How to find/use remote installer in 10.8

I'm trying to erase my harddrive on an older macbook air and need to use "remote installer" on the base computer with the optical drive.  However, my imac uses OS 10.8 and doesn't seem to have this utility.  How do I accomplish the remote re-install without this utility or where can I find/download it?
Thanks

  • How do I tell my browser how to find my remote site on cafe_townsend tutorial

    Worked through the tutorial in Dreamweaver 8 and everything peachy. Browser fired up everytime I hit f12. Then I got to the part where I put my local files to the remote site and now my browser can't find the URL. There are some instructions about localhost:5800 for coldfusion but not sure what it means. What or where do I enter the magic information to let my IE8 in Windows 7 know how to find my remote web sight?

    I know about that tab, but the problem is that the iPod carries those preferences with it from computer to computer. I do want it to automatically update when plugged into my iBook, but I don't want it to when I plug it into the old G4. Right now my iPod is linked to two different libraries when it should only be to one. I know I can work around this by changing the preferences every time I decide to plug my iPod from one computer to the other, but it seems a little unnecessary—like there should be an easy way to just stop the synching altogether on my old computer...

    Hi,
    how to find using SCCM SQL query,  application deployed on win 7 machines with SCCM 2012 server or user/technician installed manually. Please let me know.

    Thanks, is it not possible via any script also?
    Like Torsten said, how can you tell the difference between CM12 installed applications and locally installed? Once you can answer that, then you can write report.

    How to find programatically the installation location for Mysql?

    There are thousands of them. Probably hundreds of thousands. If you had a particular one in mind, just ask the person who set it up. There's no point in trying to write code for that, since you only need to ask once and put the location in your code.

  • How to find the Remote Desktop Client Version?

    How to find the Remote Desktop Client Version in Lion?  I'm asking because in starting up a mid 2011 MacBook Air, I ran Software Update, which determined that Remote Desktop Client version 3.5.1 was available.  I wanted to find what the existing version (older than 3.5.1) that came with Lion was, but coudn't find it.
    Thanks.

    Get Info on:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent
    or if you have Apple Remote Desktop on an administrator system, you can see the workstation client versions by control-clicking in the header in the computer list and selecting to show the ARD version column.

  • How to find whether remote database is up or not (connected via dblink)

    Hi,
    I am using dblink to connect Biz database from Dev database.(Biz, Dev - database names)
    Running dbms job using the dblink from the Dev database to update data on Biz database...
    Problem is dbms job should run if and only if the Biz database is up for which i created the dblink...
    1) How to make sure or implement the check to find whether the Biz is database is up or not in Pl/sql or sql...
    2) How to reschedule the dbms jobs once the database is up
    pls suggest me how to find whether the database is up or not b4 running the dbms job?
    Using- Oracle 10g

    The only way to know whether the remote database is up (and whether the network between the two databases is up and whether the remote database's listener is up and whether the password configured in the database link is correct and whether the local TNS alias is correct, etc) would be to actually run a query against the remote database over the database link. In other words, the way to figure out whether the link is up is to let the job run and catch & handle exceptions when there are problems.
    By default, a job scheduled via DBMS_JOB will automatically reschedule itself if there is an unhandled exception by geometrically backing off (it waits 1 minute after the first failure, 2 minutes after the second, 4, 8, 16, 32 minutes, etc until it's marked as broken after 16 failures). You could, of course, catch appropriate exceptions and handle them in a reasonable fashion and manually reschedule jobs at intervals that make more sense for your particular job.

  • How can I use remote app in a dorm?

    I have the most recent version of the remote app for my iPhone 4S, and I'd like to control the iTunes on my 2010 MacBook Pro, but I am in a dorm, so I only have access to the communal "ResHall" wifi. Both my computer and my phone are on this network, but they will not recognize one another. I have turned Home Sharing on and off on both (in different orders as well, i.e. turn both off, turn homesharing on MacBook on first vs. on iPhone first), as well as verified that they are using the same Apple ID. My MacBook's firewall is already set to allow incoming data to iTunes. The router IP address is the same for both machines. Is there any quick (or not so quick, I'm open to anything at this point) way to use remote in a dorm like this?

    Hey Ajthebassist,
    Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having difficulty pairing the Remote app with iTunes. This article may be able to help in this situation.

  • How to find useful MIBs for Cisco Devices?

    Hi,
    I am setting up a new Monitoring System (CA Netvoyant). It has some default Cisco monitoring capabilities ( I believe these are soem standard MIBs).  I am wondering how can I add more useful Cisco MIBs for the devices I have in my network. There are thousands of MIBs and it looks like it is not easy at all to find the useful ones.
    For example the MIBs that can give you Emergency and up to warning level information, cpu, memory, interface errors, module failures (in case of Cat 6500), FWSM, BGP, VPN tunnel status notifications. Is there a list of useful MIBs for each device type, like Cat 6500, ASA5540, Cat 3750-E etc depending on IOS Image?
    Any help in setting up the SNMP monitoring system would be really helpful.
    Thanks

    If there is a MIB for it, most SNMP Capable Management servers can poll them.
    This can be such as FHRP states, Routing Peers, ASA Failover status, Seriel numbers for inventory purposes.
    The potential is almost endless, it just depends what you should monitor to ensure you are in the know when your network hiccups.

  • How to develop using remote MySQL data?

    I need to develop an application with Flash Builder 4, but I need to develop using live data from the server?
    Can this not be done with Flash Builder 4?

    Okay.  Same answer really.  Most hosting providers will provide MySQL database connectivity as a default option (e.g a2 hosting).  Then when you deploy your app you are still talking to a database on the localhost (the web server) since your code is there too.  You can also write an AIR app that runs on your desktop and talks to the database on the web server using the same PHP stuff but just pointing to the remote I.P address.
    For testing I use MAMP (mac) which gives me MySQL, Apache and PHP in one install.

  • How to find "the remote button" in iTunes 11

    I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out how to re-connect my iPhone Remote app to my computer, so hopefully I can save some people some time:
    When you open the app and try to re-connect your iTunes library, it will give you a code, and some bizarre directions.
    (If you have not done so already, go to "View" on the top bar, then "Show Sidebar")
    On the sidebar, you will see 'DEVICES' as category.
    **Click the little icon next to your device, and enter the code***

    Like everyone else here, I have spent hours trying to figure this out, looking for the Devices category in the Sidebar and then Remote.  Nothing worked, until I finally figured it out.  I think this method is foolproof...:-)
    1. Open iTunes and make sure it is connected to your home network.
    2. Go to "View" on the top bar and then "Show Sidebar".  You should see Music, Films, etc, BUT YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY 'DEVICES', not just yet.
    3. Now, go to your iPad/iPhone, make sure it is connected to the SAME home network.  Open the Remote app on your iPad/iPhone.
    4. Go to 'Add an iTunes Library'.  You will get a four-digit code
    5. Now, look at the sidebar.  Now suddenly you will you see your iPad, under the newly-appeared 'Device' category, listed as "(Name's) iPad"
    6. Click on this new iPad icon in the sidebar.  Four boxes appear in iTunes for you to enter the code from the iPad
    Done!
    The mystery is that your iPad/iPhone does not appear in Devices UNTIL you 'ping' iTunes requesting to control it remotely.
    I also had firewall problems with McAffee.  If the above doesn't work, TURN OFF all your firewalls and try again.  If that solves the problem, you need to open a port on Mcaffee for access from devices on your network.

  • How to catch/use Remote/LocalCollisionEvent

    Hello everyone,
    I am trying to detect when a user is already comunicating (busy) with another one. I unsuccessfully tried inserting event handlers both in my transmitting and receiving classes as follows:
    public class ReceiveClass
    implements ReceiveStreamListener, SessionListener,
    ControllerListener
    public boolean initialize ()
    try
    mgr = RTPManager.newInstance ();
    mgr.addSessionListener ( this );
    mgr.addReceiveStreamListener ( this );
    public synchronized void update ( SessionEvent evt )
    if ( evt instanceof NewParticipantEvent )
    Participant p = ( ( NewParticipantEvent ) evt ).getParticipant ();
    System.err.println ( " - A new participant has just joined: " +
    p.getCNAME () );
    /* un usuario se ha conectado*/
    /* se cambia el icono y se deja habilitado*/
    else if ( evt instanceof LocalCollisionEvent )
    long ssrc = ( ( LocalCollisionEvent ) evt ).getNewSSRC();
    System.err.println ( " - Local Collision Event: " + ssrc );
    /* un usuario ya esta conectado con otro usuario */
    public synchronized void update ( RemoteEvent evt )
    if ( evt instanceof RemoteCollisionEvent )
    long ssrc = ( ( RemoteCollisionEvent ) evt ).getSSRC ();
    System.err.println ( " - Remote Collision Event: " + ssrc );
    /* un usuario ya esta conectado con otro usuario */
    public class TransmitingClass
    implements SessionListener, RemoteListener
    public synchronized void update ( SessionEvent evt )
    if ( evt instanceof NewParticipantEvent )
    Participant p = ( ( NewParticipantEvent ) evt ).getParticipant ();
    System.err.println ( " - A new participant has just joined: " +
    p.getCNAME () );
    /* un usuario se ha conectado*/
    /* se cambia el icono y se deja habilitado*/
    else if ( evt instanceof LocalCollisionEvent )
    long ssrc = ( ( LocalCollisionEvent ) evt ).getNewSSRC ();
    System.err.println ( " - LocalCollisionEvent: " +
    ssrc );
    /* un usuario ya esta conectado con otro usuario */
    public synchronized void update ( RemoteEvent evt )
    if ( evt instanceof RemoteCollisionEvent )
    long ssrc = ( ( RemoteCollisionEvent ) evt ).getSSRC ();
    System.err.println ( " - RemoteCollisionEvent: " +
    ssrc );
    /* un usuario ya esta conectado con otro usuario */
    could anyone give me some hints regarding this issue? What would I be doing wrong or what would I be missing?? In the above code piece I am able to catch the NewParticipantEvent but the other ones...
    Thank you very in advance,
    Olivier

    Hi,
    Its simple and complex at the same time. First you need to have DNS resolution for IPv6 addresses (Records AAAA) in internal DNS. For This, have a look at this blog post :
    http://danstoncloud.com/blogs/simplebydesign/archive/2013/01/12/dns64-behavior-change-in-windows-server-2012.aspx
    Once you have name resolution you should be able to ping (if not, NAT-Transversal or protocol is not enabled in the firewall). Next move is to enable incoming network flow for remote assistance and enable NAT-Transversal. At this stage, Remote assistance
    should work but network flow between directaccess clients will not be protected by IPSEC tunnels of DirectAccess. We will need to build our own IPSEC transport rules for that.
    Thats a subject I'm trying to finalize in a blog post, but i'm short in time these days.
