How to export layer width, height, and position to a text document?

I am working on an automated workflow for which I need to know the exact width, height, and position in pixels of certain layers in a PSD.
I am pretty sure this is possible with applescript but does anyone know of a way to have this info included automatically in the documents metadata?

Hi Gabriele - how did you add the subs to FCP? if you added them using the text tools built in then you need to try to extract those first. Neither FCP or DVDSP are good places to create subtitles, but apps like STL Edit and Belle Nuit are. These will both create subs that can be imported into DVDSP. You can also use a text file to import the subs as long as the text file is set up correctly. The precise format is listed in the manual for DVDSP and a tool like BBEdit is ideal if you want to do the subs this way. Some folk even use Excel to set up the timecodes, etc, but personally I find that too distracting, preferring to work with STL Edit when I need to add subs.
One thing is almost universally agreed upon in here - create the subs outside of DVDSP and import them in, since if you need to move, alter or otherwise change them it is a lot easier from within a text file than from within DVDSP.

If you're just doing it in a back and forth or spiral fashion, you don't need to check whether a square's been filled in. You just go from a start point to an end point. Those points and the squares in between are determined by simple arithmetic.
If you're doing it randomly, I wouldn't use the GUI elements themselves. I'd have, for example, and array of booleans that tells whether each square has been filled in.

How can you detect all words and phrases in a text document using java?

Is there some java API which would help me extract all words, multi-word phrases, punctuations in an English text document? I would also like to get the order in which they appear with sentence detection. I've been searching for this in java NLP packages, but haven't found anything yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't understand what you actually want, but if your on about having a file and splitting it up into sentences then i would look into either psudocode or parsing strings, theres not a java api as far as i know that does anything like you want, you would have to write it yourself or find a project someone else has made.

If you are in Photoshop CC, go into Preferences, click Interface, and turn on Show Transformation Values. In the picture below, setting it to Top Right means the pixel height and width appear to the Top Right of the Crop tool pointer.
(Edit: The picture only shows Height because the bottom edge is being dragged. If a corner was being dragged it would say H and V.)

I struggled with this one as well, as i'm finishing up a PhD thesis and word counts are incredibly important. Through trial and error i found out that words like 'e.g.' and 'i.e.' count as two words and an ampersand (&) doesn't count at all. That being said, i didn't like the fact that the word count always included footnotes and i was dismayed that i couldn't get an accurate count of words in the main body of my text. That all disappeared yesterday when, by chance, while i was copying a completed chapter and pasting it into my main document, i discovered that Pages can indeed give you an accurate word count excluding the footnotes! Here's all you need to do:
1. In pages 5.2, make sure that the Word Count function is first enabled by selecting View --> Show Word Count from the Pages Menu Bar. (If it's already enabled, it will read View --> Hide Word Count, so if that's what it says, then no need to do anything.)
2. Once enabled, check the Word count that's currently showing at the bottom of the page. That's the word count including your footnotes.
2. Now, place your cursor anywhere within the current document, then hit command+A (for Select All).
3. Viola! Your word count now shows the actual number of words within the body of the text only, excluding footnotes!

If the text exceeds the container, which can happen in a scrollable container where you have to scroll to see some of the text, then the values getContentBounds returns are estimated values. This is because we don't want to force the text to recompose all the way to the end of a very long TextFlow in order to return a value. However, if you want to get the exact amount, and don't mind taking the time to recompose, call textFlow.flowComposer.composeToPosition(), before calling getContentBounds. This forces all the text to recompose to the end, and then getContentBounds will return the fully calculated value instead of estimating.

I design albums using lots of photos. I often find myself copying a particular frame's width and height then pasting it individually across other frames. Is there a way to copy and paste a frames width and height and apply it across numerous frames? I'm not changing the content dimensions (photo) just the frame dimensions.

I'm new to the video stuff, so i have a few questions. i am planning to post videos on my blog. I want to have them in a format that both windows and mac users can play. is this a possibility or will i have to export .wmv for windows and quicktime for mac? i realize that windows users can download quicktime, but i either want the video to be viewable in a format that can be read by all without having to download anything (might be too big a wish :o) ). if i can't do that, then i'd like to have 2 links - one for quicktime and one to the .wmv. in this case, how to i export a .wmv file? i don't see that option anywhere on the share menu? do i need to buy quicktime pro? that leads me to another questions - if i have imovie, do i need quicktime pro? so far i'm having a hard time figuring out what quicktime pro has that imovie doesn't....thanks in advance!

Posting to YouTube and providing a URL link might be the most universal method of playback although quality may be on the weak side.

WMV is a proprietary compression format. You will either have to purchase the authorized QT components from Flip4Mac or purchase a separate open source converter application like Visual Hub.

Any you won't even if you purchase and install the QT component -- iMovie '08 only exports to QT compression formats.

It wouldn't help. Getting QT Pro only unlocks editing and conversion features. It does not add any additional codecs which don't already have installed.

As indicated above, QT Pro allows you to convert to/from any compression formats for which you have working import/export QT components. This can already be be done using GarageBand and iMovie. GarageBand allows you to access any installed QT import/export component while iMovie '08 restricts you to Apple QT components. In addition, QT Pro allows you to create player displays with multiple audio/video tracks, gives you ability to layer graphic elements (e.g, create watermarks, create pictures-within-pictures, etc,), allow the viewer to switch between alternate audio and/or video tracks, and may other things.
ADDED: If you really want to see what QT Pro can do, check out QTKirk's examples on his DotMac account.

Fcpx 10.2 export changed the shape and position of my shape masks. Ideas?

Fcpx 10.2. Upon export it changed the shape and position of my shape masks. It also created "cordoroy" looking screens where some photos had been. Looking for help.

Thanks for the response. My project is 1280x720 29.97 fps. Here's a shot of the corduroy. The first time I exported using the "export" choice. I rebooted and exported again choosing "master" file. The settings were the same on both- 1280x720, 29.97, H.264. The corduroy went away the second time. The masks are still off. I'm using them throughout my project. They are closer to center on both of the quicktime movie outputs than on my screen in the project. I could send pics.

You can generate report to tab delimite format that can be imported to excel.
As for the performance question, because reports can't specify what format when you run against previewer, so I don't know what previewer you are talking about. Generate to file is always faster than to your application previewer (assume) because you have one more step after output generated in the file: read from file and render it. Depends on the render and size of the output, it may have significant performance difference.

How to export video to quicktime and keep it looking good?

Hi,
I am just wondering, what is the best codec and what are the best export settings to use to take DVCpro50 footage to something that looks good for web/browser viewing? is it recommended to use the animation codec at 100%?, and then via quicktime export to something like mp4?
When I try to export from FCP to mp4 (h.264), I get "codec error".. Which always makes me just export to dv ntsc, and then from quicktime I convert to mp4.. However, when going to DV NTSC, the picture immediately becomes blurry and fuzzy..
Would love to know how is the best way to do this.

Not sure why you are getting a codec error...
Try this method first...
File - Export - Quicktime Conversion... then when the window comes up change the default (or Recent Settings) to BROADBAND HIGH... then, click OPTIONS and change the size to something you want... if you choose 480x270 it will be widescreen 480x320 will be 4:3.
This will give you great clarity at about 3megs a minute.

I created a Feedback page using the apex feedback feature, not a customized page. The link to the Feedback page calls the apex.navigation.popup.url using javascript to open a popup window. Does anyone know the proper syntax for adjusting the width and height of the popup window?
I have tried the following, but the window width/height does not adjust:

Why not call navigation.popup instead of navigation.popup.url then? popup.url does have the hardcoded values, but it just calls popup anyway. Nothing stops you from doing the same:
javascript:apex.navigation.popup({"url":'f?p=&APP_ID.:102:&SESSION.:::102:P102_APPLICATION_ID,P102_PAGE_ID:&APP_ID.,&APP_PAGE_ID.',"name":"winLov","width":350,"height":400});
Use "winLov" if you want to keep that same popup.url functionality of overriding the same opened window. If you do not provide name the url will open in a new window every time.
The width and height values are hardcoded in popup.url, but they are not in .popup. There are only defaults in a default object there, and will be overridden when you provide an object with these parameters to the function.
