How to extract Subtitles from DVD using Snow Leopard?

Hey there,
this may be off-topic, but I don't know where to ask. Anyone know how I can extract Subtitltes and create an .srt File from a Movie DVD using Snow Leopard?

I too have been looking diligently for something I can use to glean .srt files from DVD's.  Secondarily, .sub/.idx files.  I didn't quite realize how much software would be made useless by my shift to Lion.  Amazing amounts!
Is there any other product, commercial or otherwise that is known to accomplish this task?
If one is found, please update the discussion here!  Thanks.

Mail application is still there. All of my emails and folders are gone since iCloud. How can I get them back using Snow Leopard? Or can I? Do I have to wait for Mountain Lion?

I need to check a few other things...
Click on 'Mail' in the upper left corner next to the Apple ()
    Click Preferences
    Click the 'Accounts' tab
Make sure your iCloud account is highlighted in the column on the left.
In the account information section what does it say next to:
    Incoming Mail Server?
    Outgoing Mail Server?
Also, did you use MobileMe before the iCloud?

How can I upgrade from OS X Snow Leopard to OS X Lion?

Well Mt Lion is the latest, but if your machine can't do 10.8, then call Apple via phone and order 10.7
However you really need to do your homework first, as a lot of software and drivers could stop in 10.7, no Rosetta like in 10.6, could cost you plenty.
Things to consider before upgrading OS X

Thanks for the information!  My sister gave me the MBP for my daughter with Leopard installed.  I purchased Snow Leopard and installed it, then my daughter purchased Lion.  So I do have all the installers.  If iWork wasn't included with any of those, I guess my sister purchased it while running Leopard.  I'll have to contact her.  Thanks again.

  • How can I downgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard?

    Hello.
Yesterday, I upgraded my Mac to Mac OS X (10.7 Lion) from 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. However, I wish to downgrade.
Obviously, I would like to not lose any data at all. However, I have never downgraded before.
I still have the Snow Leopard installation disk that came with my Mac.
How should I do this? I was thinking it would be easiest to simply head on over to an Apple Store...
I did some research (aka Googling), and I read up on the subject quite a bit.
If I simply put in the disk, will I be able to downgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard as easily as the upgrade was?
Also, I have heard about holding down the "C" button to do this... how exactly?
I have never backed up my Mac, nor used Time Machine.
Also, is it possible to install Snow Leopard on a separate disk, and set it up so that I can switch between them on command?
Will all of my preferences be saved, or does this wipe everything, not just the system and libraries folders?
I realize that I have a lot of questions, and therefore I appreciate everyone's help in advance. Thanks again.
    Sincerely, Zach

    Backup your files.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert Snow Leopard Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
    4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
    5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
    Erase Drive
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Upon completion quit DU and return to installer. Install Snow Leopard. Restore your files after the installation has completed.

  • How to setup airport extreme A1034 using snow leopard?

I bought a used Airport Extreme A1034 and, barring that it is not broken, am I able to set it up as wireless base station?  I am using snow leopard, I currently use an airport express as a wireless router.  I cannot get the airport extreme to appear in my airport utility wirelessly.  It will appear in the airport utility if it is connect to my Mac via ethernet, but when I go to save the settings and the device goes to reseet, it just does not come back online.  I have done numerous factory default resets.  Any advice?

Please check out the following Apple Support article on how to configure a WDS.

  • How do I upgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard?

Snow Leopard has this great feature called Expose which is a great improvement on Lion's App Expose (and Mission Control).
Can someone point me to the steps I need to take to upgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard?

Written just for you (ok it's a paste)
Back to Snow Leopard from Lion install method
Read and print out these instructions, your computer is going to be offline and you wil be cutoff from help until your machine is restored.
Clear the Desktop, Downloads and Trash of anything you wish to keep by placing their files in the respective Documents, Music, Pictures, Movie folders.
Disconnect other drives except the backup drive as to avoid any mistake.
Backup ALL your Users folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music etc) manually (drag and drop methods) to a (not TimeMachine) external powered drive (HFS+ journaled formatted in Disk Utility) and disconnect, your going to be wiping the entire disk of ALL DATA. (warning, everything will be gone and not recovered, OS, programs, files, Windows etc all gone.)
Note: You might want to hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk and use Disk Utility to format the new blank external drive instead of using OS X Lion that's hosed. Then reboot into Lion and copy files, be safer that way perhaps.
    Here we go!
Hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk that comes with your computer and second screen in just STOP there, don't install OS X yet.
Look at the Utilities Menu for Disk Utility.
On the left is the name of your hard drive maker, click it and Erase (format HFS+ Journaled), give it the same drive name as before, and click Erase...
(note: if you want to "scrub" the drive of old files that haven't been overwritten yet, then use the Security Option > Zero Erase, takes a lot longer)
This should wipe the drive of ALL partitions (GUID, OS X and 10.7 Recovery, Windows if present)
When it's done, quit and install OS X 10.6. Then install all your programs from fresh sources and validate/update.
When you setup a first account, use the same user name as before, this way you can simply drag and drop the content of your previous Users folders from the external drive right back into the new Users folders and everything should work peachy. Links in iTunes to music, playlists and iPhoto links especially.
Update OS X to 10.6.8 using the Combo Update for best results.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
(Note: If your original machine had 10.5 and you want the free iLife that comes with the disks with the computer, then you'll have to install 10.5 first using the same c boot/erase/format methods as above, then update to 10.6 via the disk, then Combo Update 10.6.8)
Final step optional but highly recommended.
A lot of people use a Carbon Copy Clone of their boot drive to a new HFS+Journaled external drive (used only for this purpose) as a "hold the option key" bootable backup in case something goes wrong with their boot drive or need to restore to a previous OS X version..  (in addition to TimeMachine drive for more immediate backups.)
It's not advised to have a Bootable Clone and a TimeMachine partition on the same external drive, as two drives gives hardware protection in case one fails.

  • How can I upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard wihout violating EULA while Mac Box Set is no longer available?

I use my original Tiger bought with MacBook Pro. But now so many applications do not support Tiger, so I decided to upgrade to SL.
But required by Apple way to do this with Mac Box Set seems to be impossible. Mac Box Set is no longer available from Apple.
Is upgrading using Snow Leopard disc, which is still in Apple Store, ok?
I will be gratefull for help.

The Mac Box Set includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife ’09 and iWork ’09. If you just use the SL installer, you don't get the additional apps.
    Read this article.
Installing Snow Leopard: What you need to know
    http://www.macworld.com/article/142454/2009/08/install_snow_leopard.html
The Snow Leopard box set is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). You may also find a box set on eBay.
It's possible that some of your current apps may not work in Snow Leopard. You can check here: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Application Compatibility List at http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

  • How do I upgrade from tiger to snow leopard

I have a 2007 intel based mac book pro 15" that I have not used in a number of years.  I want to get it up and running again and right now I have OS X 10.4.11 Tiger.  I want to get the newest OS version I can possibly get while upgrading from Tiger 10.4.11. Please help.

    ekernan,
you’ll need to purchase the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, install it, and run Software Update to get it to 10.6.8. Once there, you can upgrade to Mavericks if your MacBook Pro meets its other requirements.

  • How To Transfer Files From Panther to Snow Leopard

I have a new MacBook with Snow Leopard.
    G4 Powerbook with Panther.
Migration assistant does not recognize Panther.
Does anyone know the best way to get files (music, pictures, some docs) off of the Panther and into the Snow Leopard?
    THANK YOU!

you can boot the powerbook in target mode. reboot and hold "t" at the chime. then connect it by a firewire cable to the macbook. the PB should show up as a mounted external drive on the MB. in Migration Assistant select to migrate from a hard drive or TM backup, not from another computer. see if migration assistant recognizes PB then. if it doesn't at least you have it mounted as an external and can copy what you need by hand. also be aware that using Migration Assistant to migrate from PPC to intel may lead to some problems even though it works well for most people

  • How do i downgrade from mavericks to snow leopard

I have been having a very difficult time with mavericks and would like to do a clean factory restore on my MacBook. I have the disks that came with my device which are Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD, MacBook Applications Install DVD and the iWorks DVD. I have tried multiple times to erase my drive and do a clean install but for some reason the Applications Install DVD will not load. It keeps giving me error messages. I have also attempted to install any updates that might be available for Mac OS X Snow Leopard and again I receive error messages telling me that the updates can not be installed.
I can get to the point to where Snow Leopard loads, but I am missing many of my programs such as App Store, GarageBand, iMovie, etc that originally came installed on my machine.
Can someone please walk me through how to do this?
    All help would be appriciated.
    Thanks,
    Selena

  • How do I downgrade from Mavericks to Snow Leopard and save my new pages files?

Unfortunately, the Mavericks system isn't working for me. It's way too slow, has issues with Finder and so on. Basically it's just a pain in my *** and my
beloved Mac Book Unibody (2010) just can't handle it! After searching for hours online for a solution, I'd love to get back to the good old times.
I read that I can downgrade to Snow Leopard with my latest TM backup, using the recovery mode. Problem is that I "upgraded" sometime in October, so I have accumulated a bunch of new files. Being a teacher, I have tons of documents and Apple unfortunately changed all the old '09 files into '13 ones. Will they still work under the new old system, or do I have to find some way to export them into '09 files?
Is it fine to use the TM backup, or is it better to use ds store's method to recover the system?
    Thanks

I backed up the system just prior to upgrading.

  • How to get dock from Tiger into Snow Leopard?

Hi all, I've searched many Dock offerings & can't find the original Dock from Tiger, (see example, below) which, my friend, so wants for Snow Leopard.
Not a sophisticated user, so, playing with code is too scary...although he might venture to copy & paste a line or two into Terminal, if need be.
    Thank you.
    k

You're not going to do it by pasting "a line or two into terminal"
You can change from the 3d appearance to a flat appearance with utilities like Onyx and Tinkertool.  And if you do a search on macupdate with the term "dock" among the "noise" there may be some prospects.  Here's a couple (have no idea if they are what you are looking for though):
    New Dock
    Flat Dock

  • How to publish from iweb using snow leopard

    Hi,
Having had my iMac for some 4.5 years I finally have a real reason to use iweb and now can't work out how to publish from it.
I only have a mobile me option come up when I click the publish option. My mobile me account was deactivated some time ago and reactivation is not an option. I can't see any other option for publishing. Is there one or have I missed my chance?
Has anybody faced the same problem and found a solution?
    Thanks,

What version of iWeb are you using?  iWeb 09 or 08?
If using 08, then you'll need to select publish to a local folder and use Cyberduck or FileZilla or Transmit to upload your site to another server.
If using iWeb 09, then select your site name and a drop down menu should appear that has 3 options - publish to MobileMe, publish to ftp and then publish to a local folder.  You either need to select publish to ftp or local folder to upload your site to another sever.  This is what you will need to do anyway come the end of June when MME will be no longer.
    Find a new host now.
