How to find out if J2EE Engine is PROD or TEST or DEV System

Hi,
I want to get the system state / system type (even if si PROD or TEST or DEVELOP system) of the J2EE-Engine at runtime, because to use different properties.
How can I find this information and how can I get this info in Java?

we use: SAP Web AS 6.40 SP 13 (Netweaver 2004)

Hi Gianluca,
one method I found is "to ask" System.getProperty("j2ee.dbhost") or System.getProperty("SAPSYSTEMNAME"), but I don't know if it is the right way.
So I must store the servernames in my properties (f.e.
dev=mypcname
test=testservername
a.s.o.)
but I think there must be a method to configure the server, that I can ask it and the answer is "PROD" or "TEST" and I not must know the servernames...

I want to find out SAP J2EE Patch Level for 2004s installation i tried to get information from SYSTEM INFORMATION link on WAS homepage but it gave only version :7.00 details and PATCH LEVEL was not mentioned .
I also tried to find out by looking into VERSION.TXT file for server & dispatcher in ....USR\SAP\J2E.....engine installation but again no details about PatchLevel was mentioned can anyone provide some information regarding what is the PatchLevel for WAS 7.0 , J2SE used is 1.4.2_09

How to Find out what are the top 20 queries executed in the system

Hi Guru's,
I would like to know how to gather the information regarding the Top 20 queries used in the system per week, by a multicube.
Note: I am using BI 7.0 and also Statistics are turned on.
People have provided me the Cube name and table name last time but nothing seems to work.
I do not have the query names and I just have my multiprovider name and with the help of that, I want to find out what are all the queries which were executed related to that multiprovider.

Here is an idea for your request.
Basically you can create a simple query on multiprovider 0TCT_MC01.
Filter: you can use a variable for restriction of time ( calday, or calmonth) since you should be interested for a time period.
Choose following characters into your objects:
InfoProvider ( 0TCTIFPROV ) - you can create a variable for choosing infoprovider before query runs.
*Tp.[Type of BI Application Object] 0TCTBISOTYP = filter this with 'QUERY' or whatever your need is.
*BI Application Object 0TCTBISBOBJ, ( this will give you the name of the queries)
In key figures choose, Count for BI Appl. (0TCTWTCOUNT).
(number for query run)
Create a condition , for top 20.

That you can't really do. A backupserver can be used by multiple ASE servers and doesn't maintain any permanent registry of servers it is used by. From a connection to ASE, you can do a SYB_BACKUP....sp_who remote procedure call to get some information on current activity on the backupserver, but the information is pretty limited.

My ASE's name is REL157SP1xx_bret_sun2, so you aren't even getting the full name of the ASE backupserver is currently working with. I had just booted the backupserver, so the Site Handler was started to handle the RPC call, it doesn't even mean that server had ever dumped a database.
While you can connect to the backpserver directly with a client, the backupserver does not have a command language processor, so any commands you send directly to backupserver (as opposed to rpc calls) will only get the response "no language handler installed", like this:

That is why the (polite) way of shutting down a backupserver is to issue
"shutdown SYB_BACKUP" from a client logged into an ASE. (the impolite

How to REALLY monitor a J2EE-engine?

We recently started implementing an EP 6.0 project as well as a NWDI infrastructure to develop some thing for Internet Sales on CRM 2005.
I installed a NW2004s SR1 and patched the instance up to SP7 - so latest and greatest.
However, doing a search for "exception" in the log directory I get a number of 201670 (yes, you've read right).
Using the logviewer I see on each start and during runtime ~ 200 - 300 exceptions that are getting thrown, some of them often, some of them only one - so I counted about 80 - 90 different exceptions.
How should I as an administrator find out, which ones of them are crucial for the application, what is a real error and what is just an exception, because something is installed but not (yet) configured?
Setting up NetWeaver Administrator will not help much since I would get 90 mails every day with different errors and I would see there also those 90 different errors.
How to distinguish between relevant/irrelevant exceptions/errors? There's no source code around and I doubt, that it's necessary for an administrator, to learn the full J2EE API just to get those informations. It can't also be that I need to create OSS calls to get an answer from the development.
Where is some documentation what part of the engine is used where, what errors can be ignored and which of them needs to be followed?

I was in ramp up for 630 J2EE and starting from the beginning it was clear that ERROR means there is some type of error that can even be of user cause and so ERROR was a rubbish thing to monitor (a bit like looking for red messages in SM21).
We don´t have many "red messages" in SM21 - and if, then there is really a problem (like a dump)
However, right from the start I have been alerting on CRITICAL errors as these mean trouble. Seems to work well..

I gave up on Java.
We run the instances and in case of a problem we restart all affected Java systems subsequently until the error vanishes because trying to "find" an error in a federated portal network (with some scenarios 6 or 7 machines affected) is not only cumbersome and very time consuming but in most cases meaningless because the support needs a reproducibility, a case, otherwise they can´t help - and recommend to "install the latest support packages". This is also true for production system. In case I open a prio-1 call I don´t only got hold off sleep because they are working on the call 24 h but we finally end in restarting the engines though.
There´s one call open since June 2006 - which is now two years old - about the dependencies in the packages and how to find out which service/applications needs which, to monitor only the really necessary ones. Since the development itself is not able to tell which dependencies they generate then, well, it´s better for everyones nerves and finally health to "just reboot" as you were (and maybe are) doing with Windows boxes if they don´t behave as they should. Maybe it´s by design/defnition like this, I don´t know.
We´re now in the process of putting all Java instances onto clusters to do an automatic switchover so the instances get restarted every few days and we avoid any problems that are caused by instances running too long.
I wish there was another solution or an idea of how to deal with that - I don´t know how others handle that but I have to take of about 50 instances (ABAP + Java) so I don´t just have the time of collecting dozens of logfiles of half a dozen machines and open an OSS call try to explain someone at the other side of the world in a foreign language (english is not my native language) what´s happening. The problem starts with "in which component do I open the call?"

then execute the

Go to directory which contains weblogic.jar ($WL_HOME\server\lib) and run below command
$WL_HOME\wlserver_10.3\server\lib>java -cp weblogic.jar weblogic.version

I have one database. This database is with 7 schemas. Around 1000 triggers are associated with each schema. But the application is using only some triggers.
How to find out the used triggers? Apllications is developed in J2EE.
Same way I want to find out the for Packages/Procedures and Functions.
Any easy way is available?

Get "404 Not Found" after deployment. How to find out correct URL?

To the experienced:
In preparing to deploy my application, I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 to deploy the application to the standalone oc4j server that is included in JDeveloper. After the deployment, I get the "404 Not Found" error when trying to invoke the application in a browser. The deployment looks OK, becasue the log window in JDeveloper showed no error when running deployment from inside JDeveloper. Therefore I guess the question is how to find out the correct URL to invoke the application. The steps I took in doing the deployment are as follows.
I first installed the standalone oc4j by running the <jdev_home>\jdev\bin\start_oc4j .bat file. The installation is OK because I deployed the SRTutorial applcation and invoked it in a browser successfully.
The WAR file was created by right-clicking the ViewController project and select to create a WAR file. To the application's Context Root its own name, I typed "ZB" in the box for the context root.
Then in ViewController -> Resources, right_click the deployment file (ZBOV.deploy) and chose "Deploy to" the local_standalone_oc4j. The messages in JDeveloper's log window for the deployment are all clean without errors.
I then used this url to invoke the deployed application in a browser:
http://localhost:8888/ZB/faces/staff/login.jspx
But I got an "404 Not Found" error. Right away I tried invoking the SRTutorial application, and it runs fine.
login.jspx is one of the pages for the appllication. In the application navigator, it is located with other files in the ViewController/Web Content/staff folder, therefore I used /staff/login.jspx after ZB/faces.
What could be wrong? If the deployment is actually successful, how to find out the correct url to invoke the application?

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it but got the same error.
I tried it by first undeploying the application using the enterprise manager page (which is also part of the oc4j included in JDeveloper). I select the application and clicked the undeploy link, confirmed that I wanted to remove it. And it was removed.
Then in JDeveloper, I right-clicked the ViewController, and in the properties of the probject selected "J2EE Application" and then selected "Use Custom Settings", then in the "J2EE Web Context Root" box I entered "ZB". Created the deployment profile again, overwriting the existing one, and then right-clicked the ZB.deploy node to deploy to the standalone oc4j on the localhost. And I used the url:
http://localhost:8888/ZB/faces/staff/login.jspx
And I got the same "404 Not Found" error.
There was no error at the time of deployment using the ZB.deploy profile. On the enterprise manager page, the path of the deployed application is given as /C:/jdev10134/j2ee/home/applications/ZB.ear, and the folder of the deployed application is there. Question is: if the deployment is actually OK, can the correct URL be found in some file somewhere in the folder?
All ideas and suggestions are very much appreciated!

I am not aware of any spec defined way of finding out such info. There may be vendor specific APIs or mechanisms.
But you can use environment entries in your deployment descriptors to specify the information and make use of the entries inside your j2ee component. That will make your code platform neutral.

How to find out web-inf path from the physical drive?
I have some user profiles in web-inf directory.SO I want to know the path from root directory like
d:/program files/allaire/jrun/appname/web-inf/profiles/username like that.
Presently I am able to get the path upto the application directory and from that I am concatinationg web-inf/profiles/username .
But it is giving problems when it is deployed under unix or linux.Because web-inf there it treats as WEB_INF
SO I want to get the path of web-inf directory with out hard coding.

Note sure why you need this, but you don't need the real path to read the file - you can get an InputStream using the relative path. See ServletContext getResource() and getResourceAsStream().

I want to know how to find out the user exit that matches to the requirement. Suppose for a material master program, there are so many include programs hence im unable to find call custer-function and even unable to debug an appropriate include. Please help me out how to learn user exits in a rightious way.

Look for program SAPICSS_ in your system and run it. This program can also be found under CMOD menu: Utilities -> SAP enhancements.
This will only give you the CMOD user exits.
There is a program someone made that searches for all sorts of user-exits (including BADI's etc.). I remember that it was posted on sapfans.com
