How to fit MPEG-2 file of 115 min movie on DVD?

What is the best way to export an MPEG-2 file (115 min video), where the size ranges from 3.5GB to 4.0GB to fit on a 4.7GB DVD?  I changed the Bitrate to bring the file size down but don't want to loose a lot of quality.

I don't know what you mean by this.
Could you show us a screenshot of your export settings, similar to this but for dvd, showing these details:

    please help.....

And, just for you to know, iDVD is not concerned with the size in GB of any movies. The only limiting factor is the time-length of all the content to go onto the DVD disk. For single-layer DVDs, the limit is 120 minutes; double that for dual-layer disks. As long as all your videos do not exceed these limits, you can put any size videos into your iDVD projects.
Also, the time-length affects the burning preference for the project. By default, iDVD sets it as "Best Performance." This setting is for project of less than 60 minutes. The other setting options are "High Quality" and "Professional Quality." These are for projects of 60-120 minutes (single-layer). The burning processes are slightly different, with the PQ involving more passes, thus taking a bit longer. It is supposed to be better quality, but I don't think most people notice on their DVDs.
Just be sure you have the Preference setting for the length of your project.

  • How do I convert MP4 file to AVI or MOV using MacBook Pro (2010)

I am 10.6.4 new user on a new MacBook Pro. This is my first Mac computer.
I want to convert a MP4 video file to AVI or MOV file type. How would I do this on my new Mac? Documentation says I have Quicktime X, but I cannot find Quicktime X on my system. When I try to load Quicktime 7 Pro, my system says I have Quicktime X and cannot load Pro. Apple websites say Pro version will allow me to convert the MP4 files. Anyone have any experience or ideas on what I should do? How do I find Quicktime X? Will it do the conversion for me? Thanks

Use MPEG Streamclip, or open the QuickTime Player from the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, installing this software if needed.

  • MPEG 2 files jittery in QuickTime player & Apple DVD Player

I'm not sure if this is a QuickTime issue or not, but I am having trouble playing back MPEG 2 files in the QuickTime Player, and also in the Apple DVD Player.
During pan shots there is a noticeable jitter which is not there in the original footage. I have made the MPEG 2 files in Compressor, and also in DVDSP, and used a variety of settings to no avail. All the files I've tried play back fine in VLC, and also play back fine when burnt to DVD and played on my television.
    Any suggestions?

Well, that's the odd thing. It looks fine on the CRT TV. And in VLC Player it looks ok too. But in QuickTime and DVD Player it looks shocking. I took the DVD to work and played it on my PC there and it looks pretty awful there too. I take your point about being overly sensitive, but I showed it to my partner who is not the perfectionist nerd that I am, and he mentioned it without me even saying anything. Funny thing is, it seems to only be on the MPEG 2 files. I output last night as an MPEG 4 (figuring I'd have to put the footage on the web instead of on DVD) and there was no jerky problem with that file at all.

  • How do I reduce the file size of a movie which is consecutive pictures?

I have added audio to a powerpoint presentation and imported it into final cut pro. I want the smallest file possible, whilst retaining quality. The "movie" part is 30 consecutive pictures, so can I significantly compress the video in the file before exporting it to final cut pro?

The final video will be put on my website.
In terms of the format, it will be downloaded and watched rather than streamed. I do not know a great deal about different video formats, but basically it needs to be in a format that most of my colleagues can watch (who are not hugely IT literate).
The file as a powerpoint presentation alone is 2.5MB, but with audio it is around 25MB (compressed in powerpoint from 250MB). The only problem is that I want to edited the audio, so I am exporting it from powerpoint into logic 8 to change the audio, then I am importing it into final cut X for video editing. The talk is around 80-90 minutes long, and I need to keep the quality of the pictures as they include x-rays (which need to remain high resolution). I cannot therefore see how I can have a video of this length and keep the quality. 960 x 720 would be ideal. The fact that the powerpoint presentation when compressed is only 25MB with high quality pictures and audio makes me think that there must be a way of doing the same in a video with a very low frame-rate for each individual slide (though each slide is of a different length from one another.) There also may be an entirely different way of doing this, and I am welcome to receive suggestions!
    Thanks

How to get your file folder organization back when you move to a new computer?

Your PSE8 is using the default, new empty catalog that's created when PSE is installed.
In Windows, search your entire computer for this file:

The largest one that's found will be your old catalog.  If your computer people didn't restore that catalog file (and its entire directory), ask them where the heck it is.

  • How do I send a file from Compressor to create a DVD using iDVD?

I edited the movie in FCX and used Compressor to add chapter markers.  How do I export it as a file for iDVD?  Thanks

    Hi Lisa,
I am assuming you have these files on your Local Hard Drive and you want to upload them to Acrobat.com.
In order to do so, you would need to open cloud.acrobat.com and click on the 'files' tab on the extreme left and thereby you can upload your files to Acrobat.com by choosing 'Upload file' Icon on the right hand side of the Window.
Please revert back if you have any other query or need any further assistance.

  • How to Zip a Large File into Several Mini Zip Files?

    Hi Everyone,
I've got a few camera video clips (about 100MB in size each) that I would like to send through e-mail.
I've got to split them into smaller pieces, but how do I get this done?
I don't want to use third party applications (if possible)
I've Googled and found a few suggestions but I can't seem to get anything done.
I tried the Terminal approach, but the command "zip" does not exist.
    man zip does not exist...
If I do a Create Archive - it will result in a single zip file, but I need to split it to a few segments, plus I'm trying to send these to Windows users.
Please help, and thanks in advance...

Hi Sagasse buddy, thanks for your reply.
Found something interesting as I was browsing VersionTracker.
    Zip Tools 1.1 at http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15462
    +Product Description:+
    +Installs zip 2.32 and unzip 5.52 files.+
+I noticed some time ago that there are a lot of machines out there without a copy of the zip and unzip binaries that Apple installs as part of their Developer Tools. As these tools are very useful, and several people, including myself, have written applications or scripts that depend at least in part on this binaries, I've built an installer.+
+Note, I didn't make the binaries, I'm just redistributing them because they can be hard to find and install if you're not "in the know".+
+These binaries are meant to be used from the Terminal and include no GUI, let alone an Aqua one. For your convenience, I have included a drag-and-drop AppleScript that will allow you to use the tools without going to the Terminal.+
Maybe I do not have those binaries in my machine...
I'll try out your suggestion as well as this Zip Tools 1.1 thingy.

  • How do I convert music files so I can move this from laptop to iPhone?

I purchases some music from Buymusic.com that I have stored on my laptop in the Windows Media Player; the music files are .wpl - not sure what that means. When I attempt to move this music to my iPhone I get a message that indicates I have to convert the files. From iTunes I selected File, add file to library and I selected the artist from my play list. Am I doing this correctly or am I jacked up? This is where I'm told the files must be converted. I have over 200 songs I'm trying to move. Thanks,
PS - Not a technical person - all this computer stuff is new to me, so please give it to me in the simpliest form. Thanks.

  • Problem converting MPEG-1 Files to any format - Wanting to make a DVD

I wish I could use Compressor, but it doesnt work! My home videos are all nice quality, MPEG-1 files, but everytime I try to convert them with compressor, it gives an error, like: "Cant encode audio from MPEG-1 SOuce... bla bla bla"... another one is "Error Opening File"...
And I dont understand, ffmpegX works, so does MPEGStreamclip, but I still wanna give a try to Apple's Compression Software, and see if it can make a nice thing of my videos compression. Im trying to compress 40GB of home videos (like 6 hours of footage) and but them on a DVD or two... I am trying to convert all of them but I am kind of lost....
That is why I wanted to give a try to compressor... but it doesnt open my MPEG-1 files.
I converted my videos... it took me 2 days... all of them to MOV... if I compare each original MPEG-1 FILE... the MOV one has a little little less quality... but the space is 4 times smaller! ... Sorry, I forgot to say, I have exactly 32 horus of video... that means... with those MOV files I converted, I can put all of my videos in two DVDs...
But what happened them? Well... I gotta a surprise... :/... with DVD Studio Pro.. when I add my MOV files... they become 2.5 times bigger!!! :o... so now it is not the two DVDs thing I was dreaming about...
That is why I wish I could give it a try, with Compressor, but it doesnt seem to work...
Please, is there someone that could really helep me out on this? I really appreciate any help....
Thank you so much reading my post,
    Gabriel

    Hey Gabriel
first and foremost, compressor has a real problem importing a muxed mpeg1 (video and audio joined as one file).
what you first need to do with your files is take them into ffmpegx or mpegstreamclip (like you have already) and do what is called a transcode (that's the official, fancy name).
you would take the file into the above mentioned apps, then transcode them to a Quicktime movie via export.
i would recommend mpegstreamclip for this task, since you do have a lot of footage and this app does offer a batch option (which you can set it and forget it).
once you have transcoded all your files to *.mov's, you can then take those files into compressor!
as you may have noticed, i didnt sepcify a codec to output (like sorenscon 3 or DV for example) since i dont know how much of your storage you can allocate for this task (you will need quite a bit for 32 hours of video).
this is really an easy task, but quite time consuming, so dont think it will go by fast!
i would recommend a DV codec export from mpegstreamclip (via QT movie) with the highest possible quality and uncompressed audio.
    please advise
    Mikey m.

  • HT3775 how can i open the file MPEG-2 Video, AC3 on my mac, when its coming from a sony camcorder?

how can i open the file MPEG-2 Video, AC3 on my mac, when its coming from a sony camcorder?

I think those files are Samsung's proprietary format, so only the Samsung software can open and display them.  If they do not make their software for OS X, then you are stuck requiring windows.
I thought the DVR itself lets you save as standard avi as the backup file format?

Lots of questions, lots of answers needed as mentioned by Hunt. But please include what version of Premiere Elements that you are using when you reply.
How are you importing these file into your Premiere Elements project?
After you drag your file to the Timeline, do you see both an video and audio component (on Video 1/Audio 1) or is there nothing on the Audio 1 track? If you can see a wave form or file on Audio 1, have you checked all the program's volume settings including Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and the ASIO settings?
    More later.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything written.

  • How do I move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer???

Can someone tell me how to move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer? Somehow all my songs on my iPod are MPEGs and they won't transfer to the library. I really don't want to loose the music, and there doesn't appear to be an option to convert the MPEG to a ACC file while the MPEG is on the iPod. Please help....

iTunes/iPod does not provide a way of copying tracks from an iPod to iTunes except for purchased music. But iTunes can play MP3 files without conversion.
Here are some ways of getting files from an iPod to your PC:
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.
