How to fix extremely slow render in AE CS6?

Hi,
we've just upgraded from CS4 to CS6.
A composition that used to need 9 minutes to render, needs 2 hours now.
AE is updated and we don´t use the option "Render Multiple Frame Simultaneosly"
We've tried to delete different layers from the composition and the only way to improve rendering time is deleting wiggle expressions. Even if we transform these expressions to keyframes, the render lasts hours.
We need our wiggle expressions, how can we solve this problem?
Thank you very much!

What version of After Effects?
Adobe After Effects CS6 11.0.2.11
Have you installed the recent updates?
Yes, the application is updated
What operating system?
Mac OSX 10.6.8
What kind(s) of source footage?
DV-PAL in a .mov container, .png graphics, .ai graphics, .psd graphics and .wav PCM audio
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
There aren’t error messages
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
Rendering
Has this ever worked before? If this worked before by doesn't work now, what has changed on your computer in the intervening time?
Yes, it worked properly working with CS4 in the same computer.
Do you have QuickTime installed.  If so, what version?
Yes, Quicktime 10.0 (131)
What other software are you running?
No other software running while rendering
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
Trapcode Suite 2008
Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected.
2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core intel Xenon
10 GB 800MHzNVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
System disk, data disk and lot of network drives
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)?
No
Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects?
I think it’s not working (attached screenshot) but the graphic card is compatible with OpenGL 2.0. How can we solved this?
(GPU not available. Incompatible CUDA driver or device)
Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both?
Only with the final render
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing?
No

  • How to fix extremely slow printing from web pages with latest updates (iMac) & HP Office jet printer. (It was not a problem with earlier versions of Firefox & same computer & printer.)

    The latest two updates of Mozilla Firefox are not useful for me because of extremely slow printing of web pages. It was never a problem before. Same iMac and HP officejet printer. How can I either fix it, or revert to an earlier version of the browser (without losing all my bookmarks) which didn't cause this problem?

    Try scanning from your Mac.  Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
    Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom.  Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

  • Extremely Slow Render Speed - GoPro and Twixtor

    Hello!
    I am new to the forums, and slightly new to AE, please don't yell at me if there's a similar thread around, I had a look, but nothing really suited my exact case.
    I've shot footage on my GoPro Hero 3+ Black, at 720p, 100fps.
    I've applied Twixtor to the individual parts required, the rest is at standard speed.
    I come across two main problems, one: The live preview is in really terrible quality, and is practically unusable due to its choppiness and blurriness.
    Two, being the render time. I tried a two minute video with about 10 seconds worth of slow mo with Twixtor. This took 9 hours to render to AVI. I tried again with WMV, same deal.
    I tried an even shorter clip (just straight 5 seconds of slowmo), this was a shorter render time, but still far too long to be practical.
    I'm using AE CS6, running Win 8.1, 2.4gHZ i5, 8GB DDR3, and a 2GB GForce Graphics card.
    I've tried tweaking the preferences for multiple core utilization etc etc, still no bonus.
    Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is it always meant to be this slow?
    Cheers,
    Dan

    Depending on the settings Twixtor can be extremely slow. If you have a lot of rolling shutter artifacts or motion blur in your original video you can also get terrible artifacts. Here's an important thing. MP rendering most likely will not work with Twixtor or any temporal effects so turn it off. The only way to know if your machine is behaving normally is to look at the shot and do some testing. Some shots just require a lot of tweaking to significantly slow down.
    If you shot at 100 fps and you want to playback in slow motion then the easiest way, and the best way to start is to go to Footage Interpretation and set the frame rate of your footage to 29.97 or 24 or what ever your deliverable product will be, then drop the footage in a new comp with the same frame rate. No Twixtor required.
    Now if you want to slow things down more or speed them up you are working from a much better place and the whole process will be much easier and faster to render. Twitter will also work better.

  • How do I fix extremely slow rendering with buffered images?

    I've found random examples of people with this problem, but I can't seem to find any solutions in my googling. So I figured I'd go to the source. Basically, I am working on a simple platform game in java (an applet) as a surprise present for my girlfriend. The mechanics work fine, and are actually really fast, but the graphics are AWFUL. I wanted to capture some oldschool flavor, so I want to render several backgrounds scrolling in paralax (the closest background scrolls faster than far backgrounds). All I did was take a buffered image and create a graphics context for it. I pass that graphics context through several functions, drawing the background, the distant paralax, the player/entities, particles, and finally close paralax.
    Only problem is it runs at like 5 fps (estimated, I havn't actually counted).
    I KNOW this is a graphics thing, because I can make it run quite smoothly by commenting out the code to draw the background/paralax backgrounds... and that code is nothing more complicated than a graphics2d.drawImage
    So obviously I am doing something wrong here... how do I speed this up?

    are the parallax images translucent by any chance? The most efficient way to draw images with transparent areas is to do something like this:
         public static BufferedImage optimizeImage(BufferedImage img)
              GraphicsDevice gd = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getDefaultScreenDevice();
              GraphicsConfiguration gc = gd.getDefaultConfiguration();
              boolean istransparent = img.getColorModel().hasAlpha();
              BufferedImage img2 = gc.createCompatibleImage(img.getWidth(), img.getHeight(), istransparent ? Transparency.BITMASK : Transparency.OPAQUE);
              Graphics2D g = img2.createGraphics();
              g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, null);
              g.dispose();
              return img2;
         }I copied this from a util class I have and I had to modify it a little, I hope I didn't break anything.
    This piece of code does a number of things:
    - it allows the images to be hardware accelerated
    - the returned image is 100% compatible with the display, regardless of what the input image is
    - BITMASK transparent images are an incredible amount faster than translucent images
    BITMASK means that a pixel is either fully transparent or it is fully opaque; there is no alpha blending being performed. Alpha blending in software rendering mode is very slow, so this may be the bottleneck that is bothering you.
    If you require your parallax images to be translucent then I wouldn't know how to get it to draw quicker in an applet, other than trying out java 6 update 10 to see if it fixes things.

    How did you do that?
    There are many potential reasons that a Mac may be running slower than expected, but more information is required to begin troubleshooting, much more.
    Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding. It is premature to conclude your hard disk is failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
    To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
    Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
    When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
    Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
    Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
    Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
    It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
    Copy and paste its output in a reply.
    Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
    EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
    When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
    After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
    Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
    You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
    Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
    Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
    To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
    System performance problems for reasons that cannot be isolated to any other cause justify anSMC reset. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.

  • How to fix my slow wifi on my Macbook Air?

    Hello!
    I have been having issues with wifi on my late 2010 Macbook Air. I have OSX 10.9.4. I notice that my wireless issues are fine if I'm within 10 feet from my wireless router. If I boot my same MBA using Windows, I have no issues what so ever and can even go outside and have great speeds. I have tried different browsers on the mac side with no change, I have also tried different networks with no change. I have used my fiancé's MBP and she has great connectivity throughout the house. So, I have ruled out a network issue and a hardware issue as the internet is fine on my MBA when using the windows side.
    I do have to mention that my screen was replaced a little over two years ago and did read that some people who had repairs done to their laptops sometimes found that their antennae was not properly hooked back up, but again, I'm ruling this out because I believe I would still have connectivity issues on the windows side of my MBA?
    I have done some research here and tried disabling BT with no luck. I also tried fixed 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz channels with no luck either. Also, in my research, I found a neat app called EtreCheck and have posted those results below. Any tips or trouble shooting I can try from here would be greatly appreciated!

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How I fixed my slow speeds

    This may not work for everyone, but I have been experiencing some slow speeds both wired and wireless in my office. I fixed it by doing the following:
    1. Open up a windows pc to the command prompt (start -> run -> cmd )and type: ipconfig -all
    2. Make a note of your DNS servers.
    3. Go to the "Network" section of your system preferences. Under TCP / IP, add in those DNS servers on the Mac.
    This fixed some of my problems!
    Good Luck!
    Colin

    this one is a known fix. this works for me and for the customers i support. but if you are running wireless, you may want to access the channel, popwer and mtu settings of your wireless router

    Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
    A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
    Once you are in Safe Mode, click the Apple  top left in your screen.

  • How to fix the SLOW speed & FREEZING of Firefox 5

    Firefox 4 worked very well - I was so pleased!l But since downloading the update to Firefox 5, the browser loads sooo slowly and freezes often. I've re-downloaded, restarted, and have to "end program" often. Is there a fix?
    OS: Windows XP
    Computer: Samsung Netbook N110
    If no fix, can I download Firefox 4 again?

    LTurner,
    Here are a few numbers from SWMBO's U110, running on AC mains:
    Cold boot to login screen: 50 seconds.
    Login screen to desktop: 20 seconds.
    Shutdown from start menu to power off:  20 seconds.  (after waiting for system to settle, and some normal use)
    Launch FireFox: 8 seconds.
    It seems pretty snappy to me.  HDTune shows that the little HD isn't all that fast, but for My Lady's use, it's plenty fast enough.  You may have very different requirements and expectations.
    A few top-of-my-head (or elsewhere on the anatomy) things to check.  Some may not be available, I haven't dug  that deep.
    Both cores enabled in BIOS.
    Hard drive mode in BIOS.
    Running on AC or battery.
    Power plan settings re perfomance.
    DMA enabled in Windows (control  panel, hardware manager, IDE controller properties).
    HD full/nearly full or needing defrag (your clean install should have ruled this out)
    Unknown/unexpected services, process, or applications using HD or CPU (check w/task manager)
    I'm curious to know how your experience compares with the above.  It's always possible that you have some rogue stuff running, Windows is mis-configured, or even that the machine is defective in some way.
    From here, it's a nice little machine.  (well, as nice as any Vista box can be...) YMMV.

  • How to fix my slow, freezing Macbook Pro (2012 version)?

    Hi! I bought my macbook pro in Jan 2013, it is the Mid 2012 version. Since yesterday, it is running super slow, and freezes constantly. I've deleted a lot of files from my computer and transferred them to a usb to clear out some place on the disk. Still, the mac is lagging and color wheel shows up for nearly anything I do on the computer.

    Boot into your Mountain Lion Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and use Disk Utility to both repair permissions (there will be some that cannot be repaired - you can safely ignore these) and then verify your hard drive. Repair if necessary.
    The type of slowness that you write about can sometimes - sometimes - be caused by a failing hard drive. Let's just hope you pass the verify test.
    Call back,
    Clinton

  • Exporting to broadband extremely slow render

    When I'm exporting a sequence to broadband quality it takes over 5 hours to export about an hour of video. How come its taking this long when I can export at full quality in only 12 minutes?

    Think about it like this. You have a file that's 100MB, and you want to make another file in another codec that's 100MB. No problem. Simple transcode does it. Now you want to make a file that's 50MB. Takes twice as much work. Twice as much thinking and compression has to go on to reduce the file size. A lot of calculations have to be made to figure out how to throw out the data to make the file smaller. It can't simply trim off the last third of the movie. OK, now you want it to be 12MB. Now does it do that? A lot more thinking has to go into figuring out which bits of information can be thrown away and which can be preserved to make the file that small. The more compression you put into an image the more processing is required, the more calculations in determining pixels, and the more calculations the longer it takes.

  • How to fix a slow mouse in Elements 13 editor

    I purchased Elements 13 as my new camera was not supported by Elements 11 which I was currently using. The organiser works fine and I Like the new interface but when trying to use the image editor the mouse has terrible lag. Its almost impossible to select anything in the menu.
    Elements 11 works fine and I can happily merge and align several RAW files without problems and the efficiency scale never drops bellow 100. I have an I5 machine with 8Gb of ram and windows 8.1. I assume the problem lies with Elements 13 as no other software is effected and the machine is really quick. I have found several other comments about the same problem but no solutions. Any idea's?

    You might try the Elements forum for more specific advice.  This forum is for Photoshop.
    In Photoshop you just make a new document (square, 200 - 300 pixels), draw your star (shape tool has a star in it), fill it with black, then go to Define Brush Preset.  If elements can do it I'd guess it's pretty similar.
