How to factory reset my hp dv4-2169nr after i manually format the hard drive?????

Boot from a Windows 7 system repair disc, load command prompt and use diskpart to mark the recovery partition as "active", then restart the PC, it should boot into the recovery partition and load recovery manager.

About all you can do is wait until it finishes or you get an error message.

  • How much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on?

This may be a really dumb question, but how much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on if all your video files, assets, disk cache, etc are on different drives than the one the program itself is installed on?
The reason I am asking is that I currently have a "relatively" slow Sata II SSD for my C drive that has just my OS (windows 7 64bit) and programs (adobe editing programs, no games) installed on it and nothing else. All of the files used in my projects are saved on either a very fast Sata III SSD or a slower HDD depending on what the files are. For example, disk cache on the Sata III, stills on the HDD.
Being cyber monday I have the opportunity to buy another very fast Sata III SSD to replace my current Sata II SSD C Drive (just OS and programs). Both synthetic and real world benchmarks show a near double in performance. I just want to know if anyone thinks the upgrade is even worth it because for all I know there won't be any increase in performance since no videos, still, cach, etc will be stored on the C Drive.
The alternative is to get a second monitor because I currently only use one 21" monitor.
I suppose another alternative would be to not buy anything on the cyber monday deals and just save money for something else.
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Alex! I think you are right about not being able to notice the difference between the SSDs. I ended up finding a deal to get about $80 off a great monitor that I've been looking at for a while and decided to pull the trigger on it. I thought about it and realized that there have already been a bunch of times where I want to watch a tutorial on youtube and follow allong in AE or PrePro, but have to keep switching windows. I also frequently want to have my video preview on a separate monitor so I can have a taller timeline window. This monitor will help a lot with that. Thanks again for your help!

  • How do I install lion and format the hard drive?

How do I install lion and format the hard drive, as though this was a new mac.

If your Mac is a 2011 model and originally came with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple then you can use the Internet Recovery HD system to Wipe/Erase the Complete drive and Re-Install Lion.
If it is an older model, even and early 2011 model, that did NOT come with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple you can not sell or give it away with Lion installed on it. You have to install the original version of OS X on it.

Snow Leopard would have needed to be installed on a properly formatted drive, so I don't understand why you would need to format it again to that same format.

  • How can I reset/override a forgotten password for Time Machine back up hard drive?

I have a g-drive slim but can't remember the password because I haven't used it in a long time. Checked g-drive website and it wasn't very helpful:

Also checked Apple Support for Time Machine and nothing on how to reset/override.

    Hi Vitamin A,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are talking about an issue with an encrypted backup, there may not be a way to override the password:
You need your backup password to restore files from Time Machine backups. If you forget your backup password, Time Machine can’t use the backups.

  • How do I create an account from a home folder already on the hard drive?

I did the archive and install option after my Microsoft Office starting acting up. Unfortunately, it had an error about half way through, leaving my old accounts under the "Previous Systems" folder without migrating them. I managed to do a fresh install of Tiger on the drive, and can see the user folder fine.
How do I take that user's folder and create an account out of it? The migration assistant doesn't see it because it is on the same volume. Can I just drag the folder to the "users" folder on Machintosh HD?

  • How can I get iTunes to re-locate my media content on the hard drive, after a failed attempt at copying the library to an external drive?

Long story short, I attempted to use an external drive to house my iTunes library to relieve some storage space on my MBP hard drive.  The external drive was formatted as FAT32 and it got hung up on an HD movie in excess of 4GB in size.  I had to reformat the external drive as MacOS Extended (Journaled) to solve that problem....but then the bigger issue showed up....
While reformatting the external drive I switched iTunes back to the original library location on my local hard drive.  Unfortunately, iTunes doesn't recognize all of my content that did manage to get copied to my external drive in the first attempt to transfer content to that external drive.  Nearly 2200 files have exclamation points next to them.  Here is my question:  Can I get iTunes to re-locate all of my content at once in the original iTunes files on my local drive without having to "locate" each of the 2200 files one at a time??
    HELP!

try if this script works for you:
    iTunes Track CPR v1.3
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • How do I format the hard drive on my Imac without losing the applications etc?

I am fairly new to mac computers. and was wondering if there is anyone out there who could help. I have an Imac running Snow Leopard which is becoming very slow in starting up. I want to format the hard drive but still want to retain the applications etc already on the Imac. Can I just time machine the computer then insert thte OS disk which will format the hard drive? Will this give me a better start up time?
    Many thanks in advance.

If you format the hard drive, you'll lose all your data. You can make a Time Machine backup, format the disk and restore from the backup only what you need

  • How to reinstall Tiger after formatting the hard drive

Hey folks, I think this is a common question but I haven't been able to find a solution to it after researching through the forums and google.
The situation is I've recently bought a second hand mac online. It was previously a ex-lease so the seller had formatted the whole system/hard disk, so I need to reinstall the OS.
The seller unfortunately didn't include the reinstallation disks so I'm using the disks from my Mac. My mac is iMac 20" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz/2GB/250GB/ATI Radeon X1600(256) and the installation disk is for Mac OS X 10.4.7.- Could this be the problem? That the OS on the installation disk is too new for the mac?
Here are the specs for the second hand Mac:
iMac G5 (no iSight) 1.8ghz, 1gb ram, 80 hdd, dvd-rw, geforce fx 5200 graphics card, onboard modem., etc.
I've tried rebooting the disk by holding "c" or "command" at start up and it recognises the disk but it doesnt proceed to the utility page that is mentioned in other solutions.
Instead it comes up with a error message saying:

    Hi monkee_appelz!
If you call Apple Customer Service 1-800-767-2775, and provide the serial number of the iMac, you may be able to purchase replacement original system discs.
However, those will be for the version of OS, that was pre-installed when manufactured.
But, they will contain the bundled software, that is not included in a Full Retail Version, of a newer OS X. The Apple Hardware Test, specific to the iMac model, will also be included.
If the 80 GB HD is original, your model is the 17" iMac G5/ 1.8 MHz which had Panther 10.3.5 pre-installed when manufactured.
The 17" iMac G5/ 1.8 GHz (ALS) was the only 1.8 GHz model to have Tiger 10.4.x pre-installed when manufactured.
If you want to upgrade to a newer version of OS X, you will also need to purchase a corresponding Full Retail Version, of the desired system.

  • How do you restore your playlists on iTunes after moving data to external hard drive and the playlists are deleted?

after moving everything to an external hard drive, is there a way to restore the playlists you've already created if they're not there anymore?

If you moved the iTunes folder to your external drive, you moved the iTunes library file - iTunes Library.itl, which is in that folder.
You need to tell iTunes where it is, start iTunes with the shift key held down and iTunes should ask you to choose a library.

  • How do I copy a time machine backup onto my old computer after I've replaced the hard drive?

    Hi everyone,
I own a MacBook that I purchased in 2009, and it's served me very well since then; the only exception is that the hard drive suffered after I dropped the computer, and I had to replace it last month.
The old hard drive is now useless, and the new one is nearly blank, and I'd like to upload my old Time Machine contents onto my computer without losing some new files I've gained. What's the best way to do it?
    Thanks!

Use Migration Assistant to move over the files from the Time Machine backup to the Mac.

  • How to launch factory image after format of hard drive

I have an HP TouchSmart600 PC that had a nasty rootkit.  I've backed up the Factory Image partition, and then deleted all partitions and formatted the entire drive.  I will restore the Factory Image partition from backup.  NOW....  how do I access it and use it to restore the PC to it's factory state?

You don't really perform a HP Recovery in that manner. It is very unlikely to work as the system links pointing to the recovery partition will be missing. You should have created a set of HP Recovery Discs when you first setup your computer. Please locate the complete model and/or product of your computer and enter it HERE.

  • HT201250 How to recover iPhoto Library after format of hard drive?

I've recently reinstalled Lion onto my hard drive but I forgot to backup my iPhoto library. Is there any way of recovering this library? I also have an external hard drive that had Time Machine Backups but that hard drive has since gone through formats as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

SOLUTION : iPhoto folder recovered after formatting hard drive by mistake.
I was able for recover my iPhoto library ( intact ) after formatting the hard drive by mistake.
On top of that I formatted it in FAT32 format. My iPhoto folder was huge 100GB with file and movies of all sort of formats. I kept it on a secondary hard drive of 500 GB. one day I was formatting flash drive for somebody which was 500Mb, seems similar to my 500GB and I formatted my hard drive by mistake. I realized the mistake a week after the person called me and said there is nothing in flash disk and I find a single file on my hard drive. Needless to say the earth disappeared underneath me. All my pictures for 10 years , 8000 thousand of them, cherished memories all gone. But was I determined to find them back and I know they are intact somewhere. My biggest fear was that formatting on MS-dos format might have really deleted them , but they were there. and here is how I got them back.
First I tried the Data recuse 3 software. I got the photos back,  but they were all jumbled up. Long numerical file names and original dates were gone. No way I could sort it out back to the way it was before . So my target was to recover the iPhoto folder intact.
    - I bought an external hard drive with 1tb space to retrieve the data.
    - The software which did the miraculous job is called  " STELLAR PHOENIX MAC DATA RECOVERY" .
    - I ran a deep scan all night and came up with many volumes.  volume-1 was the MS dos , volume 2 was a mac system,
    - I tried MS dos volume first and there was nothing on it.
    - I tried the 2 volume with mac system. It got all my files and some other system file.
    - I could see the iPhoto folder and click on that only to recover. After that I went for my doc and other files later.
    - It took hours to retrieve my iPhoto folder intact, The folder size was right and file were there in master folder.
    - I checked in FINDER , opening iPhoto with "show content " and all my picture file were there with original date.
    - BUT when tried opening it in iPhoto , there was nothing. it keep showing the wait icon and nothing shows up. Empty iPhoto.
    - I tired starting iPhoto , holding command -option and tried building and repairing database, nothing worked.
    - Then I got this software " iPhoto library manager" .
    - downloaded, installed it and pointed it towards my iPhoto folder.
    - It asked for space to rebuild a new iPhoto library with existing picture and folder.
I had another external hard drive , I used it to make a rebuild  iPhoto library.
and there I GOT IT. only took three night of pain.
    IMPORTANT:
I never touched my original formatted hard drive. Don't write anything on it until you are sure you have recovered everything. open and see files with your own eyes.
    - I recovered the iPhoto on another hard drive and then built it on another hard drive . Yes its pain in the neck but well worth fixing your stupid mistake of not making a back up in the first place.
I hope this helps all who are looking for iPhoto recovery and their lovely memories.
