How to export "original" w/o Lr adjustments?

I've searched this "6 ways from Sunday" and can't find an answer. Often I will start the edit process in Lr (making various adjustments including cropping, changes in white balance, etc.) and decide for variety of reasons that I need to work on the ORIGINAL file without Lr's adjustments. The export dialog has "export to hard drive" and under file settings: Image format "Original." Despite selecting this and requesting no other changes exporting ALWAYS includes Lr edits. I've worked in preferences and in the export options and as I said done a lot of searching but can't seem to get to the original (as in unaltered) file. The only way to do this is to go to the edited file in Lr and reset or delete all adjustments, then export. Note this also happens with "Edit in Ps." Why, you ask, would one want this? Example: I have to provide a team photo to the newspaper in a specific format. I then want to use the same original photo to create a poster for possible sale. (Do you have any idea how hard it is to get 15 kids to all have their eyes open at the same time? ) Of course the cropping and treatment of a poster is significantly different than that necessary for paper submission.
Again, I've looked and doubtlessly overlooked, but can't find an answer. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Robert
Lr 5.3, Mac OS X 10.8.5 (all current updates) Original files are .CR2 though I can't see how this would be relevant.

Thanks for the quick responses. Suzanne, the "Create Virtual Copy" is a great idea. I actually had no clue what Adobe meant by "virtual" in this case. Seems as if it's missed named as what one is doing is marking the original in place.
Bob your explanation that it depends on how the the viewing program interprets the metadata makes sense. I can see an argument from Adobe that obviously you'll want to use the work you've done if you export it. On the other hand nearly all of my plugins provide a choice that says something like "Open with Lightroom changes?" Would be trivial for Adobe to add this both to "Export as Original" and to "Edit in Ps." I would argue that very few people would interpret "Export as Original" to mean "Export in original format, but include all the changes you've made."
I came to Lr from a competing program that allowed one to set whether or not they wanted virtual copies created when an adjustment was made. I always chose this approach and while one might end up with several intermediate "views" they were easy to stack and easy to delete any you didn't want to retain. I note that there is stacking in Lr but haven't figured out what it does other than to take a selection of pix and put them in a pile.
Again, thanks. I'll experiment.

  • How to export HD?

Thanks so much for the help guys! I think I'm cursed! :(
I have CS4 and can't figure out how to export my HD sequence as uncompressed HD. I tried uncompressed AVI and MOV (compression "none") but had to change the height and width up to 1920x1080 thinking that would make it HD. Apparently it didn't because it doesn't look very good. It's faded and stretched vertically too much. That doesn't make sense because the source and ouput have the exact same size! Grrr!
BTW, I don't think it's exporting the color finesse 2 adjustments I made on it. I have the full version of CF2 installed using the latest update to CS4 in the plug-ins folder. It worked on the sequence fine, but when it goes to the exporter I don't see the corrections in the outputted file. And when I try to use H.274 or whatever it's called and use the HD setting (the only output option I see that says HD) it gives an error saying that Color Finesse needs to be installed using the AE installer. But Premiere and AE are on the same installer file. There's just one! I'm so confused!!!

Sorry for the confusion. I was at the exporting step. However, if you think that part of the problem that I'm having is that I imported a file with a codec that's giving PPro problems, then I need to go back and reconvert the original file and then import that into PPro. Does that make sense? I know it's a bit confusing.
    Here's the ultimate plan, step-by-step:
    1) I have footage in a codec that PPro won't recognize (it's what the news station used for their broadcast)
    2) I have to convert that footage into some type of file the PPro will recognize.
    3) I then import that footage into PPro and do editing, replacing the audio track with my own and making some edits and color correction using color finesse 2.
    4) I then will export that footage as HD.
    5) Then I will convert that exported footage into something smaller.
    6) I will then upload it to Vimeo and place it on my website.
The problem I'm having is with step 4. What's being exported does not look right and does not look like HD, it's faded and blurry like SD. Color Finesse 2 has an error message when trying to export.
    So my question is this
    A) what exact settings do I need in PPro to export the footage as lossless HD?
    B) why is color finesse 2 giving me an error message saying it has the wrong "flavor" installed?
    C) If the problem is that I used H.246 to convert the footage back in step 2, what codec should I use and how can I do that using an FFMpeg gui program (FFMpeg is the only program that can decode the xdvb codec the original file used)?
Hopefully, that helps clear things up.

  • How to export a continous waveform data from a while loop?

    Hello there,
I need to add noise signal to my waveform which is read from a binary file. I use noise generate vi (deleted the density part) from NI example as my sub VI, and put it into a while loop in order to get the continous noise signal, but I don't know how to export this data. There's no waveform come out from the noise waveform output tunnel (on the while loop). I used output tunnel, didn't work, tried shift register, didn't work... Can anybody help?
Also, how to fix the dt problem for the noise generate vi and my original data ( from binarty file)
    Thanks in advance!

    hi
I think notifier can do the trick (an example is shown in the master-slave template).
Another possibility can be a FG (or action engine, look for the nugget ActionEngine, it will change your LV-coding life !)

Perhaps try the Editor top menu:
    File > Process Multiple Files
Then choose an output folder on your hard drive or CD/DVD etc.
    Otherwise use iPhoto:
File -> Export, Kind: Original etc.

  • How to edit DNG in Photoshop after adjustments but without them?

Ok, this might seem a stupid question but let me properly explain...
Just to make it clear, I now know I cannot edit a DNG directly in Photoshop, this must be converted to TIFF and that one can be edited and imported back into Lightroom.
I've read many posts where people tend to all LR adjustments and then go to PS for the final touches, but I prefer the other way around, PS first for any pixel editing and LR to finish the image. But I have two problems this simply because I forgot to edit some image in PS before making my LR adjustments. The only thing I wanted to do in PS was to remove some sensor dust I didn't notice before.
The problem is that I have now finished all my LR adjustments and I can't find a proper way to edit the original (without LR adjustments). When I open the context menu in LR and select Edit » Photoshop, all LR adjustments will be processed and the TIFF file generated will have them.
Q1: Isn't there a way to edit a DNG file in Photoshop without LR adjustments just like we can do it for any other type of file that is not some sort of RAW file?
To answer my own question, the only way I found to do this was to preset the Reset button in the Develop module in LR and then to Edit » Photoshop. This will work but it's a little bit clumsy, anyway to avoid this or is it my only option?
Let's say I do it like that anyway. I'm now with the original untouched DNG file converted to TIFF opened in Photoshop, I do all my pixel editing and save the file. This TIFF file will be automatically imported into Lightroom so I can do any final touches. Since I did a "reset" and the image edited in Photoshop was the original untouched by LR, I now need to do all my editing in LR all over again.
I though of simply copying all develop settings from the old original DNG into the new converted TIFF. But this doesn't work, the files are different, the same settings do not work for these 2 different fle types. The image looks completetly different.
Q2: How can I fix this without playing with all the sliders again to achieve the same look?
I've been done this road before and it was a painful process, in the end, I was not able to get the same exact result.
EDIT: I did not mention the spot removal tool because I wasn't getting very good results with it, it doesn't work as good as Photoshop's tools. The sensor dust was in the sky and very close to some clouds, selecting the whole thing was not working. After some time, I added 5 spot removals and was able to properly clean the sky of that dust. Still would love to hear opinions on my questions above.

Not it's not, it's my workflow, why don't you understand that? If I want to edit in PS first, well, that's my decision, you are assuming I want to keep the RAW data intact and if I wanted yes, my workflow would be wrong because I couldn't do it like that, but I don't want to keep it. Actually, in a perfect world, I would want to be able to keep RAW data and do som pixel editing in the same file, but this is not a perfect world so I'm fine in losing the RAW data. I never stated that but I though it was implicit the way I described my workflow.
I already knew everything you said in your post, nothing new there.
"You really can't move back and forth it one direction only..."
Like I said, I'm not looking moving back and forth, I don't think yous guys are understanding my question properly. Let's take another approach to see if you guys understand it better. I shot some photo in RAW and converted it to JPG (yes JPG), I've now lost any RAW data. However, I like to keep my files in DNG (DNG is a container so I can do that) and convert the JPG file into a DNG. I know have my "master" file as a JPG file in a DNG container.
I start to do some editing in LR in my master file but I forgot to remove the dust on Photoshop and now I need someway to open the original in Photoshop to remove it, because I don't want to lose all my LR adjustments, I want to edit the original and keep my LR adjustments. But even if the file inside the DNG container is a JPG file, since the file format is DNG, I don't have the option to Edit without LR adjustments when I chose Edit » Photoshop. As soon as I do that, the DNG file will be opened in PS with all LR adjustments, but this file is actually a JPG, there's no RAW data anymore. The only way to edit the original file like this is to "reset" all LR adjustments before going pressing the edit context menu option and then copy back all settings from a to b.
Now, this will work just fine because the original file is no longer RAW data, but linear data (I think it's called like this? what I mean, is a JPG, not RAW; i'll call it like this from now on, sorry if this is wrong) and so the settings can be copied at will from one file to ther other without any problems. After a bit of research I read around this forums that LR settings differ slightly if the original file is RAW data or linear data. For instance, the middle point for Temperature is actually 0 for JPG files but if it's a RAW file, it's something like 6500K (not necessarily this, just an example), and that means I can't copy the settings back and forth with a copy/paste.
    So, to recapitulate...
My original image is now linear data (JPG) not RAW and saved into a DNG container and since it's a DNG container I cannot open the context menu Edit » Photoshop » Without LR Adjustments. Why? Is there any other any way around it or there's nothing I can besides making a reset or saving a snapshot in LR with the original settings so I can open them at will in PS and then copy the settings from a to b. I just don't understand why there isn't an option, for DNG files, to open it without all LR adjustments like all other files. It's actually a JPG file inside, not RAW data, so, why not? But even if it was RAW data, there could be such an option to. I mean, when you have RAW data and press Edit » Photoshop, the file will be demosaiced (or whatever it's called) and opened in PS, when you save it, it will be saved as TIFF. So why isn't there an option to demosaic the original file without LR adjustments.
As to my second question, I guess there's no way to solve it either. The data on each file is different and the sliders behave differently so there's not way to copy the settings from a file to another if the saved data is not of the same type. And there's also no way to "convert" the settings from one file to the other, or is there? That was actually my question, if there was a way to copy/convert the settings from a RAW file into a linear file so I don't have to move all the sliders all over again and try to achieve the same goal. But after a quick search around the forums, I found a related question and I guess there's no way to do it.

How to export a PDF to a word document? at the moment it came up with "The encoding (CMap) specified by a font is missing ????? what can I do?  thanks

    Hi frenchiem,
This is due to the PDF file cannot display the original fonts. To fix it, creator should create the PDF file with the embed font option enabled. Thus, user can open the file on any platform with the same layout. Or the Acrobat product can display them after you install the appropriate font support package on the client side.

  • I cannot seem to figure out how to export the pictures I have worked on. I create a collection and when I export them they go to "my pictures" as the originals --NOT the cropped and edited versions. Help!!!

How to export you pictures after they have been edited?

Are you sure you are looking at the exported photos and not the original photos, when you say you don't see the cropping and editing?
If so, then you are probably exporting with Image Format set to "Original" and you probably want to set it to JPG or TIF

  • How to export full quality in photos

In iPhoto you used to be able to export a modified picture in 'current' quality, which was full quality as shown in iPhoto.
Now in the new photos app this option is gone (only allowing to export original image in full quality). The best now seems to be exporting the jpeg at maximum quality which it's compressing the image from what is seen in photos app.
Does anyone know how to get around this...incredibly annoying as I want to edit images in photos, then export out that full quality to share or print or whatever.

You misunderstand what 'quality' means in this context. Quality is about the amount of compression applied to the image when the Jpeg is created. Is had very little to do with the quality of the photo. A well exposed image will print pretty much the same from a 1, 2 or 5mb image, especially from a  domestic printer. You might see artefacts on a very high quality printer, but it's really not that mooch different.
Jpeg quality really comes into play if you use a lossless editor after exporting. This is in the nature of the Jpeg format. It's not an image format at all, it's a compression format attuned to images. Essentially its a special kind of zip file. When you open a Jpeg it's decompressed, so that 5mb Jpeg could contain a file that uses 50mb of RAM.
However, if you edit the image, then the file is recompressed and that means that some data is thrown away. In theory, edit a Jpeg enough times and you'll have an empty file. To overcome this, when you edit in apps like iPhoto/Photos the original file is not touched. The edit decisions are recorded in the db and only committed to the file when exported.
Exporting create a new file, containing the same photograph. But the quality of the file - which is the amount of compression applied - can be selected. If you found that the Preview in iPhoto always matched the reported size of the original then either a: that was a fluke or b: the image wasn't edited.
Medium gives about the same quality as the Preview, that's all.
The best quality to export at depends on the next use the file gets: if it's going to editing further, then high. Other than that it doesn't make a huge amount of difference.

  • How to export as a .mp4 file in good quality?

    Hi,
I want to produce a video as a .mp4 file which suits best for the webb.
How to export a project from iMovie as a .mp4 file in a GOOD quality and original size or ratio?
    What to do?
I went to Share-export with Quick Time and changed the file format to MPEG4 but the quality is really bad. The size is small 300x200 something and picture quality is really bad.
How to produce a video easiest in iMovie which suits best for the webb (in HD quality). Not all people have Quick Time so .mov is not suitable. And .m4v files don't play very well on webb. They get stuck.
    What to do?
    Thankful for your help.

Today I started this project, and garageband no longer has "export movie" as a choice,
Are you now using GarageBand 10.0?
    Then import the movie,
Track menu > Show Movie Track
File menu > Movie > Open Movie
    Mix the sound track song
Then use the "File" menu > Movie > Export Audio to Movie.
This will write the audio aa an audio track into the imported movie.

How to export iPhoto Album in iMAC and have similar folder structure(with Timestamps) which can be viewed in finder
In simple terms, I wanted to view the photos in Windows system, similar strcture of iPhotos

If you want to copy all of your photos to a Windows machine and have them in folders representing the iPhoto Events the were in quickly and easily just do the following:
1  - open the library with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:
2 - COPY the Originals/Masters folder to the Desktop.
3 - copy the Originals/Masters folder to the Windows machine.
This will give you all of your original image file in their Event folder on the Windows machine.
NOTE:  With iPhoto 8 or newer the Event folders in the Masters folder will be titled by date (EXIF) if imported from a camera.  If imported from a folder the event folder will have the same title as the source folder.  If imported singularly or in a group without a folder the title will be a date, either the EXIF date or import date.
With iPhoto 7 (08) and earlier the Event folders in the Originals folder will have the same title as the Event has in the library.
This method would be quicker but not provide the additional metadata you might have added in iPhoto like keywords, titles, descriptions that exporting out of iPhoto with Format=JPEG and the checkboxes selected to include keywords, titles, places, etc, checked.

  • How To EXPORT In Aperture

    Hi,
I have imported some photos, and edited them using Aperture.
But I do not know how to "export" the edited photos.
Like I "move the photo dsc001 behind dsc0008", but it still does not make any change after I export them.
    Thanks.
    Ed

Like I "move the photo dsc001 behind dsc0008"
Can you please explain a little more how you tried to export? I really do not understand how you are moving an image behind another, and how that is supposed to export?
If you have edited an image in Aperture and want to export the edited image to a folder on your hard disk, you use the "Export" command from Aperture's main menu bar:
              File > Export > Version
Then set the "Export Preset" pop up menu to a suitable size and encoding, for example: "Jpeg - Original Size" and select a folder to export to. You can also specify a subfolder format and a naming preset.
Or you can use the "Share" menu to email your images or to share them online.

    Option 1:
    ./imp username/password file=db-export.dmp full=y

    Option 2:
pre-create your table then import with ignore=y option.
    If still error then :
make sure userB just have one default tablespace (BC) and quota only on BC. So if you have unlimited quota for userB on all tablespaces, then objects will go to original tablespace and not the tablespace you want to put in(to default tablespace).
Revoke any unlimited tablespace privs from userB and just have one default tablespace.
    REVOKE UNLIMITED TABLESPACE FROM USERB;

  • How see the original resolution of an image in Photoshop CC

I need to see the original resolution of a jpg, but when I go to Image size it is in much higher resolution. the jpg is about 600K which makes me suspect it is in 72 dpi, but when I open it in Photoshop CC it is about 23 MB and in 300 dpi. I need to know what the original is, and Image size is where I used to go to find out before I switched to CC. Does anyone know how I can check the original size and resolution?

I mean the size and resolution that the image was in when received it. I
had it as a jpg from my client, and have made no adjustments myself so
far. You are correct that I was just assuming that something must be
wrong. What puzzled me is that when I looked at the info about the

  • How to export pictures?

My last computer that I had crashed but luckily I imported all of my photos from my computer onto my iPhone and I just purchased a MacBook and now I don't know how to export those pictures onto my new computer. The pictures are not in the camera roll otherwise I would just use the iCloud. Please help!

Those are not "photos" that you imported from your computer.  They're just thumbnails of the pictures that you had on your computer for display.  If you didn't back up the original photos from your crashed computer, then they're gone.
Those thumbnails on your iPhone are of such low resolution, they're of no pratical use at all.

  • How to export quicktime with timecode burn?

I am scoring a film (in Pro Tools HD) and the editor isn't quite sure how to export the film to a quicktime movie with timecode burned in (i believe that's the term for timecode being visible on the preview...?). I don't know what version of FCP he's on but I was hoping someone could give me some generalized instructions I could give him.
Also, if I have to compress the video to slipstream the processing/reading in pro tools, will I retain proper timecode? thanks!

He would have to change the Timecode offset value under the Filters tab in the Browser.
Find a scene that starts on a hard cut, say 1 minute or so into the movie. Note the timecode.
Your guy then fiddles around with the beginning, making it 6 seconds and 8 frames shorter.
Go back to the reference cut and you will see that its TC has changed by that much.
Adjust the Offset parameter to match. This has to be done by entering the number of frames. You can use positive and negative values as required, which will also cover for the changed scenes turning out longer than they were originally.
