How to Fool Server.app to Keep from Installing Server Software?

Short of needlessly installing the OS X Server 10.8 software on a management-only client, is there a way to "fool" Server.app into thinking that the server software is installed, so that it proceeds directly to the "Choose a Mac" dialog? How, precisely, does Server.app determine whether the server software is already installed?

Strontium90, thanks for the suggestion. I finally got it to work.  I performed the copy FROM the workstation, instead of FROM the Server.  I made the Server Applications folder a shared folder temporarily so that I could access it FROM the workstation and copied the Server App from the Finder window at the workstation.  I think I may have an issue with the Admin account I am using.  I created this Admin account locally in the workstation and then created a network account in the Server with the same short name and password as the local Admin account thinking that the local machine would recognize that network account as the "same" local admin account.  I guess it doesn't work that way.

    how can i uninstall app and program from the imac?

    Most programs (Applications) can be dragged from your Applications folder to the trash, and that will effectively delete them, with the exception of some remnants that no longer have a part to play.
    These applications are usually installed simply by dragging them from a disk image into the Applications folder.
    The other kind of installation is where applications require some ancillary files to be written to deeper parts of the operating system, and these will usually come with an installer. Such an application that is well written will also come with an uninstaller, to remove all of the bits and pieces that were initially placed. For such applications you would use its uninstaller.
    In summary, how you remove an application will mirror how you installed it to begin with.

    You connect the iPad to the computer and use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes to put them on the Mac's internal drive. They can't actually be run on a Mac.

    Hey there Matt.dvs1,
    Although there is not a way to remove past purchases from your iTunes account completely, you can hide them so that you don't have to see them if you don't want to. This article will help you do that:
    iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
    Hide your purchases
    Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
    From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Go to the iTunes Store.
    Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
    Choose a content type by clicking Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from the top of the window.
    A list of your purchased items for the content type you are viewing will appear. Mouse over the item you want to hide until an X appears its top-left corner.
    A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the X.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • HT4946 How do I transfer apps and photos from my ipad to my iPhone?

    I just bought a new iPhone5 after my other putting my other phone the the washing machine!  How do I get my apps and pictures from my ipad to my iphone.  I was not able to save anything from my other ohone.

    Using the same apple ID with both devices opens them up to share apps and data. There are some limits, for example some iPad apps are iPad only, they literally won't work on the iPhone due to the phone's limited resolution.

    how do i transfer apps from iphone 4 to iphone 5 please can anyone help?

    In order to transfer your photos from your old iPhone 4 to a brand new iPhone 5, you should transfer them form your iPhone 4 to your Mac first, thus you can transfer them from your computer to your iPhone 5 later, in this way, you can make it true to transfer photos from your iPhone 4 to your iPhone 5.

  • How to add an App to launchpad from applications

    my iPhoto is gone from launchpad due to the fact it had a huge grey question mark on it and it would not function as an App in launchpad only applications in finder..
    how to put an app in launchpad...
    2nd try at trying to get this answerered..

    Oops, sorry. In #1 I meant to say, "Can you successfully launch _iPhoto_ from its icon in the Applications folder?"
    The reason I suggested my two steps is that I've seen situations where Migration Assistant had been run (after the purchase of a new computer and a subsequent data transfer) where iPhoto did indeed seem confused when opening it from the Dock. After running it from the Applications folder, it would then successfully open when selected in the Dock. I thought that a similarly successful launch of iPhoto from the Applications folder may indeed help the problematic launching from Launchpad.
    As babowa said, icons are automatically added to launchpad. However, Launchpad only references the Applications folder (as I recall). If iPhoto had been moved from /Appllications, then _perhaps_ a question mark may have been present or remained in Launchpad. And a simple restart can often correct such oddball behavior.

  • [iPhone development] How to load the App Store directly from an app?

    I need to figure out how to load the app store from one of my applications by clicking a button. The code is relatively easy to load say a website. But when I use this code:
    -(IBAction)goToAppStore;
    [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://itunes.com/apps/appname"]];
    it does not work, because it says too many redirects occurred.
    Is there a way to load the app store (and load into a specific app info view) directly from the app, instead of loading a website to load the app store?
    Thanks very much,
    LOQ123

    Thank you.
    But I using the one line code I had too many redirects. So, I needed the latter code, which didn't load the app store until all the redirects have happened. Unfortunately I don't understand this code:
    // Process a LinkShare/TradeDoubler/DGM URL to something iPhone can handle
    - (void)openReferralURL:(NSURL *)referralURL {
    NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:referralURL] delegate:self startImmediately:YES];
    [conn release];
    // Save the most recent URL in case multiple redirects occur
    // "iTunesURL" is an NSURL property in your class declaration
    - (NSURLRequest *)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection willSendRequest:(NSURLRequest *)request redirectResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response {
    self.iTunesURL = [response URL];
    return request;
    // No more redirects; use the last URL saved
    - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection {
    [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:self.iTunesURL];
    I'm know where to implement the code, however I don't know where to put my link in inside the specific code up above.
    Please help me
    Thanks very much
