How to filter / find referenced photos by where they are located

Ok guys, I have been going round the bend with this one.... I've been through all of the Filter options in Aperture 3.4.3 several times over the last week trying to find for some way to get Aperture to only show referenced photos that are located on a particular external hard drive (EXT1) / within a particular sub-folder.
In addition to some Originals/Masters being located on EXT1 I also have some referenced photos located on my start-up volume (OSX).
The desired function: I would like to move all of the photos (and video files) that Aperture is referencing (along with the existing folder structure) from within /EXT1/Photos/ to another folder (either also on EXT1 or maybe on to another drive (EXT2), it doesn't really matter where).
Why do I want to do this? I want to check whether there are any 'lost' files that shouldn't be inside /EXT1/Photos/ that Aperture is for some reason not referencing. If I move the files that Aperture is referecing away from their current location then the things that are left over would either need importing into Aperture, or moved eslewhere, or maybe even deleted. Some such files might have been put there by other applications, or by me accidentally, or more likely that Versions of them have been deleted from the Aperture library but the Orignals/Masters were not moved to the system Trash...
I've gone through 5 pages of google results, trying all of the keywords that I think might be relevant, searched many posts in macrumours forums as well as here, but I can't find an answer to what I thought would have been a simple question.
Under File > Locate Referenced Files Aperture can tell me which files are located on each Volume, but from here there is nothing that can be done with the results :-( being able to search my Volume and file path would be very useful to me.
If I've missed something obvious then sorry, but I've gone cross eyed with lack of sleep tonight I thought I'd throw the question out there in case someone knows whether this is type or search criteria is not possible, or if I'm just missing something obvious!
Thanks in advance,
Adam

My next question, which I can post a new topic for if it's suggested, is "can you safely delete the RAW file in a previously imported RAW + JPEG pair?". I did some research into this a few weeks ago but didn't uncover a proper way of doing this, but someone suggested that you can simply just set the JPEG to be the Original/Master within Aperture and then delete the RAW file within Finder.
That is a cumbersome workaround. I cannot really recommend it - I tried it myself. Aperture will complain over and over again about the missing RAW files and even repairing the library will ot fix it. The safer way to remove the raw files from the pair would be to export the jpegs as master and to reimport them, then to delete the older imported versions after lifting and stamping any edits you may have done already.
Aperture's built-in feature to keep only raw for selected images is to allow to import only the jpegs first, browse the images, and than add the raw later for the images that you want to have at a better resolution.
From the Aperture Manual:
If you import only the JPEG files and then later decide you want to download the RAW files as well, you can have Aperture identify and import the RAW files that match the JPEG files in your Aperture library.
To import the RAW files that match the JPEG files in your Aperture library
Choose “Matching RAW files” from the Import pop-up menu. The Include pop-up menu appears below the Import pop-up menu.
Do one of the following:
To import all matching RAW files regardless of rating: Choose “All matching files” from the Include pop-up menu.
To import all RAW files matching JPEG files that are unrated or better: Choose “Unrated or better” from the Include pop-up menu.
To import all RAW files that match the current rating: Choose “Current filter” from the Include pop-up menu.

  • I blew my motherboard on an old computer and hooked my old hard drive to the new computer and want to transfer my bookmarks to the new drive but cannot find where they are located on the old drive--any help?

My motherboard went bad on my old computer, but the hard drive was OK. I purchased a new computer and hooked my old hard drive to it through a usb adapter. I would like to import or copy my bookmarks from the old hard drive to my new one, but I cannot find where they are. I was unable to determine this from searching articles on the web. Be advised that my old hard drive is basically nothing but a storage place for files at this point. My old operating system was windows XP, and my new system is Windows Home Premium.

  • Migrated users from Dev to QA ,how to find where they are located in my system

    Hi ,
I just  migrated users and servers from DEV to QA . I just want to find the specific folder ,where the users and servers are located in my system .
    Thanks,
    Raghunath

I didn't get exactly what you are asking…
To find out specific folder ,If you want to find the user (Ragu) included in which group?
Select the user and user group from CMC Home list box or click on the users and groups
In the Search Title enter the user id (Ragu) -> then select the user (Ragu) and right Click and select member of form the context menu.
It will display list of user groups which user included.
So all the user’s information stored in connection servers (CMC Data Base),
whenever user run report..first it will hit the connection servers (CMC Data Base) and check whether user have authorizations to the respective DB/Servers...If user have authorizations then again hit the requested DB/Servers and fetch the data and show in the report.
where the users and servers are located in my system .
To see what are all the servers -> click on the servers
Then it will display folders like
    Core Servers
    Web Intelligence Server
    Dashboard Server
    Promotion Management Server Etc..
For example if you click Web Intelligence Server, able to see how many servers and what is the state and host name etc… all the servers related info also stored in CMC Data Base.
So all the users and servers information not located in your local system.

  • How do you move or can I move Itune folders (Movies), (TV Shows) and (Home Videos) to other internal hard drives (running out of space) on my computer's main hard drive and have Itunes recongize where they are?

I built my own computer which has 4 internal hard drives with 3 internal hard drives that are 3tb.  With my movies and tv shows, I need to know if I can move the Itunes folders (Movies, TV shows and Home Video's) and move each one of them to 3 seperate internal hard drives while Itunes can still find them to play with my apple tv.  Does anyone know how I can do it?

While you can do that, it is not a feature of iTunes.  Put your movies on the external drive, then add them to iTunes by dragging the files to iTunes while holding the option (alt) key down so it leaves the files where they are located.  There are other ways to move them if they are already added but they can be more involved and tricky.  If it's just one or two try:  http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=relocateselected

  • How can I find duplicate photos without going through all 5000  one at a time?

How can I find duplicate photos withough going through all 5000 one by one?  I have numerous duplications and used to be able to click on Edit and Find Duplicates and could clean up all the duplicates easily.  Now that option is gone.  I still have lots to delete.

I do backup everything using Carbonite. Please don't tell me it is bad, too :-)  Also, especially with photo files, I do have other backups of those I am concerned about. Probably not the best in the world, but a log better than many people who I know about.
Again, I really have not seen any problems with MacKeeper.  I imagine that if people do not read and follow instructions, they could have problems. For example, it is possible to scan all your files and see them in order of size. If you start deleting things, without knowing what you're deleting, you could cause trouble. Even when the computer scans for so-called junk files, you can look at them and decide for yourself if they are truly junk. I've never seen any that were not.
So, I will look at the complaints anyway to see them. I am open to change, although I hope I do not need to drop Mackeeper as it does things like keeping tracking of applications updates that I need. Please note that I definitely am not a MacKeeper employee or anything close. Just using it and happy with the the results.
I did download the recommend file for finding photo dupes and ran it.  There were very few duplicates, in any case, As I said before, the MacKeeper dupe finder was very slow when I ran it over ALL my files. That was a year ago and it did find many non-text dupes.

How do I find which photo iPhoto is telling me I have a problem with?
I'm trying to buy a book I've formatted, but in place of the filename, it just calls it "(null)".
All of the photos I'm using have names.

That same one others seem to have gotten: "Unable to Assemble Book -- There is a problem with the photo with the filename “(null).” The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book"
I've tried restarting iPhoto with the option and command keys pressed, and asking it to repair permissions, but still have the same message...

  • How can I find a photo from the backup file in my pc?

How can I find a photo from the backup file in my pc?
I have accidentally erased a photo. It happened after the backup.

I am not aware you can extract a single photo or a single app's content from the backup, you can either restore the whole backup to your phone or not restore. If you restore your last backup to your phone then any content that is currently on your phone will be replaced with what was on it at the time that the backup was made - so if you do decide to restore, first copy off any purchases to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, and copy any documents/files that you've udpated on the phone since the backup.

How do i find duplicate photos in my iPhoto library?

These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

If they’re in an iPhoto library, look in the Pictures folder of your home folder first. Otherwise, they’ll be in the location corresponding to the one you saved them to.
