How to extend time before sleep mode initiates ?

I just want to change the timing before it goes to sleep so the screen stays active whiteout me putting in input of some kind.  My computer times out very quickly while I'm doing work so I then have to login when I go back to use it. It doesn't last longer than a couple of minutes (if that). I just got this MacBook Air and am unfamiliar with MacBooks. Sorry if it is something easy.

The display dim after time or sleep mode.
How do I get brightness back without having to reboot?

    Hi,
To do a safe BIOS update, do this:
    1) shut down Windows completely (dont enter hibernation or suspend)
    2) turn on the notebook to do a cold boot, then download the new BIOS Update from the Toshiba website or via service station.
    3) turn off your Antivirus software temporarily
    4) run the EXE file you downloaded or run the service station update, the BIOS will be flashed in Windows.
    5) Shut down and reboot again, enable the antivirus.

Regards,That's a very new term and AFAIK, there is no such term within Oracle. The data doesn't need to be active or inactive. Its just there when the database comes up and as long as you don't access it, it just stays there. What you can do is either to make the tablespace offline so that the data is not accessible at all or make it read only so that its not modifiable at all.
But still, as Pierre asked, you may want to tell us exactly what you want to do.

  • How to adjust time before Mac sleeps?

I recently started with Mountain Lion and can't find a way to set the amount of time before the computer goes to sleep.
I looked in System Preferences -> Energy Saver  and it has a slider to set the time before turning off the display and a box to keep the computer from sleeping but nothing to set the time before it sleeps?
I'd like to know when my computer will go to sleep and sometimes I may have it doing something like copying a large amount of data from one drive to another or running a batch process and a large number of photographs where I need the computer up and running for a few hours.
Is it possible to adjust the time before the Mac sleeps in Mountain Lion?  I used to do it in Leopard and Snow Leopard.

Hi Eric.  No, it doesn't look like that.  It looks like this (attached screen shot).
    I'm using OSX 10.8.5

  • How to have time capsule sleep when not in use

Is there any way to have my time capsule sleep (stop spinning ) when not in use? it runs constantly and gets warm. I need to find out how to make it idle and wake up when my Mac calls for a backup. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how to do it? I have the time capsule connected to a router off of a cable modem. Thanks to all

Is there any way to have my time capsule sleep (stop spinning ) when not in use?
Does the disk spin up and down continually? Or is it just spinning non-stop?
What model is the TC? Please give the A1xxx model from the rubber base mat.. and size of the hard disk.
Did you update to the latest firmware? When did the problem start, ie did it correspond with firmware update?
Have you played with it.. replaced the drive etc? If this is stock standard it should spin down almost immediately disk access finishes.

  • How do I get full sleep mode back in Mavericks?

With the release of Mavericks full sleep has vanished. All "sleep" does now is turn the monitor(s) off. The external hard drive remains powered up, the external USB sound card's activity light remains on, the fan continues to blow hot air indicating that the processor has not gone to low power and the power LED remains constant and fully light. In ML everything used to power down and the power LED would pulsate. Does anyone know how to get full sleep back? Thanks.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved. Note that, as stated in the article, the computerwill not sleep if Internet Sharing is enabled.
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
    Step 3
    Select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth ▹ Advanced...
    and uncheck both boxes marked
Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if...
    Step 4
    Reset the SMC.
    Step 5
Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 6
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 7
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • How to extend Time Capsule using ethernet

I've a Time Capsule serving my wireless network. Currently I have a AirPort Express where the chosen wireless mode is: Extend a wireless network. This setup is working fine.
I'm wondering if it is possible to connect an ethernet cable from the Time Capsule to the AirPort Express, and extend the wired signal? Currently the AirPort Express is receiving the signal wirelessly and extending it wirelessly.

Ethernet is the better way to do this if you can run the cable since it preserves maximum bandwidth on the network.
You'll need to configure the Express to "create a wireless network" (not "extend" as you might think) using the same wireless network name, security and password as the Time Capsule. The Express must be configured in Bridge Mode as well for this to work correctly.
Post back if you need more details about this type of "roaming" network configuration.

  • How to extend time capsule wifi range

I have recently purchasd a Time Capsule 4th Generation 2TB, hoping it would provide better wifi network all over my house. We live in a 2 story concrete building. It is not possible to connect both the floors with ethernet ( CAT 3 ) cables. I have my old wifi router D-Link DIR-300. Is there a way i can use DIR-300 to extend my wifi range.
    Ground floor - Time Capsule
    First Floor - DIR 300
Note: I do get a poor signal on the first floor on my MBP but my I phone 4 and I pad ( first Generation ) does not recieve any signal.
Since i already own a wireless router i did not want to spend on the airport express for the same purpose.
If anyone can help me connecting DIR-300 to TC to improve the network range.

I have my old wifi router D-Link DIR-300. Is there a way i can use DIR-300 to extend my wifi range.
Unfortunately, this would not be possible if you plan to connect the D-Link device to the Time Capsule using wireless only, since Apple and D-Link products are not compatible for this purpose.
If you can connect the D-Link to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection, it would be possible to configure the D-Link to provide additional wireless coverage that way.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters might be able to send an "Ethernet" signal over the existing AC powerlines in your home.
In other words, you already have the wiring in place....you just need the adapters.
Unfortunately again....the Ethernet powerline adapters will likely be about the same cost as an AirPort Express. Since you note that you live in a concrete building....the adapters might be first choice over a wireless only setup.
In either case, you will not know how well the setup will work until you try. For that reason, it would be a good idea to have a good understanding of the store's return policy in case things do not work out as expected.

  • How to extend time on imported still

I imported a still I created in Photoshop. I want to extend the amount of time it lasts after I placed it on the timeline. I tried creating a still from it, but the quality suffered. Is there a way to stretch it while on the timeline? Thanks.

Go to the View menu and uncheck Show Clip Volume Levels. Then in timeline view put your cursor on the edge of the still clip. The cursor will morph into another shape. Drag the edge of the clip to the right or left to lenghten or shorten it.
Another way is to control click on the still clip, and in the drop down menu select Show Info. In the time box, change the duration to lengthen or shorten the clip.

    Hi Denis88,
I see by your post that the printer isn't going into sleep mode.
I can help you with this issue.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)

  • Finder crashes with External Drive on Sleep Mode

I purchased my new iMac 21,5" less than a week ago, and I haven't had a problem with it except for one that it's been bugging me a lot.
I have a LaCie 1TB Quadra d2 external drive that I use to store footage (since it's HD, the filesize won't fit in my 500TB internal hard drive), but I noticed that sometimes when LaCie external drive enters in Sleep Mode, the Finder freezes and the only two ways around this, is to force reboot, because the Finder won't answer and won't open again, or unplugging the external drive without ejecting him first, which it's not safe for me to do, because I'm afraid of hurting the device, and the files in it are pretty important.
This happens almost everytime, especially after a long time on sleep mode. I usually leave Final Cut Pro transferring files all night (since it takes a long time) so I kinda need the sleep mode, but when I wake up, Finder and Final Cut Pro won't answer.
I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on day one. Is there a way to fix this? Is it normal? I read somewhere that some users were having trouble with external drives on Sleep Mode, but I can't seem to find any further information about this problem.
    Thanks!

I've got a MacBook Pro 13.3" that's a little over a month old, with a LaCie 1TB LaCie d2 Quadra with USB 3.0, #301542U and I'm suffering the same problems and a few others with it. I've got a partition on it set up as my Time Machine backup drive. I've turned off the Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible in the Energy Saver preferences but I'm still having the sleep problem with it. According to the LaCie Manual:
By default, your drive will enter Eco Mode after 30 minutes of inactivity in order to conserve energy. To exit Eco Mode, simply access data on the drive and the disk will automatically restart. You can manage this feature using LaCie Desktop Manager. Click the Eco tab.
The LaCie Desktop Manager (in my case) only takes me to the Energy Saver Preferences in OS X to adjust the time there. Turning off Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible doesn't seem to make any difference, the drive still goes to sleep after 30 minutes. However, after 15 minutes the drive seems to wake back up, but then during the next 15 minutes goes comatose (no power light). Sometimes it will go through multiples of these sleep wake cycles without going into a coma, but eventually it does go into a coma. This happens in between hourly Time Machine backups.
After locking up Finder, Disk Utility and Time Machine multiple times trying to access the drive in this state I figured out that I could cycle the power switch to regain use of it (with a Finder warning of course) but this will only lead to file corruption eventually and I shouldn't have to resort to this. I've also dismounted it, expecting it to turn off and instead it goes into an extended spin down cycle (rapidly flashing light) and never turns off (or goes to sleep or what ever it's supposed to do) and once again requires turning the power switch off.
This is just too unpredictible and unrelable for me and as soon as I get the opportunity to do a 7 pass erase I'll be returning to the place of purchase. Based on the reviews of other external hard drives a drive from another company doesn't look to be much better of a prospect so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

  • Sleep Mode Not Available

After Windows 10 clean installation my notebook dosn't sleep when I close lid & dowsn't wake when I open.Even there is no sleep option in startmenu>power. And the screen doesn't turn off after selected inactivity time period, instead it just turns black. How can I get back sleep mode?

I had a similar problem after upgrading my Pavillion m6 Notebook. Windows 10 installed smoothly and it looked and work really great until I closed the lid. When I opened it again, I saw a blue screen and rotating dots that went on for hours. After a total of 9 hours working with Microsoft tech support, we concluded that my Intel graphic driver HD 4000 was most likely the culprit, as it had previously caused occasional RAM failures. Looking back at the Win 10 installation log, I saw that a more current driver was chosen by the utility out of Microsoft's own library. It was obviously not compatible, probably because the Intel driver was customized by HP and needs to be replaced by a custom driver. I actually found a more current HP driver yesterday, but I'm not certain that it will work and I don't want to go through the ordeal of rolling back to Win 7. The option of going back to a previous OS build after installing Windows 10 is only available for 28 days, so keep that in mind. The bottom line here is that it's best to wait and see if other users have successfully upgraded a similar machine. You might want to check all of your drivers as well. I assume you know how to boot into safe mode to see what you have going on at the moment.
