How to fix an ipod touch 4g that has gone in with laundry?

My ipod touch 4g was discharged and it went in with the laundry. I tried putting it on by mistake. I then it in rice for a week and a 1/2. iTunes is recognizing my ipod but the screen is not turning on. Will apple be able to fix it. Please help!!!

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have a 3rd generation iPod touch 32gb and it will not turn off, nor will it charge. Plugging in to my computer, iTunes does not even detected. Even if I leave it to charge, it does not detect it. I also cannot do anything to update its software since it isn't being recognized by itunes or turning on.

Here's one of the ways I fix mine after one month of frustration.I realized that if anyone just got Windows vista and has not formatted their computer then it will not load up because vista doesn't know what to update.So the best way is to format it but make sure u save your personal stuff on a USB drive or disc before fomatting ur computer so u still have all ur stuff and as for ur programs just reinstall it all again.
2.Or the other way is to go to another computer from ur friends or family who has windows xp and plug in ur ipod and it updates ur ipod touch on there computer to the new firmware 1.1.3 or u can add or edit ur music, movies and others from their computer.It will work on vista if u bought the computer with it but if u upgraded to vista then u need to format ur computer but make sure u save ur things first on USB or disc like music or documents.
This is just one of the ways if u need to listen to ur music or have ur things on ur ipod uploaded.I don't know if this will help but it work for me finally.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:
