How to find a restore dvd for MacBook Pro A1278

I will be helping my neice with a MacBook Pro,13-inch, Mid 2010, with a failed hard drive. (She tells me that the the system does not recognize the hard drive.) I have a SATA hard drive we can use, but she can not find the original restore dvd. How can I find a replacement?
Any other suggestions on how to proceed?

I buy a Macbook pro 15".
I loose my DVD (osx).
I can't install osx on my macbook pro because of i don't have the installation disc.
I try to buy another disc on apple store on reunion island, but, the DVD is only for PPC mac, not for Intel mac.
How can i do in order to buy OSX4 installation disc for macbook pro ?

You'll probably need to call Apple tech support for your area. They can sell you a new set of installation disks. I'm not sure what area would handle Reunion Island, but you can find a list of Apple phone numbers here, and perhaps you can find one that would seem logical. Reunion Island being, unless I'm mistaken, a French territory, you might have to call the French Apple support number.

Separate Apple Hardware Test DVD for MacBook Pro original??

Hey Folks, I'm trying to verify whether or not the MacBook Pro came with the Apple Hardware Test as a separate DVD disk. The "MacBook Pro" Install disk references it but I can't seem to find the software on that DVD. Any guesses out there would be appreciated. I'm about to perform an upgrade for Tiger to Leopard and wnat to give my laptop the "hairy eyeball" before I begin.

Insert the DVD and start up the computer with the D key held down. The Hardware Test is on a separate area of the DVD and isn't normally accessible.

The new Macbook Pros do not come with installation or operating system disks.
If you are using Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows in Mountain Lion, read and follow the installation instructions. Downloading the Windows support software is one of the first options in the Boot Camp Assistant memu. There is no Mountain Lion disk containing the support software.

I recently purchased a 1.83ghz Macbook Pro from a friend. The system works great. The only problem is, he lost the orginal reinstall discs. Other than ebay, cna it be purchased from Apple without gettinh "hit in the head" price wise. I've seen some unused reinstall discs on ebay, but they were more recent macbook pros'. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, hoping someone can help with a small situation, my son while apparently showing off what the ipad can do with a few friends managed to reset the thing. wont lull you to sleep whit his seemingly sensible at the time reasoning, suffice to say I now have two choices reload a years worth of information manually or restore from a previous back-up. my last save was at the begining of august and since then have had to use the good old command R trick,(another by junior still gotta love the kid ) so my password was saved on a now deleted hard drive and was hoping to somehow bypass or redo the pass word to save a little time. is it possible or am I on a seek and find through my app library?

I no longer have the software disk (OS10.5) that came with my MBP in July 2009. I only have the $10 Snow Leopard disk from Apple, which does NOT seem to contain any Apple Hardware Test (AHT). I have tried starting while holding d or option keys to no avail. Does neither my laptop nor OS 10.6 install disk have AHT? If not, can the appropriate AHT be obtained? My wife has an older MacBook & her original 10.5 install disk, but it will not launch AHT in my MBP. Any suggestions?

I like the advice to contact Apple and simplky pay for a new AHT. I did that, giving them the serial number of my MBP and indicating it was a June 2009 model, 2.66 gHz Core 2. However .....
I received yet another Apple FedEx shipmet with yet another different Mac OS X Leopard install DVD; this makes three in all!! Just as with the 1st DVD, these two will NOT mount on my desktop, are NOT seen by Disk Utility (or by Drive Genius) and cannot boot my MBP laptop in either of 4 different modes: (1) start-up with "d" (2) start-up with "option d" (3) start-up with "option" (4) start-up with "c". Apparently none of the disks I received have Apple Hardware Test on them, although that is what I paid for in early December. It may be that the last two disks really do have Mac OS X Leopard on them, but because I am now running OS 10.7.5 (purchased from App store with no AHT), the disks cannot be seen by my laptop.
          The two most recent incorrect DVDs I received have the following part numbers:
                    SRF2Z691-6037-A [indicated on packing slip 10.5 Retail-International]
                    SRF2Z679-6341-A (indicated on packing slip 10.5.6 Retail (PCrly 09) In]
          I happen to have MacTracker app 7.2.1. It indicates that my laptop is a MacBookPro 5,3 model A1286 EMC2325 and requires Apple Hardware Test 3A171. Apple never sent me the correct AHT.
          I suspect that Apple's cost to ship 3 incorrect DVDs by 1- or 2-day FedEx vastly exceeds the $17.44 price I paid for a working version of AHT for my computer, but have yet to receive.

I changed my password a few days ago, and now I cannot remember it. My disk has the same new password, so i cannot use the disk. Help?

When you see the Apple logo, release the keys.
Wait until OS X Utilities window shows up.

Terminal window will appear.
Type in resetpassword and press enter on the keyboard.
Leave the Terminal window open.
Reset Password Utility window will open with Macintosh HD selected.
Select the user account from the popup menu box under “Select user account”.
Enter a new password.
Reenter the new password for the user.
Enter a hint.
Click the "Save" button.
Click  in the menubar and select Restart.
Log in.

Wrong question, as there has been no formal revision number issued by Apple. What you may have seen on some postings about revision C, D, etc. is probably no more than rumor.
You can get some information about the place and date of production of your computer by selecting the "Blue Apple" in your menu bar, then selecting About this Mac. Press More, then look at your serial number.
My serial number is W8612xxxxx..
"W8" lists the production location in China.
"612" means that my MBP was produced in the 12th week of 2006.
One of the defects in early production runs was a noisy inverter for the LCD screen. It's likely that that was a parts problem that was remedied in progress of production. My "week 12" MBP has no problems at all.
My MBP runs a bit hot, but within specs. For that matter, I found the TiBook it replaced was uncomfortably warm as a laptop. There's a simple remedy if you want work in laptop mode. Just put something -- a notebook, a rigid plastic sheet a few millimeters thick or the like -- under the MBP and you (and the computer) will be more comfortable.
