How to export song for a pro tools user

how do i export an audio instrument track for a pro tools user? i have a song with audio track and audio instruments and i was wondering if there was a way i could export the audio instruments seperately
iMAC G5 isight   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   M-audio keystation 49, m-audio firewire 4-10, logic pro 7, yamaha monitors

this is very easy now in logic. look in file -> export and there are a range of options.
export region as audio file, and export tracks as audio files. if you do this (as opposed to OMF which is really only best for audio) then it is worth making sure that the regions start at the same point. it might be worth checking to see if exporting tracks as audio files will do this automatically for you - i have not used the feature.
once the tracks have been exported (and incidentally they will print all the plug-in processing you have applied to them in the channel-strips) then simply import them into PT and start working. obviously they should all start at the same position.

This is a positive criticism: it was easy with Acrobat Pro X v.9.x. The new Acrobat interface without menus and submenus is awkward and utterly anti-intuitive. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!! Thanks.

  • PLEASE READ!!! Pro Tools user - need tips on processor upgrades for movies

    Hello all,
I know this is a FCP forum but thought that you may be able to help.
I'm a Pro Tools user and I bassically wanted to know if there is any hardware (like some sort of card) that I can buy to manage my processor's workload. I would buy a Pro Tools TDM system, but they cost so much.
I just want my Pro Tools to run smoothly (working with video) and right now, with my single processor - i can't. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
    - Josh

Truth is, you really need multiple CPU's nowadays, especially for your ProTools filters to stay realtime. And your G4 is getting a little long in the tooth. It's going to be hard to keep it being a viable, up to date machine, as you stuff more and more tasks onto it and expect it to keep up in realtime. There are CPU accelerators for your CPU available (check www.macsales.com, xlr8yourmac.com or others), but you cannot make the jump from one to two procs on your system, and it's a game of declining returns...
If money's an issue, why not sell your G4 and buy a used Dual Proc G5? You may find yourself short only about $1k in the transaction, possibly even less if you get lucky. You will definitely see a major performance difference, and you won't have to reinvest in plugins, cards, etc for the new Intel architecture.

    Hello all,
I know this is a Logic forum but I thought music people would be able to help me.

    There are some suggestions.
it depends on which plugs you need and want to use. For example you can buy TC POWERCORE. Or maybe from Waves a APA. You can choose a UAD Card or, a little bit cheaper a Liquid Mix from Focusrite. All this hardware is used to for managing the plugs, so that your processor is free for other works.
    Hope this helps

  • Pro Tools User Considering Logic Express

    Hi Everyone,
I've been a Pro Tools LE user for a number of years. When I read that Avid would be charging $250 for an upgrade to Pro Tools LE 9 (plus $40 for the mandatory iLok) I decided to explore other options.
My main concern is with CPU overload. I recently purchased a new Mac Mini with 8GB RAM, and a Glyph external hard drive. I had hoped that the dreaded Pro Tools 6101 CPU overload errors would be a thing of the past, but even with a much more powerful computer, the errors continued, and most frustrating, there would be no rhyme or reason. I could play a 16-track project with no problems, but it would choke on a file with no more than 7 or 8 tracks. Extremely frustrating when you are losing creative time to constantly troubleshoot.
Are there any former Pro Tools users out there who have had similar issues? Have you had any better luck with Logic?

    Hi,
don't know about Pro Tools, but CPU overload usually has to do with a too low buffer setting, and it's the same in Logic. So, in Pro Tools, try to find a preference where you can set the audio buffer to a higher value, and the CPU overloads should be history.
You should not switch DAW's only because of CPU problems. Ask in the PT forum for other solutions. You should only switch if you need the other features of Logic.

  • I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back

I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back to the "Archive" of my 10.4.11 System from the "Previous Systems" folder?  If not, what's the point of creating the "archive"?

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

BTW, it is never recommended to do a major OS change without having a full, bootable backup.

  • How to use GB loops in Pro Tools

I'm creating music and collaborating with someone who has Pro Tools but doesn't have Garage Band. My song was recorded into his Pro Tools software. I found a drum loop in my Garageband that I want to use with the song. How can I put it into his Pro Tools without losing any of the integrity of the audio?

I appreciate your help. As you can guess, I am new to the Apple discussion groups.
I tried unhiding files with Terminal, but that did not appear to help in this situation
I did find an answer that suits me for the mean time.
    First  -  (to see loops)
to see the Apple loops on my computer with Finder-
    -1 open Finder
-2 Click on 'Go' icon at top of page
-3 This brings drop down box
-4 Click 'Go to Folder' and enter the following
           /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Garageband
Second  - to get them into Final Cuty Pro X
Create new folder in     /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple
called                         Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro
Now copy all files from    'Apple Loops for Garageband'
to       'Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro'
By creating the folder 'Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro', it livens its existing link within Final Cut Pro X,
so when you are in Final cut and go to the 'Music and Sound' icon you can now see the folder has changed from gray to blue, and you can see any files you copied into it.
Cheers to all the help from others in trying to understand Finder.

  • How to export from Final Cut Pro after downloading Maverick

Final Cut Pro no longer exports after installing Maverick.  I get this: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)  - have paid for Compressor and instaled it - but it makes no difference.

But how do I update Final Cut Pro 10.0.3?  Apple says all my updates for everything are fine.  It worked well before I installed Maverick, and now I can't get any of my short films out of it!  They won't copy over to IMovie so I have to start again and basically scrap Final Cut Pro - which seems a bit unfair just for updating to Maverick.  Makes the free download a bit pricey in the long term.

  • Export Settings for Mpix Pro

Can anyone tell me specific export settings to use for mpix pro? Or, settings in general for commercial labs?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Changing the DPI or PPI (pixels per inch) setting has absolutely no impact on print quality. The only thing that matters is the pixel dimensions of the image. For instance, if you send an image with pixel dimensions of 800x600 pixels and expect to print a 16 x 20" print from that image, it isn't going to work. There aren't enough pixels regardless of what the PPI setting is. If you want to do the math to determine how many pixels you need that is up to you. I usually just send the full-sized image. Most of the labs that I have used will warn you if there aren't enough pixels. So if you send the full-sized image it doesn't matter whether it's set at 72 PPI, 150 PPI, 300 PPI, or whatever. You still have all the pixels and can print the same quality.
It's amazing what commercial labs can do these days. I was in a local camera store one day when they have an in-house photolab. And they were printing a very large photo on roll paper. It probably measured somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 x 4' or larger. The quality was very good. I asked them how large of an image was required for a print of that size, and to my surprise they said two megapixels. While I would recommend pushing my luck that far I was really impressed with the quality of the image.

  • How to export chart for publication?

How to export a chart created in Numbers for publication (either as TIFF or JPEG or PDF)?
    Thanks

Thank you for the response. In the meantime, I figured out the following. There is no way to just export the chart itself without exporting the whole spreadsheet including the chart.
These are the steps I took to generate the chart in different formats.
    1. I first changed the View in Numbers to 'Layout'
    2. Moved the graph so that it was situated completely within a page all by itself.
    3. Exported the file as PDF.
    4. Opened file in Preview
    5. Used 'Rectangle' selection tool
    6. Used the tool to select the Chart/Graph
    7. Chose copy from Edit Menu
    8. Created new preview document by selecting 'New from Clipboard' under File menu
    9. Next chose Export
    10. Chose format for Export (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc) and Resolution requested by publisher of Journal.
    11. Saved!
    Cheers

  • Audio sync problem: exporting from FCP to Pro tools or soundtrack pro

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Cut Pro sound export for mastering.....sync problem
    Hey,
I'm editing a 30 minute film and I have done most of the sound edit in FCP and Soundtrack pro and I want to now bring all the sound into pro tools to master the sound but every time i export sound into pro tools it seems to stretch by two or three seconds.
I have tried OMF, AIFF, XML, and Quicktime audio file sut to no avail!!!!
There are 50 tracks in the file so it is quiet large. It's not that there are handles of the file also as when I sync the file with the audio track with the video it syncs in one place but it is still out of sync in another.........It's as if the audio has been stretched!?!
If anyone has any advice it'd be much appreciated
    Keith

Try mixing down the audio first. Sequence/Render Only/Audio mixdown.
You could even try exporting the audio with the Export QT movie command using "current settings" and reimport that file, Add that mixed down file to a copy of the sequence. If it syncs in FCP I'd think it will sync on export too.

  • Export audio stems to Pro Tools 10

    Hi,
Whats the quickest and easiest way to export audio stems for a sound guy who works with Pro Tools 10?
    Sami

    Hi Sami,
Typically when I send cuts to a sound designer working in ProTools I send them an OMF of the sequence.  This sends them the cut data as well as all required audio files.
If you only want to send "Track Stems", baking all audio clips into tracks, then you can mute/disable all tracks and export mono/stereo audio files individually or you can create a new sequence with multichannel audio master (tracks tab when creating a sequence) and copy/paste your sequence into it, then route all your tracks to individual outputs.  For example, if you had 8 tracks, you would create a sequence with 8 channel output, then route each track to a seperate output (if the tracks are stereo you will need to pan L/R for odd/even channels).
    Cheers,

  • FCP omfi export not compatible with pro tools?

I have just finished an edit, and exported the audio to omf. The mixer at the sound facility claims that pro tools can't read an omf exported by fcp. I think this is rubbish. Is there any foolproof way to export an omf for pro-tools import?
    cheers
    Mark

The mixer at the sound facility claims that pro tools can't read an omf exported by fcp.
    Of course it can.
There's plenty of discussion about FCP and ProTools here already. [Take a look|http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?threadID=&q=ProTools&objID=f939&d ateRange=all&userID=&numResults=15&rankBy=10001].

  • How to export files for book's

whats the best way to export files for a book? lets say I want to make an apple book using aperture with 60 pics in it from my son's recent black belt test. do I simply send the 60 best pics to apple in raw/master format and let them figure it out? or do I try to do image editing myself and send them jpegs? if I send them jpegs how do I strip out the Adobe rgb that my Nikon d70 seems to embed so the lab can do the color balancing?
thanks for any help. great camera. great software. total amateur dad photographer and I really want to get these particular pics right!

To get the pictures in the Aperture-produced book really looking good, you should plan on printing a test book. Then based on the test book you can adjust your images to add saturation or contrast or whatever you need to get them looking right. Remember, any book you order online is printed by a CMYK printer, which has a specific and kind of limited color space. It's hard to predict what changes will happen in the conversion to CMYK, so the best thing is use the first book printing as a test, not as something you expect to look really great.
