If you set up find my iphone on the iphone itself and it is on and it has not been restored, then you may be able to track it using icloud.
Otherwise you cannot track it at all.
Report it to the police and change your passwords. There is nothing more to do.

I lost my iPod touch and I can't find it! It's been almost a month now. I need help finding my iPod touch, please help?
HOW DID I LOSE IT?
- My dad came back fishing and he left the fishes in a bucket so I went outside to check it out with my iPod touch. I set my iPod touch by the shoes. Later, my mom came back from work, and she told me to wash the dishes. So then I did, but I heard that our relatives were coming over for food (eating fish). I forgot all about my iPod until the next morning. I amuse it was either stolen or I lost it somewhere, I have no clue.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing without a court order

You cannot locate it with the serial number.
IF you activated find my ipod on the ipod itself, BEFORE it was lost, AND it is on, AND it is connected to wi-fi, then you may be able to find the registered street address of the router to which it is connected.

If you set up the Find My iPhone service prior to your iPhone going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPhone is turned on, connected to either the 3G or a WiFi network, or has not had the Find My iPhone service disabled or the iPhone been completely restored). If you can get a location, you can give that information to the police, who may or may not act on it.
If you did not set up Find My iPhone, then there is no way to track it. You've already contacted the police, so the only other thing to do is change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPhone (the iTunes Store, for instance).

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, all a thief or whoever finds it has to do is force the phone into recovery mode & restore it. While this deletes all data on the phone, it also removes the passcode so the phone can then be used as a phone or touch.

If you didn't setup the "Find my iPhone" service on your phone before it was stolen, then you have no chance of finding it. Even if you had, a savvy thief would know how to turn it off or wipe the device to prevent it being found.

I'm a teacher who had an ipad issued by my district. I had purchased and downloaded hundreds of dollars of apps to help my students and to use within my teaching. I have lost my ipad for weeks now:) I had left it at school and have not been able to find it. I regret not telling our IT dept. right away but was sure I simply "hid" it in my room and with the craziness of the first quarter of school, had forgotten where I hid it. After two weeks of tearing my room upside down, I still cant find it. If it were stolen (a scenario) I now consider), could I retrieve it at this point or at least find a location?
