How to fix screens? (finder blinking)

Hi, I've been facing a problem for some time now were there seems to be some visualization problem with either finder or having multi-able screens open. When moving from one space to another the windows on the desktop including the desktop contents blink in and out. I've tried uninstalling third party apps that may have been responsible and reinstalling os x 10.7 and updating to the current 10.7.2 but I still have this problem. It also seems that around the same time that this occurred the cpu and memory use has dramatically increased when using finder to the point of over heating of the cpu and extremely high fan rpm. If seen on other forums that others seem to be experiencing the same problem facing the screen blinking but have found no solution, can anyone here help in any way. It's very annoying when your windows are blinking when moving from space to space and can inconveniently slow things down.

Has anyone worked out how to fix screen flicker on MBP late 2010 running snow leopard?

Hey, I have a MBP late 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I'm having trouble with external screens. They work fine 70% percent of the time but the rest of the time there is intermittent flickering. This I have determined is a something with the computer and not the screen as other computers work on the screens without fault and the problem occurs on multiple screens when using the same laptop. This is a video of the flickering, http://youtu.be/vvAlhDQD7iw . I think it might be something in Snow Leopard as the problem does not persist when I'm using bootcamp. I think the flickering might have started after one of the Snow Leopard updates (10.6.4 maybe?) but this is not definate. I've had this problem for at least the last year but with a ramp in university work this semester this problem is really starting to be annoying. I tried turning off "Automatic graphics switching" and this had no effect whatsoever. The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. I had a look for updated drivers from NVidia but these would not install saying the system was incompatible. I have seen similar problems on here and other places but either they have not had a solution or have had a solution which did not fix the problem for me. Anyhelp would be great, specially if Apple would tell me how to fix it.

Thanks Guys, I didn't try the different display settings as this wouldn't affect multiple screens (and when other computers are plugged in they use the same frequencies). I did try the update posted above but unfortunately this hasn't worked. So I decided to bite the nail and reinstalled Snow Leopard on top of the previous installation (ie without erasing the HD) and then updating it. It seems to be running better so may have been a problem with one of the updates. I'll report back if the flickering comes back though.

Is "rotation lock" set in the Control Panel?
The Control Panel is accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Check the icon with the padlock and circular arrow.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Also...
Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. AHT may be on a second Disc if there was one.

How to fix unstable Finder?

Since updating to Yosemite, Finder on my 1 year old Mac Book Pro has become unstable. Sometimes Finder can't see the content on my NAS below first folder level. Sometimes the same happens with Dropbox - and I then need to acces my text files going through Word which works for some reason. Sometimes it just freezes all together, sometimes I can't use cmd+uppercase+4 to take screen snapshots. Etc.
Frustating! Anyone know how to solve this? Anyone else had the same issues?

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when complete, test again.

Since your under warranty, I would have Apple replace the EFI firmware and check the machine out for hardware issues as well.
Buy AppleCare and a external drive for TimeMachine backups.

How to fix screen resolutions for games

I play on Pogo.com and recently noticed that my screen is split when playing games. There is too much space between the game and chat area. If I enlarge it to max, it doesn't take all the picture I need on the left side on some games, but always either small or larger screen there's a 2" space that should not be there. Can you please help?

How to fix screen freeze

I have tried increasing RAM, repairing disk, clearing vents, using smcFanControl. I have plenty of hd space, but i still have an unresponsive frozen screen happening several times a week. It does it whether I'm browsing or not, sometimes even when ive just booted up. Any suggestions welcome.

I don't really know where to begin. I downloaded a software update the other day, but can't remember what it was, and am anyway unsure if that's related.
Suddenly, several programs have started not launching. They'll hang, act strangely if they open at all, and often not launch, period.
And the problem is expanding.
I've done numerous hardware diagnostics, all coming back fine. I've defragged the disk.
I've attempted to verify and repair permissions, and every time, it hangs toward the end of the process, requiring a 'suicide'.
I live in Cambodia, so any solutions especially not requiring the purchase of software unavailable here (almost all of it) would be welcome, but any help in understanding the problem is appreciated.

If you have your installer disks then try this:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.0.6 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Defragging is unnecessary with Panther. Panther defrags automatically for files under 20 MBs in size. Furthermore, if you disk is damaged or corrupted in any way defraggin can worsen the problem to the point of having to erase and reinstall.
I hope you maintain backups.

I been trying to Close or Force quit my Finder application but it keeps reopening. The program shows its unresponsive but yet the program works perfectly fine. Can someone please help me out this is driving me insane. I was trying to Setup my new Apple remote but was not responsive to my Macbook air I have been told to download this software called Candelair and it wont press through unless I have all applications not opened and so i have to Quit All applications so thats what brought up the finder application issue. Can someone please help soon as possible?

How to fix "Find..." in the Finder???

Whenever I do a cmd F to find a file on my hard drive I get no results even though several results should be returned.
It's the same if I go to the Find menu on my desktop menu bar and select the "Find..." option directly. It never finds anything, no results, no messages, even though I know files exist.
As a test I created a folder name test, placed several files in it. While the window had focus, I did cmd F and entered various filename strings that should have been 'found' within the folder. But nothing.
I'm actually not a fan of Spotlight since I never need to search within files, just for files themselves.
Anyone know how to fix the "Find" in the Finder?

Spotlight doesn't search inside any files, and neither does the FInder (unfortunately, the Finder uses Spotlight for all of it's searches). Metadata importers for common filetypes and various applications put entries into the Spotlight database (well, that is the theory anyway). The Spotlight database is what is used to find metadata such as filenames, so a damaged or corrupt database can cause problems. A couple of websites you can check for troubleshooting ideas:
