Im running 10.6.6 (latest)
All help would be great

Yes indeed and subsequently re-applying Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3 would be a good idea, since it made changes to the Java Preferences application, moving it to v13.3

  • How to force reinstall of all packages

    Hi:
How can I force reinstall of all packages of my system without have physical access to the server?
Can i do this with YUM?
    Please help,
    Regards
    Ricardo

Rather than reinstalling everything how about verifying installed packages to see what changed, which would allow you to isolate a problem - I think.
I have never done it but apparently there is yum-verify. Unfortunately I do not have OEL available right now to test it...
    http://linux.die.net/man/1/yum-verify
To verify the binaries that are in a bin directory, use:
    yum verify --verify-filenames='*bin/*'
To verify all include files, Eg. for multilib problems, use:
    yum verify-all --verify-filenames='/usr/include/*'
    Does this work?

  • How can I reinstall JAVA on Mountain Lion?

The last Java Update screwed up Java on Mountain Lion. Thanks a lot, Apple. This is where blinking/flashing images etc etc start, and it also affects the three-finger word-look-up gesture. I compared my mac running Facebook in Safari with one in an AppleStore and the one in the shop renders the Java stuff flawlessly -- no blinking or flashing graphics, and the three-finger tap gesture works perfectly. Both macs were running the same version of Java, OS X and Safari.
If I turn off Javascript and Java (in Safari) I don't get the flashing images and three-finger-tap works.
So my question is (after reading similar threads of the same topic): IS there any one-click solution to this -- can I reinstall Java, or do I have to re-install Mountain Lion... JUST to get Java working again??!?
And per the above.. why ISN'T there a standalone Java re-installer for OS X? How difficult could it be??

I just found the solution, thanks to the "MORE LIKE THIS" links:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
That's where you can download the standalone installer!! I did it, ran it, and it works. Solved all the problems I've been having.
Thing is.... why is it hidden???

Have you tried installing Java 5.0?

  • Having reinstalled java. Iahve tools which I do not know how to use.

I have Windows XP, and have reinstalled Java as the previous version had wiped clean. At present have a subfolder of program files called java which has a sub folder called jdk1.8.0_18, but I do not how to use these tools to compile and run programs. Previously I had something which could the mouse. How am I to use these tools?

I made a typo, it actually is jdk1.6.0_18.
I was abel compile and run a file, but it was a little more complex than suggested and I would lile to know to do with a a mouse,At this point, if you actually want to learn java, then using the command prompt is your best bet.
I have no idea what "do with a a mouse" means. Was there a specific tool you were using before? I'm sure you can set which compiler it uses somehow. Or you could just use an IDE. In either case, google is your friend. But you should be using the command prompt until you're more familiar with what's going on behind the scenes.

  • How to force OTT generating java?

I've read in an Oracle white paper that Oracle has an Object Type Translator (ott) utility that creates java objects from object type definitions in the database. In my installations of Oracle 8.1.7 and 9.2i my ott utility only supports output of C structures (though in ott.exe present such strings as "public void...", "throws SQLException..."). Does anyone know how to force ott.exe generating java sources?

OTT can generate C structures or C++ classes from object definitions. You should look at JPublisher for Java classes.

Bad juju not having a bootable backup that you can revert back to when you run into these kinds of issues. Get a bootable, external HD, and make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. See these for details:

Back to your issue. Boot with the Leopard install disk, select your language, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, and repair the disk and permissions. Report back.

  • How to force java console to remain open?

I'm getting an error which is forcing the java console to close without giving me a chance to view what the error is. Is it possible to somehow force it to remain open?

    check out the trace
    C:\Documents and Settings\your user\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\log\plugin...log
If that doesn't say enough you can try to activate a full plugin trace:
To turn the full trace on (windows) you can start the java console, to be found here:
    C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4...\bin\jpicpl32.exe
In the advanced tab you can fill in something for runtime parameters fill in this:
    -Djavaplugin.trace=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
if you cannot start the java console check here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\userName\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
I think for linux this is somewhere in youruserdir/java (hidden directory)
add or change the following line:
    javaplugin.jre.params=-Djavaplugin.trace\=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option\=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
    for 1.5:
    deployment.javapi.jre.1.5.0.args=-Djavaplugin.trace\=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option\=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
    The trace is here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\your user\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\log\plugin...log
I think for linux this is somewhere in youruserdir/java (hidden directory)
Print out the full trace of the exception:
    try{...}catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();}

  • How do i reinstall Safari for mac osx 10.7.2?

I updated my Safari from 5.1.3 (I believe) to the latest Safari 7 (I believe). When I tried to open it, it said I needed to update my osx, which I don't want to do. Now I can't seem to go back to the Safari I had. I've tried installing version 5.1.1, but it says I need to have mac osx 10.6. My osx version is 10.7.2 and don't want to upgrade yet, but how do I get Safari back, and which version of Safari works in osx 10.7.2?
What happened is not fair because when I was installing the new version of Safari, there was no warning about which osx I needed. Only after it replaced the old version did it say that I can't use it with my current osx. Is that Apple's way to force you to upgrade to the latest osx? Not fair! How can I reinstall Safari now?

On a Mac running v10.7.2, the only way to reinstall Safari is to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery.
Safari 5.1.1 is for Snow Leopard. It will not run on a Mac with v10.7 installed.
