How to find mt fastest USB port?

Sorry, although this isn't exactly related, I hope this group is the closest to the subject!
I use an Arch/LXDE based network to sync (using rsync) photos between an external USB card reader and an external USB hard drive.
The manual of the netbook states that all three USB ports are USB2, yet, from the output of the lsusb (below), it seems only one of the ports is indeed USB version 2 (and the rest are 1.1..).
1. Am I right?
2. If Y, how can I find the fastest port?
Thanks

This will disable USB2 and attach the dongle to one of these USB1 controllers. Provided that it supports USB1 - many devices are USB2-only.

I am a senior citizen newbie to apple.  I have just downloaded my pictures to my Mac Pro.  How do I remove the usb port without damaging anything.  I know I shouldn't just pull it out.

The iphone is a "plug and play" device.  It is safe to unplug it without "ejecting it".  If you want to be sure it is safe open itunes and under devices next to your iphone you should see the eject symbol like a line with an up arrow above it, click that.  Once you no longer see the iphone listed under devices it'll be safe to remove.

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!   First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 15 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that didn't work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
If that still didn't get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
A bad internal PRAM battery can also cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!   Also, here is Apple doc.#88338 on getting FireWire to work.
    Here's another Fw Faq.

  • Does anyone know how to comunicate with a USB port using labview 6?

Does anyone know how to comunicate with a USB port using labview 6?

Unfortunately, there is no way to communicate directly with a USB port before LabVIEW 7.0 and VISA 3.0. With the new releases, there are functions called "VISA USB Control In" and "VISA USB Control Out" that give you direct access to a USB port.
You can definitely communicate with DAQ, Serial, or GPIB devices that are connected through a USB port, though. This is done seamlessly through the NI-DAQ, NI-Serial, and NI-488.2 drivers.

Your computer has USB 2.0 ports. You can use USB 3.0 devices with it, but at the speed of USB 2.0.

  • How to find out which usb is the fastest

How can you find out which usa port is the fastest, using a mypassport for my  backup photos??

It's called a USB (Universal Serial Bus).
All the USB ports operate within a given speed range. You have USB2.0 on your iMac. All your USB2 ports operate at the same speed up to 480MB/sec. Realistically you'll only see ~300MB/Sec.
Pick a port and use your backup drive.

  • How can I find/fix bad USB Port on MBP 2012 ivy 15' WITH SUPERDRIVE

I have a 2012 15' ivy bridge macbook pro with the super drive. I am a DJ and I get terrible static and other audio problems when the mixer/soundcard is connected to one of the USB ports, how can I determine which one it is and how can I fix it?

You'll just have to test your USB ports and see if you have a 'good' one - if not, take your machine and your equipment into your local Apple Store and let them 'hear' the problems with the USB port(s). There have been a number of posts here with problems using the USB 3.0 ports with various devices - usually USB 3.0 devices. Since the release of Mountain Lion, I've not read of many USB problems, though, with the 2012 machines. There have been some other problems reported with ML (not enough time on battery seems to be the main glitch but it's a problem that is not tied to certain models - just seems hit and miss).
You might want to try the ML upgrade and see if that fixes the problems - if not, it's time for a trip to the Apple Store.

  • How can I test the usb port on my Time Capsule to see if it is working?

Ever since lightening struck nearby (which took out our internet and copy machine) the printer I had connected to the usb port on my Time Capsule in my office has has failed to print through the TC. I can plug the printer directly into my MacBookAir and can print just fine. So there is nothing wrong with the printer nor the usb cable.
I've turned off and unplugged the printer with the usb cable connected & disconnected to the TC, no change. I've unplugged the TC, no change. I've opened the printer utility several times, and always get the "offline" error. I open the print queue, and it says the printer is not connected. I reinstalled the driver for the printer, still the same thing.
I'm starting to wonder if the usb port on my Time Capsule got fried. Any help anyone can give in trying to see if the usb port even functions anymore would be greatly appreciated.
My Time Capsule is model no. A1409.

Power is not likely to be killed .. it is the data components that are more fragile.
So you do have power which as you say is why the USB flashes.. but you don't have signal.
The only other thing you can do is use USB powered hub.. if you have one handy.. but I would not go out and buy one.
A damaged board is impossible (at cost less than replacement TC) to repair. And repairers do not like working on stuff damaged by lightning as components that did survive were stressed.. the transistor junctions become liable to fail at any time.. so you repair it and it just keeps coming back as not working. Sorry if you cannot use it without USB junk it and buy a replacement. A second hand Gen3 is about the best of them it seems.
You can also buy an ethernet to USB print server.. but a new ethernet or wireless network printer is probably near to the same price.
You can hunt ebay for second hand USB print servers.. or airport express, extreme or TC.. often you can find something suitable for just a few dollars if you shop well. Since you don't need the latest greatest to do this sort of job.. and people are disposing of things like USB print servers as soon as they buy network printers.

  • How do i configure the usb port on a draytek vigor 2820n router for use with my imac

i have an imac connected to the internet through a draytek vigor 2820n router. this router has a USB port with a HP Deskjet 5560 printer attached (for use as a network printer for other machines on the network). How do I configure this printer on the iMAC?

  • How to DIY-repair fried USB ports on Mac mini?

Accidentally I fried (or so it seems) all the four USB ports of a Mac mini 2 GHz Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz 2 GB 160 GB SuperDrive AirPort Extreme Bluetooth (released by Apple on August 2007) with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. It was after connecting an iPhone AD/DC to power a USB hub.
I can access the machine using a wireless keyboard but the USB keybord or any other USB device is not recognized when plugged into the USB ports of such Mac mini.
I know that I can carry the Mac mini to a repair service or switching the main logic board, but it costs more than the current price of the machine!
I was thinking of some kind of DIY, even if it requires soldering... Any ideas to replace the fried USB ports with new ones?
Note: the USB ports and main logic board seem OK after visual inspection, but I guess that the former are fried since resetting the PRAM and SMC did not work.
    Thanks.

DIY soldering repairs are pretty much out of the question.
Most, if not all, IC's that would be related to the problem
are of the BGA (ball grid array) variety and require special
equipment to remove and replace as all the connections
    are under the IC.
The only DIY alternative would be to purchase a logic board
and replace it yourself.  Just Google "mac mini logic board
replacement" for sources and how to's.  Apple themselves,
will not sell you logic boards, so you need to get it from a
third party vendor.  As to which ones are are the most reputable,
I cannot really say.  I would suggest avoiding any Ebay offers
    that are not reputable retailers.
As usual, be aware that if a price on such an item is too
good to be true, it probably isn't.

  • HT2412 How would one enable the USB ports to always be providing power?

I have a USB NIC and would like to be able to use WOL as the on-board NIC does not support WOL in powered off state. Is there a way to enable USB ports always powered on? This feature is available on Lenovo laptops.

I see, I'd recommed resetting the SMC and PRAM. Please do both 2x each and follow the instructions below to the letter:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I see you have tried these but it doesn't hurt to do them again. Your machine is covered by a 1 year warranty which will cover any hardware problems. If you havne't already I'd strongly recommend getting AppleCare. This will extend the warranty to 3 years from the original date of purchase and also provide 3 years of phone support. You can get it directly from Apple or you can find it discounted by buying from some authorized Apple resellers such as Amazon and LA Computer Company.

  • How can I disable my USB port?

I need to temporarly disable my USB ports on my powerbook.

    For what reason ever..
IF this is possible then I would take a deep look at the developer tools. Inside the /Developer/Applications folder is a USB device tool ( designed to develop and test USB drivers/software ) .
Only other way would be geeky hacking on the open firmware prompt, but I don't know the aliases or command that would be needed. You will however need to digg very deep inside the technical side of a Macintosh and get an understanding how OF and the Hardware Abstraction layer in OS X works and maybe unload manually some critical kernel extensions on boot-time.
    Good Luck.

  • How do I use the USB port on my MBP for audio output

I am a fairly new commercial sound provider running live sound and the occassional itunes type playback at events.  I currently use a Y cable from the headphone output of my MBP osX  into the RCA inputs on my audio mixer.  On an older HP laptop I was able to use a USB output into the USB input of the mixer and the sound was a lot better in quality. I wish to do the same using the new MBP but when I plugged into the right side USB port I received no audio output.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks howardfrom nh.

Have you gone into the Sound/Output system preferences to see if your mixer shows up there as a valid output device and if it does selected it there? If it doesn't appear, have you confirmed with the manufacturer of your mixer that it is compatible with Macs and if so asked if there are any drivers you need to install?

  • How to find out on wich port BI Publisher is running?

    Hello,
I have the following situation: Windows XP, Oracle Database 10.2.0.3, APEX 3.0, Application Server 10.1.3.1 (Advanced, J2EE-Server and Web-Server) and Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.2.1 (Advanced, Setup-Type Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher).
The HTTP-Server and BI Publisher are running.
Now I want to configure APEX for PDF-printing. How I can find out the port on wich BI Publisher is running?
I need it for the attribut "Print Server Port" in APEX Instance settings.
    Thanks and regards,
    Susanne

    Hi Susanne,
I think the default port for BI Publisher is 9704
There are a couple of things you can do to find the port that BI Publisher is running on. The easiest is to navigate Start -> All Programs -> Oracle - BIPHome1 -> BI Publisher Server.
This will bring up the homepage for BI Publisher in a web browser. The url for this page will contain the port for BI Publisher: http://localhost:9704/xmlpserver.
The other way is to open a dos prompt and type netstat -abThis will show you all ports and the applications running on them. BI Publisher will be one of the ones with java.exe running.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Cj
