How to find out hard drive disc space?

I would like to find out how much space is left on my hard drive. I know it's probably really easy to find out, and I probably should know how, but I in a pinch with this one.
Thanks

Hi... Urh... there are actually TWO other more easy and accessible ways:
1. Click on your main drive icon on the Desktop, and use keys 'Command' + 'I' to Get Info and a window pops up, telling you more than you need to know, besides disk space usage.
If you have a Mighty Mouse, you can also Right Click on the icon and get the same window pop-up.
2. On the Desktop, go to Top Menu Bar > View > Show View Options (or Command + J) and a window pops up.
Check (tick) the SECOND box - Show item info. Presto, now check your Desktop, all your hard drives icons, iPods, removables etc have an extra line below telling you how much space is used, and how much is Free.

  • How to find out the unused disk space?

    Hi,
I want to know if there is any way possible by which I can find out the amount of disk space that is available. I have to write an application that checks for the disk space under Windows and Unix platforms. If anything is possible please let me know as soon as possible.

I know that there is no Java API for it. I tried using the Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c dir") method to find out the available disk space. But it returns the value through the InputStream which would have to be parsed to get the unused disk space value. If there is a way to write a shell script (for Unix / Linux) and a batch file (for Windows), please do let me know of the same. Also please let me know how to execute the script / batch. Awaiting your reply.

  • How to find out where my storage space is going?

So, I have had this MacBook Pro 2009 for the past year, and it has treated me fairly well, so far! I have a question about my Hard Drive Space:
I purchased my laptop with a 250 GB Hard Drive, so I understand that I should get just over 200 GB's of actual storage space. Now I look and it says I have just about 15 gigs remaining. I was absolutely amazed, as I don't feel that I have an excess of programs, music, videos, or anything else to take up all fo the room. I would like to do 2 things, if I could:
1- I would like to be able to find out exactly where my storage has gone. I realize that I could go through and click on every single file and folder, one by one, to see how big it is, but is there an easier way? For example, I would love to see how much space each of my programs are taking up, or see if maybe I have duplicate videos somewhere, etc. Is there an easy way to do this?
2- I have also noticed that, if I uninstall a program, there is usually something left over in my Libraries folder, and in other places. I'm wondering...is there some sort of a disc cleaner, that will delete unnecessary files, hidden things, stuff like that?
Thanks for any/all help! Any suggestions as to how I can free up space on my HDD would be great.

    1. Disc Inventory X will show you what's using the space.
    2. CleanMyMac will help you delete unwanted and left-over items.

  • Weird Issue: External Hard Drive disc space calculation error

Okay I just started having this weird error as far as calculating disc space. I added everything up and it reached 200GB out of 465GB but the bottom reads as no space left at all!
And when I go into the widget it will read 0 but the bar will show space left.
Any help getting this hard drive to read correctly.

Check this user tip I wrote:

Also, what file system is the hard drive formatted in according to Get Info's Format field? Get Info can be gotten by selecting the drive icon on the desktop and going to File menu -> Get Info, or using Command-I (the letter pronounced "eye". Command is the Apple logo key on your keyboard).
    Also is boot camp installed?

  • Finding out hard drive load cycle count

How can you find out the load cycle count of your hard drive? Is there a program that you must download?

For reference, Hitachi's note on the subject
    http://tinyurl.com/mcx6t
(above takes you to, for those where the long URL displays properly http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/9076679E3EE4003E86256FAB0058 25FB/$file/LoadUnloadwhite_paperFINAL.pdf)
One thing I did not know, but got from that article:
"Parking the heads on the ramp, or “unloading” the heads,
became the foundation of advanced power management
modes including Active Idle, Performance Idle and Low
Power Idle, implemented under Enhanced Adaptive Battery
Life Extender™ (Enhanced ABLE). Usage of Enhanced
ABLE can provide as much as a 20 percent reduction in
power consumption at the drive level."
So, disabling HD sleep should reduce load cycles, I'd guess, at the expense of draining the battery quicker.

  • How to find the hard drive

I have to drag a file to my hard drive and c
    annot find where it is

Click on the Desktop area so you get the Finder and then use the Go menu > Computer if you need to place the file outside your Home folder which isn't usually a normal operation for most.
Click on the Face icon in the Dock, it's the first one on the left (or top) and a window appears showing your Home folder and it's accociated folders where normally is where you place your user files.
It's best to keep your users files in the Home folders, then into Pictures, Movies, Documents, Music etc., so that way they stay organized and once you get a lot of files, you will forget  having so many of them there.
So keeping it organized makes it easy later if you need to backup or so other things like recover, moving them or deleting the account with all your files, like as to give the computer to someone else to use.

  • How do I find out the hard drive memory space on a 2006 MacBook?

Hey guys, so I have a MacBook that is running IOS X 10.6.8 and is a 2006. I have been wondering how to check your hard drive space since I bought it on Craigslist. I just want to verify how much space this thing has. And also, since i'm 15 i'm looking to save some moey on a new battery and was wodering if anyone can guide me through buying a new one on eBay. Thanks!!

To see how much room you have on your hard drive right click (Control key + Click) and select Get Info from the drop down menu.and check Available.
If you have an Early 2006 White or Black plastic MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody use the same battery.

  • How to reinstall a hard drive on a mac pro that was accidentally dragged out of Finder

How to reinstall a hard drive on a mac pro that was accidentally dragged out of Finder?  I have files on this drive that I don't want to loose or corrupt.

If you mean you dragged the hard drive shortcut out of the sidebar of a Finder window, you're quite all right - that's just a shortcut and you haven't lost any files. You can get it back by going to Finder preferences (the Finder menu, then Preferences), click Sidebar, and tick the "hard drives" box fully to show all hard drives.
Post back if you did something different though.

  • How to find out web-inf path from the physical drive?

How to find out web-inf path from the physical drive?
I have some user profiles in web-inf directory.SO I want to know the path from root directory like
    d:/program files/allaire/jrun/appname/web-inf/profiles/username like that.
Presently I am able to get the path upto the application directory and from that I am concatinationg web-inf/profiles/username .
But it is giving problems when it is deployed under unix or linux.Because web-inf there it treats as WEB_INF
SO I want to get the path of web-inf directory with out hard coding.
    Thanku

    String path = application.getRealPath("/WEB-INF/profiles/username");
Note sure why you need this, but you don't need the real path to read the file - you can get an InputStream using the relative path. See ServletContext getResource() and getResourceAsStream().

  • Need help finding lost hard drive space on my Power Mac G4

I have a Power Mac G4 that is just about out of hard drive space. Why? I have no idea. I only have about 7 MB left of the 512 MB that came on the machine. I have backed up most pictures, documents, etc... to an external hard drive and have barely anything left on the desk top. Does anyone know what might be working 'behind the scenes' to eat up hard drive space or what I can do to gain any back? I'm not a huge 'techie' so any advice past 'empty the trash' would probably be helpful.
Thanks very much for anything you can do for me.
    Tony

I believe you mean GB instead of MB when referring to hard drive size/space.

  • How do i Check Hard Drive space in OS X Mavericks?

I don't know how to check my hard drive space, how much space I have left? On Mountain Lion i just checked it on Activity monitor. Now everything's just charts and graphs on activity monitor. Can someone please tell me how i can check ((((NUMBERS NOT CHARTS OR GRAPHS)))) how much space my hard drive has left?
    Thanks

Showing the status bar does NOT always show the disk space available.
I can open a new Finder window, and if it opens without the toolbar, there's no 'disk space available' to be seen anywhere.  In the status bar there's just the title of the window, repeated.  In the path bar, there's the path.  But nowhere is the disk space available to be seen.  The "show status bar" command under the View menu has already been selected -- if you go to the View menu you will see only "Hide Status Bar".
But - if you show the toolbar (View > Show Toolbar) and then hide it again - voila - the disk space is now to be seen in the status bar at the top, though it wasn't there before you toggled the toolbar view.
This is a Mavericks design bug, which - maybe - will get fixed, somewhere along the line.

  • How can I find out the percentage of space taken up by a vector in a document?

    Hi all,
I've been doing visual research over the last couple of years, and part of this has resulted in hundreds of in-design documents with vectors of varying sizes in each. Essentially, I'm hoping to find a quick way to find out the percentage of space occupied by these vectors. I can't figure out how to go in to each document and find the info on the selected vector. I know that Photoshop has options to see pixels when using selection tools, but I've found this both cumbersome and inaccurate.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,
