How To Flip Audio Channels? (KT3 Ultra2 Onboard Audio)

Installed Winxp and the Sp1 update, then the 4.43 via 4in1's.  Then I installed the onboard audio driver downloaded off this site for my board.  When I click the RIGHT SPEAKER in the audio setup, sound comes out the LEFT speaker, and visa versa.  I know the speakers are not backwards, as they have not moved in over a year (and have went through two computers now).
Anyone know how to switch the channels over so they are right?
Kyle

When working with Audio in most NLE's, i.e. Premiere Elements, or Pro, there are basically three areas that can affect how the Audio is handled on one's system. First, there is the Sound settings in Windows (from Control Panel). Next, the Audio card/chip probably/possibly has a console to make settings at the card/chip level. Last, and these are really two locations, but I'm only counting them as one since they are both in the NLE - Edit>Preferences>Audio & Audio Hardware. This is where Steve is referring to. Check all settings, and I'd suggest doing so in the order that I listed them above: OS, Audio card, then Premiere. A Mute, or by-pass in the first two, can override the settings in Premiere, and you may have its setting correct, but still not be able to effectively use your hardware.
The exact settings chosen will depend on the exact hardware that is properly installed. Without knowing all of your hardware and other settings elsewhere, one cannot give you a definitive answer. Ideally, in the settings drop-downs, you *should* see your hardware listed. Look closely, as these can be a bit cryptic.
If you are still unable to get your hardware working properly, a fourth place to look would be Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager for your Audio hardware. Check that Device Manager sees your hardware, and that it is working properly.
If all is set up properly, but still not working, report back with exact specs on your system, including all of your Audio hardware. There are possibly some more steps that can be taken. I will not mention them now, as they *should not* be needed. If you do need further assistance, please list every option in all of the drop-down lists from Premiere, so we can know what your choices are.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • KT3 Ultra2 onboard audio not recognized by win 98SE

I have a KT3 Ultra2 MB with the onboard audio enabled in BIOS and running Win98SE.  I installed the drivers from the driver disk and followed all the prompts from windows.  The device is listed under system and multimedia devices.  But windows itself does not recognize that the device exists for playing sounds, recording et al.  Multimedia properties says there is no playback device.  Sound recorder sees no device.  Volume control does not come up at all.  The MSI sound manager will not open at all.  I downloaded the latest drivers from the website, but there are no instructions as to how to install them, they just expand into a collection of files with no readme.
    Silent in Texas

Reintalling Win98se certainly didn't do the trick for me.  I've spent two days installing, trying a few changes, re-installing, trying something else, reinstalling.  I even tried removing all my cards except the video but the problem was identical every try.
Can you think of anything special you did during or after the re-install that did the trick?  Do you remember versions that you were using and where you got them?  This may be a case of the latest drivers being worse than some earlier ones, or some combination of older chipset, newer audio or something crazy.
Speaking of the failed POST, I had a thing with a different MSI board a while ago, where it wouldn't hold the BIOS settings.  Every so often (if it was unplugged for a few hours) it would reset (as if the RTC Reset had been jumpered and the checksum was off).  If your video card was AGP, and the BIOS reset itself to "primary video = PCI" it might look like nothing was happening on boot up.
I admit that I am about ready to pitch this board too, (or try to return it at least).

  • KT3 Ultra2 Onboard Sound Left Side Only??

Ok.....i got this motherboard and I love it........however I can only get sound out of the left side!  Now i'm a techy...and I am stumped.  Any suggestions?  (yes I have tried different speakers/headphones, made sure the balance is not all the way left, different drivers, etc....etc...).

    Hello!
Have you tested your hearing?   Sorry!
I got a Tbird too, of the 100 kind. There is also a 133 kind. Which is yours?
Has it always been like this, that is, have it ever worked? Normally sound problems are Windows related, but this was odd.
Is there good contact for the speaker cable? Try jerking it a bit, in and out?
Any error messages in Device Manager? Could try - again - uninstalling current driver, reboot to enter SafeMode and reinstall.
Here is an advice from the Internet: "You are probably using a mono plug for stereo speakers. Either that, or the driver may not be loading correctly. On some systems, if your sound card drivers are not loaded in CONFIG.SYS, you will only have left-side sound." http://www.5starsupport.com/faq/sound.htm#1-5

  • KT3 Ultra2 Problems. Baby Steps. Question 1: Volume controls

The volume control window in Windows XP Pro is using the "wave" file volume slider, not my "CDplayer" volume slider. I checked to make sure that I have set the CD-player to use analogue sound. Is this normal?

Just wanted to let you know that I have experienced the same characteristic on a Kt3 Ultra2 and onboard audio.  I have also noticed a similar situation with Windows XP using a Creative SB Live 5.1 on a K7M mobo and a Santa Cruz sound card on an A7V333 mobo.
I will also be interested in finding out how to make a change to enable controlling the audio level on the analogue CD ROM input.  I believe it is a Win XP issue and not an issue with the KT3 Ultra2 onboard audio or its associated driver.

  • Front-Right Channel Dead on KT3 Ultra2 MoBo???

I have the onboard AC'97 audio card and I have it set to play 5.1 sound. The front-right channel doesn't seem to work. In stereo mode (with headphones or only one cable plugged in) the right channel still doesn't work. I just moved my motherboard to a new housing. Could I have shorted something out in the process?

I really didn't miss much, unless they changed the version of the mobo after mine. Taking it straight from the manual, there are only three ports for input or output on the board. One is either or, which is the line in hook up, which in turn can be turned into the line out for the 4.1 system. One is a mic input which can't be changed from input to output. The other is for the 2.1 speaker set up. On an ATX tower set up, which this board is, the top connection is for output only, middle is for input/output, bottom is for microphone. Quote from his signature "KT3 Ultra2 MoBo AMD Athlon XP 1700+ "Palomino" OC'ed to 1.6 GHz" Same as mine except I use the amd 1800. The manual specifically says that you can get a 4.1 setup with just the board, but in order to get the 5.1 you have to get the bracket. So I am right in what I say. The audio codec for this board has changed, so you know you might have different board then I, but models don't really change their layout once they are made. Everything on that picture is what I have too. My AC'97 is a 6 channel audio as well, but only way to enable that is by getting the bracket. This is stated on one of the versions of the board, that comes with the RAID, "SPDIF out (through S-Bracket only)" http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KT3_Ultra2-R Just the standard board w/o raid: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KT3_Ultra2 "Chip Integrated (6-channel S/W audio).
    • Direct Sound AC'97 Audio.
    • 6-channel analog output with optional S-Bracket only" http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KT3_Ultra
So to look in conclusion, I really don't know how you can get by with the same board as I, w/o getting the optional parts needed in order to enable them.....(which I guss I could be wrong) that is just how i see it though
edit, what is up with the forum system? heh

  • [VIA] KT3 Ultra2 - - need to "Assign IRQ to VGA" in Bios but how?

    G'day people,
I am having a little drama with the instalation of a new video card. The system recoginses a hardware device, and nVidia WDM Video Capture (Universal) bbut after driver install, I get an error This device cannot start (Code 10). The FAQ over at nVidia says that:
The Code 10 error is most often a result of not having the option "Assign IRQ to VGA" enabled in your motherboards system BIOS.
My problem is I cannot find how to enable this option in bios. Any ideas? Just going to reboot and edit this post with the BIOS version.
Okay.....When I enter Bios the info say AMIBIOS vers 3.31a.
    Thanks.

Thanks for this help people, I am quite new at this. Only been tinkering for about 5 years.

That's not the right number, I belive what you are looking at is the American Megatrend version, not the actual BIOS string. It's usually at the bottom of the screen.
The only available BIOS versions are 1.X or 5.X depending on the version of mobo you are using. You need to confirm that first.
Okay how about version 5.5 date is 07/10/02.

Did you uninstall the previous card's driver properly? Enter SafeMode to find out.
Okay the sound card is in IRQ17 which it shares with an modem. (???)
Yes I made sure I uninstalled the old graphics card driver before I installed the new one.

  • How can I flash the bios of a MSI kt3 ultra2 without a floppy drive?

How can I flash the bios of a MSI kt3 ultra2 without a floppy drive?
I used the msi live update software to download the bios update programe...when I run it gives 2 options dos and windows
but the windows option is greyed out and the dos option requires a floppy drive (mine does not work)..what can I do?

I can tell you what you need to do but unfortunately - not how to do all of it.
You will need to make a bootable CD with the neccessary files on it .- Somewhere on the www you should be able to find the instructions. I have flashed from a CD   with no problems on a K7S5A board . The CD image was available as a complete download and just needed burning to the CD  so - apart from the obvious ( BIOS file , BIOS installer ,command.com,msdos .sys, io.sys)I don't know what else might  be needed on the CD- unfortunately the disk I made is long gone.
I'm sure a search will find what you need to know.
Once you have the disk -just insert in CD Drive - restart and follow the instructions.

  • USB 2.0 Issues with KT3 Ultra2 6380E

    Windows XP SP1
    Bios: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T
Hi I was wondering if someone could help me?
My machine has six USB ports.  (1&2) Two ports are
installed on the motherboard, and my users guide says
they are legacy ports. (3&4) two ports are installed
on the d-bracket 2 connector: JLED, connected to
JUSB2, these are what I believe to be my only 2 USB2.0
ports. (4&6)Finally 2 ports are connected via JUSB3 to
the front panel of my Antec case. I think the front
panel of my case has 1.1 connectors so it is
    essentially a 1.1 port.
I am having some difficulty getting my USB ports to
function properly with a USB 2.0 Buslink hard drive
UII-40 72E. I suspect there is some IRQ conflict.
Trying to alleviate this I disabled all the device
drivers I suspected might cause this in the device
manager in safe mode.  I then removed from the device
manager all the USB (2.0 and 1.1) root hubs, and after
that their host controllers.  I then booted to VGA
mode (thinking this should disable the video card
drivers??) and exported this IRQ info from my sys info
after the USB host controllers are reinstalled:
    Resource   Device   Status
IRQ 9   Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System   OK
IRQ 11   RADEON 8500 SERIES    OK
IRQ 21   VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host
    Controller   OK
IRQ 21   VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host
    Controller   OK
IRQ 21   VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host
    Controller   OK
IRQ 21   Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller   OK
    IRQ 0   System timer   OK
IRQ 8   System CMOS/real time clock   OK
IRQ 13   Numeric data processor   OK
IRQ 12   PS/2 Compatible Mouse   OK
IRQ 1   Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2
    Keyboard   OK
IRQ 14   Primary IDE Channel   OK
IRQ 15   Secondary IDE Channel   OK
IRQ 6   Standard floppy disk controller   OK
Next I attempt to (already plugged into D-Bracket
port) power on my buslink USB 2.0 hard drive.  As soon
as I do the machine immediately goes to a blue screen.
No messages given but numbers are shown. I have screen
shots taking with my digital camera.  I then returned
to safe mode, remove the USB drivers as I did before,
and boot to VGA mode.  Once the USB drivers have been
restored I attempt to power on the bus link hard drive
this time plugged into the onboard legacy ports.  I
can I get another blue screen this time including a
message "IRQL not less or equal", again I have taken
screen shots with my digital camera.I then returned to
safe mode, remove the USB drivers as I did before, and
boot to VGA mode.  Once the USB drivers have been
restored I attempt to power on the bus link hard drive
this time plugged into the front panel USB ports
(4&6).  When I power it on Windows XP warns me that I
have a high-speed USB device plugged into a non
high-speed USB hub. But I receive no error messages.
However I do not exceed the drive through "my
computer". I go through the add hardware wizard to try
and at the drive manually and it says the device is
working properly.  Still I do not see the drive.
Finally I tried installing a Buslink USB 2.0 PCI card
after the above steps. I then returned to safe mode,
remove the USB drivers as I did before, and boot to
VGA mode.  Once the USB drivers have been restored I
attempt to power on the bus link hard drive this time
plugged into the PCI card.  The drive seems to be
recognized automatically by Windows XP however my
system slows to a crawl trying to access any hard
drive.  When I try and access the USB 2.0 hard drive I
get a message something to the effect of "(the drive
    letter) not being recognizable".
Any ideas on what could be causing this? The same
Buslink hard drive works great at work on my Windows
2000 machine plugged into the same PCI card using the same USB cable and power supply. Would any other information be useful?
    Thanks!
    andrew

I first tried installing the VIA4in1 and VIA USB2.0 patch. Then I tried the D-bracket after refreshing the usb drivers (I did not disable all other devices like in my original post, should I have?). Same result, blue screen crash at power on.
Next I disable USB ports in BIOS and install USB PCI card. Then power on the USB HD plugged into card. Same result. Computer slow accessing local drives. When I try to access the USB drive I get a "E:/ is not accessible; the file or data is corrupted or unreadable."
Next I remove the USB card. I enter BIOS and set to "2" ports. Presumably this turns on the USB1.1 ports on the mobo. I return to windows xp. It now seems to install the drivers, but just as it finishes I get a "a problem has been encountered instaaling this device (it has done this before but after finishing I get the blue screen most times). Next I goto the device manager, and in my USB devices I have a USB mass storage device w/ a yellow flag. I goto properties and see a:
"the device cannot start (code 10)" device status. I click "troubleshoot" and voila... blue screen.
Finally I reboot, and set 4 ports in BIOS, making my JUSB3 FRONT PANEL usb1.1? ports active. Interestingly these respond like the PCI card. Computer slow accessing local drives. When I try to access the USB drive I get a "E:/ is not accessible; the file or data is corrupted or unreadable." As soon as I power off the USB HD things are normal...
I will take this USB HD to work tomorrow just to ensure its integrity. Any other ideas? What kinds of BIOS settings might F up USB?

  • USB2.0 Install Troubles With WinXP and KT3 Ultra2?

I installed WinXP (Fresh) on my system with the KT3 Ultra2 board in it. I had ACPI (Plug and Play OS Installed) turned OFF in the bios, and I have all 6 USB ports enabled in bios (legacy support off).
Upon installing WinXP and the SP1 full update (~130mb file I believe), I check the device manager to see what was up so far. I had several yellow exclamation marks, but two of the three were expected (onboard audio and my video card had no drivers yet). But the third one threw me... Under "Other devices" I had "USB Host Controller" listed....
So I installed the Via 4in1's version 4.43 using the "quick install" option. Check device manager, same result. Mr. Steveo suggested I try right clicking the controller in the device manager and choosing to "update driver". I did, and it automatically updated the driver and placed it in the USB section of the device manager (with the other USB entries).
The problem is, the device name seems weird: "Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" instead of something like "USB2.0 PCI to USB Host Controller" or something like that. The yellow exclamation mark is gone, but I just dont know if this is the correct device setup or not.
Can any of you other Ultra2 owners tell me if this is what you have in your USB controller list, and if not, how did you install WinXP to get to the point where you had the "correct" listing? Maybe it makes a difference whether ACPI is turned on during install or something?
I tried to run the Via USB2.0 driver file (7011Kb) from the MSI site to see if it would help, but it quits the install and says that the SP1 update drivers are newer and should not be updated with this driver.
Any suggestions or comments are very much appreciated.

I have a similar USB2 problem after installing XP SP1 - yellow question marks in the hardware manager under "Other Hardware"/"USB (Universal Serial Bus)-Controller".
I tried "Uninstalling" the USB controller as was suggested in the forum, but it won't let itself be removed.
When I try "Search for new hardware" it shows a message that an error occurred when installing the hardware, and that the hardware is not properly configured (Code 1). It suggests that I re-install the driver. When I select "re-install driver",  I just get another error message. It asks me if I have a CD or disk wit drivers, but I can't find anything appropriate on the driver disk I got with the motherboard.
Does anyone have an idea what's wrong?
    Regards Steve
Hi, yours is 845E MAX2 motherboard, you should use Intel USB2.0 drivers .
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php
And don't use "search for new hardware", instead you manually point the drivers location to where you extracted the downloaded file. Sometimes WinXP drivers search is "blind"  8)

  • KT3 Ultra2-R, RAID - single disc array

There are threads on this forum that discuss how to create a single disc array using onboard RAID to free up IDE1 and 2 for non-HDD devices.
What exactly does the following taken directly from the KT3 Ultra2-R page on MSI.com mean?
"Note: Only two hard disk drives will adopt the RAID function."
Does this mean that only a maximum of two arrays can be created using either 2, 3 or 4 physical hard drives?

My guess is that the wording of that warning is poor. What it is trying to say is that while four physical drives can be attached to IDE RAID those four physical drives can only be configured as 4 single disc arrays, 2 two disc arrays, or 2 single disc arrays and 1 two disc array.
Instead of "Note: Only two hard disk drives will adopt the RAID function." perhaps "Note: Each array can contain a maximum of two physical drives."
Also, risk_reversal, have you noticed whether or not the physical location of the connection to RAID affects the array? I currently have one single disc array on IDE3 master. If I move a new drive to that location and connect the current drive on IDE4 will that affect the array currently created for that physical drive?
I assume that the drive letters will change but other than that, is the RAID BIOS identifying the drives by some id other than just which IDE they are connected to?

My problem like this; yesterday I playing Audio CD using Power DVD XP, then suddenly the application not  respond , so I reset the computer . After booting ,the hard disk can not detect. So turn off the system without do any thing ,let rest 10 minutes & turn on, the hard disk  can detect ,so go to windows  again, try play cd  again, but after this the system was not  respond same like above problem .so reset the pc ,after booting the computer can not detect the hard disk again. So I turn off and  until  today in morning .I turn on my pc,after booting the hardisk can detect.but can’t go to window anymore, because all inside my hdd
    was lose, my D Drive data also missing (I got 2 partition-1st partition-C Drive: OS+ Software; 2nd partition -D Drive :MP3 song +My document).But I go to FDISK ,can’t access drive.
This problem I not sure is hard disk problem or power supply problem or mainboard problem. But can’t be the power supply not enough power, because I  just have 1 HDD , 1 CDRW Drive,1 Floppy, Mainboard with 1 chipset fan ,AMD Athlon XP1500+  c/w original fan ,VGA+VGA fan & sound card only. But my cousin using P4 2.4 GHz using cheaper & no name PSU with 300watt only and have more drive&may cards:1HDD(7200rpm)+HDD Fan,1CDRW Drive,1 DVD ROM ,1 Geforce2 display +FAN ,1 creative sound card, internal modem & network card. So  I think the PSU is no problem and this PSU ,I have check from AMD site ,this PSU recommended by AMD and can support AMD Athlon XP 1500+ to 1700+ only.
But got one time, my pc have usb keyboard problem ,during system restart with press reset, after booting ,the pc can’t detect the keyboard ,and I have enable the legacy  usb support , the problem I solve  just change PS/2 keyboard  only ,after this was working fine. look like same problem but how solve?????
But until today this problem happen .So I need to you help & your good suggestion &good way .please.

"...are there more than one xp 2600+?..." C'mon, didn't you read Dr. Stu's link page ? There are many 2600+ : 133 and 166 FSB. The Thorton, isn't supported, The Tbred. 133 and 166 FSB. are supported, and the Barton 166 FSB are supported. For 166 FSB. CPUs you need to upgrade Bios to ver 5.7 and you need PC 2700 Memory at least, and perhaps a better P.Su.

  • KT3-Ultra2 (MS-6380E) PC3200

Okey once again problem with this board!
I decided to upgrade the comp a bit.
From Barton XP2500+ to Barton XP3000+
    From 3x256MB DDR PC2700 to 2x512MB PC3200
Now ofc I know the board only supports 333MHz FSB.
I need the FSB to be 166MHz(x2=333MHz) for the Barton to run at the proper speed, I have never been able to get the multiplier to work, probably cause the CPU is locked.
Now the newly bought PC3200 refuses to run at a lower speed then 200MHz(x2=400MHz), No matter what I do, User settings, set SPD to HCLOCK. Dosn't matter. As soon as I insert a third DIMM, a PC2700 they obey my rules and works fine at 333MHz, but this board, cant handle 3 DIMMs at 333MHz, running MEMtest86, phat chance.
Using one of the PC3200 with the PC2700 works fine.
Using the second PC3200 with the PC2700 works fine.
But I cant set it up to work with only the two PC3200 cause they wont run at 333MHz, and I cant have all 3 DIMMs cause the board gives me the finger.
Ive also tried using one of the PC3200 and two PC2700, same thing, 3 DIMMs dosnt work.
So my question is, how can I force my PC3200 to run on 166MHz(x2=333MHz)?
    Mainboard MSI KT3-Ultra2 (6380E ver1.0 with BIOS 5.7)
CPU AMD Barton XP3000+ (333MHz version)
Graphic-card Powercolor ATI Radeon 9800 PRO (No OC atm)
    PSU Chieftec (HPC-360-202) 340W, 5V 35A, 3.3V 28A, 12V 17A.
Whole bunch of memories that pass the test when set up properly
    4x512MB DDR PC3200 TwinMOS (matched 2 and 2)
    2x256MB DDR PC2700 Nanya (matched)
    1x256MB DDR PC2700 KVM

Frobe, lets be clear about this. Your rig ran fine with the set up which you described namely 2500 barton and 3x256mb pc2700 Ram. Is that correct?.
You now upgraded to xp3000 (in you sig you say xp3200) and are now using 2 sticks of pc3200 ram. Is this now correct?
With the new cpu and ram your rigs posts and works but you say that your new memory is detected at 400. Where is this showing 400 are you looking in the Bios and it shows HClck+33? Or is this by way of some software utility.
This board can only handle 333 mem by default, I have pc3200 mem in my pc (see my sig) and the bios runs it at HClck speed. There is no Hclck+33 option available.
This board is fussy about all 3 ram slots being used slots 1&3 work best as slots 1 & 2 share the MA channel to the northbridge whereas slot 3 uses the MB channel.
Try Running Fast command at 'Normal' (in advanced chipset>dram control) if you are not already.
You should have no trouble whatsoever running an xp3000 (333) together with pc3200 memory as described. The only reason I have only 1 stick of 512mb in my pc is that I dual boot with windows 98se and it does not work (with98) otherwise have run 1gb of ram with no issues.
What I would also suggest is that you clear the bios and check the clear nvram in the bios as well as follow Fredrik Åsenius advise namely to change the mem from spd to user.
    Hope this helps
