How to force display resolution at 1280x1024, or any specific value?

I bought a KVM from aten, a cs-1764 DVI model, on which both my powermac G4 and G5 attached. The console monitor is Samsung 172x with native resolution at 1280x1024.
For both G4 & G5, the systems can detect my monitor as syncmaster and use its native resolution if I start the system from either box. But when I switch from another, for G4, I have to re-detect the display if I didn't start from that box, the system only knows it's a 1024x768 KVM monitor. For G5, it automatically detects syncmaster everytime but takes 5 seconds to be ready for use.
Is it possible to turn off autodetect feature at specific DVI output and force it to use resolution as designated?

PowerMac G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have the exact same KVM and the same issuue with my powermac G5. I just tried SwitchResX and I don't think it helps. It can configure and fix a resolution for a particular monitor, but the problem with using the KVM, is that it thinks the monitor has been disconnected and so re-arranges the desktop. When you then switch back, it re-arranges it again to fit the 'new' display.
What is needed (I think) is a way to force the resolution of the machine to stay the same when the monitor is disconnected. My G4 and Intel Minis have no problem with this.
Any more ideas anyone?

  • Force Display Resolution

I have a belkin Flip KVM switch hocked up to a PC and my Mac Mini.
I Have a 22 inch monitor connected to the KVM switch.
The problem Every time the Mac mini boots it detects the wrong resolution for the monitor if The monitor is connected to the KVM switch and the Monitor shows "Mode not supported"
If I attach the monitor directly to the Mini it detects the correct 1280 x 960 resolution.
Is there any way to force OS X to always use the 1280 x 960 resolution and not try to auto detect the display? This is in OS X 10.5.1, I never had the problem with Tiger.

Please post the output of 'xrandr'. Do you have the correct graphics drivers installed?

  • How To Increase Display Resolution on RD650

How do I increase the display resolution of the console via the Java viewer or ThinkServer System Manager software?  It's currently limited to a max res of 1024x768. This is a Hyper-V server and I need a better resolution on the host for managing VM's.

If you are mirroring the displays they will have the same resolution, if you are extending the displays you can have different resolutions for each display.

  • How to force Display mode for screen

I am pretty new to enhancements and this is probably an easy question:
I have implemented an enhancement that does a security check for a specific business area.
If the user is of a specific business area i want them to be able to edit the screen. (done)
but if they are of another area i only want them to be able to view the screen.
I am just not sure how to lock them to display only mode.

    Hi Jason,
in the PBO of the screen you can set all INPUT = 1 field to to INPUT = 0 using LOOP AT SCREEN.
But be careful, you will also disable all active buttons in the screen.

  • How to reset display resolution on a MacBook Pro

    Hi,
My MBP 15.4 /2.4GHz display is stuck at a low colour display and I am unable to get it back to normal. I was working in MS Remote Desktop Connection, switched into OS X's Universal Access in System Preferences and that's when the fun started.
I've tried resetting PRAM using CommandOption+PR, but to no avail. My display settings in System Preferences show what one would expect - 1440x900, millions of colours. Changing these and switching back does nothing.
The thing is, when I start up, the desktop shows the display as it should be for a split second before it garbles the display's colours. It looks like an old Win 3.x box with 16 colour settings.
Is there a config file I can delete to reset the display, or some other way round this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated...
    Cheers,

Called Apple support, turned out to be a corrupt preference file; I renamed the preferences folder & rebooted & that resolved the issue. Now have to rebuild / copy back my old preferences...

  • Imac force display resolution

    Hi,
I'm trying to send video to a CRT TV. I currently do it through an HDMI to S-Video adaptor but, no matter what video setting I use on the iMac, it is always out of proportion i.e. too narrow in width versus height. Is there a way to force the iMac to output standard NTSC 486 X 440 or 720 X 480?
    Thanks

You really should use Apples Mini DVI to Video Adapter instead of going up to HDMI and then down to S-Video.
Apple no longer sell the Mini DVI to Video adapters at the on-line store, but they are still available at other on-line and retail stores.

  • How can I display Account description text from country-specific CoA ?

The below quote is from the description of Country Chart of Accounts in OBY6.
"The essential programs in General Ledger can output either the unique worldwide number or the country-specific number and the corresponding text."
I am not able to figure out how to configure reports so that the country-specific number and corresponding text is displayed in programs. When I run reports such as FBL3N, the program is picking up information from the global CoA. Please help!

    Hi
To view the GL line item in Country Chart Account, Run Report S_ALR_87012332. In selection field choose alternate account in outout control.
System will give the Detail as per Country Chart of Account.

  • How do I force a larger display resolution?

I have a MacBook with a native display resolution of 1280x900 or whatever it is. This is the laptop is use for work. When at work, I connect it to an external 1920x1200 display and it works great.
When I bring it home, I'd like to plug it into my home network and then use a VNC viewer on my home machine to see that same 1920x1200 screen. However, once I disconnect the MacBook from the monitor at work, the display reverts to its native size.
Obviously, I could either work on the MacBook directly, connect the MacBook to a monitor at home, or I could leave the MacBook at work and connect via VNC from home to work. Each of these solutions will not work for me.
Anyone know how to force MacOSX to make the desktop resolution an arbitrary size and not limited to the size of the display connected to it?
    Thanks,
    Jeff
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Coming from UNIX, I was hoping this was just a question of forcing the "window manager" to have a certain resolution with a hacky command line command. Or hack some esoteric config file deep within MacOSX. Anybody know?

  • How do I force a certain display resolution?

I've had this nagging issue with my Mac Mini both under Tiger and now Leopard where the display resolution is not quite right. I have it connected to a lower end Polaroid FLM-2601 LCD TV and use it function in my entertainment center as a home theater computer.
Now the problem is that the panel supports 1280x768@75Hz via VGA and 1360x768@75Hz via DVI. Now I can attach a monitor and get the resolution I am looking for via either VGA or DVI. Then I unplug the monitor and connect it to the TV and it works just fine at the supported resolutions. However, as soon as the Mac Mini sleeps or restarts it goes to odd resolutions or 74Hz and no picture is displayed. I tried this with an old PowerMac G4 and it just works right. The video chipset or driver in the Mac Mini seems to be the issue with this TV.
Is there some way to override Mac OS X and force a display resolution? Otherwise I end up with a very notchy experience.

I've had some luck with DisplayConfigX - google it. I've only ever used it under Tiger, though, not Leopard. Using it to drive a Vizio plasma screen at a resolution not typically shown under the Monitors control panel in Tiger.

  • How do I force a resolution on a second monitor

I've connected a Samsung Syncmaster TV to my MacBook Pro through the miini display port via an HDMI adapter. The issue is that it can support up to 1920x1080 (this can easily be forced on a windows 7 laptop when connected the same way) but the option is not present on the options menu.
com.Apple.boot.plist does have the ability to force resolutions but I can't find a resource that explains how to specify which display it applies to.
How would I go about forcing the resolution on the TV through the above or otherwise. (SwitchResX has already been tried with no effect).

When Mirrored mode is selected, the external display always operates at the same resolution setting as the built-in screen. If the external display's native resolution is higher than the built-in screen's, it will nevertheless be limited to the built-in screen's maximum setting, and it will be blurry, as any LCD display is when used below its native resolution. This makes using a high-res external monitor or HDTV in Mirrored mode with a 15" or especially a 13" MBP a really bad idea.
When Extended Desktop mode is selected, each display can be set independently to its native resolution, giving superior image quality and more screen real estate. ED mode is usually vastly preferable to Mirrored mode when screens with different native resolutions are used together.

  • On 11in Macbook Air (10.10), how do I increase resolution of built-in display to 2560 by 1600 pixels?

On 11in Macbook Air (10.10), how do I increase resolution of built-in display to 2560 by 1600 pixels?
It can be accomplished when an external display is connected, so I expect it can be done without an external display.

You're getting full native resolution 1366 x 768 on your internal display, nothing more.

  • How to change external display resolution WITHOUT clicking "CONFIRM"?

I have a somewhat unusual situation. My MacBook laptop is actually now a ModBook (a pen-tablet computer), and as such I no longer have a trackpad attached to it. All of my inputs are via the stylus, tapping directly on the built-in display.
This works perfectly fine, except when I need to give presentations on an LCD projector (which is quite often lately). I like to use the projector as an external monitor, so that I can run the Keynote presentation on it while using my laptop screen as the presenter's display, with the upcoming slide, etc. If the projector doesn't give me an ideal native display option (sometimes, the aspect ratio for the  3 or 4 resolutions available in the Displays drop-down in the menubar turn out to be stretched or squeezed), then I, naturally, have to open the Display System Preferences and try out different resolutions.
The problem is, since my stylus only interacts by clicking directly on the built-in-display, I have no way of moving the cursor over to the external display when the dialog box with the "Click here to confirm change/You have 15 seconds..." message appears. So I can never click it ... so I can never confirm the new settings.
The workarounds I've used so far are:
    - Mirror displays (not ideal, as I need the presenter preview of the next slide)
    - borrow a mouse from someone (usually from a Windows desktop, frankly) and plug that in to briefly mouse over and click the confirm button
I'd love to find a software workaround that allows me to NOT mirror displays and also doesn't require me to carry around a mouse all the time (my laptop bag is already overstuffed...).
    Thanks.

How do I adjust display resolution for Mac Mini? Text does not look crisp.  Using Samsung 27 inch monitor with HDMI input

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays. Depending on your version of Mac OS X, it may be set for "Best for Display" in which case it should already be set at the optimum for your monitor, or it may display resolution options in which case you should set it for the native resolution of your display.

  • How to force duplicate row display automatically

In answers, we have one table that has duplicate data. The only thing different between some rows is the ROWID. When use user requests data, Answers automatically suppresses the duplicate rows. How can I force answers to display all rows and not suppress duplicate values?
For example - db table contains
    COL-A COL-B COL-C
    ABC 3 5
    DEF 2 1
    DEF 2 1
When adding COL A, B, and C to a report - Answers will display:

How do I get answers to display
    ABC 3 5

I did as instructed - remove the check for DISTINCT_SUPPORTED from all DATABASE connections, saved the repository and recycled BI server and Presentation services. Unfortunately, there was no impact to suppression.
