  • How to export SMOOTH slideshows ?

    Hi,
I am running the latest version of Aperture 3.
When creating slideshow with the "Album" theme, the result is not very smooth. During transition for example, when a picture moves from right to left, it is not smooth - not nice to watch which is basically a shma efor a slideshow !
I want to get 1920 x 1080 HD video ... But at the moment, it is not satisfactory.
The preview on screen is also not very smooth, which I can understand because realtime processing.
    I am using an Imac 27 - I7 - 8GB of RAM ...
Do you have any suggestions ?
    Regards

Check to ensure that the image sizes you are creating are equal to the pixel dimensions of the largest display that you intend to use.

  • Does anyone know how to export a slideshow to a dvd?

I am trying to burn a slideshow in iphoto to a dvd and cannot get it to work...if anyone has any advice I would love to hear it please! Thanks!

Also, do you have iDVD?  I think most versions of iPhoto should link directly to iDVD?
You could use Audacity (a free multi track audio editor) to create a custom soundtrack.

  • Help Please: how can I burn a dvd movie without a theme?

I know this has been asked before. But none of the previous answers/suggestions seem to work. I've tried to use the "looping" method from the help menu, I still get a theme, now at the end of my video "package". And it doesn't "loop". I've tried to take a jpeg from photos and cover the theme using the option key, but that doesn't work either. I just want to have the option to be able to "turn off" the themes and create a clean video dvd for people who don't have time to choose on-screen buttons. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Hey maybe you can help me. I was trying to figure out how to burn an iPhoto slideshow on iDVD, but don't want to use the lame Apple themes. I went to the link you pointed out about one-step iDVD's, but the problem is you have to have a movie, and iPhoto won't let me export my slideshow while keeping the music in sync. Insane.
So two questions... do you know how to export a slideshow to .M4V or .MOV without losing the sync between all the pictures and the music? I've got 88 slides all set to specific timing and Ken Burns effect, but every time I do an export the music becomes disconnected from the pictures and goes out of sync.
I did do an export to iDVD and it seemed to stay in sync but I can't figure out how to get rid of the ridiculous theme that iDVD is automatically using. I don't want a theme at all.
When is someone at Apple going to figure out that most people just want a plain wrapper?
Anyway, do you know any answers to my problems? Thanks. I've lost 4 slideshows this week as iPhoto keeps losing all the slide settings.

  • Loop slideshow or movie clips

does anyone know how to loop the slideshows and movie clips on IMOVIE 6 just like u do on IDVD??

    Ranjandeep,
    You can't in iMovie.
But if you play your finished movie back with QuickTime you can.
Just output your movie using Share>QuickTime>Full Quality DV.
Then play the movie with QuickTime Player and choose View>Loop.
