How to fix exclamation mark problem

Basically since I updated to iTunes 11 and I went to make a new cd to listen to in the car a lot of my songs have got an exclamation mark next to them and says it can't find the original file so since I HATE the new iTunes i decided to downgrade back to iTunes 10. what ever it was before the update came out to see if that would fix the problem but no that didn't work, so I've since been looking all over Google to try and find a solution to this but everything I found was mostly about moving the iTunes library and how to fix that problem but in my case that isn't the problem at all as I haven't moved the library anywhere, I did find a post about transferring purchases from my iPhone to iTunes so I did that thinking it would fix the problem as all the songs that have the exclamation mark next to them are on my iPhone and play back perfectly fine but iTunes would only transfer my app's not my music, is there a way to change this? Or if anyone else knows how to fix this problem in a different way I would very much appreciate the answer to this problem as it's driving me insane!
Thanks in advance
Jordan

This happens if the files are no longer where iTunes expects to find them. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the files, or that the drive they live on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use CTRL+I to Get Info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for a detailed explanation of what the script does.
If your media is scattered around you may need to repeat the search using each of the different locations where you have stored things.

  • How to fix the delay problem while recording? Can't set the Latency to 0. Win7, CS6,Realtek,C03u Mic

I am using Win7, with CS6, Realtek soundcard and Samson C03U microphone.
There is a problem that's really been bothering me. When I record songs the recorded audio always comes 0.1 seconds after where it's supposed to be and I need to fix the problem every time. How to fix the delay problem while recording? I can't set the Latency to zero. The minimum is 30ms and I still get an obvious delay.
I saw some previous discussions saying that installing ASIO would help. Is it gonna work on my PC?
    Thank you in advance guys.

You probably should look at a more 'serious' audio interface rather than the Realtek
Yes ASIO drivers are the way to go
If you want zero latency you need to monitor via your audio hardware (hence the 'serious' audio interface suggestion)
There are a heap of reasonable audio interfaces which will do the job for you that are pretty inexpensive and I'm sure that someone will jump in with a suggestion

Worked for both iphone4S and ipad2.

  • Exclamation mark problems - help please

I deleted my trash because it was 60GB and it's caused me quite a few problems.
A number of exclamation marks have appeared in iTunes and when trying to search for the original file to mend the broken link, the track is greyed out in Finder. I'm presuming this is because some of the tracks were somehow linked to what was in my trash.
    (1) What is the best way to fix this issue?
I guess I could use Time Machine to restore iTunes to what it looked like last week (pre-trash deletion) - (2) would that work or would I need to restore the whole of my trash for that too?
    (3) If I try to restore iTunes via Time Machine, what folder do I restore - is it "Music" or something else?
    Thanks.

not sure it'll work but try this script:
    _*iTunes Track CPR v1.3*_
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • Can't fix exclamation marks!

Several songs on my iPod show up with an exclamation mark when I connect it to iTunes. The same songs do not have that mark on my actual iTunes library. I've tried replacing the songs on my iPod with the ones in my library (didn't work) and then read the suggestions for how to fix them on this site. However, they say to double-click on the song and then locate it but when I do double-click on it, nothing happens, so how am I supposed to fix it??

Firstly, make sure you have the latest versions of both iTunes and the iPod software installed. This is very important.
For iTunes: In iTunes go to Help>Check for iTunes updates.
For iPod: There's an update link in the Start menu.
If your iPod is synchronized with iTunes (e.g. when you add songs to your library they are automatically added to the iPod) do the following:
    1) Click on a song in your library.
    2) Press Ctrl+A.
    3) Press Del or Delete; it's to the right of the Enter button. All your music is now gone from your library, not from your computer. If you get any prompts about whether you'd like to delete the files from the computer, you don't want to do that.
    4) Right click on your iPod in iTunes and click Update. This will clear all tracks from your iPod.
    5) Add your tracks to the library again (if you have a music folder on the computer do this: In iTunes go to File>Add folder to library, then just add the folder.
    6) Update the iPod.
If the iPod isn't automatically synchronized with iTunes, just clear the iPod and add the tracks again manually.
When all that's done the links between the tracks should be restored (no exclamation marks)

  • How I fixed my Airport problem.

I have the 2010 MacBook Pro with the i7 processor in it.
Recently I was having an issue with getting on the wireless network. My other computers were able to get on, even my iphone 4. But my MacBook Pro claimed "Could Not Connect To The Internet", or something of that sort in the top right corner. My Wifi icon had an exclamation mark in it and I was getting pretty frustrated. I thought it was a hardware issue so I did some troubleshooting, I also did software update using the ethernet cord. But no hope. I went to the Apple Store and looked like a complete idiot when they opened up my laptop and *voila* my airport worked and he said in a very nice way that I was crazy. (cool....)
Well, after some hardcore internet searching, we decided to try something.
Our current wifi was set up with a WEP password. My roommate changed the wifi channel on our router along with changing the WEP security to WPA. I turned off my airport, restarted my computer, turning the airport back on and WHAM! Internet was back up.
I hope that this helps someone else in the future. It was quite a painful proccess to go through. But, I'm back up and rolling with no apparent reason to why my airport decided to wig out on me...
OH, something else... I didn't have to change the IPv6 or anything else. I just changed the security settings and that seemed to fixed it.

Turn off IPv6 in your Network > Advanced> TCP/IP settings and reboot.
Check the date and time again to make sure, they are correct.
    Cheek the link I've provided.
I now totally hate Apple's routers, I've suffered for years with one and a lightening strike took it out, so I got a Dual Band High Performance Netgear router and set it up with advanced options for $99, it works like a charm.
With Apple's routers I felt that I had to constantly mess with them to get them to work, there was problems, the Netgear I feel I can just leave it alone.
It think it is because Apple routers have PING turned on, thus it's answering calls and thus more subjected to a hack attempts, when the Netgear has PING turned off by default, so it doesn't acknowledge itself online.

  • I've no idea how to fix my service problem ?

So a day or so ago my phone was having troubles finding wifi so I turned it on and off of airplane mode, it found the wifi , but soon after my service depleted ... I turned my phone on and off but the service did not return , I then reset the network settings and I had service again ! But only due to 3G which my plan doesn't cover so it had to be turned off ..I still have no service and I can't figure out how to fix it. So if you could tell me how that would be lovely !?? One more thing ..does 3G cost money , if it's not in your plan, but you are connected to wifi ? With 3G my phone gets 3 bars but without it goes to one bar immediately and then says "searching /no service " soon after
I also don't know if I'm posting this in the right place or again, sorry :/

It's hard to say what the problem is, but if you are concerned about data charges from using 3G you can turn off cellular data in Settings > Cellular to eliminate all doubt. Slide Cellular Data "off". That will constrain your data connection to Wi-Fi only.
Have an Apple Store evaluate your iPhone.

  • How I fixed my conection problem

    Here's my setup:
    Wireless IP (Motorola canopy)
The connection comes into the house as ethernet (I'm conected wirelessly to the ISP's router and it's using DHCP
That's pluged into an airport express that acts as a bridge to the ISP's router
    iMac G4 wireless
Windows xp notebook wireless using a Netgear PCMCIA card
Son's XP desktop using a DLink internal wireless card
    Symptoms:
This worked but after several hours the airport express wouls stop forwarding the new DHCP info. The green light was On but I could not connect to the internet wirelessly.
    Here's how I fixed it:
I turned off ipv6 in the network settings. I had it set to Automatic. When I turned it off It has worked like it is suposed to.
    I hope this helps someone.

The fact that you saw no glitches while running Logic before applying the update means almost nothing because that uses only a small subset of system resources. Far more significant is that Safe Mode restored some missing functionality: because it disables non-essential items like user fonts, third party drivers, & so on, it points to problems in those areas.
Equally significant, the fact that there are relatively few reports of post-update problems among the several million Snow Leopard users points away from the update itself as the cause of your problems.
Separate & apart from that, it so happens that I'm a sound engineer/system designer/board operator with nearly 40 years of professional touring experience. FWIW, I never have & never will update the software of any system I must rely on professionally (whether it is running on a Mac, a PC, or dedicated hardware) unless & until I can thoroughly test it first and I have a trustworthy backup/recursion strategy to fall back on in case of problems.
I strongly suggest you learn from your unpleasant experience & do the same. I have had far fewer problems with Macs than with PC's, but nothing is 100% reliable to begin with. Changing the OS software part way through the tour is just asking for trouble, no matter how reliable that has been in the past. Even if the budget allows for nothing better than a stack of burned CD's & a couple of consumer grade CD players, no professional tour can afford to be without some fallback strategy in place. That should be self-evident & require no warning from Apple or anybody else.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

  • How I fixed my authorization problem

There have been many posts on the authorization problem that has cropped up since the latest update of iTunes, and there doesn't seem to be universal cure. I fought it myself for a couple of weeks, and recently fixed it on my PowerBook and thought I would share it with others.
The common theme here seems to be that it affects people who have had more than one account in iTunes. For the record, I have NEVER purchased music from the iTMS using a different account, so I was confused as to why this was happening to me.
I have two Macs in play here: an older eMac at home and a PowerBook G4. My initial iTunes library started on the eMac, and then I moved it to my PowerBook a little over a year ago when I bought it. I purchased music from the iTMS on both Macs, using the exact same account.
When I upgraded iTunes on my PowerBook, I reauthorized using my only account, and the music that I had purchased since I transfered my library worked just fine. The music that I had purchased on my eMac simply would not authorize!
It dawned on me yesterday that I setup a .mac account on my PowerBook several months ago, although I never used it in the iTMS and I never used it on the eMac at home. I also realized that I had NOT run iTunes on the eMac since the most recent upgrade.
I installed the iTunes upgrade on my eMac, and proceeded to authorize it with my only known iTMS account. No issues, and all purchased music was auhtorized, including songs that would not play on my PowerBook.
On my PowerBook, I decided to authorize using my .mac username and password, even though I have NEVER used it to purchase music. I didn't even own that account when the music files in question were purchased. As I suspected though, the authorization went through and I can now play all of my purchased music from iTMS.
When I try to step through this logically, it makes my head hurt. There is definitely a major problem with Apple's DRM authorization relationship somewhere, as there should be no reason at ALL for any of my music to require my .mac account.
I don't know if this will help anyone, but if you're struggling with it and you have a .mac account, give it a shot and it might work.

The fact that you saw no glitches while running Logic before applying the update means almost nothing because that uses only a small subset of system resources. Far more significant is that Safe Mode restored some missing functionality: because it disables non-essential items like user fonts, third party drivers, & so on, it points to problems in those areas.

  • HOW TO FIX NO AUDIO PROBLEM IN FLASH (4 SOLUTIONS)

This solution is for WINDOWS ONLY!!! Unfortunately I believe
it is a bug in flash itself as I have read more than one instance
of this same no audio problem occuring on MAC'S and LINUX based
systems as well. IF YOU KNOW OF SOLUTIONS TO THE MAC OR LINUX BASED
PROBLEMS, PLEASE POST THEM IN THIS THREAD.
Description of the problem: Video sites such as YouTube,
VideoSift, Break, Google Videos, Yahoo, and a plethora of others do
not stream embedded audio. Viewing a YouTube video, for example, on
VideoSift.com results in the video playing back with no audio.
However, by going directly to YouTube and playing back the same
    video, it appears to work.
    THERE ARE SEVERAL POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.
Problem: You may be missing your WAVEMAPPER driver.
Cause: Wavemapper driver was removed during installation or
updating of the Flash Player. It might not necessarily be Flash
that removes it but apparently something does.
Solution #1: Google "Flash No Audio WAVEMAPPER" for
directions, its been covered a bunch, but basically requires
running REGEDIT and readding the WAVEMAPPER key to the appropriate
location and value in the registry. Its not as difficult as it
    sounds.
    http://weyland.be/wrdprss/index.php/2006/08/22/no-sound-in-macromedia-flash-player-9/
if your wavemapper key is installed correctly...
Possible Cause: Corrupted or damaged flash content preventing
    audio streaming from working correctly.
Soltuion #2: Run CC Cleaner and delete only cached Flash
content. It is a free program, again just google "download CC
Cleaner". This particular solution worked for me.
If CC Cleaner also does not work, the description of your
problem may differ slightly. In my case on several computers, one
day it worked, the next day it didnt. If it never worked, this
would be a logical solution for you. One variation of this that I
have found is to create a new Windows User Account and log into it.
The reason the CC Cleaner method may work better is that the User
Accounts have their own separate cache folders so a corrupted cache
preventing audio playback on one profile will not be available on
the other User Account to cause the same problem. I wont explain
how to do this as the CC Cleaner will work better but if you are
curious, yet again google "create new windows user accounts". I
have also seen this method work on one of my affected computers but
it did not fix the issue on the account I was having problems with.
    http://www.ccleaner.com Install
and run it, use it only to remove Flash under the Applications Tab,
Multimedia, Adobe Flash Player. Check it and uncheck everything
else, then hit Analyze then Run Cleaner.
    Possible Cause: Missing Codec
Solution #2: Download and install the K-Lite Codec pack.
Again, google it. A CODEC stands for COmpressor DECompressor and is
a way to make audio and video files small enough to be transferred
on the internet. There are a lot of different codecs and if you
want to play back a video that was compressed using a particular
codec, you will need that same corresponding codec to decompress
your media source and view its content. Basically if you dont have
a codec, you cant observe the content of the media. If you have a
VCR and want to play back a DVD, you are out of luck unless you get
a DVD Player. DivX and XVid Codecs are some of the very popular
codecs used on the net, but to get those, I still suggest getting
    the K-Lite Codec Pack.
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
Solution #4: Go back to Flash 7. If it aint broke dont fix
it. This Final alternative is only to be used as a last resort.
You'll have to get rid of Flash 9 and go back to Flash 7. The
really tricky part here is that you have to prevent Flash from auto
updating itself. If you install Flash 7, and hit up YouTube, you'll
immediately get Flash 9+ installed again with the same problems. So
AFTER you uninstall Flash 9 (use Macromedias / Adobes uninstaller,
yet again go google it) make a new text file and name it MMS.CFG,
in the file put this one line "AutoUpdateDisable=1" (without the
quotes) and put it in BOTH your c:\windows\system32 AND
c:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash folders. This will prevent flash
from Auto Updating to 9+, then have to find some place to download
the old flash 7 installer. I found one here.
    http://www.intercomm.com/downloads/Flash7.
Only problem is that most sites will try to make you install Flash
9 and Flash 7 does not work on all sites, but it does on some like
YouTube. DO NOT UPDATE TO FLASH 9+ IF YOU USE THIS METHOD.
You will probably want to IMMEDIATELY go to
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager05.htm l
after installing Flash 7 and UNCHECK the update feature
I've tried to write this quick little guide at 3AM so Im not
going to take more time to research other ways to fix this problem.
If you have other solutions, such as for MAC and LINUX, or feel
like adding on to something else that I've written here (links
would be useful to the downloads I suggested) or correcting any
mistakes I probably have made, please say so.
One of these solutions is bound to help you. Theres multiple
causes for this no audio problem so there is obviously multiple
    fixes.

  • How to fix Song Preview problem?

Original question got deleted, assumedly because Apple has no answer.  They used a moronic excuse to terminate my legitimate concern with their software.  Here it is again:
A multitude of users have complained for months that they are only able to preview a few seconds of any song, and then the stream cuts out.  Why do you ignore this glaring problem?  Do something about it you lazy ********.  I know programming.  It may be hard, but it's your ******* job.  Fix it.
Now, so my question is relevant in the eyes of the jerks, I shall add a few words so as to convey the exact same idea, yet somehow making it relevant to this specific area on the website.
How do you fix this problem?
Before the topic was unjustly removed, a user suggested clearing iTunes' cache.  Obviously, this does not fix the problem.  Any actual suggestions as to what is wrong with Apple's coding?  Anyone create a hack that fixes this?  Has anyone found any fix at all for this?  Any other ideas, at all?  Preferably not from someone who works at Apple, as they only give generic copy-pasted answers that are determined by a poorly made bot that searched for keywords and spewed its nonsense on the page.  A real person with a soul, who actually cares, and is not after money.

    Didn't work for me.
What did work was going to the Wifi network settings and setting the HTTP Proxy to Auto rather than Off.
Worked for both iphone4S and ipad2.
