How to fax from Macbook

Can I fax from my MacbookPro noteboke via internet?

I don't do it through the Internet, I have a US Robitics fax modem that I purchased from Amazon to both send and receive faxes from/to my computer - here.
Works great. I did have a Canon MX922 for a while that also includes a fax function but returned it because the print quality was poor.

How to fax from Mac? I have Epson Artisan 810 All in one (Print, fax, scan and copy)

Generally speaking all such features are now integrated in OS X's Print dialog.
File > Print, choose your printer and select "Send Fax" from the dropdown menu:
Fill in the fax number and click Add to add it to the destination list:
... then click Print and your print / fax will dial the phone and send the fax.

  • How to fax from a macbook on a home network? All advice gratefully received

not sure if i'm being dumb...
i use a macbook on a home Timecapsule/AirPort network, and I want to be able to fax from it. When I try to do so at the moment, I just get 'Modem not found' and am presuming therefore that MacBook does not have any internal modem.
But couldn't Timecapsule do it somehow?
Or do i need to buy/install an additional Apple USB Modem? If so where would I plug it in?
Or do I just need to suscribe to some service such as eFax, which I'd rather not do if possible?
    Does anyone know???
    All advice gratefully received.

You can buy a modem for you computer, in which case you can connect it to a phone line and the USB port on your computer. There may be all-in-one printers that allow faxing through them, but I am not familiar with which ones have drivers for that. (I so not understand why there would not be, but manufacturers have not always seen it necessary to provide them.) There may be some of those which may be accessed through a network connection to your Time Capsule.

  • Faxing from MacBook (Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.3)

    Good day all,
Can I fax from my MacBook without buying a specific software to do so?
Also, can I fax from my DSL line or must faxing take place from a non DSL connection?
    In advance thank you.

The software is included, but you lack the hardware. You need to buy the Apple USB modem and hook it up to an ordinary analog phone line.
If you want to use your DSL connection, you can't fax in the traditional way. You need to use one of the internet fax services. You can use those without having to buy additional hardware.

  • Faxing from MacBook Pro

    Hi there,
I used to have a G4 Powerbook and was able to fax from it, but since acquiring my MBP I cannot.
When I try to fax a document I get a report that it cannot find a modem, yet I did not (to my knowledge) have a modem in my G4, I simply plugged in my telephone cable and away it went.
I have been to the preferences and they are different on my MBP than on my G4 and under "Print and Fax" I have only print options.
Can anybody shed some light on this for me please?
    regards

    Hi sydman,
You did, indeed, have a built in modem on your G4 powerbook. That is what you were plugging your phone line into!
THe MBP does not have an internal modem, however. (the similar looking plug is NOT for a phone line. It is for an ethernet connection).
To fax with your MBP you will need a USB Modem - like the one at http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA034Z/A (THat is a link to the US store, but you will readily be able to obtain one in NZ too)
    Cheers from over the Tasman.

  • How to print from Macbook Pro on a Cannon MP610 printer?

I have recently bought a Macbook Pro, and I have a wireless network set up at home.
I have no problems connecting to the internet or the network. But I can't seem to access the printer. I have a Cannon MP610 Printer. This printer is connected to the PC, which is connected to the modem. The printer is unable to connect directly into the modem which is unfortunate
It's a fairly big network. We have a master pc that is connected to the modem. This master computer also has a usb printer. We have a secondary pc ethernet linked to the master pc, which can connect to the internet and the printer via the ethernet.
The modem is a Thomson TG782T ADSL.
We have 3 windows O/S laptops, and 2 MAC O/S laptops.. No laptop can access the printer. Only the internet.
Can you access a printer from a laptop through the modem through the master computer the the printer?
The printer is turned on, and the PC is always running. The printer and file sharing is turned on.
What would be the least expensive way I could go about fixing this problem?
I have heard about people downloading Gutenprint; so i downloaded it, but couldn't get it to run.
I have tried many different ways, and after adding a new printer and finding it on the network.. is then says it is in the queue list.. but won't print. It just sits there until you cancel it.
    Thanks in advance
    Jason

How can I use the Gutenprint driver on my Mac? All it does is downloads and installs, but it wont allow me to use it. (Like it doesn't come up under applications or anything).
Installing printers on Mac's is usually a two step process. The first is to install the driver software if it is not on the Mac already and the second is to add the printer queue. OS X 10.6 comes with Gutenprint v5.2.3 already so would be no need to download and install again, unless you customized the OS X installation and selected not to install the printer drivers or you have a model of printer that only a later version of Gutenprint supports. Since your MP610 is listed as a supported model with v5.2.3 then the downloading was probably a waste of your time.
To add the printer when it is shared by Windows you open Print & Fax, select to add ( + ) and then select the Windows icon. This will open a pane showing three columns. The first column is for workgroup names and since you mention you're using XP Home then your workgroup name will be 'mshome'. If your Mac does not see 'mshome' in the first column then we need to look at the IP addresses being used by your computers.
    IP address:121.222.186.51
According to "what is my ip address.com" it says my MacBook Pro and master desktop PC has both the same IP addresses. Is this meant to be correct?
Looking at the IP address listed this is going to be the address of the Thomson router. If all computers were using the same address then this would be a problem but given that you used a web service to tell you the address then this won't be the case.
To see what IP address, subnet mask and gateway address you are have configured, you can use Command Prompt on XP and type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. This will give you a list of all the network settings in the PC. Write these down for later reference.
For the Mac you can open System Preferences > Network and select which port you are using (Ethernet or Airport). Then in the right pane will be the current IP address. To get more information you can press the Advanced button and then select the TCP/IP tab in the next pane.
How do I create a PMB queue? And how do I find out if I can ping the master PC? (what's your definition of ping?)
It's an SMB queue and I suggest that we leave that process for now. Besides you will need to know the IP address of the XP sharing the printer before we can try that process. So let's just try to get the computers appearing in the Windows Add Printer browser and using the Gutenprint driver instead of the Canon.

  • HOW to fax from OS 10.3.9? Please help

I have read so many of the posts after doing a search. I read the help files. I tried all the various suggestions for set up, etc. It all seems so simple. But it will not work for me.
When I try, the internal modem dialog or log comes up and it prepares, then says it is dialing...but never does. It then says Hold until (a time appears).
I try it over and over but it keeps doing the same thing. I repaired permissions. I deleted the held jobs.
I have gone to network-network status-internal modem then selected Modem. Under that Apple Internal 56k Modem (v.90) is selected. I tried checking and unchecking error correction and wait for dial tone. I click apply in all cases.
Nothing works. How do you do it?
    Thanks for any help.

Humm. Ali B. Look up above. I wrote: I used a phone line plugged into the back of my G4.
I never expected to be able to fax via my cable modem. For that reason, I made sure to unplug my phone line from my phone and plug it into my computer's modem port.
Have you done this? And are there any steps you took beyond the obvious ones spelled out in the Apple help files? I just can't think wha else could be the problem....Though I have one more test idea. I'll try this using a different computer and my same phone line.
In any case, thanks for trying.

  • How to AirPlay from MacBook Air iPhoto?

Anybody know how to reproduce a video that has been downloded from iPhone into iPhoto (MacBook Air) to Apple TV?
I recently downloded all videos from my iPhone into my MacBook Air´s iPhoto to free space. When I played the videos on my iPhone, I was able to choose my Apple TV in order to whatch it on my TV.
Now that I have the video on iPhoto, when I play it, Macbook Air does not give the option to reproduce it on Apple TV. Same goes for Youtube and other videos played on my MacBook Air.

Mountain Lion (the next version of OS X) will have Apple TV mirroring built in.  Wait a couple months.

  • HT4356 how to print from macbook pro to hp printer? i used your steps but i still cant print any of my documents.

pls answer this as soon as possible. it's urgent since my school's gonna start in just 3 days.

    Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
if you connect to your printer via wifi:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple
    see if it works.
If it doesn't work, try going to the printer manufacturer's website and see if they have updated software.
If that doesn't work, try going to gutenprint Gutenprint for Mac OS X  and see if there is an alternate driver for your printer.

  • How to share from Macbook(using wifi) to Apple TV (using ethernet)?

    Hi-
I recently moved in to my college dorm. I brought my Apple TV, and IT said the only way to hook it up was to directly connect the Apple TV with the ethernet cable in my dorm. That works fine, and I can still access Netflix and the other apps using the cable; however my MacBook Pro does not show that it's available to share it's screen on to the Apple TV anymore.
When I was using Apple TV at home, we set it up through our secured wifi network, and could press a button to share my Mac screen onto the TV's.
I think that since the Apple TV and my MacBook Pro are using different wifi networks or settings, it isn't allowing me to do that anymore.
Is there any way to still project my Mac's screen on to the Apple TV? I do not want other people to have access to my computer if I change the settings for internet sharing, but I still want to be able to share my screen onto the TV.
Thank you so much, I'd love an answer.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Many college/university networks will not allow communication between devices on that network. One workaround is to create your own network by installing something like an Airport Extreme and connecting it to your dorm ethernet connection. Unfortunately, some of these institutions won't allow this workaround either.

  • How to fax from 2011 iMac 27"

I am new to the Mac world and have occasional needs to fax. I have seen conflicting views on what works and what does not!
Does anyone have a relatively non-technical solution for a newbee to the Mac world?
    Thanks all,

Well yes, but it involves buying a fax machine.
This (or something like it) is less than $40
As a bonus you get a photocopier and it is very simple to use.

  • How do i fax from my macbook

I was wondering if I can Fax from my macbook using a cell phone or wifi?

You would have to buy a USB modem and hook it up to a landline; Apple used to make one, but hasn't supported faxing for several years. The only way is if you have an all-in-one printer that supports it (without the need for a computer), but again, with a landline.
