How to "find my lost ipad"

Question

I'm a teacher who had an ipad issued by my district.  I had purchased and downloaded hundreds of dollars of apps to help my students and to use within my teaching.  I have lost my ipad for weeks now:)  I had left it at school and have not been able to find it.  I regret not telling our IT dept. right away but was sure I simply "hid" it in my room and with the craziness of the first quarter of school, had forgotten where I hid it.  After two weeks of tearing my room upside down, I still cant find it.  If it were stolen (a scenario) I now consider), could I retrieve it at this point or at least find a location?  The ipad was registered and I always was logged in to my i-cloud account.  Help...
