How to extract Material Classification into BW ?

Hi All
I want to create datasource to extract material classification into BW
I made research into this forum
Lot of post speak about Tcode CTBW but I didn't find a method to implement it
Does somebody can help me with explanations on this Tcode or another method to create the datasource ?

Hi,
you can´t delete materials on the R/3 side. It can be only archivated, if you don´t need it any more. You lost the archivated material if you delete the master data for 0MATERIAL (or another infoobject you use) on BW side and you make a full upload for master data from R/3. There is no update field for archivation.

How to extract a shema into a diagram?

I am currently responsible for the database that has been in production for a long time but there is very little document about it. (It's been developed and managed by different people who are no longer in the job). In order to understand the current schema with all relations, its constraints and dependencies, I want to extract the schema into a diagram which shows all the detailed above.
Could anyone please give me an idea or suggestion on how to do this? Someone recommended me to use Visio with the option "Reverse Engineer" to do this work. Is it workable and reliable?

You said creating a time charactristic type of length 6, do you mean to say a chacteristic of type number with lenght 6 (same as in 0CALWEEK). The next doubt is if i creat atributes FROM and TO date then, do i need to write any routine to specify that the Week Number falls in between from and to date.
As you said you have the same scenario, can you just provide me some more clear input on this.

How to extract Oracle data into Excel file?

For a small automation project I have to extract data from a table/
tables and append it to the existing excel file and feed that excel
file to a command that will load data into some other environment. I
am totally new to this. So to get started I wanted to know,
1) How to extract data from sample table Foo which has columns A,B,C
and append these values as new columns to an existing excel say
fooresults.csv ?
2) Can I achieve this in pl/sql script or do I need to write unix or
perl script or some other programing language, please advise?

The "extract data from a table" part is easy, you could do that with VB/ADO, or .NET/ODP.NET. It's then a matter of taking that data and appending it to a spreadsheet that might be the hard part, and how you'd do that exactly is really more of a Microsoft question than an Oracle one.
If you want to be able to do this from the database itself and your database is on Windows, you could use either [.NET Stored Procedures|http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/dotnet/ode/index.html] if you can manipulate the spreadsheet in .net code, or you could also use Oracle's [COM Automation Feature|http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/windows/com_auto/index.html] if you're handy with the COM object model for Excel.
How you'd do that exactly via either .net or com or vb is the crux of the problem and is something you'd need to know before it turns into an Oracle question, but if you already know how to do that and now just need to figure out a way to do that from Oracle, either of the above might help.

How to extract PDF files into the directory the PDF file is located in.

I use Adobe Acrobat to extract all the pages within a single PDF file to single page PDF files. However the steps are long, as the path to a directory where i wish to extract is thru the net work and the default location for Adobe is to my C:Drive... So I have to Browse the path to extract to Which can be between 10 and 15 steps depending on the job folders. Most programs when you extract, the default path is usually where the file location is, with an option to change the path.. makes sense and is very easy.
So without making a short cut(because the path constantly changes depending on the jobs). How do I extract directly to the folder that the PDF file is in? Example, when you extract a zip file, its default location is right there where the zip file is in. Quite simple and logical.

Thanks Gilad, but that does not make the task easier. The path always changes as the files are being organized into folders. Its kind of sad that $400 software can't do what most free ware can do. Extract itself into the folder it is sitting in.

How to extract Cognos Data into Business Objects?

Hi All,
I would like to know whether anyway to pull Cognos data into Business Objects?
1. Pull data thru Universe from Cognos Cubes?
2. Pull data using Crystal reports from Cognos Cubes?
3. Or any otehr method of pulling data from Cognos Cubes?
If nothing is possible I would have to explore using the RDBMS Tables to build Universe, WebI and then present in Xcelsius. Anybody is aware of getting data from Cognos?

Cognos Reporting on SAP BI data
We need to create a new project to import the structure of the SAP BI cube or Multiprovider.
Enter User ID and password.
Click on OK
It will ask you to enter the User ID and password again. After enter the User ID and password it will ask you to select the language.
Then it will ask you to select the metadata source, select the Data source as shown in below fig. and click next.
Select the data Source as shown in below.
Here we are planning to import SAP BW cube so we have to select SAP BW and click on next.
Select sign on and Click on OK.
Here we have to select our desired cube or multiprovider and click next.
Now we have to select the language again.
Here Cognos is giving the flexibility to use different options when importing cube structures.
Here I am selecting to use the technical name of the objects and to bring same model as it is in SAP BI.
Finally it will show list of all objects which are imported from SAP BI.
When you click on finish it will take to the frame work manager. There you will see the SAP BI Cube Structure.
Now it is exactly imported like SAP BW extended star schema model.
Here you can compare the technical names of the dimensions in both in Cognos and SAP BI is same.

Here I am comparing the values of the info Objects with in one dimension.

If there are any hierarchies in BI, it will form separately as shown in below fig.
When you open the main object of Program definition, we will find 3 objects under this.
It is always recommendable to use Level 01 objects.
This is how it looks when you open all the above 3 objects. You can use any of those depends on your report requirement.
When you open the info object if you see number of different items, that means this info object has got attributes in it.
0COMP_CODE is the technical name of the info object in BI.
In Cognos if it technical name starts with 1  Short Text of the Info Object.
                                                                   2  Key of the Info Object.
                                                                   4  Long Text of the Info Object.
                                                         5  Medium Text of the Info Object.
LELEL00  Is Summarized values.
LEVEL01  Is Item level values of Info Object.
Once you see this in bw/bi environment, i hope you know how to gather and use it in BOBJ environment !!

How to read Material classification/characteristics

Dear all,
I have to read the characteristic values belonging to a material.
I found some threads about BAPI BAPI_OBJCL_GETDETAIL_KEY and BAPI_OBJCL_GETDETAIL but I don´t know how to call them.
First Question: Is this the right way/function to read the characteristics from one material? If no what is the "right" way?
Second Question: How to call this beast for one material?

The key here is the parameter <b>objecttable_imp</b>
This parameter should be the Key Master table of the object.
Since this is Material Master it is MARA for Customer 'KNA1' and so on.

How to change material classification for class type 023

Hi Expert,
I want to change class ZSK_EXPIRY_DATE to ZSKK_GR_DATE under class type 023 in classfication tab (MM02). Understand that the same class also assigned to material and batch in MSC3N. So i'm sure it's not as easy asdo the direct change in CL20N. Can i anyone please guide me step by step to change it? What is the pre-requisite and the impact of the change that i have to care of..

Hi Crystal,
You consume all the materials created with the earlier batch classification and then try to change it. or keep the assinged class and then create your new required class and then assign the new class to the material in classification view and start using the new one.

How to extract image keywords into a database?

We want to use Bridge to add keywords to image files, then upload the images (around 3,000 of them) to our website. We then need to extract the keywords (which seems to be the tricky part) into a database but still link them to the images so the images can be searched by keyword. We also need to create three smaller resolution versions of each image, but this seems to be less of a problem than extracting and using the keywords. Does anyone have experience of implementing such functionality or have any suggestions?

I don't think this is possible (I know it can't be done in Bridge itself) but you might try this question in the dedicated Bridge Scripting forum for a possible solution. I believe extracting keywords in an excel sheet is possible, the other problem might be trickier.

Extracting material classification data for given sales order

Requirement is I Need to display a report with material and its characteristics values for given sales order. Please let me know if there is any FM/standard tables involved to display the below fields.

I did a search before posting, I got an FM which is we cannot use due to performance issue.
Thanks for letting me know that sales order has material and material has characteristics,
But For each characteristics that material has we will have several values, you will be selecting whichever is appropriate based on the requirement.
If you know the answer pleases post. I have enough patience to wait for answers from other experts.

Material Classification Data extraction fron ECC

Hello Experts,
We are trying to extract material classification data from ECC 6.0 to MDM 7.1 using mdmgx T-Code. We are using the standard SAP list of tables which is uploaded in MDMGX. On performing 'Start Extraction' it gives us the following errors:
Class and characteristics info returned is blank
Blank XML returned for port LT_ClassAttributes
Class and characteristics info returned is blank
Blank XML returned for port LT_Classes

I think rather than class type there should be Class Name e.g.

One of the <ClassHierarchies> should not have ParentClass because there must be one class which is parent of all classes e.g. here ZPARENT
You should check that may be 001 is here also defined as class-name not class type. I would also say check do you have other ParentClass as Class name or not, except 001. Try to import this data in the manner as shown in MDM import Manager Reference Guide page 162 onwards using Create Hierarchy, after import check with business/functional consultant. Please have a look into it,

If you want to download the displayed list in the Excel file,then at the time when the list is displayed on the screen, you can go to System option on the menu bar,from there go to List and then Save.You will get a pop up which shows you all the formats of download available.Select the one you want to and mention the target path of the file on the Presentation server.
Secondly,you can use the T-codes "CG3Y" to download the data from the Application Server to the Presentation Server and T-code "CG3Z" for vice-versa.
Or else you can use any of the FMs to first download the ABAP list to the ASCII or the BIN format and then convert it to excel using the FM "SAP_CONVERT_TO_XLS_FORMAT" or "TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP

Class selection in Material Classification Datasource

I need to extract material classification from R/3 to BW. For this I generated a 1CL* datasource in transaction CTBW. As part of the datasource configuration I selected the Class type (001 in this case) and the characteristic objects to be extracted (for example, COLOR, SIZE, etc.). I have an additional requirement that is to select the Class from which the characteristic value is to be read (R/3 configuration is so that the same characteristic can be part of several different classes. For example, SIZE can be part of 'Ingrediends materials' and 'Packaging materials' classes).
As far as I know, this is not possible because BW doesn't have the 'Class' level value for selection in the materia classification datasource, only the object level value. Is there a standard way to have the 'Class' filtered in the datasource generated with CTBW transaction?. Thank you.

We came to the conclussion that it is not necessary to worry about the Class when extracting data to BW. Although it is possible to have one characteristic included in several classes in R/3, when a value is assigned to a material, the value is unique. Check the assignment of those values is saved in table AUSP in R/3 where the class is not part of the key, only the Class Type. This means that one material code is going to have always only one value for the characteristic despite of the class/classes it is included in. So, don't have to worry about the class when extracting data to BW. Hope this helps.
