How to export large .jpeg in indesign

I'm trying to export a large jpg file from indesign for a commercial printer (Large format bill board Advertising poster). Getting message indicating that the file is too large and to try using a lower resolution - but this does not deliver required quality. Have tried exporting as PDF then saving in PS as tiff - but again quality not good.

Hi Mike!!!
3000mm x 5000mm high ad board. I¹m not dealing with the printer at all which
is frustrating, this is all through the client. They said no smaller than
50dpi, saved as jpeg or tiff. I managed to send them 100dpi but to me they
look rubbish. Since my early morning panic all seems to be well. Client
happy, which I didn¹t expect, so fingers crossed I have seen the last of
that job!
Sorry after so long I contact you for advice and not just a Œhey¹!
Maybe catch up one day

I don't use the latest InDesign, but in the past ID's options for exporting to PDF did not allow setting how a PDF should be viewed once exported.  However, these settings can be adjusted in Acrobat through Preferences: check out Page Layout and Zoom under Page Display.

  • HELP!  How do I export large jpegs in lightroom 5?

I've always shot jpegs with my camera and edited them in Lightroom.  The last set up photos I took, I decided to shoot in RAW.  I uploaded them to Lightroom 5 and after editing them, exported them to my computer as jpeg files.  100% quality and didn't limit the file size.  They all saved to my computer around 4.5mb.  When I used to edit my large jpegs and export them, they would be around 7mb.  I'm so confused!  Why would these be smaller since the RAW files to begin with are larger?
Is there something I'm missing?  Lets say I want to export all my RAW photos to my computer as jpegs, but want them to be 10mb in size?  Is this possible?

    nfulton wrote:
Do you know why the RAW would save as a 4.0mb jpeg, but if I don't shoot raw and only jpeg (and edit the same in LR), it will save it up to 10 or sometimes larger?  Just curious why this would be.
My advice remains to IGNORE (as in don't pay attention to) the file size of exported JPGs. Any attempt to understand and find meaning in JPG file sizes will drive you to frustration, and is an exercise in chasing your tail. There are too many factors that you cannot control and cannot quantify that go into determining JPG file sizes.
And if that is the case (you don't get more pixels), then why bother shooting RAW?
Because each pixel of a RAW photo contains more information (up to 16 bits ... but most cameras use 12 or 14 bits) than the corresponding pixel of a JPG (8 bits only). With more information in the RAW photo, you can produce more pleasing photos when you edit them.

  • How to print large jpeg image on multiple sheets of paper?

I have aa Photosmart 8250 and I need to print a large jpeg photo of a wiring harness onto multiple sheets of letter size paper for clarity sake. I need the large image printed os say 8 sheets of paper in landscape mode so when you combine the sheets you have a large and accurate image. Can this be done under windows 7 64 bit? I seem to recall under XP with the HP software that you could do this, I need to do this now, under windows 7 64 bit if possible. Thanks in advance.

You can use an alternate driver with the features you want.  Download the Officejet 8500 driver from HP here.  When the installer prompts you to connect the printer select the checkbox for unable to select the device.  After the driver has been installed click Start, Devices and Printers, right click on your Photosmart 8250 and select Printer Properties, Ports and find which port the 8250 is using.  Note this for later.  Next cancel this and click Add a Printer.  Select the same port as you found previously for the Photosmart 8250, Next, then choose HP and the HP Officejet Pro 8500.  Print a test page when you are done to verify the printer is working properly with the new driver.  You can then print to this instance of printer and select Poster Printing in the main page from 2x2 sheets up to 5x5 sheets.

  • How do I export 72ppi jpegs from InDesign without losing quality?

I need to export indesign files that I design to 72ppi for web without losing any quality (or as minimal as possible). Countless times I have tried different methods, but alwasy manage to create a workaround, whether it be good quality, or just readable text. ITs really the small text I have the problem with. I explain in the below video my problem in further detail. But basically, I have tried many things such as pasted from indesign to photoshop, exporting to 300ppi jpeg and resizing in photoshop, exporting to 72ppi jpeg and viewing (not good at all), exporting as PDF, opening in photoshop ticking anti alias and inputting my dimensions... how can I get this to work?? Someone please help.. I have battled this problem for to long and my boss is getting annoyed with it. We need to fix this.
Many people say to export to PDF and then open in photoshop and save as a jpeg from there.. but how can i export a PDF to 72ppi?? Please Adobe fix this issue in future editions of InDesign. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

You have it backwards. You export a PDF, and when you open it in Photoshop, that's when you pick the resolution. Any text in the PDF will likely be vector data, and it will be changed into bitmap data at the resolution you choose. I'll give you an example:
I placed a 300ppi image (5.7MB Photoshop tiff) into an InDesign page with three captions (12pt, 9pt and 6pt). I exported the page as two different PDFs. One was set to High Quality Print (a1) and the other to Smallest File Size (a2). A1 came in at 446KB and a2 came in at 37KB. When opened in Photoshop, I picked 72ppi as the resolution, flattened and saved as an RGB Jpeg without color profile and quality setting of 12.
The a1 jpeg was 180kb in size and a2 was 156kb, so not too far apart, considering the difference in file size between the PDF versions. If you open the jpegs in Photoshop, you will see that the size of the letter F at the beginning of the 12pt caption is nine pixels high in each, so if the problem you are having is that small text isn't readable, maybe the text is just too small to be readable at 72ppi.

  • [CS3]How to export a table in InDesign to an excel file?

    Hi,
Can any one tell me how to script the process of exporting a table to excel file in InDesign CS3 using javascript?
    Thanks in advance.
    myRiaz

Sorry, no javaScript, but here are some lines from a localization tool that I made in VB. I simply loop through the Rows and Columns and use the Excel DOM to fill the Excel-cells.
Of course you can read amended/localized Excel files back into inDesign the same way, provided that the tables match (nr of rows and columns).
Afterwards you could loop through the characters of each cell to apply the formatting that you want to keep in Excel, such as SuperScripts.
    Hope it helps you.
    Set myExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
    myExcel.Visible = True
    Set myTableBook = myExcel.Workbooks.Add
    Set myTableSheet = myTableBook.Worksheets.Item(1)
    myTableSheet.Columns.ColumnWidth = 35
    myTableSheet.Cells.VerticalAlignment = xlVAlignTop
    myTableSheet.Cells.WrapText = True
    For R = 1 To myTable.Rows.Count
        Set myTableRow = myTable.Rows.Item(R)
        For C = 1 To myTableRow.Cells.Count
            Set myTableCell = myTableRow.Cells.Item(C)
            If Len(myTableCell.Contents) = 0 Then
                myTableSheet.Cells(R, C) = ""
            Else
                myTableSheet.Cells(R, C) = myTableCell.Contents
                myTableSheet.Cells(R, C).Value = Replace(myTableSheet.Cells(R, C).Value, "1397058884", "—")
                myTableSheet.Cells(R, C).Value = Replace(myTableSheet.Cells(R, C).Value, Chr(13), Chr(10))
            End If
        Next C
    Next R
    good luck

  • Exporting Large Jpegs

Ok so my question is this. I get on some stock photo sites and I'm seeing people with 200mb jpegs posted. I know that even a Nikon D3 isn't going to pump out the kind of quality, so I know they are using a program to resize to a larger image. Is this possible with lightroom? Even when I shoot in raw, I'm still getting the same jpeg size when I export out.
    Suggestions?

    >The guy I'm referring too is here. Supposedly istock doesn't allow people to forcefully push a file past it's original quality, but at the same time I've never heard of a camera taking 13200 x 10200 size shots.
There are several ways to get there that are not upsizing. One is to shoot (medium or large format) film and scan (duh!). Medium and large format film has far more resolution than any digital SLR or even medium format digital back on the market currently. The other is to shoot multiple images and stitch them electronically. In this case, you would either use a tilt/shift lens, or you move the camera.

  • How to open a Jpeg in Indesign CC

How can I open a Jpeg file in Indesign CC without opening a new document first? When I try to open a Jpeg photo directly through 'open file' the computer tells me I cannot open it because a plug-in is missing or the file format is not supported by Indesign CC...

That's strange, when I was working with the trial it was actually possible to open the jpeg files. Should I convert them? Or will the quality of the photo's be the same when I place them in a blanco file?
    Thanks!

  • Export Large JPEG's

I would like to send some of my images to a stock library but they require a 48 MB JPEG. Is it possible to export a file of this size from Aperture? Or do I need a third party plug-in!

Aperture doesn't resize up. You'll need a plugin.
Note, it's extremely unlikely they're looking for a 48 MB JPEG file. They're probably looking for a 48 MB TIFF file, which is in the 10-12 megapixel range if I recall correctly.

It might have but this is not a problem, if you programmatically break it up in pieces.
    Have a look at https://forums.oracle.com/message/9748097#9748097
The method demonstrates how to dump/write a CSV in binary format to disk.
I used it to dump/write files way bigger than 10++ MB in size...

  • Export anamorphic JPEG

    Hello,
Another problem, i would like to know how to export anamorphic JPEG images?
When you export JPEG in AE, pixel aspect ratio  have automatically the value 1, i would like to export one HDV frame 1440*1080 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.33, is that possible?
Even if i set an output module template, i can't success?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

I can't see any preset resize settings in the output module that would give you that, but you could create a new output module template with the correct resize and have the script apply that.
If the problem is that this still doesn't tag the output with the correct aspect ratio, maybe you could have the script put the output comp in another comp with the correct pixel aspect and render it through that.

  • Exporting large banner to pdf in InDesign - awkward way

Some new colleague has just asked me today to help her with exporting a large banner from InDesign CS5 for print.
The  banner is quite huge but InDesign - as well known to most except to  apparently her as a so called "Graphic Designer" - isn't suited for the  production of large banners rather being a text program with the  limitation of 5486,4 mm for each of the two axis.
The  banner that she has to print exceeds this length by far thus she asked  me for help today to figure out a way to export it and send it to the  print shop. It contains two blocks with black color, three text blocks  and a background image covering the whole banner. Resolution is fine for  the purpose of the banner print/material so don't mind this for now.
The important part and question is this...
I  have before had a similar job in my company doing a similar banner with  similar dimensions. However knowing that this would prove impossible to  create in neither InDesign nor Illustrator in those dimensions I decided to basically create it in Illustrator with only  vector graphics and outlined text with half the dimensions in either  axis direction of the real physical dimensions needed. In other words  50% of the physically requested banner size for the final print. I then  exported the Illustrator file to pdf and made an agreement with the  print-shop that they would upscale it to double  the size or in other words back to 100% of the size needed.
This little maneuver was a quick and easy solution of mine to a large banner request.
However  as mentioned the present banner was firstly created using InDesign -  which I think was a bad idea in the first place since I would have  personally recommended and preferred Illustrator - and secondly it  wasn't done with the right physical size for output in mind.
Now  while discussing how to upscale this banner my colleague begun going  into the print-dialogue in InDesign, chosing the "Post Script" option  (of the Post Script driver installed I guess),  then proceeded somehow to Adobe Distiller and started distilling a  version of the banner. The whole thing happened so fast that I can only  roughly recall this much but after the process took place the outcome  wasn't neither satisfying to her (somehow, don't ask me why) nor did it  seem to upscale the file.
I  then paused and looked confused for a second after which I asked her  what exactly she was trying to achieve with this action. The explanation  was - apparently - that this was "a standard procedure in a print shop"  where she had previously worked and that this "somehow was the best way  to export" in a situation like that. I am guessing here whether she  meant the pdf or the solving the actual problem with the banner size.
Anyhow  I then asked how this would make the banner or quality of it (or both  if taking it exactly) LARGER so the banner would resize to - say - 200%  if she was using half of the correct dimension size.
Now  I am always willing to learn something new and I admit that I don't  know everything (who does) but unless something really new has happened  in the last ten years that has given InDesign the ability of upscaling a  banner with the described content (and me having slept a long  beauty-sleep without my knowledge) I don't EVER recall having heard that  a procedure like THIS or ANY procedure in this situation would be  solving the problem UNLESS the banner's image has the double resolution which the  final banner print requires and is subsequently upscaled from 50% to a 100% in the  print shop.
I also guess that the export  -  Ctrl+E for InDesign or Illustrator - which I used the last time generates a  perfectly working pdf in this connection that any print shop would luckily  accept if just the rest is meeting their technical requirements for printing.
Now tell me that I am right because this really sounds odd to me...
Thanks for any input in advance.

    Okay, thanks for the input.
So I do understand the answers correctly when I say that my solution and proposal fully works and that distilling is unnecessary when exporting to pdf from either of the two applications since it a) is a perfectly working solution in regards to the print shop and b) holds - largely - the same export settings as when accessing the Adobe PDF printer or Adobe Distiller. Could anybody confirm this with a "correct" or "incorrect"?
If this is correctly understood why all the different pdf export solutions? Is it just to make the options look a bit "bigger" and giving people more options to access the pdf-export settings?
I remember that when a colleague in our previous CS1 suite created a pdf with the Adobe PDF printer and I did the same using the Ctrl+E export pdf option (which were both done from within InDesign) we got two different pdf file sizes (in i.e. kB). Her's was actually smaller than mine. I don't know if this has changed in the newer Adobe CS versions in particular the latter CS5 and honestly I don't know why - except for the settings - there should be any difference. I am not 100% sure anymore since it's been about half a year ago or so but I think to be able to remember that our export settings were similar if not the same (most likely some of the standard settings).
    Any thoughts on this one...?
