How to figure out the correct screen resolution?

My 2 year old was playing with my iMac G5 and messed up the resolution setting. I have managed to restore it to something that looks okay, but am not certain what the optimum is. In System Preferences/Displays I have it set to 1600x1200 60Hz, which I suspect is more pixels than this 3.5 year old 17' iMac has. If I go to About this Mac/More Info... I see the iMac resolution says 1440x900 (this is not one of the choices in System Preferences/Displays) and the VGA Display says 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz which I wonder is for any external display or something and I believe just reflects what I have the Preferences set to. Any way to discover what the optimum resolution should be?

I don't think you can choose more pixels than your machine has, or it wouldn't be a choice. I have always understood that the optimum resolution is the largest available as a choice in Display.

  • How to find out the current  screen resolution/width in webdynpro.

    HI,
Can any one please tell me how to get the screen resolution in webdynpro?
    Regards
    -Sandip

    Hi Sandip,
    - view size can be set by setting the 'width' of the RootUIElementContainer. By defalut, it will be 100% only. Also, It is always better to use the % coz it does not distort your view with different screen resolutions.
    - while creating the iview, you have the property like 'HeightType'. There you can set the value as FIXED, AUTOMATIC & FULL_PAGE. If you wish, you may leave it as it is.
    - All you have the properties like 'Fixed Height' etc to set the size values.

  • Does a New iMac Always Open With The Correct Screen Resolution?

This may sound a daft question but the other day I visited a friend and when he switched his 2 year old 24" iMac on, I was horrified to see black bands down each side of the screen.
It was obvious he had an incorrect resolution. . . . . I think it turned out to be 800x600!
Anyway I reset it to the correct 1920x1200 and he was amazed at the improvement!
I asked him how it had got like that and he said it had always been that way.
My immediate suspicion was that he had bought the machine second-hand from some idiot who had been fiddling with it but he assured me he had bought it new and that's how it had been from the start.
From what I remember, all my computers have started off with the correct screen resolution and haven't needed any resetting.
    Any idea why this happened?

    Thanks Barbara and den.thed.
Your suggestions will be helpful for anyone with a similar problem looking at this thread, however, they don't apply in this case. (Hope that doesn't sound bad! LOL)
This friend bought the iMac a couple of years ago simply to edit with Final Cut Pro. He doesn't use it for anything else and it isn't even connected to the internet. (He uses a PC for all mundane chores like that).
He claims that upon initial startup it displayed the 4:3 desktop image and assumed it was normal for his machine . . . . . . . . though he must have seen others in the shops displaying correctly.
Incidentally it may not have been 800x600, but it was certainly an incorrect 4:3 aspect ratio.
As he is a very intelligent and skilled film maker and editor I am surprised that he never queried it, after years of using PCs.

  • I just bought a MAC and am trying  to figure out the correct version

I just bought a MAC and am trying  to figure out the correct version of LR4 to install on the Mac.  Someone in support (LR) gave the link for the downloads, and I chose the LR4.4 (but, it said LR5---kind of confusing).  I don't have a DVD drive, so I am not sure if this one will work.  I have the LR icon that says Light Room 4.4 on the screen, but LR does not open when I click it.....????? How do I open this?  Thanks!!!

I called my ISP to set it to Bridge mode and they said that they couldn't do that (Linksys help desk gave me instructions on the switch to Bridge mode).  However, they then tried to upsell me their own wireless router for $79.99......
Can I make this change myself or do they need to do it from their end?
    Thanks!

MZcreation of the does not happen automatically. What script, and when does it run, do you have that creates the control file trace? Look for files in that time frame. Better, modify that script to specifically name the file .. BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE AS ....

  • How to figure out the properties of field/object ??

    Hello
I have field (say, its name is field_1) in my_form and  i am coloring yellow by using below code of initialization event:
this.ui.oneOfChild.border.fill.color.value = "255,255,191"; (Actually, just for differentiating / tracing back purpose here  am assigning this yellow color to this field, you can suggest me any thing else that marks / tags this field (i can not populate a value, bcz its visible to user), so that in the  CHANGE event of this field, again i want to check/get/know that whether this field is tagged/marked or not)
fine. But, because of some/below reason, i need to find out its color by using JavaScript, pls. let me know how to figure out its color is as yellow by using JavaScrit?
Reason: If field_1's color is YELLOW (or you suggested any tag/mark as said in the above in red text), then i have to make HIDE the field_2
Field_0's position is extreme left, Field_1's  position is middle and the Field_2's position is exterme right of the page.
I guess, i hv only one option of finding out color, hence am looking forward for JavaScript to find out the color of a field in question
    (OR)
Also, pls. let me know the JavaScript that How can i make HIDE a check box for that COMLETE session (i mean, starting from launching the form in the browser until he closes the window/browser/tab/form), i guess, this idea also workes for my requirement, ( i want to put this code in the docReady event) .....no matter/what ever code is existing there in any event of that field level
    Thank you

    Hi,
If you want to give a visual indicator to the user, then colouring the field yellow is probably a good approach.
However if you just want to keep track on the field, then you could test the field's value (.rawValue) and take appropriate action. In addition you can also attach a variable to an object using the <desc> element. It is a bit involved but you can find an example here: http://assure.ly/x1QObn.
    Hope that helps,

    Hi, John,
Not that you asked, but as you proabably know, analytic functions are much better at doing this kind of thing.
You may be amazed (as I continually am) by how simple and efficient these queries can be.
    For example:
    WITH     got_grp          AS
         SELECT     proj_id, proj_start, proj_end
         ,     proj_end - SUM (proj_end - proj_start) OVER (ORDER BY  proj_start)     AS grp
         FROM     v
SELECT       ROW_NUMBER () OVER (ORDER BY grp)     AS proj_grp
    ,       MIN (proj_start)                         AS proj_start
    ,       MAX (proj_end)               AS proj_end
    FROM       got_grp
    GROUP BY  grp
    ORDER BY  proj_start
    ;Produces the results you want:
      PROJ_GRP PROJ_START  PROJ_END
             1 01-Jan-2005 05-Jan-2005
             2 06-Jan-2005 07-Jan-2005
             3 16-Jan-2005 20-Jan-2005
             4 21-Jan-2005 22-Jan-2005
5 26-Jan-2005 30-Jan-2005This is problem is an example of Neighbor-Defined Groups . You want to GROUP BY something that has 5 distinct values, to get the 5 rows above, but there's nothing in the table itself that tells you to which group each row belongs. The groups are not defined by any column in hte table, but by relationships between rows. In this case, a row is in the same group as its neighbor (the row immediatly before or after it when sorted by proj_start or proj_end) if proj_end of the earlier row is the same as proj_start of the later row. That is, there is nothing about 03-Jan-2005 that says the row with proj_id=2 is in the first group, or even that it is in the same group with its neighbor, the row with proj_id=3. Only the relation between those rows, the fact that the earlier row has end_date=03-Jan-2005 and the later row has start_date=03-Jan-2003, that says these neighbors belong to the same group.
You're figuring out when a new group starts, and then counting how many groups have already started to see to which group each row belongs. That's a prefectly natural procedural way of approaching the problem. But SQL is not a procedural language, and sometimes another approach is much more efficient. In this case, as in many others, a Constant Difference defines the groups. The difference between proj_end (or proj_start, it doesn't matter in this case) and the total duratiojn of the rows up to that date determines a group. The actual value of that difference means nothing to you or anybody else, so I used ROW_NUMBER in the query above to map those distinct values into consecutive integers 1, 2, 3, ... which are a much simpler way to identify the groups.
Note that the query above only requires one pass through the table, and only requires one sub-query. It does not need a WITH clause; you could easily make got_grp an in-line view.
If you used analytic functions (LEAD or LAG) to compute flag, and then to compute proj_grp (COUNT or SUM), you would need two sub-queries, one for each analytic function, but you would still only need one pass through the table. Also, those sub-queries could be in-line views; yiou would not need to use a WITH clause.

I??ve got a U400 which was equipped with the Intel graphic card and I??ve got an external LCD which I have connected to the U400 using the DVI-to-HDMI cable.
My U400 unit supports the HDMI and the LCD the DVI port.
I have received also the driver disk with my LCD and I have installed the software.
I have also update the Intel driver and used one from the Intel page.
Now I have the access to many different external resolutions and can choose it.

  • OSB: how to figure out the execution time of OSB proxy

Trying to figure out how to determine the execution time taken for any given OSB proxy. Seems like the OSB built-in alerting facilities can display the average response time of all calls to a proxy but not individually. Is there a way to dig this out from the monitoring data being collected?

Service monitoring which comes OOTB is supposed to be aggregated because in usual scenarios you dont need to see the processing time of a specific request. From a performance monitoring perspective the useful data usually is average processing time and minimum or maximum processing time for any request within the aggregation interval which is provided by OSB OOTB.
Now, in some cases the business might want to track each request individually. So, for example they can track how long did it take to process a specific order. OSB does not provide this feature OOTB. There are multiple ways to get this implemented. Two of the most common ways are:
    1. Add a start and end time capturing in Proxy Services. You can use logging/reporting/publish to a DB etc to achieve this. But this is indeed intrusive and you will need to do this for every Proxy which needs to be monitored at every instance level. This is also a slight overhead in processing in itself.
    2. Use monitoring products which can monitor the WS invocations externally. This will mean more investment but definitely a much better solution. You can consider using different products from Oracle and other vendors based on your requirements, features of products and costs. A few examples are OWSM, Oracle EM, CA Wily etc.

  • How to find out the selection screen values

    Hi All,
in BI we are having the maximum allowed cells as 500000 for a report.
for some of the reports execution fetching the data morethan 500000 by different users.
i could findout the report and user who has executed, But i wanted to findout for which selection user has executed.
is it possible to find out...please help.
    Thanks,
    Krishna.

    Hi,,
    Yes it is possible.
Open your query result in the design mode by going to BEx Analyzer->Design ToolBar
Now take one text element and assign it to the variable which you have used for the selection screen.
Take the same number of text element as there are in selection screen.
Exit the design mode. In place of the text element you will find the value of the variables assigned to them.

  • Figuring out the correct icloud account

We had to "clear"out our sons iphone 4 (which is not connected to service) because he forgot his password.  He's using it like an ipod.  When we did this and tried to set it up it is asking us to conncect to an icloud account - but we can't figure out which one.  None of our other 3 devices are set up to the one it's prompting us to nor will it recognize the icloud account that it was origanally linked to.  Any suggestions?

Thanks Roger this is uncouraging. I went into my iDisk and I found two things. A folder called Istvan's site that opened to a folder called Blog to a file called rss.xml. This file would not open after I downloaded it. The other thing in the same location was a file called sites.rss that I was able to open. I'm hoping that is the one I need to change. Is it?
The very start of the code has the channel and item tags like you mention in your instructions. Here it is:

    <item>

If in fact this is the file I need to alter do I replace the three lines between the two tags with my new location? Or do I do something else? Why do I feel like I'm about to cut the wrong wire? Thanks Roger.

  • How to figure out the cause of kernel panics?

Hi, I've recently been experiencing kernel panics, and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me find out the reason why. Before I go into more detail, I have a 13-inch, mid 2012 Macbook Pro running OS X Mavericks (10.9.3). Here are some more specifics -
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro9,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.5 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP91.00D3.B08
Anyway, I did a hardware test, and it came back saying there were no hardware issues. Also, the other day I reinstalled OS X Mavericks, and a kernel panic still occurred afterwards. Lastly, a few months ago I changed out my hard drive because the hard drive it came with was really loud. The new hard drive that is currently inside my Macbook is a TOSHIBA Q Series Pro Internal Solid-State 128 GB Drive. Hopefully that's enough background information, but if you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them. Thanks a lot.

  • How to figure out the size of an object - java out of heap memory error

    Hi all,
I am using an object that I found in a library that I didn't create so I don't know its internal state or members.
I created a single one of these objects and I call announce() on this object which just sends a UDP announcement over the channel to notify listeners. However, after a message #124,288 I get a java out of heap memory error.
I am wondering if this announce() method is causing the state of the object to grow with every call...it seems unlikely but I want to check to see if it's reserving a growing amount of heap memory without ever allowing it to free.
My question is how can I check how big the object is within my program? I'd like to check, for instance, at every 10,000 messages sent how much memory the object is taking up. Is there a method call for that? Would I have to use some kind of debugger or memory monitor? I would like something easy to use.
Please let me know, and thanks in advance.
    Julian

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I say it's unlikely that the methods I call are filling up heap memory because I have one Message object. This one Message has a myMsg String member. Whenever I want to change the message I call myMsg = "anewstringhere". And then I do myMessageObject.announce(); And for that reason i say I only have one Message object. The only thing added to the heap would be the strings that I replace myMsg with. The old references to myMsg are no longer valid and should be garbage collected..
Unless of course if you are calling intern() on them.
so here's my train of thought (and this isn't what my actual code looks like):
myMessageObject.myMsg = "hello" //creates a string on the heap? I assume this is equivalent to saying myMsg = new String("hello")No they are not the same.
The text literal will be in the intern space. Both code fragments would do that.
The second example would create a second instance of String(). That second instance would be cleaned when no longer referenced. But the literal will not.
Is my thought process correct? You are calling a third party library right so mock it (write a simple replacement that does the minimal correct functionality.) Substitute it in your code. And then run. If it still fails then the problem is in your code. If not then it is either in the library or the way that you use the library.
