How to export HDV interlaced project as progressive?

Hello guys,
I have finished my video. It is sitting on my interlaced timeline waiting for export.
The video was shot and edited in HDV 1440 x 1080 i 60. Timeline settings are the same as video settings.
If I export it using Quick Time movie, I will end up with HDV 1440 x 1080 i 60 file with .mov file.
But how can I obtain HDV 1440 x 1080 30 progressive .mov file?

When you Export to QuickTime Movie, you don't have to use Current Settings. You can export to anything, including HDV 1080p30. However, this will merely set the field dominance of the exported movie to "None".
To get a progressive result you'll need to de-interlace your sequence with the "De-Interlace" filter. To avoid filtering every clip in your sequence, Nest your sequence first, then apply the filter to the nested sequence. Option-double-click the nested sequence to load it in the Viewer, then access the Filter tab and try the different de-interlacing options. Flicker Filter (max) gives the smoothest (but a slightly softer) result.
Finally, Export to QuickTime Movie, choosing a 1440x1080p30 preset. ProRes and HDV are your options here. However, only go back to HDV if you're:
a) Exporting back to HDV tape
b) Producing an HD-DVD disc with DVD Studio Pro
c) Needing to keep a relatively small file for archiving purposes
d) Not applying many effects or colour correction filters
If you're going to recompress or treat your sequence further, you'll probably want to export to ProRes 422 as an intermediate format. You'll probably also want to look at the Render settings under Sequence Settings and set the render codec to ProRes 422 for the same reason.
HDV native editing is great for most purposes. However, if you're colour correcting or using heavy effects (like a De-Interlace on every frame!) you can avoid recompression artifacts by rendering and exporting in ProRes.
If you really want the progressive look, try to shoot progressive in the first place. The Canon HV40 will do a great job if you're on a tight budget.

  • Best (PAL) workflow to convert HDV interlaced to DV progressive?

Question - What is the best (PAL) workflow to convert HDV interlaced to DV progressive?
Software: Pr, En and Ae - all CS4.
My Camera: (Sony Z1) shoots HDV 1080i.
When capturing and editing, I keep everything HDV and interlaced.
    Premiere Pro:
    Capture HDV - mpeg 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
    Sequence - 1440 x 1080 (1.3333) HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Upper Field First - (HDV 1080i25 Preset)
Once edit is complete, I dynamically link sequences into Encore.
Question - Should I dynamically link to Encore or export sequence from Pro?
If you aren't a fan of dynamically linking the sequences and believe exporting the sequences from Premiere Pro is the way to go, please advise of best export settings.  I assume during the export (from Pr) is when the converting from HDV interlaced to DV progressive takes place?
At present, I dynamically link the sequences into Encore.  This means Encore handles the conversion to DV progressive.
Question - What are the best (Encore) transcode settings to transcode HDV 1080i25 to DV progressive widescreen?
I've tried numerous workflows but as yet, I've not been 100% happy with any of them.
I'm finding it quite a challenge to take HDV 1080i and produce a good looking DVD i.e minimal artifacts and no interlaced jaggies.
I used to downconvert to DV in-camera during the capture process, but I'm finding I'm getting much better results by editing in HDV and downconverting during post.  This is what my post is really all about i.e. finding the best workflow to do this.
I would be very keen to hear of how others are shooting and editing in HDV to then produce best/high quality DVDs.
    Thanks for reading

    Hi DaveMD,
Thank you so much for your Q&A post. It is so helpfull for me. I will test it right now. Unfortunatly for you, I reply your post with no answer, just a feedback..Sorry
    Nevertheless, my details are :
Software: Pr, En and Ae - all CS4.
My Camera: (Sony FX-1000) shoots HDV 1080i.
    Premiere Pro:
    Capture HDV - mpeg 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
    Sequence - 1440 x 1080 (1.3333) HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Upper Field First - (HDV 1080i25 Preset)
I have exported the media in DVD MPG (.m2v) from Premiere and Build the final DVD from that .m2v into Encore.
I have to say that I am not very happy with the final result when I convert into PAL Widescreen.
I can see little artefacts, flikers and jaggies...
    - Do you think that this "double" DVD MPG export could lower the quality?
    - Could it be the FullHD screen (1080x1920) on which I display the final result (PAL 720x572) that interprates the video?
Thank you for your lights !

  • IMovie 09: How to export one single project

When I export as an mp4 or m4v, it actually exports ALL my projects. While viewing, if I click on the back button, it will switch to another video project. Only in QT can I export one at a time. I want to distribute only the one project not my whole repertoire. How do I do this?

    Here's what I would do....
    1) Drag all 25 clips to one sequence (5-10 seconds)
    2) Right click on each clip, one at a time, and choose Nest (2-3 minutes)
    3) Double-click on the first clip, which will open it's nested sequence on the timeline. Go to File>Export, then choose all your export settings and file-save location. Now click on Queue to start Adobe Media Encoder. After beginnig the export of the first clip, the export settings will remain the same for any clips you export after it, until you change the export settings again.
    4) Repeat Step 3 for each remaining clip, excepting that you will not need to do export settings and file-save location again.
Total time: 15-20 minutes. Rendering time will vary.

  • How to export all the projects at one time

I got about 20 projects and content about 7000 pics. I don't want to just export project each time, and I would like to just export all of them at one time, is it possible?
I don't know where and how to change the name of the master files, and how to organize them properly. Such as I dragged pics from one project to another album, but if I try to delete the pic in the project, it warns me I will delete the master file as well. In the end, I have so many unwanted pic in the project and I can't delete them. Please help with the organizing ...

Let's start from the whole story. I got too many photos and too many project which taken too much spaces in my computer. So I want to delete those not too good ones and only keep a few in my laptop. On the other hand, some of those not too good ones I want to keep as well. So I use time machine to back up them, but it seems time machine only keep them for about 3 months. In that case, if I delete them, I don't think I would be able to find them after 3 months time.
I am thinking about exporting them to an external hard drive as an extra backup.
Now, another part of the story, I was exploring Aperture, setting up different projects, album and dragging the pics around, then everything becomes a mess. I notice that if I drag a photo from project A to B, then the photo will only appear in B but disappeared in A. But if I drag photo from Project C to album D, both of them would have the pic, delete the pic either in the project or the album, it will warn me that I will delete the master file... I don't know how come.
Therefore, puzzled by where and how they store the master file and how they referenced it, I am here.

  • How to export a flash project with a changing frame rate to a video

I have a Flash project that is a series of roughly 1000 images.  The result of the images is a simple animation, and there is music imported on a separate layer.
There are moments in the music that I wanted to line up with certain frame changes, and there are sections of the music that I wanted to match up with a faster (double-time) frame rate.
I used this code in several places in the a code layer:
    stage.frameRate = x;
The result is exactly what I want in SWF -- the animation speeds up and slows down at the exact right moments to match up with the music track, but it seems like it's just not possible to export this variable frame rate project to a video file?
According to the accepted answer on this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4019538, it seems that:
The export function in Flash Pro doesn't transcribe *frames*, rather it plays the Flash animation and records it like a camcorder
If that's true, then I would think there is a way to record a variable frame rate project into a video -- does anybody know if this is possible?

That or Premiere would both get the job done. After Effects might be more desirable as it has a feature called Time Remapping (right-click on the video layer, Time->Enable Time Remapping). You can add keyframes to any point in a video and then drag them around to speed up or slow down the video. That'll allow for very precise tweaks.
Finally all I'd suggest is when you jump into your next project, make a quick dummy test project to see if the software you're using is easily capable of producing what you want. It'll solve the headache of completing the project only to land where you are now. Now you know Flash won't play nicely with scripts and Export Movie. If your desired end result was always a video I'd probably use video editing software to make the video. There's some free stuff out there if you really look, but no, it won't be as nice as After Effects or Premiere by any stretch. Although when you see how amazing After Effects is, you'll probably want to buy it .

  • How to export images with Project Name to be visable by Photo Mechanic.

    Hello all,
I am trying to create another complete set of my images, that can be edited by outside programs (Photo Mechanic and/or Lightroom). I am doing this by exporting the images out of a managed library. I want the Aperture "*Project name*" and Rating fields to be passed to Photo Mechanic. And then I want PM to be able to do queries on the Metadata fields containing the Aperture Project Name and Rating. My intention is to use Photo Mechanic to rename the images and relocate the images but still keep track of the Rating and Project Name.
In Aperture, when I add a custom metadata item under IPTC and export the image, that custom metadata item does not show up in PM or Bridge for that matter.
How can I export images and have the Rating and *Project Name* be exported and visible in PM or LR or Bridge?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dick B.

There is not an easy way but Ian Wood's tool might help you out.
Personally I would just use the "subfolder format" drop down options available in all of the export and relocate dialogs to sort them into directories that are based on Aperture project name - easy enough considering those other tools use file system based folders for there organization structure anyway.

  • How to Export HDV for Blu-Ray?

When editing in DV mode, I would export an avi and a wav file, use Tmpgenc to convert the avi to an m2v file, then import the m2v and wav files into Tmpgenc DVD Author 16 to build a menu and burn a DVD. How do I burn a Blu-Ray disc after editing HDV? What are the steps? (I have a Blu-Ray burner and Blu-Ray discs.) I downloaded Tmpgenc Authoring Works 4 Trial, but it wouldn't recognize an m2v file that I made using Adobe Encoder. I can't use Encore because something screwed up upon installation and now it refuses to install it again. All I get are error messages.

Yes, fixing an installation is a pain but it will help you in the long run.  You're asking for an aspirin to take away the pain of a broken leg.  Fix the leg.
My thought would be that even if you try to work a blu-ray with some other program, your system problems will cause it to have the same problem.
Try a simple uninstall of Adobe products, get and run the CS4 clean script, run whatever disk checking program you have on the system, do whatever maintainence is appropriate and then reinstall the Adobe apps, run the updaters and hopefully you'll be good to go.
It's a pain, but it will likely be worth it.

  • How to export a 24fps project

I'm exporting a 24fps timeline sequence, in FCP 4.5, do I have to convert this in cinema tools to 23.98 or 29.97 before I can export a quicktime or put to tape?
Also if the timeline is anamorphic how do I keep an anamorphic setting in a quicktime movie format?
    Thanks

I edit in 24FPS DV-50 all the time. I mostly use the Desktop Cinema on a color corrected LCD for editing. When I need to see the footage on a consumer tube TV, I use a DV camcorder via Firewire as the playback device.
Final Cut Pro (or perhaps my camcorder) adds the Pulldown to 29.97FPS on the fly automatically. This means I rarely need to convert the footage at all. With my camcorder, JVC GR-HD1, the DV-50 signal is also instantly down-converted to DV-25 on the fly for the camcorder. That way, I can keep source footage in DV-50 in case I need to do advanced color correction, but still use consumer video devices for playback and mastering.
I even leave the footage as 24FPS when creating MPEG2's for DVD since all DVD Players can add pulldown on the fly and you get a much higher quality image when the footage is paused in 24FPS.
There are a few times when using a sequence in 29.97FPS is slightly better. When you do a lot of dissolves, consider doing them in a 29.97FPS sequence since 24FPS footage will look alot more strobic since in 29.97FPS the sequence is actually field rendering dissolves at 60 fields per second. That's nearly 3x as smooth as a 24FPS dissolve. The difference is quite noticable.
To convert a 24FPS sequence to 29.97FPS, just export the 24FPS as a self-contained movie, import it, then place it into a 29.97fps sequence. You may need to render. I would not recommend exporting directly to a different frame rate because it can cause strange cadence errors and white flashes at cuts which I don't have time to explain here.

I would like to know how I can Change interlaced video to progressive scan video, in FCP.

if you have Final Cut Studio, you can export to Compressor 2 and do your deinterlacing there for higher quality results. it will take much, much longer though.
the settings that have worked best for me are setting the frame controls to "custom" and then:
    resizing: fast
    output: progressive
    deinterlace: best (motion compensated)
    check adaptive details
set anti-alias and details levels to 50
rate conversion: best (high quality motion compensation)
