How to export keywords, CS3 to CS4

I have CS3 on my old computer, under Win XP, and CS4 on my new, under Windows 7 RC. I have about 20,000 photos, all with Bridge keywords, applied in CS3.
The photos are on an external HD. (They're also backed up in at least 3 places.) In my old computer the photos taken in the past 5 years have keywords in Bridge. In my new computer the same photos, on the same drive, have no keywords, though earlier ones do.
I have done all the things I'm supposed to do: trashed my Bridge prefs, deleted the entire cache, rebuilt it by reindexing, exported the keywords from the old computer to the new, exported the cache to individual folders as well as a centralized cache. Nothing works. I'm faced with a long, hard job of re-applying keywords to 10,000 or so files.
Is there anything I can do?
Can anyone tell me why half my photographs have retained their keywords and the other half lost them? I thought keywords were embedded in the metadata, and that the metadata survived transportation from one system to another, and over the web, and so forth. It's dismayingto learn that I spent so much time working out a system for keywords, and applying them, only to find that I've got to do it all again.
I don't think it's anything to do with Windows 7 RC, which seems stable and well-behaved.

>Just to be clear CS4 you see some, but not all keywords, or in CS4 you see no keywords?<
I've made more sense of the problem. It's to do with Olympus Raw files - .orf. I've been shooting in Olympus camera raw since 2004.
My workflow is: import the raw files into Bridge via a card reader; rename them in Bridge as [filename].ORF, apply keywords, edit them in Adobe Camera Raw, save them as [filename].PSD (or sometimes .TIF or .JPG), move the PSDs to a working folder, edit them in Photoshop, and finally move them to a 'Finals' folder.
In Bridge CS3, in my old computer, I can see all keywords for ORF files. I can also see all keywords for the working and final PSDs, TIFs and JPGs.
In Bridge CS4, in my new computer, I cannot see any keywords for ORF files, or for the working and final PSDs, etc.
I can only see keywords for files which started life as TIFs - photos scanned with my negative scanner or flatbed scanner.
This is also true in both Bridge CS3 and Bridge CS4 in my new laptop, which is running XP Pro. I could see the keywords in my old laptop, but not in my new one.
>If you right click on file info in Bridge do you have the keyword listed in keyword box?  Do the same with Windows Explorer and see if keyword is listed in Properties/details.<
'Keyword' isn't listed in Windows Explorer, though everything else under the sun is.
The keywords are listed if I right click in Bridge CS3 on a file in my old computer. And if I click on Advanced, and expand the categories, e.g. XMP or Dublin Core Props, I get a heading 'xap:Keywords (bag container)', and a list of all the keywords attached to the file.
But the same file in CS3 in the laptop, or CS4 in laptop or new computer, has no keywords in Advanced.
I've had a quick look on the web for topics connected with Olympus camera raw/orf/losing keywords, but so far haven't found anything.

    Hi Jerome,
I figured out that a change has to be done to load in the configuration, specifically in the Prepare View Stream component.

  • How to export to CS3

Can anyone tell me if CS3 can open CS4 files?
If not, how do I export to CS3?  I can't find the dialogue to select "save as" an earlier version of FW.

The biggest issue is that CS3 uses the old type engine and CS4 uses
the Adobe type engine. You'll be prompted to update your fonts and
text areas may get repositioned. NO way to be sure unless you try. S
long as you don't save the file with the same name, you won't have to
    worry about any permanent impact.

  • How to delete Photoshop CS3 if CS4 is also installed?

After I installed snow leopard I was cleaning up my files & applications. I have Photoshop CS3 installed on my iMac along with CS4 which I installed 2 months ago. Since I have no need for CS3 any longer I went to uninstall it and cant located the uninstaller in the Adobe Installer folder. The only option is for CS4.
I know I had both options avail as I saw them in the folder 3 weeks ago but just didn't have time to do it then.
I have Googled a solution and cant seem to locate one?

  • How to Export keyword hierachy to flickr

I use a keyword hierarchy to tag my photo.
    For instance
    Australia :: NSW :: Sydney
In that way, I tag my picture from Sydney only with the keyword Sydney but if I look for pictures from Australia, I still get the one tagued with sydney in the search result.
Is it possible to export the full hierarchy of keyword (Sydney would be translated into Australia, NSW, Sydney) to flickr without adding some plugin to Aperture

    Short  answer is no.
The apparent keyword hierarchy in Aperture doesn't exist outside of Aperture. While you can search in Aperture for Australia and get the images tagged Sydney in reality only the keyword Sydney is applied to the image and only that keyword will show up on export.
If you want to do what you wrote you would need to tag the image with the entire hierarchy yourself.
This has  been the case since Aperture 1 and has been complained about many times but it doesn't appear that Apple will be changing keywording any time soon.

  • I have installed CS5..  How do I uninstall CS3 and CS4?

I have succesfully installed CS5. Do I simply drag previous versions from my App folder or do I need an UNinstal program?

Hi 463739, <br />Sorry you are having problems.
If they are general problems with a computer probably the best we can do is comment briefly and suggest where else you may get help.
*You seem to be posting from a Windows XP computer is that correct ?
    * Is that the machine you have problems with ?
*What exactly do you mean by no desktop ? <br />( I wonder if Windows Explorer is failing )
*Try starting your computer in Windows Safe Mode.<br /> See http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx
If you suspect Malware the following is the standard advice. Note it is strongly suggested you use multiple scanning tools.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]

    * [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ AdwCleaner: (for adware)]
    * [http://www.kaspersky.com/security-scan Kaspersky Free security scan]
You need to use multiple and up-to-date tools as they will not all pick up the same things.
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good FREE permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Exporting site info from CS3 to CS4

How do I export my "remote info" under "manage sites" from CS3 to CS4? I have about 30 sites under "manage sites" and would hate to have to dig up all the passwords after the upgrade. I used the "export" button in CS3, but it didn't bring in the remote info.

    1.  In CS3, open Site Manager
    2.  Select the sites you want to Export
    3.  Click Export and select a KNOWN location into which to write the *.ste files
    4.  Open CS4.
    5.  Open Site Manager
    6.  Click IMPORT, browse to and select the site files you just exported and click OK.
Such fundamental questions as this are always answered in DW's F1 Help.  You'd have been done an hour ago if you had looked there.

  • How do I edit image viewer slideshow created in CS3, in CS4?

I apologize for posting this twice...once in a previous post and once here. The reason being...the other post was old (2008) and I'm afraid it might get overlooked. So I thought I'd create a new discussion.
I created a bunch  of slideshows in CS3 using Insert - Media - Image Viewer. I was looking  for an easy way for my client to update the site themselves. Even  though it creates a Flash element, it is easy for them to go in and  switch out the images. All they do is click on the slideshow box, hit  Window - Tag Inspector and click on the little folder at the side of the  Image URLs' line. Nothing could be simpler. Well...I went in to see my  client to show her how to do this but she has CS4. When I tried to do  the same thing, nothing looked the same. The tag inspector did not have  the same elements in it at all. Does this mean she cannot edit the  slideshows I have created? Ugh...
If anyone can help  with a work around to this...I'd be very grateful!
    Thanks.
    Pam

Thanks for your reply via e-mail David. I tried to reply but it's a no reply address so I'm posting here:
Do you happen to know if my client who has CS4 would be able to open the slideshows I created in CS3 using the method mentioned here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Bridge/3.0/WSCF044571-2772-4d28-9EBD-2C9F46AF008A.html
Not having CS4, I can't even play around with it to see. Or will the slideshows have to be recreated in CS4? Has my work in CS3 over the months gone to waste in other words?
Alternatively, would it be better for us both to purchase a $29 Dreamweaver extension such as the one below, so we could both access the slideshow from CS3 and CS4 at the same time?
    http://www.dwuser.com/flashslideshow/v3/
I need to keep building the new site using the slideshows while she maintains the old site (no slideshows) until we upload the new site this summer. I don't want to continue building slideshows she cannot access.
Thanks a lot for your help!

  • How do I export a SWF from CS4 and make it viewable for clients?

I'm currently using Indesign CS4 and just learned how to export an animated file as a SWF file.  Once exported I have both a SWF file and a HTML file, however when I send either file to a client they don't open.  How to I format the file for customer viewing?
    Thank you

Thank you so much that worked.  Is there a more professional way to send a client a link instead of two files?  I can just see the confusion from it.  Thank
    you again.

  • Exporting h.264 with CS4 vs CS3

Maybe I'm just dumb and this is an easy question....I'm not sure, but here goes:
I had a project in Premiere Pro CS3, a music video. I'm used to exporting videos as quicktime with an h.264 codec for online streaming from CS3, and they always looked great. A lot of websites cap video uploads to 500MB or a gig, so it was a perfect way to get a high quality video on the net. The 3 minute music video I was working on became a great looking 450MB h.264 movie.
With CS4 and the adobe media encoder, things are a bit different. I export as a quicktime movie with the h.264 codec, at the same settings (100% quality) but it looks awful. The same music video was around 80MB and didn't look anywhere near the quality of same video exported from CS3. I've tried a number of options and presets, and havn't been able to get the same quality or size file.
I even checked both files in G-Spot codec reader (great tool) and they were the exact same AVC1-h.264 codec.
What is happening here? Is the codec somehow used differently in CS4 than in CS3? Is there something I'm not doing to get a high quality h.264 movie out of CS4?
    Thanks,
    Peter

The bitrate of your output movie depends on your Export Settings. At the bottom of the Preset list is "Edit Export Settings". There you can adjust all the settings just like CS3.

  • How do I repair export settings in PS CS4 and import settings in DW CS4?

I've just transferred from Windows XP to Windows 7 Home Premium. My export files from Photoshop CS4 in Save for Web and Devices are hidden and when I click on Save, it saves back into the open file in Photoshop. The image cannot be found in the DW web images folder as in the past. I was able to tell Photoshop how to save the image in the past (ie image only, not html) but that page no longer appears.
Can anyone tell me where that hidden folder can be found?
Thanks so much for a reply.

Yes, I am the administrator and only person on this computer. The missing page is the "Save Optimized as.." window that allowed me to add the settings into specific files for DW. like Format, Settings, Slices and where to save. Is this a hidden file? if so, how do I get it back.
The oddest thing happened yesterday: I wanted to add Meta info for a pattern I was saving for DW, I went to file information, and while I was typing, suddenly the form changed to a totally odd Patient Information sheet and it would not let me get back into my own PS pattern. Is this something new? I have never added a Patient form, anyway, how did it get into PS? Any clues on this?

  • How to export height quality gif frm Flash CS3?

    Hi,
When i export a .GIF movie from Flash CS3 , the movie quality is not good, here is some dot dots in the gif movie.
How to export height quality gif ? . Kindly explain pls as soon possible...
    Thanks & Regards
    Mohan

GIF is a color restricted format with on/off support for transparency. There's really no settings you can tweak to output a better GIF. You have a drop-down during GIF sequence export to allow transparency, select the amount of colors (up to 256) and you can choose dither to save a little filespace. The only 2 things in there that really matter are dither and amount of colors used to export.
If your content is very similar (e.g. not a lot of complex gradients/shadows/etc) and is limited in color use turning down the amount of colors used and dithering is your only option.
Make sure you're exporting the GIF via "Publish Settings" so you get a single animated GIF and not file->export->movie because this creates a separate sequence of GIF images for each frame.

  • How to export timeline sequence to .vob in premiere cs4?

    Hi All,
I am new to premiere cs4,
earlier i used premire 6.5 for video editing.
in premiere 6.5 for exporting video i had used procoder 2.0
after procoder instalation it comes as plug in premiere 6.5 by using procoder i can export timeline as my desired video format.
but now this procoder is not working in premiere cs4
after i installed procoder it is not showing in premiere cs4.
i tried export option in premiere cs4 but it has no .vob option for export
now how can i export timeline sequence as .vob file and
how can i work with procoder in premiere cs4? is there any chance to install procoder in premiere cs4?
    Thanks,
    Murali.

I agree with John T. Normally, the creation of a VOB (Video Object) container is done in an authoring app., like Adobe Encore, which he mentioned. Up through Premiere Pro 2.0, there were limited authoring capabilities, built in. However, with PrPro CS 3, those were removed, and all authoring functions were provided with Encore, which has shipped with PrPro, ever since.
Now, the VOB is just a container. It will have mostly the MPEG-2 DVD AV file, which can span several VOB's, which are only ~1GB in size. The first VOB might also contain the DVD Menus, and navigation instructions, all of which can only be ~ 1GB. If those elements are less, then the first part of the MPEG-2 DVD AV file will be in there also.
While I do not know one, there are probably utilities available, that can wrap an MPEG-2 DVD AV file into a VOB. Still, you have Adobe Encore, and it can do that, plus a whole lot more, so just finding a program to wrap the MPEG is likely a waste of time, unless you have other, very specific needs.
To utilize Encore, you have basically three ways (as of PrPro CS 3 and up) to accomplish that:
You can use ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link) to Import your Sequences/Timelines directly to Encore.
You can Export a DV AVI file, then Import that into Encore.
You can Export an MPEG-2 DVD file, then Import that into Encore.
Good luck, and if you do have some other, specific needs for the VOB container, let us know, as someone might have suggestions for that.
    Hunt
PS - If you do go the Encore route, and are not familiar with that program, I strongly recommend the very good, and very active Adobe Encore Forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/encore/encore_general
