How to fit screen using a dva to s video adapter

when i hooked up my Mac mini t my older big screen tv, using a dva to s video adapter the screen resolution automatically set to 480 tv. This plays movies that I have downloaded to a aux. hard drive just fine, but when I go to internet to view anything else, the picture is too large, and will not fit the screen. If I try to reset the resolution the screen goes blurry, and I can't see anything.
Is there a setting in the Mac mini that I can change? The resolution change in settings will not work.
Thanks

S-Video is Standard Definition Video only, and assuming you and your TV are in NTSC land, that is a maximum of 720x480 pixels.  Pretty small/low resolution.  You need to use a different input to your TV, like VGA (or "PC" as it is sometimes referred to on TVs) - i.e. a blue multipin connector with 3 rows of 5 pins each row?
... or get an HD TV, or a proper computer monitor.

  • When using Final Cut Pro X, how do I just use the audio from a video that I imported?

I just want to use the sound from a video I imported. Is this possible? Thanks!

Sure you can do this. Add the video to your project timeline. Right click the clip and select detach audio. Set in and out points for what you want to export and in the export settings choose audio only and select file encoder you want AIFF, CAF, MP3 etc.. This will give you an audio only Quicktime file which you can then import to FCP to use like any clip.

  • Using a mini-DVI to video adapter

I have connected the video adapter and everything works fine. I use the internet for my video source and I was just wondering, is it possible to have video playing fullscreen on the tv and have another window open on my desktop that I can work with without disrupting the video from the browser? Every time I watch something I am unable to work on my computer while the video is playing.

As far as I know, you can't go full screen on one monitor without it interfering with the other. I believe this would require a second video card, which isn't possible for a MacBook.

  • Can I use the "Apple DVI to Video Adapter" with the GeForce 8600M GT?

It's all in the subject, folks. I've got an nVidia card, not ATI. Should I go ahead and buy the Apple DVI to Video Adapter to connect my MacBook Pro to my CRT Sony TV?
    Thanks.
PS My May 2005 Powerbook G4 had both a DVI and sVideo connector. I used to use the latter to connect to view on the TV. Now, my Powerbook is dead...

  • Black & white screen using DVI-to-Video adapter

I've got a strange problem. I'm connecting my MacBook Pro to a Sony TV using Apple's DVI to Video adapter and a composite video cable.
As soon as I make the connection, I see the Mac's screen appearing on my TV, but it is in black & white! And it flickers a little every few seconds. The only way to get to a colour screen seems to be to re-boot the MacBook. It's quite annoying.
Previously, I've always had a colour picture come up immediately. The problem started to crop up right around the time I installed Snow Leopard, in fact, although I'm not sure whether it's a coincidence or not. And I don't think it's related to my TV. Any thoughts?

same problem here... first time i plug it in after a reboot it's in color. when you disconnect it and try again later it'll be in black and white and there's nothing you can do to fix the problem. only choice you have is to reboot your computer. as you can imagine, having to reboot the computer every time you want to use the adapter is REALLY annoying

  • PC Screen and TV Screen using Mini DP and Mini DVI

    Good evening everyone,
I bought my MacMini in April of 2009 and connected my 19" PC Screen using the Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter, everything works great. Last month, I bought a new Samsung TV and connected it to the MacMini, using a VGA Splitter. However, the quality on both screens suffers, so I wondered whether it would make a difference if I use the Mini-DVI port for the PC Screen and the Mini-DisplayPort for my TV.
So, does it make any difference concerning the quality?
    Thanks
    Steven

I have my Mini hooked up to to screens.
    1. 23" Apple HD Cinema Display
    2. 40" Sony Bravia
The Apple display is hooked up using the mini DVI to DVI adapter.
The Sony is hooked up using the mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Both displays have a great picture with no quality loss that I can see.
I would suggest using the mini DVI and the mini DisplayPort for what you want.
You can get adapters for both ports that will go to the VGA if thats what you want or need.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter doesn't fit my aluminum iMac

I previously had a 17" white iMac (pre-Intel) machine, and about 6 months ago I bought the mini-DVI to video adapter so I could connect it to my television. Worked like a charm. But I recently bought a new aluminum iMac, and the adaptor doesn't fit into the mini-DVI port in the back of the machine. It appears the adaptor and port are both male ends.
Has the port changed on the aluminum iMacs? The product description for the adaptor on Apple's website says it works with iMac (Intel Core Duo). Isn't the aluminum iMac an Intel Core Duo? I can't figure out why it doesn't fit and which cable I'm supposed to be using instead.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Screen goes black when hooking up to TV via mini-DVI to video adapter...

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded my PB12" to 10.5.x (now running 10.5.5, but this issue has been there since upgrading to 10.5.1), when I hook up the mini-DVI to video adapter (different adapter than for hooking up to an external display as the mini-DVI to video adapter has composite and sVideo out) to my TV, the PB screen goes black. It's set up to mirror the PB on the TV, and the PB continues to run, picture works on the TV, but I loose picture on the PB. Only way to get it back is to reboot the PB (with the mini-DVI to video adapter unplugged). So, basically, if I try and use the mini-DVI to video adapter, I loose picture on the PB. This never happened under 10.4.x — only since upgrading to 10.5.x.
Anyone have this issue? Know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • Using a video adapter with Leopard

I have a fellow teacher who has always used her eMac with a video adapter to connect to her TV to share with her students what was on her screen. During the summer, her eMac was updated to Leopard. Now nothing will show on her TV. The adapter works on an eMac running Tiger, but not the Leopard machine. I see where early complaints of Leopard included not being able to use a video adapter, but is there now a "work around"? The computer recognizes the fact that an adapter is used if you click on the display icon on the menu bar, but nothing shows up on the TV - any ideas???

I'd like to know about a workaround too. My guess is there isn't one if the eMac only has one video output. What it seems that Leopard does is try to recalibrate settings for every new monitor, and it doesn't work well with the video adapter. If you're able to view the eMac WHILE the monitor adapter is connected, maybe you can try changing the settings under "displays" (bring colors down from millions to thousands, change from NTSC to PAL, etc...see if any of that gives you TV picture.)

  • Iphoto crashing after using mini-dvi to video adapter

Hi, IPhoto on my Macbook is crashing. I can open it, then as soon as I scroll down it locks up and I have to force quit.
This started happening right after I used a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter cable to hook my macbook up to my TV. The adapter/s-video connection worked and I was able to see the video on the tv. But iphoto immediately locked up the computer when I went to slide show and now it locks every time I open it.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you:)

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto slideshow using mini-dvi to video adapter

When using the mini-dvi to video adapter to connect to my widescreen tv (via composite), to show iPhoto slideshows, the transistions between slides dont apear and there are no ken burns effects. The slideshow runs fine on my MacBook display (ie when not conected to the tv), and the is no other distortion or flickering (as reported in other threads), this seems odd to me or is it just a limitation of analogue output.

  • Connecting an Xbox using the DVI to Video adapter to a Display

I have a second display (Vision 17'' TFT LCD Display) and I love using it with my Power Book using the DVI out. I also have a PC that shares this display through a VGA input port also on the display. Anyways, I want to use the display for my Xbox which has the three component cables. To do this, I was planning on using the "Apple DVI to Video Adapter" but Is this possible? I know it works if the signal is going out the DVI port to an external display but does it work in reverse? In theory I would have the Yellow video cable going to the adapter and the two audio cables going to a "Y" stereo mini cable into the audio in port on the monitor. Possible? Other ideas? Thanks.
    -Daniel

no, it won't work. the adapter does not transcode any video signal, it simply connects the appropriate breakout to the analog lines that are already present on the Mac's DVI output, as per the DVI-* spec. unfortunately, it will not work in reverse.
someone at Microsoft has claimed that the 360 does support HDMI and DVI, but the cable is simply not available yet. I find this comment somewhat suspicious, because the demand IS there already, and there is a HUGE base of people waiting for this.
MS does support VGA output now, so you could use a 2x1 VGA switcher to share the VGA input between the PC and 360. I would also get a KVM that supports audio. there are lots of options out there and they do not cost too much money. Y'ing the input on audio is not a great idea, because depending upon the impedence of the ins/outs, you might get a gain/distortion/bleed issue.

If you mean without internet, then yes, providing it isn't a purchased video (The Apple TV may need to verify authorisation). If you mean without a network, then no.
