How to extend display?

I have an old display "LG Flatiron L222WS" and a MBK Pro Retina. The display have only vga output and i have a converter from vga to hdmi. Whenever i connect the hdmi to the computer, i can extend or mirror display. The problem is that no picture is being shown on the lg display.
I do have an another computer, a tower with windows built-in and it works on that. It just doesn't work on MacBook Pro so far.
Any suggestion what the problem can be?

Sorry for not being clearer.
The cable is VGA on both sides and the external display LG have one [1] output, vga. I recently got a [2] vga to hdmi converter to being able to plug it in my macbook pro retina computer. The [3] computer recognize the display and it doesn't work. Meaning that nothing is viewed on the LG display, just pure black.
OK - I think I have it...
you said 'output' - but you mean the LG display has a VGA INPUT
by converter, you mean a device or box with internal wiring that takes HDMI input and Outputs VGA
Your MBPro "sees" the LG is connected in the Display System Preference pane
Does the Display PrefPane indicate a "resolution" - i.e., is it getting a signal back from the LG display? Is there also a list of resolutions and MHz - 1024x768, 60MHz for example? If list, then choose other resolution and scan rates until you find one that makes the LG 'light up' - the MHz is the critical value.
I use an HDTV vga<->vga and can get a 'black screen' on it by picking a combination that is incompatible with the TV's capability

  • How to create a 'parallel' extended display through Apple TV Airplay

    Dear all,
I'm a relatively new Mac user and have not been able to find an answer to my question by looking up key words in Google or here, so apologies if this has been answered before.
Basically, I would like to know how I can project a video file or a film/TV series I am watching (for example, a video playing in VLC or a film streaming from my subscription to Amazon Prime Instant Video website, open in a browser) onto my Toshiba TV, via Apple TV airplay - whilst still being able to work on a separate window/desktop on my MacBook Air.
As a PC user slowly converting to Mac, I know how to do this on a PC by using the Windows logo key +P shortcut, choosing 'Extend' instead of 'Duplicate' and then dragging whatever video source I want to watch into the extended desktop screen being projected on my TV. I've tried doing this on the Mac by
using the multiple desktops in Mission Control (with no success, as Airplay obviously just mirrors what I'm doing on my screen onto the TV, i.e. switching from desktop to desktop as I do on the computer), or
by clicking 'Extend Desktop' instead of the automatic 'Mirror Built-in Display' on the Airplay icon on the menu bar and then dragging the browser into the extended display on the TV and hitting the 'Full screen' button of the video itself. However, as soon as I do this and click or type anything on my computer desktop, the video automatically minimizes and all I'm left with on the TV display is the browser with the initial smaller version of the film playing within it. In the 'View' tab, I've tried switching Firefox/Safari to 'Full screen' before making the video 'Full screen' too, but again, as soon as I touch anything back on my Mac desktop it minimizes. I've noticed Chrome has an 'Enter Presentation Mode' option available in the 'View' tab, which leaves the video playing full screen, but with a grey bar at the top (which is visually annoying, but still closer to what I'm looking for). Similarly, if I try to drag a video file playing in VLC, as soon as I hit the full screen button, the desktop I'm using on the Mac goes black even though I can still move the cursor on it.
I'm clearly missing a step somewhere, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a prolific multitasker!

    Hi _MicMacs_,
It sounds like you've been on the right track in trying to sort out this issue. I'm a bit unclear on what you are describing when you say it works initially, but then immediately reverts when you click back on something in your primary display. You may want to try sizing the window to the display instead of using the full screen option (two opposing diagonal arrows), though this will leave the window border around the screen. For a bit more background on working with multiple displays in Mavericks, you may find the following article helpful:

  • How do I Get Extended display with another monitor?

I connected my iMac to another LCD Display, and i'd like to get both monitors to be extended displays instead of mirror displays. Basically Both monitors are showing the same image, but i would like to have both monitors be extended and not share the same screen, for the main reason of working with Logic Music, and i need more visual space to work with.
My question... How can i do that?
I went to the help, and the help menu said..
1.)Open System Preferences and click Displays.
2.)Click Arrangement and follow the onscreen instructions.
But i don't see Arrangement on my displays window.

    Hi,
    GOT IT !
Hope this helps someone in future....
The Popup Key LOV (Displays description, returns key value), and probably other Popups, automatically create a hidden field for the return value.
My field was P7_CONTACT so htmldb creates a hidden item P7_CONTACT_HIDDENVALUE
    P7_CONTACT.value equals the display text.
    P7_CONTACT_HIDDENVALUE.value equals the ID value.
So, I can access the returned Display name by:
    html_GetElement('P7_CONTACT').value
    Done deal...
    Thanks, Bill :>)

how to disable the extended display mode on imac

I downloaded one of the PDF form (IMM5490) from cic.gc.ca and saved it on my computer after filling it up. Later on the following message popped up when I tried to open the form again later to in order to make some changes.
"This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document"
Your help in this regard will be greatly appreciated, since, I have already filled the form with a lot of information and I will not be able to edit the form with additional information unless I disable the extended features ( I guess).

  • HT5019 How do I get extended display mode on two monitors off a MB?

I've tried to find answers on other threads but no luck. Is it possible to connect two monitors to a 2008 unibody MB (mavericks) to use extended display? I've never had a problem with using one monitor (mini dvi to vga) as an extended display and now I'd like to add a second monitor via a vga splitter. I thought upgrading to mavericks would solve this but no luck. It's only letting me mirror displays. The "arrangement" option in display prefs not available.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I never for one second thought this would be so complicated.

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

  • X61 Extended Display - reconnect issue - Ctrl+F7 is NOT available when I reconnect to monitor

    I use an X61 running XP SP2.
When I am at my desk, I connect the laptop to my 24" monitor via VGA cable.
Via Ctrl+F7, I can modify my display settings and receive options such as:
    - Notebook only
    - Same display
    - Extended display
All of these work fine.  However, just recently, after I disconnect (either using Ctrl+F7 or simply unplugging the VGA connector - both end up with the same result) and later try to re-connect, when I press Ctrl+F7, no menu option appears.
When I go to Control Panel | Display, I can 'see' the monitor is connected and I can 'extend' display to the desktop monitor BUT cannot set-up 'same display' from here.
The only option that works is to restart the system and then Ctrl+F7 works fine again.
I do not believe that I have made any changes to the system that would warrant this change (however, there may have been a recent automatic MS XP update that was loaded).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?  Do I need to update anything related to the system?

Win 7 can't shut down, it reboot PC right after it has shut down!
I've tried the following before and it worked for once only ...
    Step 1:
Try this:  Press (Windows Key) + R (keyboard key) ... the Windows key is between the Ctrl and Alt key. SO press Windows (Start) key + R key to bring up the "RUN" menu.
    Step 2:
In the "RUN" menu, type in "regedit", then press the Enter key
    Step 3:
In the regedit, find and search by this keyword: "PowerdownAfterShutdown" ... it should be located in:
    Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
But once I've tried to manually browse to the above location and couldn't find any "Winlogon" in it, not until I used the find and search feature!
    Step 4:
Double Click on "PowerdownAfterShutdown" to bring up it's entry menu.
    Then,
Change it to "0" if it is "1" OR
Change it to "1" if it is "0".
      I found it's "0" before I changed it to 1.
    And hit the Enter key.
    Step 5:
Then restart the computer. Once it has reboot the PC to Windows' desktop, shut it down again. It should be able to shut down properly now and then ... NEVER!
    Here's how to "NUT" down:
Look for "ShutdownWithoutLogon" in the regedit, set it to "1"
also set "PowerdownAfterShutdown" to "1" as well.
Each time you want to shut down PC, you need to log off first. Then at the log in/off screen, to the bottom right corner there is a SHUT DOWN button, mouse click it to shut down PC! That works for hell !

  • Using my Macbook Pro as an 'extended display' (2ndary monitor) to my G5

My G5 tower looks like it has two DVI connections: one is (30+5) pins and the other is (24+5) pins.
I have a simple ViewSonic monitor connected to this G5 using the (24+5) pins.
I am trying to use my new Macbook Pro as a secondary monitor (extended display to the G5 cpu).
How do I connect the (30+5) pin output from the G5 tower to the (24+5) pin monitor connection on my MacBook Pro? And will this even work? Has anyone tried this?
    Thnks

Correct. I'm not aware of any laptop that has been designed with a DVI or VGA input to allow use of the laptop's display as a monitor for another computer.
(I know someone else will bring this up, so I'll include the info here, but I don't recommend the following solution at all)
The expensive and relatively low-quality (picture-wise) way to work around this would be to buy a FireWire or USB video digitizer and run your desktop's video (as an S-video signal) to the video digitizer, and use your laptop to receive and display the image.

  • Extended display

    Hi,
my PC has 2 monitors in portrait format. I am using extended display mode and if the reading pane of Adobe reader crosses the boundary the display will be garbled:
Interestingly when I hoover over the task bar and menu is open, then Adobe Reader will render correctly for this short time.
Anyone an idea on what the problem is, and how to cure it? I searched for a support form/support email address, didn't find one. This happened to me also on a different PC with Adobe 9 version.

While Acrobat and Adobe Reader don't have full support for multi-monitor systems they normally display OK on an extended desktop, even if crossing the boundary.
Suggest you try turning off 2D graphics acceleration on Reader's preferences > Page display dialog and see if that helps. Beyond that it's difficult to offer much support as it sounds like a graphics compatibility issue, but please log a bug using this form:

  • T440s Extended Display Toggle

My work recently "upgraded" me from an x220 to a t440s.  Based on the trackpad alone, I question whether this is really an upgrade, but there are plenty of other threads for that discussion it appears.
My question, which I cannot seem to find an answer to, is this: How do I get two different programs to show on my notebook screen and my attached external display?  On my old x220, I'd use fn-F7 to "extend display", which appears to be the same as on the new unit; but once I've done that, I can't figure out how to assign different programs to the two screens.  On the x220, it was just fn-space ... is there an equivalent on the t440s?
Thanks in advance for any help, sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I honestly searched for a while.

    Hi Gwfr1g4t,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Dual Display on ThinkPad T440s.
In ThinkPad T440s you have to use the key Fn+F7 to switch the display, or you can also use Windows key+P to toggle the display and check.
    Hope this helps.

How do I move the cursor between screens in extended display? Mine will move to the extended screen but not move back.

Thanks, I think that was the problem. I'm a recent convert from PC and Mac and Windows have different notions of what is intuitive. You actually have to position the screen images on the display system preferences to mimic their actual physical positions.

  • How to extend data viewing for LCHR

    Hi all
I have one field of a table which using LCHR data type. I want to view the whole data in the field. However currently SAP truncated to partial char only for viewing with message "Field Generic structure is too wide to display (field will be truncated)".
Do anyone knows how to extend it?
    Thanks.
    Ala

You have a limitation of 255 characters on every alv that you use to show the results.
So you have to export the data from the database table.
    Let's try to explain:
You have a database table with 2 fields (e.g.)
LENT TYPE INT2 (2 Byte Integer (Signed)), this field itis used for save the length of the LCHR field
ERROR_MESSAGE TYPE SMO_1500 LCHR (character 1500), this field it's used for save the string value with 1500 character.
You can't read this data with the TCODE SE16 or SE16N or SE11, because exist a limitation of 255 character on ALV tables.
Create a report like that to export the data to a file:
      SELECT *
         FROM zsrm_wlu_004
         INTO TABLE lt_zsrm_wlu_004
        WHERE wi IN s_wi AND
              ano IN s_ano AND
              wi_aagent IN s_agent .
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'
         EXPORTING
           filename                        = p_file_download
          filetype                        = 'ASC'

  • How to extend the range of my Airport Extreme network by adding an Airport Express

How to extend the range of my Airport Extreme network by adding an Airport Express?

You have to make sure that the AirPort Express is in Factory Default Settings. If it is straight out of the box, it is ready to be configured.
The instructions that I will provide are for using AirPort Utility 6.0, which you have.
Locate the Express in the same room as the AirPort Extreme for the configuration. Power it up and allow a full minute for the Express to display a blinking amber light.
Make sure that the wireless is turned on your Mac
Open AirPort Utility 6.0 and look at the small rectangle in the upper left hand corner of the display. It should now read something like "Other AirPort Base Stations (1)"
Click on the rectangle, and then click on the AirPort Express xxxxxx listing
AirPort Utility will take a minute or two to analyze the settings on your network and then suggest that  the Express be configured to "Extend" your wireless network.
Edit the Base Station name to your liking, then click Next in the lower right hand corner
Allow a full minute or two let AirPort Utility do its work
When you see Setup Complete, click Done at the lower right of the window.
Now move the AirPort Express to a location that is approximately half way between the AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more wireless coverage.
    You should be in business.
