How to fill an object made with line segment?

I made some objects with the line segment tool, but i cant seem to fill them. Not even when i group the lines and try to fill after.
Anybody an idea? thanks

Live paint will do the trick you select the lines and click on the live paint bucket tool which will make the lines a part of live paint group, there are options for controlling the gap distance.
Then select a color and click the live paint tool somewhere in the area that the lines are used to define. it will fill with that color.n CS 2 and 3 I think well CS3 for sure.

Suggestion for how to make text more legible with line in background?

I want to create a dashed line that connects a bunch of text located inside a text box. However, the dashed line seems to conflict a bit with the text visually, making it difficult to read. I sent the line to the back and put small white rectangles behind the text to block the line, though I am going to have lots of these, and it is a pain. Anyone have any other suggestions?

The white stroke is more a movie sub title thing and like in the movies does not always work.
Try this and see if you like it
select the text with a selection tool
add a new fill of white and drag the fill below the characters in th appearance panel
the highlight the new fill in the appearance panel
then go to Effect>Convert to Shape>Rectangle
give it 2pts extra relative space
below with the new fill converted not visible
withe the new fill converted to a rectangle visible
The problem with this method and the extra stroke method is that they are not transparent and if you place an object below them you will see the stroke or
fill
You can vary the gaps and fills until you get the right combination but that might be very difficult unless you simply vary the placement of the text.

How to avoid starting a page with line breaks?

Hello. I've just started to refine my Master's thesis and some of the topics moved up and down as I edited their contents. The problem is that in some cases the topic breaks right after the title, and the rest of the contents just move away to another page. Is there any way to avoid starting a page with line breaks or broken topics?

At the end of your title, you didn't inserted a line break but a paragraph break (carriage return).
Acivate the mode "Show hidden characters"
Select the carriage return (paragraph break)
Delete it
Press Shift + return to insert a true line break.
It may be useful to apply that several times if you inserted several carriage returns between the title and the first filled line.

Hi Szymon,
You need to add the Value and Description to the Combo's ValidValue collection, just like with a normal Combo.
I leave you a sample that shows how to fill a Combo from a RecordSet.

How to fill an 8x10 page with the same image for making buttons?

How do you make a button template using the grid? How do you import the image onto that, and how do you fill an entire page with the same image ie- 1" circles

I'm trying to do the same thing but I want 1" squares. I just upgraded from Elements 6 and I did this
quite often for pendant necklaces. I used to go and print individual prints, but the previous options are not there. ;(
And the picture package is only showing 20 (2x2) as being the smallest size. I don't see a custom button.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? We're doing these for a fundraiser and I can't even print anymore.

I would suggest you use EEWB to enhance the Activity object. There is the provision of enhancing the Mobile sbdocs directly from EEWB.
This way you don't have to spend lots of efforts in developments.
When you create extension in EEWB, for input fields select the appropriate values mention below:
EEW Bus. Obj: BUSINESS_ACTIVITY
Extension Type: ACTIVITY_H
On Next Screen enter screen title and press continue.
On Next screen select 'Business Activity' and continue.
Enter the fields required on next screen and continue.
Further on next screen define if fields should be releavant for header, item or both.
and on the next screen select 'Mobile' so that sbdocs are accordingly modified.

Filling in a shape made with lines

I am really new to illustrator and I need to know the answer to this question fast. If I made a weird shape with 5 different lines how would I fill it in? Nothing really happens when I select the lines and then select a color.

Select the lines you've created and choose convert to "Live Paint" (Object>Live Paint>Make). This nifty feature lets you fill non-joined paths. It also greatly simplifies the process of working with multiple shapes that share edges. Better yet, you can edit the indivual lines to update the shapes, automatically. That's why they call it "Live Paint". I use this feature extensively, along with the pencil or pen tool, to create complex, interlocking shapes, that would take MUCH more time, closing each shape individually. Read about it in the online help.

How to fill an object with another object

I have created this watercolor blob shape with the help of a tutorial and I was wondering if it would be possible to use that watercolor blob to fill a shape (let's say a circle). How can I go about doing that? I've attempted using the make pattern function in order to create a fill pattern that way, but it's just not working out for me. Are there any other ways? Any help would be really appreciated!

If you wish to give the top shape a stroke, you may:
3) Click its bounding path with the Direct Selection Tool;
4) Click the Stroke box and the Color box at the bottom of the Toolbox and apply the colour (you can do that through the Color palette).

Can't Pathfinder-- Merge an object made with paintbrush??

I've been having problems using the Pathfinder-->Merge.
It seems that if at least one of two objects was created with the paintbrush instead of the pen tool, the objects aren't merged correctly.
Why? Shouldn't this work? Am I missing something?

It all depends on how you define "correct"
Do you need the special stroke that is created by using a paintbrush eg with variable thickness?
Or did you just use the paintbrush because it was at hand?
In the first case you have to expand the stroke: Objekt > Expand apperance
In the second case, delete the brush stroke and assign a normal stroke or none at all.
You'll also have to assign fills. Merge needs them
Screenshots are very helpful in cases like this ...

How to fill a sparse table with zero

I have a sparse table, most of the cells is null, but and few of the cells is "1"
I would like to fill the null with zero.
This table is from pivoting a transactional table into a table that will describe the attributes and later on for data mining
I am thinking of
1) do a user_tab_columns and copy and paste make a script that use NVL
for e.g.
select 'NVL('||column_name||',0,'||column_name||'),' from user_tab_columns
where lower(table_name) = 'claims_t1'
but I run into an issue
e.g.
create or replace view claims_t2x

I keep getting error of ORA-00911: invalid character
as the column name got "'" in it.

2)Use PL/SQL
I just do a select and loop through the whole thing
For 2), I am not sure how I can get all the column attribute.
As the attribute in the transaction table is not fix so the number of column after pivoting is not fix
any idea?
