  • How do I find out what is using up the majority of my 128GB storage

I am at full capacity on my 128GB MacBook Air, I initially thought that I was using it up with photos but evidently after looking in "About my mac", then "More info" and then "storage" which gives me a crude break down of what my storage is being used for. I am only using 48GB for photos and a little for music, then the rest is classed as "Other". What is this other?!?!? And how can I get rid of it?
Hope someone can shed some light of this?!
    Thanks in advance :-)

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning your files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How do I find out what "Other" is, in the "About this Mac", storage details bar graph?

My new Mac Book Pro with 250 GB Flash Storage is already full with only adding a few apps. I purchased the new Final Cut Pro X, but store all video data on an external drive. Whats up? Why is 146 GB used up with "Other"? What is "Other!?" How can I find out the details of what's in other, and get rid of what I don't want or use?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.

To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.

    Oracle version 8.1.7

Assuming that [auditing was enabled|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/security.htm#sthref2916], the command
AUDIT CONNECT WHENEVER NOT SUCCESSFULThat will write audit records when there is an unsuccessful login. Depending on how you've configured auditing, those records will either be written to the SYS.AUD$ table, in which case you can query them through a few different views, or to a file on the operating system that you can grep.

  • HT4623 how do i find out what is taking up the most stoarge on iphone 4?

how do i find out what is taking up the most storage on iphone 4?

    Hi,
Actually the real space it needs for download and upgrade it's a bit bigger, few more than 4Gb. Make sure you sync with iTunes so you don't loose anything. Moreover, you can safely delete any app because you can download it later on as it is linked to your Apple ID.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is it possible and how to find out what host, if any, is connected to a remote PXI prior to switching execution target programmatically or in devlopment environment?

Is it possible and how to find out what host, if any, is connected to a remote PXI prior to switching execution target programmatically or in devlopment environment?

This functionality is not available in LabVIEW RT. If you attempt to switch execution target to an RT controller already targetted by someone else, it will tell you too many hosts are connected and fail. Of course if it allows you to switch, then no one was connected. By attempting to switch execution target you can use the message above to determine if anyone is targetted or not, but if someone is, there is no way to determine who.
If you are concerned about this sort of thing, you might check the RT target options in LabVIEW RT to change the IP access list for hosts that are allowed to switch execution target to it.

  • "Web'n'Walk III" Huawei dongle, how to find out what Huawei model it is?

I just bought this "web 'n' walk III" UMTS Modem (USB) made by Huawei. I want to instal it but do not know if the enclosed software is out of date (MobileConnectDriver(2.9.2)) and works under SL. Does anybody know how I find out what type of Huawei dangle it is so I can find the correct software?
any tips as to how to use this smoothly as the stick is to SIM locked and I will use it with a SIM from an other provider (Stick is branded by T-Mobile).

I worked out the model number, it is 'hidden' in small print on the back, in a larger number.

  • How to find out what is the lock key for the computer

How to find out what is the lock key for the computer?

    You don't.
If you forgot or lost the password, all you can practically do is reset it.
The manner in which you do so depends on what version of OS X you are running. The older versions utilize the reset password utility on your recovery/re-installation disk/drive.
On Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:
Boot to your Lion Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. Select your administrators username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password. Restart the computer from the apple menu.

    Hi,
Could anyone tell me how to find out what Oracle version is on your AIX/Unix machine? It looks like Oracle Installer doesn't use the native OS installation(installp, pkgadd) process, so I can't use lslpp/pkginfo to find out what filesets are installed.
