  • How to fix my Ipod 3rd Generation?

I got a notification that I should download the new IOS 5 software for my ipod. When I did so the download was fine but when I was installing it to my ipod it just didnt work. Now my ipod has a black screen. When I turn it off then on again it tells me to connect to itunes. I do so, itunes tells me I need to restore my ipod, so again I do, it says that itunes is preparing ipod to be restored then I get a error code come up of 1604. I followed every instruction it tells me to do to fix it and after 24 hours of doing the same thing my ipod is still a black screeen. How else can I fix this?

    If you tried everything here:

    Then as the article says:
æIf the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service."

1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

If you have been syncing with itunes on a computer, then should not be a problem. If you've never dones so, then you should. If you don't have a computer, then at least set up icloud on your device and perform a backup in icloud.

  • If I buy a 3rd generation iPad now can I trade it in for a 4th generation iPad?

If I buy the iPad 3rd generation tomorrow if they are out of the 4th generation by the time I get there, can I still trade it in for a 4th generation iPad when they become available again even though I bough it on the 4th generation launch day? I am very impatient and I have waited many months while I saved up my money to get one and now that the 4th generation is out I figured I should just get that instead of an older one.

If you buy the old 'new' ipad and then return it, Apple reseller stores might have a no return policy because it is a discontinued product. Given that you saved money for a new ipad, if you can't get one tomorrow, save a little longer and buy one with more memory than you planned, because you cannot increase that.
Can you get to a store before they open tomorrow? Check store websites to see when they go on sale. Or can you now order an ipad 4 on-line at Apple. Then, if you buy one tomorrow, cancel the on-line order.
There has been no announcement that the ipad 2 is also being discontinued, yet the old 'new' ipad is discontinued. That says something. If you have to wait, I suggest you do that to get an ipad with a faster processor and hopefully avoid the wi-fi connection problem that some have had with the old 'new' ipad.
    Hope this helps.

  • Just purchased a 3rd generation iPad and cannot connect to house wifi.  It keeps searching for a connection but the gear wheel just keeps on turning.  The wi-fi spot is listed and I entered the security WEP code. I connected a Macbook without problems.

Just purchased a 3rd generation iPad and tried to go thru the startup and connect to the house wi-fi.  Found the house wi-fi among the listings and was prompted to enter the WEP security code.  Gear wheel just keeps on turning and a connection is never established. I have tried this 4 times with the same results.  A desktop computer is connected and I easily connected a Macbook without any issues. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try Settings, select the network name, click on the blue arrow to Forget This Network and try signing in again.

  • 3rd generation iPad navigation problem in Middle East countries ?

My 3rd generation iPad navigation is not working ... Only the GPS is working but the directions is not working in Kuwait or in any Middle East countries ... How I can fix it ??

Sounds like you need to use recovery mode now in order to restore your iPad. You will need to use iTunes for this.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror to an AppleTV.  The devices will connect, but the video monitors show only a blank screen.  The AppleTV's work fine with various other iOS & OSX devices. Ideas?

I have three AppleTV's where I work.  I have two at home.  I have an iPhone 4S running iOS7.0.2 which mirrors smoothly via AirPlay.  I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and a 2011 iMac, both running Mountain Lion, both of which mirror smoothly through AirPlay.  I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror.  The iPad will connect to the AppleTV, but the TV's and projectors only show a black screen when connected: the iPad screen looks as it should, except that the transitions become jumpy when connected via AirPlay.  This is true on both networks: at home and at work.  Another gentleman using the network where I work has the most recent iPad, also running iOS7.0.2, and he is having the same problem.  I have tried to "Reset All Settings."  I have tried to "Restore."  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Has anyone else experience difficulty mirroring the iPad through AirPlay since the release of iOS7.0.2?

No problems exists with the router (on either network described above) or the multiple AppleTV's which are able to mirror multiple other OSX & iOS devices seamlessly. The problem is strictly with the iPad and iOS7.

This is an iOS 7 AirPlay mirroring bug...
To make matters worse, the iPad automatically drops its mirroring session 45 seconds after it auto-locks.
3-4 mirroring sessions is all it takes for the iPad mirroring to freeze up.
After this happens, mirroring to an Apple TV only projects a blank screen.
Once the mirroring is hung, the only way to fix it is to restart the iPad.
Apple please fix this iOS 7 issue!

  • 1st generation vs. 3rd generation Ipad and Cable TV Viewing app.

I recently had the opportunity to borrow a 3rd generation ipad from work.  I brought it home and loaded the optimum online app. from my cable company that allows you to watch cable anywhere you are within range of your home WIFI supplied by them.
I was really surprised when I was able to take the ipad out back to the furthest most point of our property, where a summer screen house is set up,
and although the signal from my Netgear WNR834B v2 router was hovering around 1 or 2 signal strength on the iPad3, the quality of the TV signal being streamed did not waver at all.  The picture was absolutely pristine (after a few seconds) and there were absolutely no drop outs of the streaming video.  Again, THIS with absolute minimum signal strength.
I had to return the device to work, but picked up a used 1st generation iPad on ebay, and loaded the same optimum online app. onto it.  On the 1st generation device, the signal was both visually fuzzier (at that furthest point in the backyard) and had freezes and breaks in the streaming video at that same furthest point outside at the edge of the property.  It works great inside near the router or in most points in the house and is pristine.
My first question...did they updgrade some technology between the 1st and 3rd generation iPads that would account for the difference in the way the weak signal drops out on the 1st generartion device, but did not on the 3rd generation ipad?  Or could that be the app itself somehow making use of the upgraded technology between the two generation of devices?
My second question....I'm trying to figure out how to boost and extend the WIFI signal to that furthest point in the backyard, which is several hundred feet away from the house.  An Airport Extreme doesn't seem to provide that distance level of extention, unless I bought two, but that would require one of them being outside to cover the distance I'm trying to get to.  I'm contemplating purchasing an Amped Wireless Repeater and range Extender that advertises 10,000 square feet extention, but the reviews on the device are mixed.
    Any input would be appreciated.

The major difference between the two versions is that Generation 2 and higher products allow simultaneous dual band wireless operation.
Your Time Capsule will produce either a 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz network, but not both simultaneously. Since you have iPhones connecting to the network, you are using the 2.4 GHz band.
Most of your newer devices are capable of connecting at the much faster 5 GHz speeds, but if you set your current Time Capsule up to operate at 5 GHz, the iPhones and iPod will not be able to connect.
A newer version Time Capsule produces both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simultaneously, so faster devices would connect to the 5 GHz band and slower devices connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
That being said, there is also something to be said for leaving well enough alone. Your call.

  • 3rd generation ipad exchange

I read online that 3rd generation ipads acquired within the past 30 days can be exchanged for the 4th generation ipad at no cost. Is this true? And if that is the case, where and how can one go about doing so?

I have read that some stores in northern California are doing a 30 day exchange but this may not be a company wide policy. I suggest you contact a store and ask them.

  • After iOS 7 update nothing will download on my 3rd generation iPad.

Since updating to ios7 nothing will download on my 3rd generation ipad. This is even the case after restoring, what can I do to fix?

I am not getting any error messages. It just sits and spins it does not matter whether I am attempting to get new apps from the app store or download updates. Since restoring, I am trying to place apps from the cloud back on the ipad and it just continually acts like it is doing something. This is for hours on end and nothing happens.

If you bought it from Apple within the last 14 days then you can take it back for a refund (Apple don't do trade-ins) - if you bought from another store then check their returns policy.

  • HT4060 why my 3rd generation ipad have to charge more than 8 hours only full?

    is't common???

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • I can't update my 3rd generation ipad to ios 8

I want to update my 3rd generation iPad to iOS 8 through the OTA update. I have enough space as it requires 5.8GB and I have almost 10 GB. I clicked on download and install. It did download the iOS update file and then it says, "Preparing Update." In that part, it is very slow and suddenly it freezes then reboots my device to apple logo. When it goes back, it still says, "Preparing Update" and then it will freeze again and reboot. I don't know what to do. I want to have iOS 8 so bad. I have enough space and I don't run apps on the background. I have this problem over a day now. I even tried deleting the iOS 8 file and re-download it but same thing happens. Any suggestion or advice? Thanks in advance.

  • No updates available for my 1st generation Ipad 3G but application won't work without an update. WHat do I Do?

I recently updated all the applications on my ipad. Now the direct TV app won't load. It's requesting an IOS upgrade. How do I continue to use the app when there is not an upgrade available for my device?

You may be able to get the last compatible version of the App for your iPad if the Developer has one available.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/17/apple-begins-offering-last-compatible-versio n-of-apps-for-users-running-legacy-versions-of-ios/
You may need to download the newest version to a compatible device first using the same Apple ID or to a computer running iTunes again using the same Apple ID. Then you should be given the option to download the latest compatible version for your First generation iPad when you tap on the install button in the App store on your iPad.
