How to Force PDF to Print Only in Black

I have an old HP 932C that's been working fine until recently. It quit printing blue. Bought a new cartridge and there's no difference. I've run the diagnostics for the printer--fairly primitive and no help. I probably need a new one at this point, but right now I need to print out a form I have in PDF. It's got a lot of blue in it and it prints out this sickly pinkish that just won't work. I'm just looking for a way to "force" this PDF to print only in black. Any tips?
Also I'd love to see any advice about trying get this old printer to print blue again. The print nozzles are contained in the cartridges so changing out the color cartridge gets me new nozzles. I've inspected the electrical contact area of the cartridge holder in the printer and it looks fine.
Thanks,
Steve M.

Or is there some other software that I am missing or that I could add?
It's not in the printer driver, it's part of the OZS/Colorsync/Quartz... been so long I forget, but...
See if in the Print Dialog you have Print settings & an option for grayscale.
B&W is supposed to be a default filter...

Hi picheny. How are you printing from your iPhone. Are you using Apple's built in Airprint or the HP Eprint app? Airprint doesn't seem to have any such option. With Eprint, you can specify.

  • How do I print only in black on a photosmart 7520 with a Mac Pro?

How do I set the Photosmart 7510 to print only in black from my MacBook Pro?

    Hi,
Follow the steps below in order to print using Black Ink only:
    1. From the application used to print, click the File menu and select Print.
    The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized: Click the blue triangle next to the product model (Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.6) or the Show Details button ( Mac OS X v10.7 Lion or above) to see all available settings.
    2. To access the color options, click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
    3. Select Paper Type/Quality from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click the triangle next to Color Options to expend the settings.
    5. Set the Color field as Grayscale.
    6. Set the Grayscale Mode as Black Ink Cartridge Only.
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset... any used preset will remain as default till another preset will be used.

  • Reader XI & IE10 - how to force PDF's to be viewed in READER?

I have NO Adobe add-on installed in IE10.  Updgraded from Reader 8.1 to Reader XI.  Under Reader 8.1 there was an option in settings to force PDF's to be opened in READER instead of IE.  Cannot find that option.  Went to Settings / Manage-Add-ons to disable Adobe PDF there, but it's not installed, so can't disable it.
Any ideas on how to force PDF's to be opened in READER instead of IE10?
    Thanks!

I do not quite understand your initial comment.  You write that you do not have the Adobe Reader add-on installed on IE10, yet PDFs open in IE?
See this article how to enable viewing PDFs in a browser; you will have to do it the other way around to see the opposite effect: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier prints only in black/MAC USER & won't align?

PROBLEM # 1) I've replaced all my ink cartridges, but can't find out why my printer is now only printing in black? I'm a MAC user, so I want to print in color, and am trying to find instructions for a MAC on how to get back to printing in color?
    ACTION TAKEN #1
UPDATE: I've done a three level cleaning of the printer heads, which DOES print in color and each color block now looks great.  The printer heads were not printing any color blocks, but the pink color block,  until the first third level cleaning. I then cleaned the printer heads a second time all the way through the third level.
RESULT: However when I print from any document/web page my printer only still prints in black & white after these two printer adjustments double three stage printer cartridge claening?
     ACTION TAKEN #2
    I found this very detailed report and video on cleaning printer heads, alignment issues, and calibrate line feeds;
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01624398&lc=en&product=3964986&tmp...
The Print Quality Diagnostics Page looks perfect (including the alignment section)  in all 3 test patterns, and again prints in color.
RESULT: However, my printer still will not print in color after trying all these steps?
IPROBLEM #2)I  've also tried a align printer which also prints in color,  but states, "alignment failed see documentation manual"? To make the situation more complicated the alignment page looks perfect  and prints in color before the error message displays.
After puling the power cord  twice while ON  and wiating 20 seconds, as discussed in the above link. my printer "won't remove the, "align  error message see diagnostics manual".
RESULT: Printer "won't remove the, "align  error message see diagnostics manual", even though the Printer Diagnostic Pages looks great, and the alignment page as well.
I'm operating a lastest version Macbook Air laptop OS X 10.9.4. I have not upgraded to a new operating system since this problem started a week ago, and Ive owned this HP Printer for 2 years.
UPDATE: ISSUE SOLVED. Well you can imagine when I say that I spent about 2 hours on this yesterday that yea he's right. This took a long time to research and try all these solutions. I told my wife about the issue and had her try:
ACTION TAKEN #3: Print a page from a second computer. Windows laptop printed a colored page from a web site.
SOLUTION: (Printing only in Black Color): Wife literally solved the problem in 3 minutes!
Look below at the presets drop-down arrow tab, which is right below the printer name: You will see PLAIN PAPER, FAST DRAFT, BLACK AN(D WHITE). I'm not sure how I checked this, but this is how you can print only in black ink. NOTE: I looked at dozens of answers across the web, and didn't find this info anywhere else!
This screen shot show you what the setting should be if you want to print in fast draft mode to use the least amount of color ink.

    Hi monkplayer,
It looks like your problem is solved? There wasn't a problem with the printer itself, just the printer settings on your Mac?
This is good information though. We don't always have detailed solutions for customers that are using Safari, since it is hard to write instructions for the general public with specific steps for each operating system.
    Best of luck,

  • C3180 prints only in black on OS X Maverick

    Hello guys,
I just bought a new Macbook Pro i7 A1398 and the new OS X Maverick, I can changed my desktop or my laptop but never my (precioussss) printer All-in-One C3180. I just pluged in my Mac and the system recognized it but the printer prints only in black, no colors and bad dpi.
Second despair: I'm very dissapointed that have no Central Solution of HP. It's that true? :-(   Newbie on Mac
    This question was solved.

    Hi Fael78RJ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you have recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro running the new Mavericks 10.9 Operating system. You are not able to print in color with your HP Photosmart C3180, your prints are coming out in black and white only.
Now because you are using the Mavericks OS X you must install the printer using the Apple Updates. Please click on the link below, this document explains how to install the print driver on a Mac for a USB or a network connection. The OS X v10.9 Mavericks driver for your printer is available through Apple Software Update (ASU). Additionally, you can perform basic print jobs using AirPrint without installing a driver.
OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac
Once you have installed the PS C3180, you may notice the features you once had are limited or there are workarounds such as not being able to access the Solution Center (yes I am afraid this is true), for scanning with or without HP Software see below:
How to Scan: OS X v10.9
Are you now printing in color? I hope this helps! Let me know the outcome!
    Thanks again,

  • Print only in black ink

HP Photosmart D7100 Printer series.podoshli the end of the yellow and red ink, but you need very urgently to print a document. have the opportunity to transfer print only the black cartridge?

    Lilbai wrote:
Bob, thanks for confirming what HP says the printer does and doesn't do. If however, I want to print in pure black, which appears to be an option provided by the printer, does the printer require the use, rather than the presence, of colour ink to print? HP says colour ink will be drawn by the printer when the level of black ink is low but my black ink is half full and I still can't print in black only. Why would any company make a printer whose printheads will be damaged due to the absence of ink in cartridges which are not used in a printing job? I just do not understand. Has HP told consumers in its manuals or on its website the fact that black only printing is not possible without the use or presence of colour ink in these printers?
First, I do not work for or speak for HP, I am simply explaining how printers with separate printheads and ink supplies work.  The printheads require fresh ink in each color to prevent clogging of the printheads. The printhead assembly contains both the black and color printheads.  Consider a print job that is going to print only black.  The color printheads are still being waved about in the air and will dry out and clog unless they are serviced during and after the printing has completed.  This servicing requires ink because that is the only fluid available for the printheads.  If printing were allowed without any color ink available for servicing the printheads could become clogged to an extent that they require (expensive) replacement. Every company that uses fixed or semipermanant inkjet printheads has similar constraints.
If you need a printer that will allow printing with one or more colors empty or removed then get a printer with the printheads included with the ink supplies.  On these devices the printhead is replaced with each new cartridge so it is possible to print with one or more colors missing without risking damage to the printer.

  • How to force RH9 to use only one master stylesheet for all Word imports?

I have set a stylesheet (css) as the default for my RH9 WebHelp project in project settings. When I import Word documents into the project, the edit import setting dialog does not show this stylesheet in the list of available stylesheets for the import.
What is happening instead is a proliferation of unwanted stylesheets derived from all the imported documents. I then have to manually re-set all the new topics to the master stylesheet.
How can I stop this, and force RH9 to use only the one master stylesheet for all imports?

    Hi Peter,
That’s what I thought I was doing in the Project Settings>Import tab>CSS for Style Mapping selection. Maybe that isn’t what it’s meant to do. It’s just getting annoying having all these unneeded files popping up in the project manager so that I have trouble distinguishing the “real” topics from the extra stuff.

  • Getting a full colour PDF to print in just Black

Is it possible [other than changing your pc print settings] to force a PDF  document, that is in colour, to print in 'black and white' and only print in colour if this  setting is overridden?
    Any help much appreciated.

To print always in black & white, you will need to change a couple of settings in the print dialogue that opens when you select print.
1 - In the print window select Advanced, the first options should be   for Output, where it says Color you will need to change that setting to Composite Gray in the drop down menu.
2 - In the same Advanced settings window you should find a drop down at the top that says Custom, with a button next to it that says Save As...
Save the setting you have just changed and name it something you will understand i.e. - Moll's Black/White. With this new setting selected click OK.
3 - Back in the original Print window is a menu called Presets... again select Save As and name it something you understand. With that Preset selected click Print.
That should do it, now whenever you need to print something black and white just select the Preset you have just created in the Print window and then Print. The settings should all remain and your print will be black and white.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus - By passing expired Color Cartridges to print only in Black printing.

    Hi,
    Problem:
fIt seems that this model of printer has a built in protocol which makes the printer inoperable if any of the colour cartridges are past their expiry date. Attempts to print solely in black are also being prevented because of this.
Does anybody know how permit black printing only without the need to replace colour cartridges rarely used.
Apple Mac PCs and laptops are connected to the printer wirelessly.
I look forward to any info which rids me of this frustrating problem.

Hello popkc, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are looking into ink options.  Due to the design of the printer, it does require functional ink as to not cause damage to the print system.  There is no way to override this.

  • Photosmart C6280 Can't bypass the warnings and print only in black

I have a photosmart C6280 printer and i want to print in black only, but i can not bypass the "low ink" errors and "expired cartridge" errors to proceed.  I've changed the preferences in my print options to black only but the printer is still flashing  "low ink" or "expired cartridge".  The black ink cartridge is full and in date btw.  I'm afraid of going to buy new colored ink and it still not work, then I'm out of pocket a lot of money and stuck with colored ink cartridges I can't use or return.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program...still nothing.  I'm beyond frustrated.

    Hi @hatfieldnomore,
I see by your post that you replaced the black cartridge and aren't able to continue printing. You are unable to bypass the "low ink" errors and "expired cartridge" errors to proceed. I can help you.
The printer can operate only for a short period of time with ‘out of ink’ cartridges. All cartridges must be installed for the printer to operate and they must have sufficient ink for servicing, in order to prevent the printhead from drying out.
I have provided a document for Printing with Depleted Cartridges.
This is for the error 'Ink expiration near' Message Displays on the All-in-One.
    Have a nice day!

  • How to Impove PDF Color Printing

Thanks to previous help when my printer went awol and wouldn't print anything from PS, the great suggestion was made here to try PDF. For the small emergency at the time, it workded just great, and I could  print borderless.    However, that was just black/white, and now I have a lovely poster in bright colors that are fine on another printer as long as it's  not borderless or larger  than letter size.
The poster is 11X17 and PDF will do it. A trial print in PDF showed poor colors, much grayer and the intensity of the plan is lost. I don't want to reduce the size or not have it borderless and have to use the other business  printer even though the test colors were just fine. How do I get better color results using PDF?  Thanks so much.....mm

If you want to parse through the PDF data structures and alter their colors you certainly can but there's no magic "invert" function for vector data anywhere. The closest you could come would be to generate an ICC profile that mapped each color to its compliment and tag the document with it, but that would only work if the PDF viewer used the profile correctly.
