How to fade part of a photo?

I've imported a photo of a striped shirt into PSE 6.   I want to put some text on top of the shirt.   Unfortunately, the stripes on the shirt make it difficult to read the text.
So I though if faded the stripes a little--where the text will be--that will fix this problem.
So I need to know how to fade just that one section of the photo where the text will be.  I don't want to fade it entirely--just enough so that the text is readable.  That is, I want the stripes to still be somewhat visible.   How much I fade them will be up to me.
Thanks for your help!
Jim

Here I added the text. Then on the Background layer selected an area around the text using the Rectangular Marquee, feathered the selection a few pixels to soften the edges, and applied a Levels adjustment layer to lighten it. Note that you can use a plain Levels adjustment (Ctrl-L) rather than a Levels adjustment layer; the adjustment layer is "non-destructive" so that you preserve the original picture.

  • Beginner at photoshop:  how to fade one edge on photo into a solid graphic bar

I am creating a banner with a photo on the left and I want the edge of the photo to extend to the left and fade from photo to solid graphic bar. I will then be writing text in the color bar for the banner. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Make sure your picture is in a layer above the background color. With your picture layer selected (as you can see by the blue highlight in the layers panel), click the mask button (bottom red circle). Then, with the mask selected (see the black stroke around it's icon in the top red circle; it is selected by default), use the gradient tool to paint the mask white to black. White reveals, black conceals. If you need to edit the picture layer, you can click the layer icon (just to the left of the mask icon in the top red circle). If you click the chain icon connecting mask and layer, you can scale/move them independently. Click back where the chain was to re-link them.

  • How can I move part of one photo into another photo?

In older versions of Photoshop you could see two or more frames in the work area and cut an paste parts of one photo into another photo by using the "move" tool after the area to be moved was selected. I am having trouble discerning how to achieve this action in CC. Could someone in the forum with this experience give me some steps to take to complete this process? Thanks.

what is the best way to enlarge a part of a photo in lightroom?  How much cn you enlarge it and get an acceptable result?

The way I would do it would be to crop the image so that it only displays what you want, then export that image and specify the dimensions. You will have to experiment with different export sizes to determine what would be acceptable for your situation. You might be more forgiving or more demanding than anyone who would venture to answer that question. That's the nice part about digital photography; you can experiment to your heart's content until you get the result you are looking for.

  • How do I remove the 'seam' after adjusting one part of my photo?

I am new to PS, using CS6. In the attached picture ,I wanted to adjust the rear of the animal so that it wasn't so dark, she looked like she was disappearing into the dark, but my adjustment has left a 'seam' that I am struggling to fix. I looked up online how todo my initial adjustment that led to this problem,  and this is what I did:
I used the lassoo and isolated her rear quarters. I created a new brightness/contrast adjustment layer, and pasted in her cut out rump in this layer. I adjusted the brightness to about where I want it, she's no longer disappearing into the dark.
However as you can see, there's now a definite 'seam' line between her fur on her front end, and the rear end where I adjusted. I tried creating another adjustment layer to adjust again, but this didn't work. I've played around with different tools, some of which won't work on the adjustment layers (I'm new, that's how you learn these things) but I'm stuck - how do I make the lighting on her fur as it recedes look even again? Or, is the way I originally did it not the best way?
I'd love some instruction on this, I have so many photos where I only want to adjust the lighting in one area, that I'm open for ideas...
    thanks heaps,
    cheers, Metta

    Hi
Quote:"What good was that supposed to do?"
I thought this was a forum for newbies. If I knew it wasn't going to do any good, obviously, I wouldn't have tried it!   If the 'stupidity' of newbies tries your patience and has you rolling your eyes, then perhaps best not to let them annoy you with their stupid attempts, and hang out with those who are your equals. At least I am giving this a go. Many people are too scared to even go near PS. Or they give up the first time something goes wrong.  I try to solve my own problems first. I try to learn by creating challenges - such as wanting to adjust the background on my own picture that I want to use for my own purposes rather than having everything spoon-fed to me and being afraid to move  away from whatever a tutorial or book offers. Yes, I follow tutorials, but I also try and expand out from that by looking at my own pictures and what do I want to do with them, and then try and work out how to do it, even if I don't know everything yet. (And clearly I don't, as you were all too quick to remind me). I'm the kind of person who is not afraid to press a key to see what will happen. At least I am trying, and willing to learn.
As I said in my OP, the reason I chose the course of action that I did was that I was following a tutorial that I found online that instructed me that that was the way to do it; that is, to adjust one part of a photo. And the instruction said to create a new layer with the part you want to adjust cut out, and then adjust it. That part worked. So in that regard, the tutorial instructed me correctly. What I wasn't bargaining on was the 'seam' where the fur transition is not smooth. As for using brushes as you suggested, I tried that, and also the healing tool, but when I tried to use them on that layer, PS advised me that I could not use them on it. I tried a few other things, including selecting the seam area and trying to adjust that (ok, go on, laugh) but that didn't work either, but when the tools weren't working, I was left stuck on what to try next. Clearly I've done something wrong, now please teach me how I may have approached it better.  I hope the screen shot is clear enough. Thank you.

How do I adjust iMovie to not cut off part of the photo as it transitions between photos?

Have you transferred photos from your computer to your iPhone which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If so, you can place this video in the folder of photos on your computer that is selected to be transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, select Include Videos.

I need to reverse a cloned part of a photo. How?

Could you post a screenshot of the image that you're working with? That way, we can give you more specific individualized help
Generally, you can flip a selection or an image by going to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal. So if you've cloned an area of an image, use a selection tool to select it (I'd recommend the Quick Selection Tool) and then flip it horizontally.

  • Only part of my photos went to the icloud on my ipad? How do I get them all to transfer to my ipad?

Can anyone tell me how to get all of my photo's from my iphone to transfer to my ipad? Whtn I did my sync it only transferred a portion of them to the icloud?

Photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days.  After 30 days they are removed from iCloud but not from any device that has already received them.  If the missing photos are more than 30 days old, they would not be in photo stream for your iPad to receive them (even though they may still be on your iPhone).
Also, photos are only uploaded after photo stream is enabled.  Earlier photos are not added to photo stream.  If the missing photos were on your iPhone prior to turn on photo stream on your iPhone, they would also not be in your photo stream for your iPad to receive them.
To transfer all the photos to your iPad, import them from your phone to your computer (as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then put them in a folder and sync them to your iPad by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing your iPad.  Alternatively, you can transfer them wirelessly to your iPad (as well as your computer) using an app like PhotoSync.

  • How do I recover a deleted photo from my iphone

how do I recover a deleted photo from my iphone?

The iPhone Photo Recovery allows you to recover data by two ways: Recover from iOS devices and recover from iTunes backup. No matter which way you choose, the first step is to download and install the software on your computer. Then follow the way below to get back your data.
Part 1: Directly recover photo from iPhone 5/4S, iPad mini, iPad with Retina display, The New iPad, iPad 2 & iPod touch 5
article: How to recover deleted photos from iPhone.
Part 2: Recover Data Directly from iPhone 4/3GS, iPad 1 & iPod touch 4
Part 3: Extract iTunes Backup to Recover Previous Data for All iOS Devices
This data recovery mode lets you recover not only existing data in the backup, but also those data deleted from your device before you made the backup, as long as they were not overwritten.
Note: Don't sync your device with iTunes when you realize that you've lost data, or the iTunes backup file will be updated after the sync, if you want to recover them through this recovery mode.

  • How to view more than one photo?

To view my photos, I generally go into the "Photos" part of the library and then just click the arrow for whatever given date of photos. Until a few days ago, when a date opened I had 3-4-5, maybe even 6 photos in a line across. Now, the photos are so large I can only see one at a time in the window. I can get to two in a row if I open the window as wide as possible. I don't know what I did to change this, but can't figure out how to go back. How can I see more smaller photos in a horizontal row?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks !

Look at the bottom right of the iPhoto Window and see the slider there? Drag it left.
