How to find the first occurrence of a string2 in string1

Hello
I've got a string, and I want to know where '-' occurs
the first time. I mean, in 'hello-world', the first
one is position 5.
In C++, I've got:
Result      = strcspn(string1, string2);
How can I do it in Java?
Thank you very much.

    hi
    How i can find which is the first block in a multi block form....
    ( there are n number of forms with multi blocks...so

    If you searched in the on-line help for "First", you would find that the Get_Form_Property built-in provides two: First_Block and First_Navigation_Block.

  • How to find the First Modified record

    Hi,
    I have one table with the fields ID, branch and modified_date.
    here nothing is unique. How can I modify a record with new
    branch name of a perticular id(will have multiple) where
    modified date is oldest.
    here date is time stamp.
    Though I created with date and time it is showing only date not
    time when I query.
    Ex:
    1, Eng, 10-10-1999 10:10:10('mm-dd-yyyy hh:mi:ss')
    1, Mat, 10-10-1999 10:10:09
    is there any way to get this (1, Mat, 10-10-1999 10:10:09)
    record.
    Thanks in advance,
    Srini.

    There are a few ways to do this ...
    i) Start by writing code to identify the lowest modified_date
    for each ID ...
    select ID, min(modified_date)
    from my_table group by ID
    Then, since the result of a query is logically the same as a
    table, you could do either ...
    select * from my_table where (ID, modified_date) in
    select ID, min(modified_date)
    from my_table group by ID
    ... or ...
    select t1.ID, t1.branch, t1.modified_date
    from my_table t1,
    select ID, min(modified_date) min_modified_date
    from my_table group by ID
    ) t2
    where t1.ID = t2.ID and t1.modified_date =
    t2.min_modified_date
    ii) You could create the requirement that no lower
    modified_date should exist for a particular ID ...
    select t1.ID, t1.branch, t1.modified_date
    from my_table t1
    where not exists (
    select 0 from my_table t2 where t2.ID = t1.ID and
    t2.modified_date < t1.modified_date)
    iii) if you can guarantee the existence of an index defined on
    the ID and modified_date columns (called my_index in this
    example) you could do ...
    select t1.ID, t1.branch, t1.modified_date
    from my_table t1
    where t1.modified_date = (
    select /*+ index_asc (my_table my_index) */
    t2.modified_date from my_table t2 where t2.ID = t1.ID and
    rownum = 1)
    You should test each of these options with your own data
    set and see which works best for you. Some of them will
    return the first matching rows of data very quickly but take
    longer to return all of them, while others take a long time to
    return the first rows but find the full set faster.
    Make sure you run ANALYZE on your table whatever you do.

  • How to find the number of occurance of a string in text field of Infopath form?

    Hi All,
    In Infopath text field, How to find the number of occurrence of a particular string in that field?
    Thanks in advance!

    You can check to see if it contains a string once by using the contains function, but there isn't a very clean way to do what you want. If you wanted to guess at the maximum number of occurrences, then you could:
    Box A has your initial. Set Box B to do a concat of string-before and string-after of Box A where it copies Box A minus the string we're looking for. Then we have Box C that does the same thing to Box B. Repeat as many times as you see necessary.
    Example:
    String: "1"
    Box A - "123451234512345"
    Box B - "23451234512345"
    Box C - "2345234512345"
    Box D - "234523452345"
    etc.
    We then have a field that has nested ifs looking backwards from Z -> A looking for a non-blank. Based on that, we return the number of occurrences. Again, this isn't clean, but it will work if you think there's a predefinable maximum.

  • How to find the number of references created for a given  object ??

    How to find the number of references created for a given object in a big application environment.
    That means, if i give any object name (of my application) as input, then how can i find the[b] number of references created for that particular object ??

    Please do not post the same question multiple times.
    As for your original question, there is no direct way to do it.
    Especially not the way you phrased it,
    since objects don't have "names".
    Applications also don't have "names".
    They have classes and instances.
    Also, there are 2 related issues, and I'm not sure which one is the one you asked.
    #1. Finding the number of references to the same object.
    Eg.
    Map<String,String> a = new HashMap<String,String>();
    Map<String,String> b = new HashMap<String,String>();
    Map<String,String> c = a;In this case, there are only 2 objects.
    The first object has (at least) 2 references pointing to it.
    The second object has (at least) 1 reference pointing to it.
    (There may be more, if the HashMap library keeps
    references to these things, or if the HashMap object has
    some internal cyclic references...)
    If you're asking this, then it can't be done.
    It's an active research topic in universities
    and software research labs, called "alias analysis".
    Type it in google, and you'll see people are working hard
    and having little success so far.
    #2. Finding the number of instances created from a class.
    In this case, what you have to do is to add a counter to
    the constructor of the class. Every time an object is constructed,
    you increment the counter. Like this:
       class MyClass
           public static int counter = 0;
           public MyClass( )  { counter++; }
        // Then later in your program, you can do this:
        MyClass a = new MyClass();
        MyClass b = new MyClass();
        System.out.println(MyClass.counter); // It should show 2Note: you won't be able to do this to every class in the system.
    For every class you care about, you have to modify its constructor.
    Also: when an object is deleted, you won't always know it
    (and thus you won't always be able to decrement the counter).
    Finalizers cannot always work (read Joshua Bloch's
    "Effective Java" book if you don't believe me), but basically
    (1) finalizers will not always be called, and
    (2) finalizers can sometimes cause objects to not be deleted,
    and thus the JVM will run out of memory and crash

    Hi Vinayak,
         you will be having your first program values in internal table or some variables,
        when you are calling the second program you wii use like this,
        SUBMIT <Second Program Name> USING SELECTION-SCREEN '1000'
                           WITH s_emp(second program select-options)   IN t_emp(first program variables)
                           WITH p_chk   EQ t_chk

                           WITH p_r2    EQ t_r2
                           WITH s_cust2 IN t_cust2
                           WITH s_week  IN t_week
                           AND RETURN.
    you have pas like this to get your first program details.

  • How to find the level of each child table in a relational model?

    Earthlings,
    I need your help and I know that, 'yes, we can change'. Change this thread to a answered question.
    So: How to find the level of each child table in a relational model?
    I have a relacional database (9.2), all right?!
         O /* This is a child who makes N references to each of the follow N parent tables (here: three), and so on. */
        /↑\ Fks
       O"O O" <-- level 2 for first table (circle)
      /↑\ Fks
    "o"o"o" <-- level 1 for middle table (circle)
       ↑ Fk
      "º"Tips:
    - each circle represents a table;
    - red tables no have foreign key
    - the table in first line of tree, for example, has level 3, but when 3 becomes N? How much is N? This's the question.
    I started thinking about the following:
    First I have to know how to take the children:
    select distinct child.table_name child
      from all_cons_columns father
      join all_cons_columns child
    using (owner, position)
      join (select child.owner,
                   child.constraint_name fk,
                   child.table_name child,
                   child.r_constraint_name pk,
                   father.table_name father
              from all_constraints father, all_constraints child
             where child.r_owner = father.owner
               and child.r_constraint_name = father.constraint_name
               and father.constraint_type in ('P', 'U')
               and child.constraint_type = 'R'
               and child.owner = 'OWNER') aux
    using (owner)
    where child.constraint_name = aux.fk
       and child.table_name = aux.child

    Justin,
    Understood.

  • How to find the most matched values in the set of map?

    Hi friends!
    I have two vectors
    vector<int> V1; vector<int> V2;
    and a map<int, set<int>> M1;
    I want to select common values from both V1 and V2 and check those values with the set in the map M1.
    For example:
    V1 contains;
    2  4  6  8  9
    V2 contains;
    4  5  6  9  10
    M1 contains;
    1=>1  2  5  9
    2=>4
    3=>5   10
    4=>2  4  8
    5=>4   9
    6=>4   6
    7=>9  12
    When we select the common values of V1 and V2 it is 4, 6, 9.
    And we search for all 4, 6, 9 from the values of M1 which give more appropriate.
    But, no all values in the set of map.
    Then, we delete any value from 4, 6, 9, then remaining values would match any values from the map.
    From the example, if we delete 6, then remaining 4, 9 will match with 5=>4  9, or if we delete 9, then 6=>4   6. Any one of the keys can be selected.
    I know how to select the common values from V1 and V2, but I do not know how to match with the values and select the appropriate key from M1.
    Could anyone help me to solve this?

    This is not the question you asked, except perhaps in the subject. The subject is not the right place to put key features of the question. It is also important to use the body to ask just the question you want
    answered. For example your real question has nothing to do with V1 and V2, just the common vector V (e.g. 4 6 9).
    One way to solve your problem would be to create a new map
    map<int, set<int>> M2;
    with the same keys as M1. Each set of M2 should contain the elements of V that are
    not in the corresponding set of M1.
    Then pick the key of M2 that has the smallest set. If that set is empty, then the whole of V can be used. Otherwise the smallest set tells which elements of V have to be removed, and which is the desired key of M1.
    In your example, key 5 of M2 will contain just 6, so you should remove 6 from V and select key 5.
    Yes fine. I tried the following code and it creates the map M2 (NewMyMap in my code). But how to find the smallest set starting from size 1?
    #include <vector>
    #include <algorithm>
    #include <iostream>
    #include <map>
    #include <set>
    using namespace std;

    IntVec IVec; //This vector is for selecting certain keys from mySet map.
    IntVec myVec;
    SetMap mySet;
    SetMap NewMyMap;
    int main()
    IVec.push_back(3); IVec.push_back(4); IVec.push_back(5); IVec.push_back(6);
    myVec.push_back(4); myVec.push_back(6); myVec.push_back(9);
    IntSet tempS;
    tempS.insert(1); tempS.insert(2); tempS.insert(5); tempS.insert(9);

  • Find the first occurance of a word

    I have a script which finds and counts ALL occurances of a word.
    I need the script to find the FIRST instance of a word only.
    Can any one please advise how to modify the script to find the first instance of the word?
    Script as follows:
    var numWords = this.getPageNumWords(0);
    for (var i=0; i<numWords; i++)
    var ckWord = this.getPageNthWord(0,i);
    if ( ckWord == "MATERIAL")
    /*Script will go here based on finding the first instance of the word "MATERIAL"*/
    I have tried var CKWord = this.getPageNthWord(0,0); but console reports back is UNDEFINED?

    Thanks for your help.  Script now returns the first occurance of the word "MATERIAL".
    I know have to add to the script to find the SECOND OCCURANCE of the word "ISSUED".
    Can you please advise how I would code the script for this, ie would this have something to do with the break command?
    var numWords = this.getPageNumWords(0);
    for (var i=0; i<numWords; i++)
    var ckWord = this.getPageNthWord(0,i);

  • How to find the File name using the FTP Adapter

    hi all,
    how to find the File name using the FTP Adapter with BPEL.
    Regards

    Found the solution for this.
    First In the mediator's routing rule use assign property $in.property.jca.file.FileName to $out.property.jca.file.FileName
    In the BPEL's receive activity go to the properties tab and get the property to a BPEL variable. That should do it.
    Thanks for the posts

  • How to find the job and job status from RSPCM

    hi all,
    suppose we got an error and in rspcm the process was failed.i want to know the status of that particular job.and if any i want to stop that job in SM37.
    plz tell me how to find the job and job ststus from RSPCM...and how to stop that job in SM37
    thanks,
    jack

    Hi Jack,
    RSPCM: T.Code
    This transaction is used to monitor the process chains
    First:
    here you need to add the process chains into the sheet
    Second:
    Then you can monitor the process chains in this transaction code
    Like you can see the :  status ,proces chain ,Last run date ,Last run time ,Log ID
    Status : Green when sucessful,Yellow when running & Red when you get errors
    Now when yoy click on any of the process chain in RSPCM you will go to the LOG VIEW as you see in RSPC transaction
    SM37:T.code
    This transaction is used for Job Overview
    you can see many options in SM37
    like Released,active,cancelled,finished,etc
    Just select the ACTIVE  jobs and also pass STAR in JOB ID & USER ID
    here you can only see the active jobs
    Goto Step in toolbar
    select the program displayed
    then chose option GOTO - Variant in main menu bar
    in the variant you can see the job belong to which Process chain
    if you want to cancel this job come back to SM37 Display screen
    Select the Job and select the JOB DETAILS tab in Tool Bar
    Collect the WIP ( Work Permit ID)
    Go to SM50 T.code and find the WIP
    in Main Menu Bar you find the option Cancel with Core choose this it will cancel the Job
    Regards
