Did you save it with the same name?
That can cause a problem.
See this from MS regarding location of files.

Find an automatically saved or recovered file
The next time that you open an application, files in the AutoRecovery folder are listed in the Open Recent list. Or you can find the files in the /Users/ username/Library/Application Support/ Microsoft/Office/Office 2011 AutoRecovery.
In the Finder, find automatically saved files in /Users/ username/Library/Application Support/ Microsoft/Office/Office 2011 AutoRecovery. Note   If you close a file and click Don't Save, the file is deleted from the AutoRecovery folder.

  • How to repear a corrupt file with Numbers

How to open a "corrupt" file with Numbers.
With excel it is possible to open such a file with the following error message :
"The file you are trying to open, 'filename.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
Clicking YES, the file is opening correctly with XLS.
How to do the same with Numbers?
When i try to open the same file with numbers i have no "error message" but the information contained in the file is not readable.
    Many thanks for your help

    Yeah that's true to an extant; microsoft did a good job fixing that but unfortunately allowed it to be re-introduced in 2006 with windows vista where they allowed file naming to receive destructive values (wasn't very fond of this);
in previous versions of windows such values once entered would be followed by an error message telling you those values couldn't be used
I wasn't aware it would pop its ugly head back up into windows 7 but I see otherwise as in the case of mine
(I forgot to mention the period preceded a parenthesis which in turn can be destructive to the file's original format)
Anyway photoshop wont open the file after changing it to .psd leaving an error message stating....
'Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop'

You can but it will not fix anything - you have a corrupted library = not an corrupted application
Backup your iPHoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and ftom the resulting first aid window rebuild your database

  • How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?

How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?

I usually start by exporting to AME (as opposed to encoding "in-process" by clicking Export in the Export Settings dialog). Then watch the preview in AME's Encoding panel to see where it chokes. Adding an adjustment layer over the whole sequence with the Timecode effect applied--and scaled up to full frame width--can really help isolate the location.
That approach can be a pain in cases where it chugs away for a long time before encoding fails. In those cases, I use a divide-and-conquer approach:
Is it the video or the audio?: Disable all video tracks and encode. Then re-enable the video and mute all audio tracks
Where in the timeline is the problem: Export the first half, then the second half (using In/Out Points). Then keep dividing the half that fails until you've narrowed it down to a relative handful of clips.

  • How to fix a corrupt QuickTime file?

    Hey all,
Today I recorded all of our church services via iMovie (one long 4 hour clip), as I have been doing for more than a month now. However, the guy running the camera turned the camera off before I told iMovie to stop importing, so iMovie literally trashed the file.
I pulled the 50GB file out of the trash, but now QuickTime is giving me an error: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." When I open the file in MPEG Streamclip, It says "File open error: unrecognized file type", and I click "Open Anyway". It tries to open it, but sfter 20 minutes, I get the error: "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks".
Any idea how to fix this file? (That is, outside of paying $150 for this service: http://simplemoviex.com/movierepair/repair.html .) It is not mission critical to have this file, but there was a baptism this morning that I would like to have...

    Hi Janke,
If you have Time Machine or another backup system that keeps multiple versions, you may be able to work our way back to a version that does not demonstrate the corruption.

  • Fix for Corrupt File That Prevents Publish

Since last night I've been getting an error when trying to publish my site. The error is pointing to one of the background images in the template stating that the disk may be corrupt or that I don't have access rights or something like that. I couldn't seem to figure out how to fix this - I even overwrote the image file hoping to fix it, but nothing worked. I figured I'd reboot in the morning and see if the system automagically would clear it up.
Well funny thing... I use Super Duper for my backup application and it choked last night on the very same file that iWeb was. However, Super Duper gave me the actual path of the corrupt file.
    | 04:30:38 AM | Error | SDCopy: FTS_NS error for item: '/Users/suzanne/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites/rptilev6-2.jpg' err: 22, Invalid argument
This seems to be some kind of secondary cache of images that iWeb uses to upload to .MAC. I opened up that folder, replaced the file with a new version and everything worked again.

Had the same problem, but with music only. Thank you for the information

  • How to fix a corrupted data usage SQLite database?

I have an iPhone 5 running the latest iOS 8.0.2 and this phone is never jailbroken.
A few months ago I noticed my data usage was not updated anymore. I tried many things to restore it. Today I hooked up my iPhone to Xcode and there it revealed the problem in the device logs:
Sep 28 13:38:01 Marcels-iPhone Preferences[331] <Warning>: CoreData: error: (11) Fatal error.  The database at /var/wireless/Library/Databases/DataUsage.sqlite is corrupted.  SQLite error code:11, 'database disk image is malformed'
So apparently the data usage SQLite file on my iPhone got corrupted. How on earth can I restore this database?

If you are able, try modifying or deleting the account using "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "NetInfo Manager.app" - (be careful that only the user and not the entire "users" directory is selected when you delete).
Otherwise, the output from this commands might provide more info on the state of the user records, potentially providing a clue to how to fix it (if the second field in any entry contains anything other than asterisks, don't post them):<pre>nidump passwd /</pre>Also, if the user shows up using this command, that might provide another method for referring to the user using "NetInfo" based commands:<pre>nicl . -list /users</pre>If there aren't a lot of other users on the computer, you could always reset the whole "NetInfo" database as described in the document below. User accounts will have to be recreated (adjusting to match the original 'uid' values), and custom groups, share points, mounts, etc. (if any) will have to be reconfigured as well.

  • How to delete a corrupted file

I have a file that failed in the process of being copied from a local hard drive to an external drive connected to my Time Capsule.
The Finder sometimes reports the partially copied file as there and sometimes not.
I have tried to delete the corrupted file but can not.
It returns a variety of error messages depending on how I try and delete it.
I have tried using a Terminal script, I have tried deleting the host folder which is empty otherwise. All attempts fail, reporting either that I do not have permission or that the file is in use (which it is not by anything other than the Finder,) depending on which method I'm trying to use to delete the file.
Is there another method to delete this file that I can try, perhaps something I am unaware of as a fairly new Mac user that is a kin to Force Quit for applications?
If not, can anyone recommend a third party file killer application that can get rid of this file once and for all?
I need to try again to copy the entire content of the host folder. I would rather not change the host folder name to avoid the copy operation failing because it can't overwrite the corrupted file. (The original file is still okay).
Hope this all makes sense and thanks for any advice or suggestions!

Hi Linc. Thanks for the prompt reply. It's really great to have such a resource as this.
I can say with certainty that the file is not locked but I'm afraid my inexperience needs a bit of clarification as to what "ACL" and "Is -Oel" means and how to go about posting its output!
I should also mention that the permissions read, "You have unknown access" and the size is Zero KB. From my experience on a PC I know neither is a good sign <G>.
Thanks again for your continued support.

  • How to restore a corrupted file?

    Hello,
I have a problem with the Illustrator file I was working on. I cannot open it, and the icon of the file is a bit opaque with a grey cross. If I try to move it, a message says that the file is unavailable. But still is not an empty file. This is the property window:
Also, I stopped working around 01.00, so I don't know why the last access is at 02.36.
Is there any way to recover the information?
    Thank you,

It's probably toast, but try this:
From Illustrator, try open recent file.
Create a new file and try to place the corrupt file into it.
Try to open it in Acrobat.
Change the extension to .pdf and try to open it in Acrobat and Illustrator.
here's a link you can try:

  • InDesign - need a "Fix my Corrupted File" Upload Service

There are frequently posts on the forum for people who have corrupted INDD files. This means lost work and frustrated InDesign users.
The Indesign team should offer a "Fix my File" upload link to its customers.
For each corrupted file, you will help a customer, and in the process, hopefully improve the overall stability of the product (which has issues) and benefit everyone...
Adobe: If you are afraid that you will be swamped with requests to "Fix my File", then you should probably just get out of the SW business now...

Zak Williamson wrote: "If the documents are fundamentally corrupt in some way, theres no way to repair them." and then later "As I mentioned to Casey, it's rarely possible to repair a truly corrupt document"
I definitely don't want this to sound like a flame or a whine, but I find that statement quite flabbergasting. Somebody at Adobe must understand the format of an InDesign file well enough to be able to edit out the specific element that is causing InDesign to complain about the document. I do file repair for another company (www.qsatoolworks.com) whose file format is probably more complex than an InDesign file. In over 10 years I've only had 1 or 2 files I could not repair at least to the point of recovering the textual data.
What led me to this forum is that a customer contacted me to help them recover an InDesign file. They just migrated from a PowerMac G4 with CS2 to a Mac Pro with CS3 and a few of their files won't open. ("ID may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.")
We have tried them on another Mac with CS2, and they won't open there either. "Something" must have gone wrong when the files were transferred to the new Mac.
(Naturally, the old hard drive has already been reformatted.)
Knowing what I do about file formats (but understanding that my knowledge is nearly worthless in an InDesign file) I have to assume an InDesign file contains an object map with pointers to the various objects in the document. The idea of telling the customer "your 32 page booklet is lost" when the problem could simply be a screwed up pointer is horrifying to me.
Here at QSA ToolWorks we charge $120/hour for recovery service, success or failure. We've saved lots of people from their own recklessness, and created a passionate user base in the process. We've made our product more reliable (and fixed some bugs) based on the knowledge gained through file repair; Adobe could do the same, but if they don't want to provide such a service, perhaps they should consider training third parties to do it.
I'd like to address one other comment above. Harbs wrote "I've been lead to believe that Adobe has utilities (which they use internally) to analyze and possibly fix corrupted files." Of course, I don't know whether Adobe has such utilities, but I suspect they don't. Because I can do Helix database repairs, people likewise assume I have "special utilities" that can fix corrupted files. (We've even been accused of keeping them secret so we can use file repair as a source of revenue!) I don't. What I do have is a deep understanding of the file format. Beyond that, a file editor and a couple of AppleScripts I wrote to display the object fields in a human-readable format are all the 'special' tools I have. If Adobe has any sort of tools for analyzing files, I suspect they are much the same. In other words, without extensive internal knowledge, they are worthless.
