How to force Mac to start at Space #1 ?
Hi everyone,
That's my situation: I defined iTunes to open in full screen mode when I start my Mac. That way I always have my Desktop (available at Space #1) and iTunes (at Space #2).
What annoys me is that whenever I start my computer it automatically goes to iTunes in full screen (i.e. Space #2).
Is there a way for me to force Mountain Lion to show my Desktop (Space #1) when I turn on my Mac?

I have the same problem with an early 2013 macbook pro. gfxCardStatus ( http://gfx.io/ ) will allow you to force integrated and not do dynamic switching, however the external display still doesn't work.

I have been getting GPU Panic whenever I use external Thunderbolt Display.
Not sure whether this is software after(Mavericks) or hardware, if anybody could shed some light I would appreciate it.
The Current Discrete GPU will only work for few seconds 10 sec max before it became blank and require you to force shutdown. This also happened even without external display Blank and GPU Panic upon restart. So I suspected either the discrete GPU failure or software in Mavericks.
But at the moment I'm looking for workaround so I can use the intel intergrated GPU to use my Mac Thunderbolt External Display.

How to stop Mac from starting opening applications that were on when I shut it down?
When my wife wants to finish using her Air she just shuts it down. Upon restarting it later, however, it launches every application she had been using earlier in the day. Is there a way to turn this off?
when you hit > Shutdown there comes a dialog. disable the checkbox "reopen windows when logging back in"

But this AP isn't running well, so I want to force my mac to join a AP with weaker signal.

Note that I'm a guest user and I hanen't access to APs, so I cannot change their SSID.

My MacBook Pro (version 10.7.5 4GB)keeps crashing with the error message 'Your MAC OSX start up disk has no more space available for application memory' - what do i do. I keep force quitting the applications and turning the computer off but it happens again after a while
Hhow much goal and free hard disk space is available? Sounds like you need to move some things off of that hard drive.

I just upgraded to the New OS on my Mac Book Pro and now my trackpad does not zoom in or out. I looked at system settings on trackpad and it is set, but does not work How do I get it started?
This is really unfortunate. I'm sorry that nothing works. I was going to mention holding down the power button and doing a force shutdown but you already did that. You might need to take it into the Apple store. I don't know if booting into safe mode would help. You would have to turn off the machine again, hit the start button and hold down the shift key after you hear the tone, but normally you would let go of the shift key when you see the apple logo and spining wheel. Maybe by holding down the shift key after you here the tone will cause the screen to come back on? The other option is to start up from the 'install disk' if your machine came with one. You would insert the disk, then shut down the computer, and hold down the C key right after hitting the start button.

Imac not starting up, keep getting white screen. Using snow leopard. Able to get to disk utilities with snow leopard installation disk. Tap on had disk, not given choice to certified disk or anything else. Information on disk states that smart status is certified. Partition map I formatted. Also tried to restore from back up, but get error: not enough disk space. Tried to erase disk, but unable. What do I do next to get mac to start up?

One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know? It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.

How do I select my Mac to start up on Mountain Lion rather than Windows?
I used Boot Camp to put Windows on my Mac. I got worried incase it would wipe Mountain Lion off my Mac so I cancelled it. I deleted the partition.
Now everytime I start my Mac up, it tries to open via Windows (which isn't installed).
How do I make it automatically boot up using Mountain Lion (10.8.2)?To start into OS X, press X key while your Mac is starting. You can also press Option key and select Macintosh HD.
Then, to start always into OS X, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose Macintosh HD.

BarbThe message has nothing to do with available disk space. There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
In the Activity Monitor application, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details. -
if you've changed your startup options on mac to start in windows, how do you fix and go back to mac. I can't get my mac to switch back to mac, it is like stuck in widows mode, I have tried holding down the options key upon start up and that did not fix it either.

I have a iMac and desparetly need some freed up space. I have emptied trash for iPhoto, iMail, cleared extra disk images, checked for old printers, and then emptied my trash bin on the desktop. I have 616MB. Most of my space is taken up by photos, video and music that I would like to organize for our family. I have just started in with iMovie and will be working with many of those items, but due to the excessive amount of them, can I can move to an external hard drive and work on only one year at a time? (We have 7 years of digital overload to go through.) Is it easy to work with files once they are moved to an external hard drive? What would the best steps to take from here? Can you force LR to start in 64 bit mode?The Lightroom Installer has both 64bit and 32bit included and should automatically install the correct version. I can think of two ways to see which one is installed on your system. a. Click on the Start button and look under All Programs and it should show what version is installed. b. From the Lightroom main menu bar click Help > System Info and the dialog box that pops will display the details of your system and the software running i.e Lightroom.
